"Required to change rooms"
We checked in on Friday and during check in we were told we needed to change rooms the next day. I heard another guest next to me being told the same thing. It required me waking my teenagers up, packing, leaving our luggage with the bell boy until they could ready another room. This is insanity. We were told it had to do with the hotel having time […] shares. This needed to be disclosed before I booked because for me this would have been a deal breaker. The beach was nice but if you have small children the surf is a bit strong. Facilities were all nice and clean. The restaurant was nice, food was decent, but wait staff a bit slow but all very friendly. Their friendliness made up for any problem with their speed. The concierges are all trying to sell you time shares. Im on vacation so please let me relax. I would would not recommend this hotel because of the time share issue. Response by The Royal Sands & Spa All Inclusive Dear guest, Thank you for taking time to post about our resort. We always strive to provide the highest satisfaction levels available and we regret didn't achieve this goal with you. As an important part of our company, our goal is to ensure that you are given the highest level of personalized service so your time with us is seamless and memorable. "Nice hotel, close to the beach."
The hotel exceeded our expectations. We requested an ocean view room and had an amazing view. Walked to the ground floor and right out to the beach.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice hotel,"
We had a one bedroom suite which had a king sized bed, a living room area with a couch and two twin sized Murphy beds, kitchenette, balcony overlooking the pool and with an ocean view. We got an all inclusive deal which included all the food you could eat and all the drinks you wanted. There are two restaurants on site along with poolside bars and grills. […] There are also really good restaurants off site at the other Royal resorts that are included in the all inclusive package. The restaurant at the hotel that had breakfast, lunch and dinner, served a buffet and also had a menu that could be ordered from. Service and food was good. The water at the Royel resorts is filtered through their own filtering system so it is safe to drink and they also give you bottled water. The other restaurants we were able to go to as part of our package were Mexican, Italian and Seafood. All were really good! The hotel provided shuttles to these restaurants. There are two pools at the resort and tennis courts and there is a large pool for little ones. The beach and water are gorgeous. Our only complaint was the concierge kind of tricked us into going to their new resort in Playa de Carmen. She got us interested in the resort by telling us about the reef there for snorkeling, and the good shopping in town. She then told us that there was free transportation there, but only if we agreed to listen to a 90 minute talk on their time-shares. The talk ended up taking 3 hours of our time all together. It was a wonderful hotel! The food, staff, shopping, and rooms were magnificent. Take the time to go to the other restaurants- Captain's Cove, El Conquistador- it is a short shuttle ride and well worth it. The staff was amazing- I never pulled out a chair or opened a door. Yes, we did tip everyone but the staff were excellent even before we saw the […] ticket. The view from our balcony was beautiful, and the balcony itself was huge. Only drawback was there was only one elevator so you almost always waited. Would definitely go back to the Royal Sands!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great family vacation, pure relaxation!"
I highly recommend this hotel to everyone, especially those traveling as families. The Royal Sands is a beautiful property and extremely clean. The staff works very hard to maintain the facility and make everyone feel welcomed. The only thing that I would have to mention is the food. They do not have a big variety of choices in food. On site they only […] have one restaurant and the selection is minimal. The buffet seemed to be the same everyday. There are 3 restaurants off site that you would have access to that are ok. But other than that, this place is FABULOUS! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"ALL INCLUSIVE IS USELESS"
Service is horrible. Seems being all inclusive staff has no need to provide good service. Staff was rude and seemed all they were interested in was selling time shares. Had to wait hours to get service at the beach.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Time Share! Not set up for All-Inclusive Yet!"
This is a beautiful "time share" resort. All inclusive option is fairly new since last year only. They are still working out a lot of kinks....such as a married couple having to push two beds together to make one. The rooms are set up for time share suites, so since we are only two people, we got the half with two beds. They didn't fix, just pushed […] beds together for us. Give them a few years understand what a real all inclusive is. Please don't make the same mistake we did. We saw similar reviews to this, but we didn't listen. I even called the resort after I saw the reviews and asked about it being a time share and I was told it wasn't. The resort seemed to bend over backwards for "members" but not for all inclusive "non member" guests. The pool, the beach, the overall scenery is wonderful, though. There is only one restaurant there that is open for bfast, lunch, and dinner. La Veranda was excellent, but there should be more options. The sports bar hold weird hours and seemed mostly used for time share propaganda. There was, also, not enough seating in there. A personal concierge greeted us at our door when we arrived. We thought she was there to help us, but she was there to promoted attending a time share class and conference. This resort would make a great time share! We just weren't prepared for that, and I don't like feeling like someone is trying to pull one over on me. We still had a great time. I would not recommend this resort if you are a married trying to relax. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Royal Sands & Spa All Inclusive Dear Guest, Than, you for taking time to post about our resort. As you point out: our resort is a mixed use resort and does lend itself to a few challenges .There are different room setups in our resort and we're sorry to learn we haven't been able to communicate this opportunely in order to give you the room you wanted and would love to use. Our policy dictates that our host must treat equally both our members and visitors and we'll make sure to enface this policy properly so no one of our customers share this experience. There are several restaurants available for you to choose, but they're not in the premises. However: a shuttle that takes you to all of the other resorts and locations is available on request. The schedules are available at front desk. Finally: personal concierge's leitmotif is to provide assistance at our guests. Department in charge is currently reviewing this information since being pushy or rude is not a behavior we encourage nor consent. We are looking forward to welcoming you again soon during your next vacation at Mexican Caribbean. Warm regards.
