"Disappointed"
I have been coming to Cancun at least once a year since 1994. Have stayed at most high-end hotels in the Hotel Zone. Since Royay Sands just recently opened to all-inclusive visitors I have decided to give it a try. I was disappointed by essentially all aspects of the resort, from reception to the beach. Those who have seen good hotels should stay away. Most good reviews are clearly from those who didn't see any better...

"Zero complaints about this resort."
We have stayed at many all inclusive resorts and our common complaint is the food. This is the first time that the food has been good. Not great, but good, which is all I could ask for paying less than $1,000/person for a 5 night vacation in Mexico. There is no nighttime entertainment at the resort, so if you're looking for shows, etc. you will need to go offsite.

I will never use Expedia for another trip .. The reviews on this hotel was bogus it seems .. And the staff was horrid .. From the time of check in till we left .. The food was mediocre at best and worst of all my room was ransacked twice.. But no-one fessed up to it .. I tried contacting the mgt staff and was told there out of the country 4 times .. First time and last .. We had to move rooms twice upon arrival .. Second room still had fecis in the toilet and frig was not cold .. At all .. All inclusive isn't what it is either .. AT THE HOTEL !!! Worst ever!

"Comfortable, clean and good food."
i have a good experience at this hotel on April. Food was delicious, friendly staff and everyone speaks English. my only issued was the TIME SHARE REUNION. stay away from it, not worth it. we made a HUGE mistake, wish i can go back in time and walked out of it. now i am stuck with it. bad experience.

"Nice Relaxing Hotel"
My family arrived at the hotel around 7pm via Thomas Moore Shuttle arranged by the hotel. Check in was quick, front desk staff was nice. We got an oceanfront suite with generous balcony and panoramic view. Everyone was issued a wristband for the all inclusive package. We had dinner at Hacienda Sisal after check in since it is right next to the hotel. Even though we didn't have reservation, the restaurant was able to accommodate us. Overall service was good, the food is typical. The passion fruit margarita is a must try item at this location. The next nights, we had reservation at Captain Cove. The hotel shuttle take us to this lagoon side restaurant, about 10 minutes from the hotel. We chose outdoor sitting, which has an awesome view of the lagoon. The food was great. We decided to come back the second time on our last night in Cancun. I had an amazing grilled Grouper (first time I 've tried this fish). You can't go wrong with the seafood dish here. One thing of caution about dinning outdoor at this location is the mosquitos. They are hovering around at dusk and are looking for dinner themselves. We also visited and enjoy meals at El Conquistado, La Palapa, Char Hut, and La Veranda. All are decent, although I must note that La Palapa is a beach side restaurant with lovely view, steps away from the sands and water. The beach is very private and has lots of room. Beach chairs are placed in group of 4 and away from other palapa. Pools are lovely as well.

This was our first trip to Mexico and we would definitely return to this hotel. It was meticulously cared for and the service was fantastic. The native people are extremely friendly and we always enjoyed interacting with them.

"5 star hotel for a 4 star hotel"
Our stay from the moment we walked in to the moment we got into a taxi to head to the airport was awesome! When we first booked this hotel we weren't expecting much but we were totally wrong. The photos do not do the rooms justice- our 1 bedroom was HUGE! Full kitchen & big balcony. Estela was our concierge & was very helpful helping us decide on all our wonderful tours we did (jungle cruise- awesome! Swam with fishes all around you, Isla mujeres- TONS of fun & beautiful view that staff was great at keeping us entertained the entire trip, Xcaret- our tour guide Maurico was the best of best! He suggested we do certain activities & he's suggestions were on point! The shows are wonderful & the under ground rivers are something everyone needs to experience & for those who like excitement Adrenalina lives up to the name!, Chichen Itza- you visit one of the 7 wonders of the world that explains it all. We also got to visit a beautiful cenote. All the staff that brought us our delicious room service was very polite & respectful. Miguel at one of the poolside bars was very fun & kept the atmosphere up. This is not of those party all night hotels- you get to party it up all day AND get a good nights rest without any rude 3AM racket. PICK THIS HOTEL- you won't regret it.

