Sunset Inn - Pacific Grove

excellent and very accomodating

We had a very nice room, w/fireplace. The best part was having the ability to open the windows, have a sea breeze and hearing the waves crash. Very quiet area and would recommend to anyone.

This hotel was very nice and you can't beat the price! Barbara at the front desk was very friendly. The rooms were small but very clean and the fireplace was a very nice touch. The beds were new and comfy.

We stayed one night at the Sunset Inn, in Pacific Grove, outside of Monterrey. It is in a quiet neighborhood, walking distance to the lighthouse, and the coast...easy driving to Cannery Row and other attractions in Monterrey. The rooms are small but beautiful. Fire place kept us very warm and the big flat screen TV mast our stay very enjoyable. Location is great, not to far from the beach and close to all nearby attractions. The lady at the front desk was very helpful with great reccomendations of attractions and places to eat! I would reccomend this hotel to anyone!

Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the gas fireplace. There weren't any "luxury" amenities, but it was all we wanted for a most reasonable price. We chose to skip the breakfast in favor of dining at a cafe in town. We would stay there again.

The Sunset Inn in Pacific Grove was great! My room was clean, warm and the fireplace was an added bonus at Christmas time! Enjoyed the continental breakfest. The bed had a comfortable mattress, a warm comforter, smooth sheets and lots of pillows! Barbara, the manager was gracious, friendly and was efficient in her manner of business. we stayed one night. Room is clean and comfortable. We did not take breakfast (no comments). It was strong cleaning chemical smelt in the room, everything else together with famous Barbara's hospitality was OK.

We enjoyed our stay. There were only 1 or 2 other rooms occupied in the entire complex of cottages so it was quiet. It may be noisy when full. There are only 2 rooms per cottage however the walls between don't block sound well. We could easily hear converstion in the adjoining room. We loved our stay at The Sunset Inn!!! Barbara treated us like family, We felt very welcome! The Asimolar beach is 1 block away, downtown Pacific Grove 2.5 miles away. So my wife, who is clean freak, thought that the bathroom toilet had not been cleaned. She was right. 2 days in a row! In addition, one has no idea when the room will get cleaned, the morning?, the afternoon?.....The one day my wife and I came back to the room between 2 and 3:00 and the cleaning service was just about to clean it and asked if she could […] have the room for 15 min. I would have said no, but the toilet was still filthy! So we left and came back. The toilet still had crusted fecal matter on the front of the toilet. I reckon its still there. Room 101.(2nd room from the street) Out side of that, the room had a tremendous amount of character. And the location was just outstanding. The lady at the front office was very kind, and i didn't get to address the toilet issue with her because when I checked out there was a lineup behind me of people checking in. Asilomar beach was so close and is an extraordinary beach. Monterey is extremely accessible by car or bike. My wife would probably not recommended the room because of the toilet not being cleaned but I would. Lesson for me: if wife says toilet is not clean, take care of it ASAP. Read more

Lovely remodeled motel, but bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. The walls are thin so even normal conversation can rumble through. A nice-sized refrigerator was a plus, but the laminate flooring only made the gurgling and groaning of its defrost cycle louder. Odd lighting made it difficult to read in bed. We had a fabulous stay at this location. Walking-distance from the beach and the walking trails that lead along it. The manager and crew is super-nice and very accommodating. Parking is sometimes a challenge but not a huge issue. We stayed over the course of 3 days and wandered from there into Monterey, Carmel-By-The-Sea, and Big Sur. I love the Sunset Inn. Pacific Grove is a sanctuary of the central coast that thankfully goes unnoticed by the vast majority of Californians! Sunset Inn is located 1 mile from notable eateries like Passion Fish on Lighthouse Ave, about 2 miles from Lover's Point, and 3.5 miles from Cannery Row. Close enough to everything for easy walking, biking, and […] driving access, but removed from it all for the peace, quiet, recreation, and deer watching that you're looking for. Barbara is very accommodating and allowed us early check in for a wedding my wife and I were attending later that day. The breakfast is provided for you - fresh selection of bagels, yogurt, oatmeal, OJ, coffee, etc. Rooms have beautiful stone rain showers, everything recently upgraded, awesome fire places, and nice flat panel TVs. We chose Pacific Grove because it was close to both Monterey & Carmel. Asilomar Beach was really great too. Sand to walk on & rocks to climb on. The low tide pools with lots of sealife were awesome. This place was great....until I wanted to go to sleep. We had an EXTREMELY inconsiderate couple next door who kept us up until well after 1am. The fridge was also very noisy but that was solvable by unplugging. Nothing that management could have done-unless I called them in the middle of the night I suppose. Maybe if they reinforced to guests a "quiet […] time," (i.e. 10pm) perhaps that would have helped? Whatever, the room was great and comfortable, breakfast was enough for me being I am not a big breakfast eater, and I liked that my husband and I were able to take a (long) walk to/from the downtown area for dinner. I would stay again but ask for a rm away from other guests if possible...and if not possible, I would probably not spend this kind of money to have a poor night's sleep despite everything else positive. We decided to stay at the Sunset Inn for three days. At the end of the first day we found that it was impossible to get any hot water in our shower. We reported it to the front desk and they told us that the water controls were put in backwards and therefore we had to turn the controls in reverse as to what would be normal. After trying that approach […] we found that it was still impossible to obtain hot water. We had the management try and they were unsuccessful. The best that they could offer us was for us to temporarily go to the next building and shower and then return to our room. They told us that in the morning they would have maintenance repair the hot water. At the end of the next day we tried to get hot water in our shower but to no avail. The management then decided to move us to another room that evening and we were then able to get hot water. I found the breakfast they offered to be lacking in selection and quality compared to other Inns of similar quality . Read more

