I was a little disappointed . I was specting a more lush facility for the money I paid. I think this hotel is overpriced. I do have to say the staff was wonderful very pleasant and atentive.

First things first: this is a time share, not a traditional hotel, although you can rent unused rooms similarlly to hotel rooms. However, the time share owners buy/rent their rooms on a weekly basis: Saturday to Saturday. This means you will likely have to switch from one room to another if your stay includes a Saturday night and you arrived prior to Saturday. The staff is very helpful with the process but it was an inconvenience to pack up/unpack mid-stay and go through the room swap process with the front desk. The facility is very nice. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is very friendly helpful although sometimes it seemed that they were stretched a little thin at the main check-in desk and providing food/beverage service around the pools/beach. The staff around the pool/beach were working very hard, just far outnumbered by the demand for service much of the time. Room service was great. The beach is beautiful. The food at the main restaurant, La Veranda, was reasonably good for a mainly buffet setting. The restaurant staff was very helpful and accomodating. The adjacent Hacienda Sisal restaurant was excellent. The food at La Tratorria (Italian restaurant at sister Royal Cancun) was inconsistent, some food was very good, some was not so good (my Salmon was dry/overcooked/flavorless).

nice facilities (lobby, pools, sports etc), private beach, extremely clean hotel and rooms. However, (a) the rooms (we had a standard two beds room) are very simple with two small beds (not queen) and definitely not 4 star hotel standards rooms. The balcony was a narrow strip with no chair(s) and we had a view of a flat roof that served other people to sit in and look into our room; (b) the restsurants on the premise were not of 4 star hotel either. It was disappointing that you had to take a shuttle, a car or a bus to get to the other restaurants as part of the all-inclusive and they were not up to the high standards the hotel claims to be. Except of breakfast we did not have a meal to brag about. Overall it is a 3 1/2 stars hotel!

We have just returned from a 9 night all inclusive stay over Christmas and really enjoyed our stay at the Royal Sands. We arrived on a Saturday and the first week was really good heading towards excellent. The resort was excellent, the staff attentive and the food very tasty. We were feeling relaxed and rested when Saturday came around and the hassle of having to change units had us wishing we had just stayed for 7 nights and were heading home instead. After the change over the hotel seemed must busier, rowdier and less relaxing. The service wasn't as good for our last few days and by then we were getting fed up of the offerings of the on site restaurant. The food was still excellent but it was the same for breakfast and lunch every day. We went to their other resorts- Royal Islander and Royal Cancun but they were not as nice as the Royal Sands and not worth the trip to eat. The other restaurants in the all inclusive package-Sisal and Captain's Cove were excellent and we had dinner at both restaurants a number of times. The conciege service was awful. Ours spend more time trying to sign us up for the timeshare presentation than doing anything for us. Rachael promised to arrange a birthday cake for our daughter's Christmas day birthday dinner at Sisal and despite double checking with her the day before no cake arrived after our meal. Another time they failed to make our dinner reservations.

We enjoyed the all inclusive resort but were disappointed to come back to our room on second night to find water dripping in from floor above. Called desk. Maintenance came promptly but could not fix leak. No shower! We gave permission to access unit next day while we were touring. Came back late. Asked if problem solved and assured it was. Leaking still happening. Again, no shower. Checked out next day. Complained and the response was 'sorry'.