"Great Stay Kid Friendly"
My 10 year old daughter and I came down to complete her scuba certification. The resort is very accommodating, room service is excellent and the pools are great. We plan to return in the future.

Limited on-site dining options/menu. Food was passable but nothing to write home about. Pools were great. Beach is not really suitable for swimming due to high volume of seaweed - obviously not in the hotel's control, but it is what it is. Staff was generally superb - great with our 7 & 10 year old children. Large rooms were great for 2 adults and 2 kids. Plenty of space; full kitchen - but not the Four Seasons if that's what you're after.

No one told me it was a timeshare. The room switching on a saturday was a waste of many hours because the line to get the new room key was so long. The room wasn't ready for hours after that. Very frustrating.

"Royal Sands stay"
The resort is great it's well maintained, clean and the staff is really friendly. The suites have a lots of room they have a kitchen, living room and separate master bedroom. Hotel restaurant has a morning buffet it is good, but they need to change it up not he same thing every morning. You get great views of the ocean different shades of turquoise and blue. At this time there's seaweed, but if you don't mind, it you should be fine. Watch out and beware for the time share folks. A special SHOUT OUT! to Pher in the hotel's restaurant, and to Roberto at the pool / beach. Will stay again at ressort.

"Great Hotel on the Beach"
We enjoyed a wonderful week at the Royal Sands taking advantage of the restaurants at the sister hotels. It was a great experience and we are definitely going back. The time share people offered you the chance to purchase but did not bother us once we told them we were not interested. The personal concierge experience with Nancy was excellent - she was so helpful and informative and booked our dinner reservations each evening.

"Nice hotel but dated"
The hotel was nice for the price we paid. It needs to be updated, it looks a little old. They don't have standard rooms with one king bed so my wife and I have to sleep in separate beds. The staff is great.

"Perfect Except for the Timeshare Tour"
The staff were unbelievably wonderful and nice. The room was beautiful with views of the pool and the sea, and the food was outstanding. The only bummer was the timeshare presentation we agreed to sit through to get a discount on a tour. "Two hours" turned into the entire morning, and I literally thought the roided up guy with the shaved head they sent in as the closer was going to take a swing at me when I had to say no for the fifteenth time.

"For the price, nice view of the beach and pool"
Upon reading some bad reviews, I was actually surprised to find everything was great. The photos actually looked more outdated than the actual resort. Everything from the exterior to the hotel room looked better than I expected. Food tasted fine until the 3rd day of the same food in the buffet. Recommend El Conquistador and Pirate's Cove (just make sure you reserve early. The taxis are great, but can cost about $9 per trip (distance of 5-10 min. ride). Buses are fast, and in my opinion the best way to travel up and down the hotel zone. Service of waiters out by pool area were fantastic. Our Concierge "Rachael" did a fabulous job booking things to do. However, like other reviews be aware of the timeshare reps. The discounts they offer may seem appealing, but it isn't worth the loss of 3-4 hrs of your priceless vacation. When our response was,"we weren't interested" they actually looked at us in disgust and asked "then why did we waste their time?" No wonder people call them "timeshare sharks". Other then that "disgust" moment, it was wonderful! Every server there deserved an extra tip!!!

"Great vacation."
This was our second time to stay at the Royal Sands. What a wonderful resort. The resort and location is beautiful and they cater to your needs. The food was really good, the staff was great and couldn't ask for much more. If there was a complaint, we had to move on Saturday and the room we moved to was definitely a step down. The room needed several repairs (balcony door, outlet in bathroom and our maid service dropped off as well). Still, it did not taint our overall opinion of the Royal Sands as a whole. Will definitely be our first choice in considering a return trip to Cancun.

Rooms very nice and pool area. Look out kids are not allowed in bars, sea very rough in August so red flagged most of time, mainly a pool holiday. Staff experience was varied, some staff were amazing others not so good, suggest getting a pool waiter who you build a relationship with, tip them well and your all set! Drinks were ok, standard all inclusive but food was great.

