Great location and friendly, helpful service. Only problem was main restaurant closed for a month the day after I checked in. Cafe downstairs was ok but not a "dining" experience type place. Never figured out how to adjust the heat in my room was the only real negative. Would still go back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wow,what a view."
I liked this hotel. The view is incredible!!!!! One, really strange thing....stairs, not a great feature with luggage.Genuine Expedia guest review
"the apex hotal in Edinburgh"
gret locatio very willing to accomodate excellent staff paryying neighborhood on weekend night great locatioGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Would have given this hotel 5 stars, but the bed was just really bad. It was lumpy and sunk down on one side like someone really heavy had slept there for a long time. If you slept on the side that wasn't sunken you had a hard time not rolling down into it. After a long flight however, it really didn't matter. We didn't bother complaining because we […] were only staying 2 nights. The location is great and the hotel was very clean. We also had free wi-fi, which we did not receive at two other hotels we stayed at during our travels. We would probably stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fair price excellent locale"
Wake up to a view of the castle just outside my window? Sure there was noise at night as the party scene surrounds this hotel but if you can put up with the noise this hotel is at a great location. The prime spots are easily within walking distance to castle palace and mile. Shops are quaint and the little Italian restaurant offered late night snacks. […] The staff are polite and helpful as I found all Scots to be. Yes the hotel floor squeaks and there are stairs to navigate but I highly recommend it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"VERY HOT ROOM, ALOT OF NOISE AND OTHER PROBLEMS"
THIS HOTEL WAS A VERY BIG DISAPPOINTMENT -- IT REALLY RUINED OUR STAY IN EDINBURGH. WE HAD ASKED HOTELS.COM FOR A HOTEL WITH AIR CONDITIONING AND APEX DID NOT HAVE ANY ROOMS WITH AIR CONDITIONING. OUR ROOM WAS VERY NOISY TO THE POINT THAT WE COULD NOT SLEEP AT NIGHT AND THE SINK KEPT CLOGGING; WE HAD A FLOOD IN THE BATHROOM. THE FRONT DESK WOULD NOT […] ALLOW US TO CHECK IN UNTIL TWO HOURS AFTER THE INDICATED CHECK-IN TIME. ACCORDING TO HOTELS.COM, APEX REFUSED TO GIVE US ANY MONETARY ALLOWANCE FOR ALL THE TROUBLE WE HAD. HOW CAN A FOUR STAR HOTEL BE SO PROBLEMATIC AND UNRESPONSIVE?! WE STAYED IN OTHER FOUR STAR HOTELS IN SCOTLAND AND ELSEWHERE IN EUROPE THAT WERE FANTASTIC. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Apex International in Edinburgh"
Very comfortable and conveniently located.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We loved the Apex. It was a very classy hotel with lots of weddings while we stayed there and fun to see all the folks wearing kilts in the hotel. Its right on the main square, and we had a supberb view of Edinbrough Castle from our room. I honestly didn't have one complaint.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location. Good service Wonderful beds The view from our room was of the castle - stunning! Exceeded all of our expectations!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful, convenient, but hot"
Gorgeous hotel in awesome location! Right below the Edinburgh castle and on square filled with restaurants and pubs. Unfortunately, the room was hot and only comfortable with window open (allowing noise of square below in) or using the fan found in closet (thank goodness!)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Apex International Edinburgh"
This was a great hotel with a great location. the continental breakfast was very good for 10 pounds. Internet connection was free which is a nice surprise with so many high end hotels charging you extra for Internet. I think that is highway robbery. The only reason I didn't give this hotel 5 stars is the wireless internet signal in my room was weak […] and sometimes dropped out and the room needed to be a slight bit larger. There really wasn't enough room to have two fairly large suit cases in the room with us. Room for 2 suit case stands would have made a huge difference. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect hotel spot in Edinburgh"
Located in the Grassmarket area of Old Town Edinburgh, the Castle towers above grassmarket square. It's only a short walk to The Royal Mile. The two city tour buses have stops directly in front of the hotel. Great location, courteous staff, I will definately stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"WIll Never Stay There Again"
