"2012 Cacun Trip"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
This was great place to stay, no screaming sring breakers. This is an adult oriented all inclusive hotel. The food was excenllent, you have to try the rotisserie chicken on the beach!

"Amazing Location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
Na Balam got some underserved poor scores. The location happened to be the best location on the island (as far as beaches go), and fairly convenient to excitement of down town. The grounds were spectacular, and for such a reasonable price. Front desk and beach bar staff were not amazing, but not bad either. They could do some training on customer service in order to make it a more magical experience, but all in all, it was acceptable service.

The Cancun Hotel Zone rests on a slit of land bound by a lagoon and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Sunseekers crowd the white-sand beaches. At night, the action moves to the restaurants, clubs, and bars that line Boulevard Kukulcán, the area’s main artery. This road passes by the El Rey ruins, believed to be a king’s tomb.

I enjoyed my stay. The people there are really friendly and helpful, the rooms are simple but nice and clean. About a 10 min walk to the beach.
"Staying near the Nichupte-lagoon"
I liked very much this hotel, I stayed here 3 nights after a Congress. It's a quiet clean budget hotel with all the basic needs: peaceful environment, comfortable bed, shower in room, supermarket nearby, kind personnel, air cooling system. No breakfast.
"grand royal - great hotel for the money"
I stayed at the grand royal lagoon for three weeks in february. Could not have had a better time. Hotel is located in a great area, the room was clean and comfortable. watched the sun rise every morning from my balcony, and a very short walk to the nicest beach in cancun. the staff was friendly and helpfull, and they have there own palapa style bar […] that serves great food right on the dock overlooking the lagoon. you cant beat this hotel for the price. "Grand Royal Lagoon, Cancun: relax on budget"
Good lagoon view, service, pool, hammock, grounds Bad location, room smelled damp
"Cheap but will not get satification"
If you want to really save the money then it is okey otherwise i would recommend something better than this.
"Hotel Grand Royal Lagoon"
Good place to stay inexpensive. The people are friendly and helpful . Good place to stay on a Budget .
"you get what you are paying for"
The place seems more like a motel than hotel. Room service is good. Breakfast is ok but the servers only spoke Spanish. One receptionist was great the other was horrible. The location is a bit far from the beaches but still in the hotel zone. There is a lake in the back that has crocodiles. We never saw any but others claimed they have. Overall you […] get what you pay for. Read more
"Very Nice!"
The room was clean, the staff was very nice and the breakfast was great!. Would definitely stay here again!
"Perfect, Quiet Setting away from Crowds"
Located right off the Main drag you can jump on the bus ($8mx) to get into the crowds of tourists and shops in Cancun's Zona Hotelera. Quiet, safe, really clean, air-conditioned rooms with a refreshing pool. Lovely. They have a small, convenient bar on site and it much cheaper than to go to the stores. Around the corner from a coffee shop, mexican breakfast/lunch […] spot and a grocery market. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and genuinely kind and courteous. Definitely worth the inexpensive stay! Read more
"Grand Royal Lagoon"
The staff at the hotel was extremely helpful, we never had to ask more than once for anything we needed. The room was free through a promotion and was used for out honeymoon, It is not a hotel we would have booked for something as important as a honeymoon but the service was excellent. We did request a king room and there were not any available. The […] beds were not very comfortable but the breakfast was fresh. Read more
"Cheap Hotel in Cancun,Mexico"
It was a good cheap and small hotel. It was only 15min walking distance from the Congo Room area and Hard Rock Cafe. It was within my budget at the time. The hotel staff was great!!!. K
"grand royal lagoon"
Very basic hotel, polite staff, good for those people on a budget. Very good price and location is great. Very close to bus stop, walking distance to grocery. Good for people like us who just needs a bed/room to sleep in and change then explore the city. Not much amenities. Has a small swimming pool that will entertain the kids.
"Mucho More Than I Expected!!!!"
Very Nice Place!!!! Affordable, Clean, Good location, Friendly Staff, Good Breakfast, Nice View To The Lagoon, With in a walking distance to the beach, plaza, mercado, stop bus, and downtown. Nice and clean swiming pool..... I'll definelly recommend this place!!!!
"Grand Royal Lagoon, OK Economy Hotel"
The Hotel was actually pretty nice for the price that I ended up having to pay. Room was pretty nice, older furniture and fixtures but in descent shape, Pool looked nice and was cleaned daily. My only major complaint about this hotel was that it had wireless internet but it was a horrible signal that was constantly failing and when I talked to the […] front desk I got a response of " Sometimes work Sometimes no Work " . which made communicating back home difficult. IF they get this problem fixed they would be a better choice for a stay. They are located pretty close to a bus stop bout 5-10 min walk which will take you anywhere in Hotel zone for less than $1. "for the price, and 1 night, it's ok"
It was a saturday night, during spring break, and I needed a clean room for the night before going to the airport in the morning. It was clean, no bugs, and the breakfast included with the price made it. The ceiling in the bedroom was leaking pretty bad, and he showed me it when I got there. If I was using it for a vacation hotel, no way.

