1800 Atlantic Suites - Key West

The room was quite comfortable and nice and at a good location. There was one big problem as there was remodeling going on on our side (east) of the building. Construction noise (loud) started early so that one could not sleep in and they worked late. It would have been nice if our room had been on the west side where there was no construction.

This condo complex is very run down and has not had any 'face lifts' in ages. The location is decent because it is waterfront, has gorgeous views and is near Smather's Beach but the general up-keep of the building itself was disappointing. Our rooms had not been properly cleaned as there was hair plastered to the side of the wall in the shower, and […] the carpets were dirty and worn. There was no wi-fi access (even though it was advertised as having it). Further, there was a large cockroach lying dead under the bathroom sink from where it got into the pesticide (other evidence of not being properly cleaned). The condo was really roomy and well laid out. It's a pain that you have to do your own laundry and take out the trash. the biggest issue was that there was a HUGE construction project going on that was extremely loud and very intrusive. We were not forewarned of that and would have stayed elsewhere if we known.

We enjoyed our stay at Atlantic Suites. We were traveling with our teenage son and his friend, and we had more room than we knew what to do with. Nice location near Smathers Beach--walking distance. A little farther from Duval Street than we hoped, but still just a short 5-10 minute drive if you have a car. We arrived at the "hotel" to locked doors and gates with no indications of where to go. An outside contractor working on the property finally led us through the doors to the security office. They informed us to go several miles to a seperate realtor/lease company to check in. They then provided us with an incorrect address. We were able to find the […] correct address and were somewhat coldly greeted and provided the keys and gate entry pass. The realtor/owner was answering calls and trying to eat her lunch. The rooms were fine for the money we paid which, as I understand, was about half the regular price. The "hotel", is actually a condo. Location is great (what isn't on Key West!) There is a private beach at the property but not for swimming, you will have to go to the public beach next door. The kitchen and bath areas were very nice for 1990 but looked somewhat dated at this time The ceiling in the shower was sagging and badly stained from a leak . The furniture was nice and comfortable and room appointments were ok for what we paid. All in all this is not a 3 star property, they seem to be handing stars out like awards at my sons kindergarden class. The pool (even had a sauna) was large and great. Balcony access from every room. Right on the beach. Comfortable and convenient. Not close to Duval, but about a 5-7 minute drive. Check in was about a mile away but very nice and quick.

We had a nice view from our fourth floor balcony. The best thing about the place is it's Olympic sized pool and nearby hot tub. It also has a nice garden area near the pool and grill and picnic area. After spending 11 days at 1800 Atlantic I certainly would encourage people to stay there. The location is great, close enough to Duvall street yet far enough away that the crowds do not exist. I would take a cab to Duvall street for my nights on the town and the fare would be 8 bucks. This is not a hotel but a condo complex that is about 50% owner occupied and 50% vacation rentals. Located right on the ocean but not near any services. You will need a car to get to Duval Street or walk 30 plus minutes which we did a couple of time but with a young son and one of our moms with us it was not walkable daily. However, if you are light sleeper be aware that our unit was on the third floor just above a very busy road where cars had to slow and then accelerate around an extreme corner. The trucks and moter bikes were loud weekday and weekends alike. The was last decorated in the early 80"s, everything was pink and light blue and extremely worn. The bedding was old and cheap, towels were tread bare and the mattresses were sunken and lumpy. It had 3 large sliders that opened to a large balcony, the unfortunate part is that the vertical blinds would not open without falling apart. The dead bolt was not functioning correctly and we were locked out...twice and required security assistance. The dryer did not heat and we had to take 2 loads of wet laundry home with us. We may have gotten a bad unit and would request specific unit pictures before I would even think about returning. Bottom line it was great size and a good location but this owner needs to attend to details like basic bedding updates and painting the walls in all rooms. This condo was a little pricey for one couple but well worth it. We had to cancel our trip to Cancun at the last minute after already flying from NY to Lauderdale. We could not find any places to stay in Key West except for 1800 Atlantic Ave. The price was a little high however it was 2 full bedrooms and a sleeper couch. VERY DISAPPOINTED, We were told there were two double beds in one room and a a king in the other bedroom, we were told it was a 5 star hotel, it was an "apartment building", where owners of the condos rent out the unit when they are not there. No front desk, no room service, no maid service, we found only two single beds in one room and a terrible pull […] out in the living room, there was no shampoo or coffee, there was letter on the table that if we did not do the laundry before leaving we would be charged. We were advised we had to clean the unit and take the garbage to the dumpsters. OMG Can you imagine booking a room for only two night and have to that much work before you can leave. Especially when you are only there such a short time. I was disgusted !!! It was probably the worst experience we ever had. We had found out our brother had cancer and wanted to take a vacation to the keys before he started treatments and we had 6 adults. This unit might have been ok if there were two adults and 4 kids, but not with 6 adults and the men were large ones and did not even fit properly on the single bed. Two of us slept in a chair because the pull out mattress was so thin and it sagged. I can't say how truly shocked we were. But i will add that hotels.com promptly refunded our money and we were able to spend the second night in a nice hotel. Read more