Great family vacation hotel. Hotel is beautiful, friendly staff, great food and drinks. Stayed in the the 2 bedroom suite and it exceeded our expectations. Large, clean and what a view! The property itself is lovely! Many fine pools and lovely grounds. We found the beach to be gorgeous, but the ocean was very rough (perhaps because of the time of year which was mid-December). The beach itself was well kept, clean and patrolled frequently by service staff offering food and drinks to the sun worshippers. Little flags on poles could be stuck in the sand near your spot and the waiters would know that meant you needed service. We found this most helpful...However, some of the beach staff was more attentive than others! When you found an attentive one, you sought him/her out for all future beach visits. There were plenty of umbrellas & lounge chairs ~ the beach was never crowded (again, possibly because of the time of year). Pools were kept beautifully clean and service there was also very good, but like the beach, if you found a great server, you stayed with that person throughout your stay. Restaurants are very limited. A buffet for bkfst, lunch & dinner with just ok food, but eally fabulous staff...friendly & helpful...they remember your name! There's the pool Food Shack that provides really good lunches and alcoholic drinks, but closes at 5pm so unless you need an early dinner, it doesn't help much. There are 2 giant pool areas with swim up bars and there were no crowds at all. Reservations can be made at specialty restaurants the morning of...a big help in stopping people from hogging the spots ahead of time. It's all equal. Call in the a.m. and you're good!

The hotel can be easily 4 star or even 4.5 star rating. Good location. Room is comfortable and clean. The major reason for 3-star rating is that we booked a tour via the hotel and the shuttle did not arrive. Then the hotel staff found another shuttle that arrived one hour and half late. The shuttle driver was very unprofessional and the whole trip turned into a bad experience and we had to come back without making to the destination.

Had a lovely vacation, with Royal Sands exceeding my expectations. Extra clean areas, super-friendly staff, and great weather - felt like a little paradise. Offered activities are diverse enough, but at the same time are not intrusive and do not impact those who wish not to participate. Dinner options are great both within the on-premises food place, and Hacienda Sisal, a more upscale place adjacent to the parking lot.

Can't beat the heated pools and all the beach space with palapas. Pool and beach staff were great especially Mario. Also great to have the store on premise for incidentals, good wine and whatever you need. On Expedia it says you MAY need to change rooms if your stay overlaps a Saturday. I aksed the front desk and they gave me the look that you WILL have to move on Saturday. OK then but I had to call at 11:40 before they showed up and the time frame given was 11:00 to 11:30. Both units were fine and had a south facing balcony which is a great advantage in December. Only other comment is that breakfast, like most all inclusives is the best meal of the day. Ceviche on the beach was very good though. Tip: Use the ATM at Kukulcan mall for pesos but the resort did not provide a "bad" exchange rate.

Excellent resort! My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon the first weekend in December. Attentive wait staff (both in restaurants and at the pool), knowledgeable concierge (thanks Jose Luis!), and very clean rooms and facilities. We had the Refine all-inclusive package and the food was great and the drinks were too. My only (very minor) complaint is having to sign a receipt for every meal we ordered - it seems excessive. But overall, we had a fantastic time and would come back again in the future!

My wife and our two kids (8 mos. and 4 yrs.) just returned from our stay at The Royal Sands. Overall, this is a fantastic resort. Here's a little breakdown of the highs and lows: Location: Great - close to the airport, great beach. Food: The options on site are limited. There is a sports bar, a poolside grill, and the catch-all restaurant: La Veranda. We ate mostly at La Veranda and were never disappointed. The buffet was great, there was always a cook that would make food to order, ordering off the menu was great as well. I wish there were more options on site, but we were always pleased with our meals. Staff: Excellent in every way. Every person was pleasant and helpful. Kids Club: Excellent staff and my son had fun. The only frustration is that very few children attended (which the hotel can't control) - but there were times where my son would have been the only kid there. Grounds: Beautiful and clean. The pools really are outstanding. Frustrations: They are minor. Timeshare component: The fact that this is a timeshare resort means that many of the people are not on an all-inclusive option. Because of that, there seemed to be a greater pressure to tip at every turn than I have experienced at other resorts. This pressure was probably mostly self-inflicted, but it was there nonetheless. We bought an all-inclusive package but most people who stay at this resort are time share individuals who have differing or no packages. The staff did not explain to us upon arrival the process of “paying” for meals and what was included and not included (restaurants are not included and have surcharges). Upon arrival they give you a package of an overwhelming amount of paperwork that is difficult to sort through and information between documents was not consistent (open days/times were wrong on documents). It was inconvenient to get to dinner locations and the staff was not good at communicating what the shuttle schedule was (varies per restaurant) and what restaurants we could go to with our package. The shuttles were rarely on time and you had wait 30 minutes in order to get on a shuttle and they didn’t run at convenient times. You were required to sign up for a shuttle 30 minutes ahead of time, sign up at 7 and wait for a 7:30 shuttle. Most restaurants were also too far to comfortably walk to (over 30 minute walk) so you were limited to 2 restaurants onsite. The overall staff was friendly and nice, but the sales people (personal concierge) were very annoying. They set you up with a 'personal concierge' who is basically just trying to sell you packages and services all week. They are relentless and don't take no for an answer, quite annoying when on a vacation to relax. At one point our personal concierge chased us down as we were trying to go to the pool to relax