"Great place to stay for the money!"
Super friendly staff. Near the bus stop or about a mile walk to the main bar scene with Coco Bongos, Carlos and Charlie's, DadyO, Bulldog, Hard Rock, ect. On the lagoon side, so no beach, but the main public beach near all the bars was very nice. I would definitely stay here again as I felt very safe in the area and the price was fantastic.
"You have to check this place out!!"
For first time travelers out of the country, it was just what we needed to enjoy the whole experience. It was so enjoyable and relaxing, my 11-year-old son and I had the time of our lives. When we left Cancun, we then stayed at an all inclusive resort in Cozumel, don't get me wrong it was very nice, but we had a much better time at the Grand Royal Lagoon. […] It was reasonably priced and the staff was very pleasant, my son even made friends with one gentleman there, he assisted my son in cracking open his coconut he found. We never had fresh coconut before it was delish. During our stay we enjoyed being close enough to all of the local shopping and activities, yet, far enough away to absorb the weather and experience. We will return. Read more
"Grand Royal Lagoon, Inexpensive but not nasty"

Shabby. Door key to our room didn't work. Hard bed. Good home cooked breakfast included. Glad we were only here 1 night before we moved to the beautiful Moon Palace.
"Nice Hotel"
This hotel was really nice. The room was clean and were cleaned daily. The staff was really nice and spoke English. It was in a quiet neighborhood. Check in time is at 2pm and it is strictly enforced.
"Budget place"
We stayed for one night before catching a flight back to US. It was OK.
"Great value!"
We scoured the web for good rates over New Year's. Most of the all-inclusives right on the beach were out of our range, but this place was a short walk away and super-cheap. So cheap, in fact, that we were a bit worried. We got to the hotel and checked in. Our reservation through hotels.com was in their computer, which was a relief. Our room was the […] smallest that it could possibly be to fit two double beds. Not a problem, really, just a bit funny. The room was a bit heavy on the air freshener, but it looked clean enough. The ceilings were a bit dusty, the tiled floors looked a little grimy (they could do with a bit of Tilex), and the beds were a bit hard, but none were serious turn-offs for the budget traveler. The bathroom was clean enough, and the shower was seriously hot and strong. All of our needs were met by the friendly hotel staff. The included breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs with bacon, some toast, and a few slices of fruit. The rest of the menu was mediocre. It's a short walk from the more prestigious all-inclusive resorts in the Hotel Zone. Really not out of the way at all. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit quiet, but not at all dangerous. All in all, a great value. Would definitely recommend for a budget stay. Read more