This place is nice IF you don't stay in the only room on the property that has another room over it. The rest of the rooms are 1 story bungalows. The hard floors overhead transmit EVERY step of the people upstairs as if they were a herd of rhinos. You can forget about sleeping a wink if they're up late walking around. It's ridiculous. The only thing I disliked about this hotel was that the walls are paper thin. Unfortunately I could hear the person int he next room snoring all night long.

Nice clean comfortable room with a small fridge and a fireplace. great location, walking distance to Asilomar state park and pacific grove golf course. I was very late getting in and the manager waited up for me.

I picked this Inn because all the other ones I saw were outdated and haunted looking. I wanted to pick something that looked modern in a quiet area but close to Monterey and the beach so this Inn was perfect and because I was visiting with my boyfriend, I wanted him to like it. We got there late at night after our dinner so the check-in office was closed […] so we had to call and Barbara the lady who works in the office came down in her pajamas to let us check-in which was really sweet of her. Our room was like a modern country bedroom, spacious bathroom (shower had nice accents) and was impeccably clean. Reviews said the walls were thin but it was quiet the whole night and morning. Breakfast was great, I got bagels (plain and sesame) with cream cheese, jam and nutella, coffee and orange juice and Barbara let me take it to my room. Parking is right next to the room! This is a very nice inn in cozy Pacific Grove (not as busy as Monterey). Nice room with fireplace and jacuzzi bathtub for two as well as LCD TV. We stayed one night here, rather than in Monterey, and loved the quaint cottage motel situated near Asilomar Park and the beach. The rooms were small but nicely appointed. It was quiet and peaceful there. The breakfast could have been more interesting. But the receptionist/owner was very pleasant.

The decor and people that work at the Sunset Inn are great and totally appropriate for the area. The walls however are made of the thinnest material ever. If you speak at anything over a wisper your neighbors will hear you. Plus there is only heat, no A/C or air of any sorts. So if you are not an extremely sound sleeper or if you are not into exibitionism […] then this place is not for you. They have bagles, cereal and OJ in the morning for breakfast and the lady working the front desk is amazing. The rooms are small but nice and the bathrooms have great little setups. The Sunset Inn is a perfect little inn in a quiet neighborhood and only a block away from the ocean. Barbara, the manager, was wonderful and tried to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We'll be back again!

Loved the fireplace in the room, and the down comforters on the bed. The decor is not the usual ugly motel room style. I would definitely stay there again and have already recommended it to several friends.

The hotels in Monterey were so much more expensive and for only being a mile or so away this lovely inn was just perfect. It has that feel of a California coastal motel but the rooms were much more than I'd expected. Lovely stone shower and fireplace, along with extra pillows, wi-fi and a flatscreen tv made our stay really nice.

We stay in this neighborhood every Thanksgiving but have never stayed here before. The room was charming but small. We were comfortable and enjoyed our stay until we went to use the shower. There was no hot water and very very little water pressure. We had hot water at the sink but not the shower. The management did not seem overly concerned. I was disappointed that the hotel gave away my room and didn't contact me prior to my arrival. The shower barely put out any water, and "C" gave hot water and "H" was cold - which I found out only after calling the front desk to complain. Our room was lovely, and we enjoyed the fireplace. We brought bikes with us and had a great time riding along the Monterey Bay Coastal Bike Trail.

Wonderful Inn! Great location, beautifully remodeled, friendly consierge, convenient. We would recommend this lovely inn to anyone traveling in the Monterey/Carmel area.