The room was extremely warm and the only window in the room could not be opened since it overlooked a banquet area - what a great view that was! There was no way we could find to cool the room down. When we told the front desk about the room temperature we were told that we should use the small desk fan that was in a closet in the room. There was no […] attempt at all to get us a cooler room or to even come up and see how hot the room was. I spent the whole night sleeping in a room that was like a sauna and got a couple of hours of sleep. That pretty much ruined our next day in Edinburgh. In the morning when I was asked about our stay I told the desk clerk about the temperature of the room. She asked me to fill out a complaint card and said we'd be contacted within a few days to take care of our complaint. It's been over a week now and we've heard nothing from the hotel. We will never stay there again. A terrible room and even more terrible service. We got much better treatment in York at the Hilton. They understand how important service is at a quality hotel. This one seems to be taking advantage of the one thing in their favor - the location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Enjoyed the stay, service was not great though"
The location and comfort of the hotel enabled an enjoyable stay. The service could have been better: One evening I requested some toothpaste from reception (mine had been confiscated at the airport) and they told me that they had run out. The next day I asked again and they still did not have any. I was told to go to a nearby store where I spent 3 […] pounds on another tube of toothpaste that could also not be carried onto a plane (the store did not have small sizes). I also wanted to enjoy a bottle of wine from my room and requested a bottle opener from the hotel. At first I was told to bring my bottle down to the bar if I wanted it opened, and eventually they sent someone up with a wine key. He would not let me keep it in my room however and stood there while I opened my wine and then immediately took back the wine key. Overall it was a good stay, but I expected slightly better service at a four star international business hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Apex International - great location"
I chose a deluxe room which had a wonderful view of Edinburgh castle, I highly recommend the deluxe rooms over the standard room. The hotel entrance has a few stairs which you have to climb with your luggage in order to check in; I had a lot of luggage so it was inconvenient. All in all the experience was great and I will stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, friendly staff"
My husband and I stayed at the Apex on our last night in Edinburgh, after visiting his family elsewhere in the country. It's location was perfect for us - across from his favorite college pub. It's also close to the High street, though the snowy streets were a little precarious for a couple of days. The room was large - the twin room actually had two […] double beds, whereas other hotels we've stayed at have two singles. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked. We spent some time in the lounge/bar, which was also well appointed and with friendly staff. Overall, we'll stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
A very well situated area, although room was disappointing, room 5018,outlook looking out onto a brick wall, no natural daylight but only stayed 1 night if had of booked more nights would have wanted to change roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"comfy beds, a bit noisy late at night though"
very clean room and all amenities very good. We could not get into our room on the Saturday night and were waiting for half hour outside until the receptionist had to screw off the handle to let us in. But they tried their best to sort the problem and at 9am the maintenance man was knocking at our door to put on a new lock. Then when we checked out […] a very kind man on reception named Peter could not have been nicer to us. He said we could have our lunch in the bar and a drink to make up for the inconvenience we suffered the night before. It was such a kind jesture. Thank you Peter. "Great stay, lovely location and nice rooms"
A great place to stay in Edinburgh, on Grassmarket, lots of good restaurants and bars right outside (be prepared for the noise at night), room was very comfortable, the beds were good and the staff friendly. Would stay there again without hesitation.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good castle views"
had a room with good castle views. staff all very friendly and helpful. breakfast good and rooms clean and spacious, but a 4star rating should come with suitable bathroom toiletries (no hand lotion or bathrobe/slippers) in my opinion. Good sized tv and good selection of channels. Parking was useful but should really be included in the price of the room. […] Walking back at night can be a problem with some of the dark side streets and 'shady' characters but generally a very good area and surroundings. Easy walk to conference centre. "A great hotel in a great location"
This was the 3rd time I have stayed at this hotel because it is value for money and every time the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. The welcome at Reception is warm and helpful. The room was clean, modern with excellent facilities even down to the Shortbread biscuits! The breakfast is worth returning for as it is excellent (have the Full Scottish […] Breakfast) and is served with one of the best views of the castle. The location is great for lovely local restaurants and a short walk from the shops and station. I would book again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent, But Room way too Hot!"