"Family Friendly Hotel"
Royal Sands is perfect for families looking to just relax and just have a good time. All the staff at Royal Sands are very friendly and made our stay stress free. Our concierge, Carla was very nice and helped us reserve several restaurants, including Captain's Cove. Please keep in mind that this is a time share resort and it's possible you will have to move to another room on a Saturday if your stay is the middle of the week to next week. Since we stayed from Wed. to Tuesday, we were told ahead of time we were going to be moved when we checked in.

"WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER"
THERE IS SO MANY BAD THINGS I CAN SHARE ABOUT MY STAY AT THIS HOTEL BUT TO START, THIS HOTEL IS OVERPRICED. I WAS DISCRIMINATED BY THE SECURITY PERSONNEL, I WAS ESCORTED TO THE LOBBY JUST TO VERIFY IF I WAS STAYING AT THE HOTEL, THEY DID NOT CARE IF I HAD MY WRISTBAND, THEY SAID IT WAS STANDARD PROCEDURE, BUT IT LOOKS THEIR "STANDARD PROCEDURE" JUST APPLIED TO SOME PEOPLE. THEY PUT MY ROOMS SEPARATED SO I SPEND A LOT OF TIME WALKING FROM ROOM TO ROOM. THE LOBBY STAFF AND SECURITY ARE AMONG THE MEANEST PEOPLE I MEET IN CANCUN. MY SON HAD AN ACCIDENT AT THE POOL AND STARTED BLEEDING AND THEY DON'T HAVE FIRST AID KIT, PLUS I WAS CHARGED BECAUSE I USED THE TOWEL TO CLEAN MY SON. I GUESS THEY PREFER THEIR POOL TO GET CONTAMINATED.

Although this is a beach front location we did not enjoy the beach because of the amount of floating sea weed. It made it almost impossible to enter the water. The hotel staff is very friendly and pleasant to deal with, and the food was good. The rooms could use an update and should dehumidified better. There was a musty smell in the room assigned to us. They brought in a dehumidifier but it didn't help much.

"I would NOT waste your money!"
The only reason I scored it somewhat high was because the cleaning crew was awesome. Everything closed around 10:30. Bed by 11 there is not much to do. Our personal concierge Martin scammed us out of 120$ for a jungle tour. We trusted him, he works for the hotel. We arrived at this super sketchy place, we left scared, looked online and it wasn't even legit. It was a fishing marina. I was scared to tell the hotel because it was just me and my younger brother. He called our room more than 5 times the next morning. It ruined everything. What kind of staff do they have?? To be honest that bittered our experience. The food was just okay, you constantly have to sign to tip staff, I guess you don't have to but whatever you do (even getting a bottle of water) you have to sign and write in your tip. You do end up spending money. Nothing fun is included with the package other than food which is mediocre, beach and pool. The food is dissapointing. They try so hard to Americanize food that you wish you could have something authentic. I am so dissapointed. The money is gone but they should really do something about their staff. I feel bad for whoever else has been scammed. I would NOT recommend this place at all. There were so many good reviews, don't be fooled.

"Do not stay there unless you are an owner!"
We had a terrible experience with this hotel. When we checked in we found that our room was in the back part of the hotel, on the first floor, in a tower far away from everything. The room smelled like urine (someone had urinated behind our bed). We went strait to the front desk and asked to be moved. We were told "that's the room you paid for lady" and to check back the next day. We had to sleep in a room that made our skin crawl and was no nicer than a low budget hotel in our own neighborhood. It was our wedding anniversary and I was in tears. They did not care, nor pretend to care. After speaking to two different managers we were told that the owners were the top priority of the hotel and that they only released rooms when an owner wasn't using one. (As if they had done us a favor by letting us book there and taking our money) On our very last day there, they moved our room but offered no apology, credits or refunds (they did finally clean the old room). The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the non desk staff is fantastic, but DO NOT STAY THERE if you are not an owner. You will be treated like a third class citizen, even though you pay over a thousand dollars for the "privilege" of their un-booked rooms.

The hotel was great and this was our second time booking this hotel. However, after booking one year in advance upon check in we were told that the two rooms I booked were in two different buildings and we would have to change rooms on Saturday night and we were checking out at 0530 AM on Sunday. We were constantly reminded that it was a time share and a hotel. In the initial booking the request was also made for two rooms close if not next to one another. Yes they upgraded us to a 1 bedroom suite however, there were 4 of us using 1 bathroom and two murphy beds rather than another queen or king bed. They kept saying but there is a kitchen. We were in an all inclusive and not cooking so what did that matter. Therefore, we will not be rebooking at this resort. Its a shame because it really was a great resort but does not make good on reservations.