"Dump"
We stayed at this hotel 4 years ago for the night when the family went to Cancun as our resort was due to check in a day after. At that time it was a nicer place and had that mexican ambience. It has since declined. My husband and I spent 11 days in Mexico where we did some traveling. We decided to stay here for our last night in Cancun since we had […] an early flight and it was the cheapest place in the Zona Hotelera. We were surprised at the decline and the room had that old smell. The bedspread was nasty looking and that should have been our warning. Since we had been on the road for the past 5 hours we wanted to go out for a bite and shopping. We returned later and my husband turned down the bed, the sheet was nasty looking. If it had been washed well maybe but it did not appear so. We really have left or complained but we only had a few hours and slept on top of the blanket. We will never make this a 1 night stay again. If you want a cheap clean place go across the street to Beachscape Kin-Ha! Read more
"Cheap, Good location, Basics"
Within walking distance of the major clubs, the bus goes right by too, not on the beach, but easy to get to the beach & the ferry to Isla Mujeres, clean, near grocery store, near cheap day food spots (local), bed is like slate, air worked great, water a little fragrant, not much in terms of toiletries, includes a minifrig and cable, safe location, NOT […] a RESORT. GREAT if you need a place to crash, but don't intend to spend your vacation in the hotel. Read more
For the Price you can not beat it! They even include a great real warm breakfast what you want they will make it. At night the beers are only 15 Pesos. You are in the hotel Zone! Great Deal! Yes the rooms are older but look at what you are paying. I have stayed here many times and never had a problem once! Will be going back!

"Grand Royal Lagoon - Not so Grand"
Adequate budget hotel for individuals not looking for a beach experience. Room was average size with a mini kitchenette. It was on a second floor without elevator. This was a one night layover for us and this room was adequate for that purpose. Room included free wifi which worked most of the time and breakfast which was served in the outdoor cabana […] and was very good. Read more
"You get what you paid for ..."
2 nights at this hotel, it's about 15-20 min walk from the Coco Bongo, bus stops there every 10 min or so .. Road across the lagoon smells like garbage .. really bad. cross the street ... don't take a "romantic" boat ride. Hotel is more like 2.5 stars .. room was "ok" .. kinda old and needs few repairs here and there ... If you are going just to lay […] your head - then it's perfect .. If you want more - pay more. "Safe haven to crash the 5 star beach resorts"
Hang a right out of the hotel and you have a baguette sandwich shop, a full sized grocery store, the calm water beach of the Intercontinental Hotel, bus stops, and further down Coco Bongos and Daddy O discos, and many other resort beaches (RIU) with an internet shop across the street. Hotel's pool nicer than online photos. Room was surprisingly comfortable […] for the price. A/C worked but a little noisy. I tipped maids $1 daily as they scrubbed everything to a shine. Safety box in room and $25USD or 300pesos at the main office for a very safe and sane airport taxi. Do your own washing at the self service laundry or in the hotel sink! as the nearby launderia charges $10 for 2 shorts and shirts: ripoff. Everything is priced double what you'd expect to pay. Avoid McDonalds, KFC, and Subway as they are the absolute worst quality imaginable and go to the local restaurants. Jambalaya in the upstairs food court of Kulkakan Plaza is a great deal. Italanianis in the Isla Mall was terrible, try the Thai restaurant instead. Argentine steakhouse at Marriott good. Read more
"Perfect inexpensive hotel in Cancun!"
This was exactly what we were looking for. An inexpensive, clean, safe, and convenient hotel in the hotel zone. All we needed was a place to sleep for the night and spend our money/days diving. This hotel perfectly fit the bill! There's even free WiFi included. It's very convenient to get to either downtown or the other end of the hotel zone on the […] R1 bus which is a meager 8.50 pesos (~$0.65 US) each way and is available 24 hours. Read more
"Grand Royal Lagoon"
It was a really bad experience because one of the employees was very rude and disrespectful. It is too bad that one person can ruin your stay and the image of the hotel. The place is clean and according to the price but one of the receptionist is very rude.
"Grand Royal Lagoon in Cancun"
The hotel grounds are well maintained, the staff although mostly spanish speaking, were very courteous, friendly and helpful. The location just off Ave Kukulkan made both Cancun Town Centre and the Hotel Zone easily accessible but without all the noise from traffic and shops open late. I felt very safe at night because there was a night watchman on […] duty and the day staff began arriving by 6:00 a.m. I would most definitely go back there. Read more
This hotel is great for a low budget hotel. Its no five star but Its clean, the pool is ok, the breakfast was good..what more can u ask for. I would definately recommend to anyone looking for a nice hotel but on a low budget
"Cheap Hotel in Cancun - Grand Royal Lagoon"
Remember this, It is a cheap hotel. Do not expect anything more. The beds were hard, the hallway was noisy at night, but the room is cheap. We just had a long trip in Tulum Mexico and needed a one night stay in Cancun to make our flight in the morning. The hotel was great in that respect (Cheap and easy). However, next time I will fork over a few more […] bucks for a better hotel where I might actually get some comfortable sleep. Read more