Great Hotel, Great Staff,Faultless Service Great Location, Great Views...Great Stay! Only thing that put a dampner on the Trip was the lack of ventilation in the room and lack of Air Conditioning! This is probably a personal gripe from a seasoned world traveller, but when it is Hot Outside, some ventilation in the Room is nice and an alternative to […] a 2000 Tog Downy would be cooling. Very friendly / helpful staff. Room fine / clean. Restraurant was good - staff/ quality of food. Only point of issue seemed to be a.rather strange set up - access to reception up steps. Seemed to be a struggle for a lot of people with suitcases - needs a rampGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very happy with our short stay. Room was clean and very comfortable. Breakfast worth every penny. Would definitely stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"This Hotel Was More Tired Than Me..."
Lobby and communal parts were OK. Room was so tired. Windows were broken and coming off the wall. The carpet was old, stained, and held together with gaffa tape, no air con, barking dog all night from the flats next door. The bathroom was new so this was about the only good feature.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A nice surprise"
I booked a hidden hotel and was pleasantly surprised to get a great view of the castle from the room. That was a real bonus. The room was comfortable and ideal for our family. I did feel the hotel was a bit utilitarian and could be a bit more personal. The dining area was a bit like a canteen and did not attract me. "Great location and lovely hotel"
Stayed for 3 days of the Fringe and it was an ideal base being centrally located for all the events. Very helpful and friendly staff. We had a fantastic view of the Castle which was directly opposite. This also meant that we got the full blast of the Military Tattoo's guns and cannons at about 11pm which frightened the living daylights out of my wife […] on our first night as she was unaware that it is one of the events that takes place during August. It was no inconvenience though as we mostly had late nights watching shows and it just added to the atmosphere of feeling like we were at the heart of the months festivities. "Very comfortable room and outstanding breakfast"
Large bed in very comfortable room but ear plugs by the bed would be needed if retiring early. Good position for the Fringe and an excellent cooked breakfast. Some of the public areas however did look a bit tired and bar very noisy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A very comfortable stay. Room lovely. Grass market is good location. Only complaint was poor bar staff. Bar was not particularly busy but service was slow. We were at the back of the hotel so noise was not a problem. We were there during the fringe and had a brilliant time. If in Edinburgh again we would try this hotel first.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good situation disappointing facilities."
First room offered was a disabled room. It had a loose carpet edging strip which could have "disabled " us. Also damage to the carpet repaired with sticky tape. Overall the room was shabby - needed a complete makeover as did the room we eventually finished up with. We were unhappy that there were no in room safe facilities. In total this was not what […] we were used to in a four star facility. Fortunately the reception staff , although they could not do anything about the quality of the room, were exceptionally courteous and helpful in other ways. (The reception manager did treat us to a bottle of wine). The situation of the hotel was very good and near all the places we wished to see. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotels location is absolutely perfect - Right on Grassmarket, directly opposite a string of pubs/bars/restaurants.The hotel itself is very clean & tidy. "Excellent location for seeing old Edinburgh"
Hotel is older than the pictures on their website would lead you to believe but well maintained. They were very helpful in securing our baggage for an early arrival and late departure. It's very near a bus stop for the hop-on-hop-off tours, which we like. But we didn't use the buses this time, everything was in easy walking distance for two 50+ women, […] if you don't mind hills. The rooms with the view of the castle have a great view but across the street is a small market square that is very noisy with pubs until very late at night. The other side of the hotel's views might be dreary but the rooms are probably quieter. I'd stay there again or at their sister hotel right down the street but I'd opt to not pay for the view and go for quiet instead. p.s. Across the street was a great place for breakfast - Café Jaques Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
