"May be better for families than couples..."
The initial escort to our room was bizarre. We were to follow our guide in his golf cart; however, he took off so fast that we were fairly certain that we followed the wrong cart. He never looked back to see if we were following, and he had someone in his cart that he appeared to be giving a tour. We were too far to turn around at that point without […] getting lost, so we kept following. Luckily we had followed the correct guide. Once we got to our room, he was showing us how to operate everything, but couldn't get the fireplace to work. He decided that the last people turned it off at the switch rather than from the wall dial, so he turned it back on but didn't notice that the wall dial didn't work, which caused the room to become very hot, very quickly. Not a huge deal, but aggravating. The layout of the room itself was strange, but it was clean and quiet. There wasn't a place to hang wet towels, except over the tub, so we ended up with a huge amount of dirty towels. Getting back to our room in the evening wasn't easy. The lighting is non-existent in some areas of the resort and you can't see the signage. We got lost and had to turn around to get directions, then still missed the sign where we needed to turn. The arcade was nice, but it was so hot that you could only stay for a few minutes before you had to leave to get some air. For the money, I wish we would have rented a cabin instead. We went for an overnight with our daughter. When I booked I wasn't aware it was time share sales I thought I was booking a room at a resort when I arrived I waited 20 min at 2 counters before the guest service clerk informed me she wasn't waiting any longer for the sales rep who Was suppose to escort us to our room and try to get us to take 90 min tour next morning went up mountain to room where […] there was no parking for our car and waited 3 hours for a crib and high chair made 6 calls to desk because I needed them to feed and nap the baby gave upand went to resturant off property .water park next day no parking and wasn't told we could get a shuttle from room until I complained about parking . On up side rooms were beautiful and water park was very nice but I wouldn't buy a time share on account of inconvenance issues and believe it or not when I called the sales rep to express all of the issues I had when checking in she never even offered to do anything to make it up to us for 3 hour wait or the fact she never met us at check in . "I would come back if my two rooms were together..."
i reserved two rooms and they were several buildings apart (303 and 325) with no real effort to help put me any closer to my 16 and 21 year old daughters. Why would I book two rooms and not want them if not neighboring than at least close? I was not happy about that. Our stay was nice however and the location was perfect. Normally we have the availability to grant most room location requests, however, there are times when we are extremely busy that we just do not have the availability. Because we are unable to grant each and every request when someone makes a reservation, and because we do not want to promise anything that we may not be able to deliver, we do indicate at the time you make a reservation that a request will be made with every attempt to fulfill that request. "Not worth the cost."
Seemed to be more of a time share rental. I could not talk to "hotel" directly. Tried to be more up scale then they were. There were additional costs for EVERYTHING-$80.00 to cleam room $9,97 per night on pet fee, $17.95 per person to swim. Dinner at hotel resturant was awful, sent back and didn't reorder. Had to reserve a time to go over survey with […] them and he canceled and that is when I figured out they were trying to sell time shares or something and since I was a single woman felt like they thought I couldn't afford it. Also booked it as a smoking hotel and it was no. Two bedroom turned into two different rooms, which was ok but deceiving. Had a room right across from buses and golf carts and was constant noise. A do not disturb sign is an invitation from the staff to knock repeatedly and enter in any way. The wall and floor separation between guests is minimal; so every word and sound will be heard. "Our unpleasant stay"
Hotel staff made us feel unwelcome because we weren't " Owners". Price was extremely unreasonable. Our room was so tiny four of us had to walk over eachother at bedtime. Overall, the resort has its merits, however, the pictures of the rooms greatly exaggerate their actual appearance. We stayed in a "studio style" condo that was so small, 2 people could not move around comfortably at the same time. The bed was pushed into a corner so that you could only enter it from the bottom or one side. That was directly abutted […] to a couch with no room in between. The kitchen was tiny and practically useless for anything other than preparing snacks, and even that was a struggle. The furniture and fixtures appeared to have been transplanted from the 1980s and while they do offer WIFI service, you are only allowed a single device connection before being charged additional fees. Very clean rooms, pleasant and helpful staff. Water park was so much fun!! The lodge has a beautiful fireplace with sofas to sit and read or just hang out and play checkers. "A Little Disappointed"
