Longhirst Hall Hotel - Morpeth

Excellent service, nice and friendly hotel employees, rooms are clean.Didn't have time to visit the fitness center. Hotel location is in such a way that you definitely need to have your own transport to go there.

The room i was allocated was a long walk from the reception, i had to go through 8 sets of doors and up and down stairs to get there. When i finally got to the room i had absolutely no phone signal and as a business user its essential that i needed mobile phone access. I spoke to receptioon and from the sound of the reply its not a unfamiliar complaint. […] I asked to be moved to a room with a better phone signal so was moved to a corner room and it was a slightly better signal albeit intermittant signal. Phone calls consisted of making 2-3-4 attemts to call to have just a short conversation. When the room was sorted i went to find the spa/gym. I found the spa in another building which was not free. £9 per hour to use a spa... Niot impressed. So decided on the gym instead. I got to the gym and tried to find the changing rooms, but was told that there weren't any but was advised to use the mens toilets instead. Again after my session there were no showers to use so had to walk through the hotel reception and 8 sets of doors later i was in my room where i could get a shower. I didn't risk being dissappointed again so decided to eat out at a local Indian. Read more

nice location abysmal food Cheese & spinach soufflé like hard Yorkshire puddings ! Steaks were too tough to bother to fight all of the way through without a steak knife . Cheese cake was foul . It appeared that junior chef was left to look after the restaurant whilst the chefs looked after the wedding which was on at the same time . As there is a wedding […] every weekend thats not a good advert ! Maybe stay at the hotel but get a cab to one of the good restaurants in Morpeth which are far better than Longhurst . A group of us had the most awful meal , the cheese and spinach soufflé had the consistency of Yorkshire pudding and was taken away without an apology or offer to remove it from the bill, scallops were tiny and three spread on a long dish with a tiny piece of the hardest prosciutto ; the steaks were all tough and it took 20 mins to get steak knives when […] most had given up ; there were 5 chunky chips per plate , steaks were served with a sauce with a skin ; two of the party had to wait a further 20 mins for the mains ; the lamb was served on cold mash which were sent back as they were too cold , all of the New York Cheese cakes were sent back as they tasted foul possibly off or under cooked ? Cheese and biscuits were nice though ! Following day at a wedding the wedding party were served ginger cake with fudge sauce when they ordered sticky toffee pudding . bar snacks were ok. Breakfasts were buffet style with staff unable to respond to replenishing trays so queues formed regularly. All very basic . When we saw the hotel from the road we thought that we had chosen well. We entered an imposing gate way and drove through some well tended grounds down a long drive and up to the imposing modern edifice which linked the very modern reception with the other older buildings. Beside the hotel was a freshly painted Manor House which was the beauty therapy […] and spa. This too looked impressive and of a five star quality. At this point we thought that we had made an excellent choice. When we entered the light airy modern reception it created the same quality feel as suggested by the outside of the building. The receptionist was polite, friendly and efficient and explained the odd route that we would need to take to get to our room, number 110. We found that this involved passing through 10 doors and climbing/descending 3 half flights of stairs as well as passing through a number of corridors giving access to the “200” and other “100” room numbers. Soon after leaving the reception area the quality rapidly declined. My husband detected a smell of sewage in the link between the bedrooms and the restaurant area. When we finally arrived at the room our disappointment was complete. It was shabby in the extreme with not just dirty but filthy carpets complete with cigarette burns on the carpet and the furniture. The room reeked of cigarettes notwithstanding that it was a non smoking room. The bathroom was in dire need of a refit and the overall size of the room was on the small side. We asked at reception if we could change our room and we were offered a fourth floor room (one of the “400s”) with the tiniest window we have ever seen in a hotel, which was misted with condensation, making the room incredibly hot and stuffy. So we took the least worst option and stayed where we were. Hi, We visited this hotel as a surprise for a friend's 50th. There was 10 of us in total. We could not have had a nicer time. The hotel and staff were excellent. They went out of there way to make everything really speacious even though the hotel was very busy with a wedding going on the same day. The setting was so peaceful and beautiful. Nice drive into grounds nice entrance into reception. really nice spa. Then... walk up to bedroom notice mould in parts of corridor ceiling. carpets worn and dirty, Bedroom- carpets worn dirty round edges of room. walls and skirting boards marked and scruffy, mould on window frame, spiders egg sack on ceiling above headboard. Divan bed worn, old dirty […] tatty looking. Old stain on sheets. Bathroom -black mould in grout really disgusting. Ask for a different room. Not much better.Told receptionist we were not happy but nothing she could do. Annoyed that we have wasted money stopping here. The Hotel is ina beautiful setting and looks very impressive on arrival. On entering the hotel we were'nt disappointed as it is modern, bright, clean and stylish. Comfortable bar/lounge area with friendly staff and large screen tvs. We stayed for the Great North Run so were only there for one night which is a shame as would have liked to have made use […] of facilities. We didn't have an evening meal at the hotel but breakfast was in plentiful supply. The rooms could probablly do with bringing in line with the rest of the modern feel of the hotel but were clean. Thought this hotel was excellent value for money; the room was simple and somewhat jaded, but very clean and well furnished. Admittedly there was quite a long walk through corridors to the room, but that's nothing unusual for this sort of hotel. I had an excellent bar meal in the evening and the staff were very friendly and helpful - in contrast to […] the breakfast staff the following morning, who were too busy bickering amongst themselves to pay attention to me when I was trying to ask them for some cereal bowls (these had run out, but no-one had noticed). Even when I finally caught their attention, I was left standing beside the cereal bar for nearly five minutes before someone actually managed to bring out some clean bowls. The grounds and frontage of this hotel was great - lovely old building, swanky reception etc, but our room was in another building and it was a tight squeeze and not in the slightest bit remarkable. It wasn't dirty or anything - just ordinary (and had no phone reception so I met all sorts on the stairs which did have a signal). The breakfast was a standard […] buffet.