Resort is clean and very pretty Many activities for those interested in partaking. Food was pretty decent. Would like bacon served with breakfast at least once a week. Beach is gorgeous and pools are clean and well maintained. The spa service was wonderful too. Overall.the service is excellent. The service workers are very friendly and helpful. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star rating is because of how they handle their all inclusive package. Even though you have a wristband you are not able to receive any services until you hand over your room key. Your key is the held hostage until they give you a bill for zero with a tip line which forces you to tip before you can relieve your room key back. Upon arriving you have to give the hotel a credit card which is automatically charged for 500.00 dollars. You are not able to use cash for anything on the hotel, everything needs to be billed to your room. The first day I left a 5.00 top for the maid on the bed and did not tip the second day, so the maid left me an envelope for me to place a tip into if I choose to, and I found that to be offensive. Additionally this is a time share hotel so you also have that to deal with. The pool is open until 10 pm but the pool bars close at 800, which was annoying.

Great central location, beautiful beach with plenty of loungers on beach and pool. For an all inclusive it had terrific food, especially at the restaurants haciendo sisal and captains cove. some of the staff were incredible - hats off to gustavo at the beach - the man works hard to please everyone. when problems arise, and inevitably they do, the staff really struggle to respond. i saw this occur many times over. for us on the day of leaving we had a charge for damaged sheets on our bill which absolutely was not done by us. so as we are getting ready to leave we asked for an explanation. the damage was reported by the cleaning staff. they thought it might be from a new tattoo .....which i had to chuckle at as my wife and i dont have any tattoes on us. we had to escalate to a manager, but there is usually never one at front desk that we saw. no guarantees on when he could come and we had to leave....so a bit stressful. took 20 minutes but eventually did come and resolved issue. bad way to leave a good vacation though.

Overall very happy and would go back to this hotel. The furniture in rooms is outdated, but comfortable. Property has a wonderful beach and we especially were happy to see well kept tennis courts. It is difficult to find hotels in this area with good tennis courts. Easy to catch a bus or walk to near by shopping

When I first got to my room it was clean but, absolutely nothing was in the refrigerator that was supposed to be there. No water no soda no alcohol or beers. I then called and they said they refill it everyday. So they brought 2 of each beer, water, and soda. I then asked the guy "Carlos" to bring me more waters I gave him 3 USD even when tip is included with my all inclusive stay. He then asked me if I can make it 10 USD. I was completely shocked. I said no. On the second morning "Saturday" 9 am I got a called asking me to move rooms because time sharer purposes. They told me" pack your room is ready." This was horrible since I had a hangover. When I got to my new room it was being clean, not even close to being done. Nothing on the beds so I couldn't lay down or anything. I had to sit for half an hour in the balcony oh and guess what, no water, soda, or beers in this room either. After all that they never clean the second room once I was there for 4 nights. After i made a complaint, they said they will investigate but never called back. When I checked out there was a charge of 9 USD for tip even though tip was included and we tip everytime on top of that at the door. The receptionist had the nerve to ask me if I tip or not even when it's all inclusive including tip. I'm completely dissatisfied with my stay here. I stayed in other resort in cancun before and never had a problem.The staff at restaurants, bar, pool were all perfect. Everything was a joke don't stay here.