"Grand Royal Lagoon"
It did not live up to my expectations.
"Grand Royal Lagoon in Cancun, a short walk to all"
Great hotel for the price, but the beds are hard, and the hotel is old. The outside pool and area looks good, and the lagoon looks good too. This is a cheap hotel, don't expect more than the price you pay. Walking to all the action is as simple as pie. You walk down to the main road and turn right. Stay on the right side of the road and keep on walking […] until you see the main attractions. Just keep in mind that the road splits and that there is a left side to the main road too. The hotel RIU Cancun has a beach located directly to the right of the hotel, by the traffic light, that has excellent views and water. There is a nice restraunt close to the hotel and there is also a grocery store. It is better to use american dollars, and they are accepted everywhere. Just keep in mind when you stay at this hotel, it is in a safe place, and safe neighborhood, with a five star country club adjacent to it and with million dollar houses also located close to it on the lagoon, but the hotel itself is old, in need of some repairs, and the beds are hard too. Just remember the price is right for this type of hotel. The closest ATM is located from the main road, turn right, stay on the right side of the road, and it is located next to KFC. Have fun !!! "Good for the price"
I liked the location of the hotel, it was within walking distance of all of the clubs in the Hotel Zone in Cancun. We just needed a place to stay on Friday before heading to our resort on Saturday and this definitely was good for the price of the room. We had a little mix up with our room, it was supposed to have a king bed, and this mistake was quickly […] corrected. Staff were friendly and helpful. The exterior doors were locked and you used your room key to get in, so I felt safe inside the building. The bed was very firm, but good enough for one night. Read more
"Sleeper and Value"
This is where one concludes: "Big value for the buck". This small hotel is old, but large room w kitchen, a/c, balcony + view; clean and plenty of hot water! Meals were very adequate and reasonably priced. But, this is a Mexican Hotel, so experience the culture and forget the tablecloths. Tiki-open-air bar/restaurant. Eclectic customers, few Americans. […] Pool was spotless. This is a 3-Star-plus! Read more
"Great value for Cancun hotel zone"
The Grand Royal Lagoon provided a great location in the Cancun Hotel Zone with easy access to all the main attractions in the area. The hotel is small, but has all the needed amenities. The pool was great after a hot day in Cancun. The bar was fantastic and cheap. The included hot breakfast was better than expected. The grounds were well kept. The rooms […] were not the greatest, but served all your needs well. The only real down side to this hotel were the hotel room beds. They were pretty hard. Overall, I really liked this hotel because it was a great value for a guest who did not need to be beach front. If you want luxury, do not stay here. If you want a nice hotel at a great price, then make this your pick. Read more

Central location. Very cheap price. Clean. Our room even had a balcony with a view of the lagoon. Staff was courteous.
"quiet safe friendly good local"

"cheap, great bare-bones non-beach option"
We weren't expecting any kind of resort (and it wasn't). But the rates were SUPER reasonable, the food & drink at the restaurant is cheap and good, and the room was fine. We only stayed here because we had to catch an early flight out of Cancun the next morning, so we just needed a good clean place to lay our heads - and this was perfect. The ping pong […] table is totally fun. A/C in the rooms is another plus. Read more
