This is a very nice hotel in the heart of Clayton MO. The St. Luis County Courthouse is nearby and other county offices. Lots of hotels and restaurants in the area. The staff was very helpful in relocating me after I requested a room that was not next to an ice machine. One drawback (not related to the hotel) is St. Louis County allows smoking in bars and the bar/restaurant are a continuous facility, with a sports bar motif. St Louis County should join the rest of the civilized world on the smoking issue.

During my reservation, I requested a non-smoking room, but was given a smoking room upon check-in. The clerk informed me that the hotel was booked the following night, so no non-smoking rooms would be available. However, they would not place us in a non-smoking room for the first night and move us the second. The clerk generously gave us one drink coupon (to share) for our inconvenience. The room (#2002) overlooked the lobby with an inoperable, dark stained-glass window. The lobby staircase is on the other side of the room's west wall. Laminate flooring had been installed and it was very oily and dirty to the point of leaving footprints with each step. This substance also turned our feet black. I immediately requested that housekeeping clean the floor while we went out for dinner. Upon our return, the floor was still oily and dirty. I immediately went to the front desk to request that they clean the floor or move us to another room. The desk clerk informed me that housekeeping had left for the night and there was nothing she could do, aside from offering us breakfast for two in the hotel's restaurant. The following day the floor was cleaned, but not free of the oily substance covering it. The bathroom door was splintered with peeling paint and the caulk around the sink basin had separated from the counter. The round table in our room had a very loose and unstable top. Although the bed was very comfortable, the room was disappointing and very noisy from the lobby below and the adjacent staircase. In addition to the above, the lobby's player piano, right below our window, played all day from approximately 10 am to midnight. At 1am during the second night of our stay, a hotel guest began "playing" the piano for 1/2 hour. NEVER ACCEPT ROOM 2002! This room should never be rented. We were very disappointed in the level of service with the oily, dirty floor and the noise level. We won't be back and won't recommend Crowne Plaza Clayton to anyone.

The hotel is actually a few buildings made into one hotel so the elevators are kind of confusing as to which ones to use to get where you need to go in the hotel. FREEEEEEE game room! No quarters or tokends needed. Its has 6-7 games and a fuzball table. The staff was great, they got me directions to anywhere and everywhere I wanted to go. They printed them right off the computer for me. They were super. I would definetely stay here again. They do not have vending machines in the hotel though, only ice machines. Every room has a small fridge that you can get a key from the front desk to use. It has sodas, candy, liquer, for a charge. Room Service was outstanding!

The staff was extraordinarily friendly, helpful and competent. I've stayed in three Clayton hotels over the past several years and the Crowne Plaza remains a solid choice. I like the convenience of being in walking distance to some excellent restaurants and Clayton is only a short drive to the airport. My only reservation about the Crown Plaza is the strange layout of the building. There are two elevator systems that serve different parts of the hotel. The garage is accessed through the 2nd floor but one has to go to the lobby to check-out and then haul luggage back to the 2nd floor to depart. It's not the worst problem one might encounter at a hotel but the Crowne Plaza is less streamlined than other Clayton hotels in regard to access to rooms and access to garage. The Crowne Plaza is in Clayton which is a safe neighborhood with great up-scale dining choices. The hotel location may not be a good choice if one is planning to spend a good deal of time downtown. However, the Crowne Plaza is closely located to places like the Central West End, Forest Park with its fine art museum and zoo, the Gallleria Shopping Center and, as stated above, the airport.

We stayed there over Thanksgiving 2008 and we have no hot water the first night we arrived. My 1st call resulted in a maintenance guy sent to our room to fix it and he did. However, the next day the problem persists and I had to call the desk again. They moved us to another room and we opened the door, the room is still occupied and we backed out silently. The manager was very apologetic, gave us a different room, 2 breakfast vouchers and refunded 1 day payment. It turns out the room is the Presidential Suite and we could not be happier (even though we only sleep there and spent the rest of the day with our family elsewhere). Thus, we will definitely come back next time we are in town.