We enjoyed our stay and were pleasantly surprised. The all inclusive provided many opportunities for variety by using the other nearby Royal resorts. We will try this one of their resorts on our next visit as well.

Great hotel and amenities. We stayed the week of Thanksgiving and could not have been happier with the stay. We have been down 3 times to the area and the Royal hotels out did the previous locations. To be able to float to other Royal locations and utilize their resturants as well as a few other locations made the inclusive option outstanding. All staff was great.....hit drip a few dollars when you have god service...even if you are all inclusive, they deserve it and show more appreciation than most any server I have come across. My 1 blah: My preference would be to give a guest a few minutes or the first night to settle before the sales pitches come in....but once I explained I would need a few days to figure things out they gave me my space. I do understand they are only doing their jobs.

We spent 3 nights at this property. We were placed on the 1st floor and while there is a view to the ocean, a higher floor is more desirable. In general, they have attentive staff and we were very please with the service. However, their only restaurant (The Veranda, buffet style) is not great, carrying very few choices for lunch. However, the Mexican restaurant next door to the property is excellent. There is a sports bar which is great for drinking and 2 pool side bars. Their only pool is gigantic and good enough. Their beach are is great, but surf in hotels on that stretch of the beach is very rough (problem is not exclusive to this resort). The best deal is their partnership with other Royal hotels and off-property restaurant - that is where you make your money's worth the while. The property in itself is smaller compared to other resorts. Better pillows will make room comfort "Excellent".

We were very pleased with the resort from the time we got there to the time we left. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We had excellent service in every one of our interactions. In fact Pher at Las Veranda restaurant was exceptional and provided us with one on one service. He recommended other restaurants for us to try and we were not disappointed as we had exceptional service as well. The hotel was clean and well maintained with rooms that were clean and nicely decorated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already planning our return trip to the same resort.

It's a beautiful hotel with excellent service, great location and great restaurant options. This place is HUGE! It even has its own market. Some of things of note, however. The rooms are suites and most of them are timeshares (which made most of the residents here.) ...and I know this because I talked to many of the people at the pool bars. What the Royal Sands has been doing is offering all-inclusive deals by dividing up the sweets (typically the lower price will bring you the second have which contains a bathroom, two beds and the smaller balcony.) All this being said, the pool bar and food was excellent, service (except the reception areas) were EXCELLENT and without a drop of attitude (which I received several times at the reception desks. Everything you want to do is a bus ride away or if you like, they will call you a cab (however, these can run you 100-150 pesos at minimum). And the two restaurants I ate at (La Veranda - buffet style and Haceinda Sisal - fine dining) were more than acceptable...a little bland, but great for all-inclusive. The days I was at the beach, there was wind and waves, but it was still beautiful and they kept the beaches very clean. I would highly recommend for a low-key all inclusive.

We really enjoyed our stay at Royal Sands and Spa. Most we like was the restaurant, La Veranda. Food was delicious, staff were friendly. We had no complaints. They treated us queen and king! But we did not like their maid service. They could clean better. There were still sands after they cleaned.

They have a knowledgeable and very response staff. I stay in many hotels in USA and Europe. Royal Sands is equal to many and above most.

Wife and I spent week here. Booked through Expedia. Unbeatable deal. Thought because of the deal we would be getting an inferior room however we were given a fifth floor direct oceanfront suite with a very large veranda. Awesome! Service is very good. Restaurants adequate El Conquistador the best. Tip the servers and you'll never have an empty cup.

It was first vacation to cancun and it was wonderful. All of the staff was (excluding 1 desk clerk & 1 server in restaurant) were all very helpful & very pleasant the week were there. The only problem with all inclusive, many theme nights at restaurant had surcharges attached. Gabriel at char hut was the best server with a great personality & made our vacation even better. We will be back again.