I can't remember the last time I had to pay for wireless at a hotel; long enough ago that I no longer check that it is included when booking. It was $10/day at Westgate, very surprised by that. "Awful family trip, disappointed"
Well, it took an hour and a half to check in. Then we did get a room that was super tiny and way up a mountain that you had to basically hike to because you couldn't park up there (hard on a 76 year old great grandmother who came along). The dinner was pretty sad for a resort, which was also a very long walk in the cold rain. The kids were dying to […] get in the pool so we drove to it, then it was an additional charge per person for the pool area on a resort room that was already pretty costly it was not listed anywhere that it would be an additional fee. It was very cold in there but we did that for a couple hours then drove back to the room and parked and walked the mountain back to the room because there was no parking spaces. (keep in mind we were wet too) The shower had hair in it and the room was very small. There was no coffee and no breakfast. I was very disappointed and will never go back. "Disapointing stay at Westgate"
The room had numerous problems. The shower door wouldn't close properly,and due to an oversize counter top the toilet seat would not stay in a raised position (Tricky for us guys) The a/c unit was loud,the ceiling fan was missing the draw chain. We could hear conversations from the adjoining rooms and the sound of water rushing down the pipes. The maintenence […] staff was very helpful and friendly, but even they voiced some concerns on how the resort was designed. The day we planned on using the water park voucher we discovered that a pump had gone bad and part of the park would be closed until the next day. We requested refunds but were told this could not be done. We were told to keep them for "future use?" or, if we wanted, redeem the voucher and try to sell the tickets to another guest at the resort. The tickets could only be redeemed at the water park during operating hours (between 11-6) and since were leaving we just gave the voucher away I also couldn't figure out why, with it being October the enclosed water park closed so early (6 pm. ) while the outdoor pool remained open (until 11pm). The surroundings were beautiful and the staff friendly, but they were not willing to correct anything that involved refunds or credits. If you choose to stay at Westgate be sure to get every detail taken care of right up front, because they are going to hang on to every penny. We have forwarded your comments concerning the room to our engineering department as concerns for future stays. Unfortunately our water park hours are reduced during the fall and winter seasons, however we do offer extended hours on weekends to compensate for higher occupancy. If given the chance, we would love another opportunity to show to you that our goal is to exceed all of our guests expectations.
My only complaint is we could only find one electrical outlet in the room and it was under a table. There needs to be a couple on the night stand for cell phone chargers, etc. The only other outlet was in the bathroom and the hairdryer was plugged into that one. The rooms were very small, but nice. Only 1 small window in the front that made for a very dark room. We were surprised when we checked in that we had to pay additional "resort fees" that no one told us about. So, we found out the hard way that this was not a hotel and there would be no maid service! I originally planned to stay in this hotel for 1 night on the way to another destination and then 2 nights on the way home. But, after going the initial night, I cancelled the return trip altogether. I didn't do my research before going and was surprised by a few things: 1) this isn't an actual hotel, but is seperate buildings up the mountain. Which […] does make it very pretty, but they FORCE you to be escorted by a "bell boy" to your room...so plan on a tip there. 2) I did expect the resort fee that is listed on hotels.com but I didn't realize that the waterpark is an extra $18.95 per person on top of that. Also, our room was very nicely laid out and decorated...but the walls were PAPER thin. Not only could I hear the neighbors talking...we could hear their actual words they were saying. * This is a timeshare! Expect a sales presentation by your "concierge". * Admission to the indoor water park is $18.95 per person, per day. It is not included in the price for the room. * They also charge a resort fee of $9.95 per night, to cover WiFi (slow), the gym, cable TV, and in-room safe (really?) * The Smokehouse Grill serves country gravy made […] from a packet, and instant grits. The rest of the food they serve is just as mediocre. The only reason to eat there is if you don't feel like driving into town for real food. * Sidewalks end abruptly, and don't connect to each other. Wheelchairs and walkers have to dodge traffic to get to the main lodge. They have shuttles, which take you around the property, but using one to get across the street is impractical. * The check-in procedure takes 15-20 minutes per room. I'm not exaggerating. The couple behind us waited 45 minutes to get their turn. * Other than that, the resort is beautiful, the staff is friendly, and the rooms are nice (but there's no daily room service).