Staff was great, food was ok. Only downside was when you book it it shows ALL the restaurants. But they are NOT all on site, they have buffet, sports bar and swim up bars, but all the other restaurants they have are all off site. Other than that a great experience. Next time we will go to the Royal Resorts Grand Residences.

Hotel was beautiful. Stayed in a single room two bed room. Very comfortable and had a great view of the ocean. Hotel cleaned up the washed up algae that comes up around this time. Perhaps to avoid it we will come earlier in June instead. Staff was very nice always asking about how they could make your stay better. All inclusive is the way to go! Chef at the pool makes ceviches and cocktails a couple times a week by main pool. So delicious! Great transportation shuttle to other royal resorts. Best restaurant by far was El Conquistador, fine dining and absolutely delicious. Captains cove was also a great eating spot!

First time in cancun. Will definitely return. Great resort. Clean. Safe. Staff is wonderful. Great beach. Great food.

"Great hotel. Service is outstanding."
Food was excellent and hotel staff was great. The Royal Sands is probably the best resort out of the Royal Resorts chain. Very kid friendly but great for adults as well.

"Great familia hotel."
Great hotel just the pool is a little deep. Kids really have to know how to swim, because if they don't you parents are going to have a hard time a the pool taking care of your child. The pool is about 4.5 feet all one level. Other than that the hotel is excellent and the food is great!

"Decent all-inclusive"
Royal Sands was average. The view is beautiful, pool area is great, and it's right on the beach with a ton of palapas. My only critiques would be that we were forced to change rooms halfway through our stay because of the time share schedule. When I expressed concern, they insisted that this was stated in the confirmation email (I never received a confirmation email). Also, the food is medium quality and I would be very careful with the buffet. I became extremely sick on the last day and seem to have gotten food poisoning. Other than those two things, it was a good stay for a good price. Lobby staff could be friendlier, but bar tenders and pool staff were top notch.

"Awesome Resort!!!!"
The staff is super nice and helpful. The food is great including the drinks. The staff provided fun games by the pool to keep everyone entertained. The beach is beautiful!! I would come back here every year!!! And Cancun Downtown is only minutes away from the Resort. I took a bus for a $1.00 to get to downtown. Best shopping areas for gifts. They have several bars and clubs. I felt so safe staying here!! The all inclusive package is the best deal for a vacation. Unlimited drinks, food and snacks!

"Great overall resort"
This is a beautifully maintained resort on a great beach. The rooms were very spacious, but beds could be a little softer. The staff was very friendly and helpful, we did not encounter a rude person all week. Food in the refine AI package was average at worst and in some cases excellent. My only complaints would be the size of the cups for AI guests at the bars, and that there could have been more wait staff at the beach and pool. Overall a great resort that we will be going back to.

"It's ok but not with kids"
Overall the hotel was very nice. BUT all the pools except the baby one were over 4.5 feet deep. Our pre-teen couldn't stand anywhere in the pools. I also found the willingness to sit through a presentation on time shares is commensurate with the attention you receive from the concierge.

"Great Honeymoon"
I went into picking a resort in Cancun totally blind as I had only stayed at one other resort with my family that was out of our price range for newly weds. I knew i wanted to be close to the malls and restaurants. Perfect. I compared resort after resort and stumbled upon The Royal Sands. It had everything i wanted my husband to experience for his first time in Cancun for our budget. Swim up bars, large pool, palapas on the beach. There was something fun going on at the pool every day; volleyball, bingo, music etc. We went with all inclusive which my husband definitely got our moneys worth by room service and the swim up bar alone. we had about 5 restaurants that were included with our package 2 of which were off site which was nice to get dressed up and go out. The staff was outstanding! Miguel was our waitier at the buffet restaurant by the pool. His hospitality and friendliness was something special. All in all everything i was hoping this resort would be it was. We will definitely be visiting again.