"Right on the beach"
Very sandy beach, crystal clear water, waves were very large and powerful and we loved it! The hotel did have a life guard at the beach. We spent most of our time at the beach, but the pools were also very nice. The food was very good. They provided free transportation to thier other "Royal" hotels and approved restaurants.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Decent hotel, bad service"
This hotel has all-inclusive & non all-inclusive guests therefore the all-inclusive guests will not get good service unless you tip well. Sometimes we have to wait 1 1/2 hours to get food at the pool. For the restaurants not in the hotel, you have to make reservation and you can hardly ask for the time you want even though the restaurant is not crowded […] at all. I stayed at Royal Solaris before and their buffet was huge but this hotel buffet is small and foods are just ok. There isn't much going on at night here. Having to move on Saturday is also inconvenient, it make you feel like the day is wasted. I came here with my elder parents and they put my parent in phase 2 building and my room in phase 1 building. When I asked the font desk to move us closer, the clerk just said no without even trying. I will not come back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Wonderful week at Royal Sands"
This place was amazing. The staff was great, the food was delicious-- you need to check out dolphin's cove and hacienda sisal, which are included with the all inclusive package. We were nervous the drinks would be watered down but that's the complete opposite, they are amazing and very fun! The only thing that I was I would've known was about the […] free shuttles to the different restaurants. We heard through others and when we went to use it, it wasn't available at that time. "First Time in Cancun EVER!!!"
When we first arrived at The Royal Sands, we were greeted and checked in by the sweetest guy, Marciello - He was amazing! Very knowledgeable and very helpful - answered all my questions with a smile. We were given a Phase 2 room on the 7th floor (we did not have a suite - didn't need the space). The view from the balcony was breathtaking. I had to keep […] going out to have another look! So pretty it looked photoshopped! It looks as though every room has an amazing view of the pool and ocean, simply incredible! The maid service was very good - Food was very good - especially Captain's Cove! Salmon and coconut shrimp were both amazing. We went there twice. The best thing about the Royal all-inclusive is that you can go eat at any of their hotels - so many food options we could not get to them all in our week's stay (i guess if thats all you wanted to do, you could, but not our plan) There are plenty of choices without surcharges so don't worry about paying extra for any food. Manuel (Manny) the bartender was AMAZING!!! Tip him well - he deserves it - goes above and beyond and is a great guy! We went all up and down the Hotel Zone and spoke to a lot of tourists and i believe that we do not need to look any further for our next years vacation spot. We will definately be back! xoxo Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful View, Disappointing "All Inclusive""
Hotel - The hotel and view are Excellent!! The beach is SO beautiful and has several different shades of blue. A little rough with the waves, but the kids enjoyed that and the waves brought up a lot of seashells. Staff - Excellent! Very friendly, helpful, and work hard! Wristbands - Not horrible, but kind of a pain when hugging your partner or rubbing […] lotion on, can scratch you. Sleeping with it was slightly uncomfortable if you're not used to them. Room Key Cards - Definitely a pain signing for everything....and I mean EVERYTHING. From ordering drinks, food, towels, photographer, gift shop, rental car, and so on. You would think they could somehow combine the wristbands and room key cards somehow. Not have to have both. In the past "all inclusive" resorts that I've been to, it's just that. You don't have to wait for a ticket to sign at the end. You just tip and leave. Not a true all inclusive resort. All Inclusive - This is the most disappointing part of the whole resort. It's not. Other than the Char Hut and room service, La Veranda is the only restaurant on site. Don't get me wrong, La Veranda has a very good buffet and the omelet chef is Fast! They do have off site restaurants that are included in the all inclusive program, but if you don't have a rental car, you're stuck with a cab, bus or their shuttle. Shuttle times are not frequent enough. Surcharge - All the good food is extra and has a surcharge. Again...not "all inclusive" Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The location and staff were good. The beach is very nice and it was not very crowded at all. I was surprised with the level of food. We did not eat the buffet but ordered off the menu each night. Both my wife and I we highly satisfied with lunches and dinners. I did not like the fact that the crowd was a mix of members and all inclusive folks...felt […] like two different classes plus many folks had beer in cans while the poor all inclusives had draft. All in all great stay. Only advice would be to avoid the scams at the airport. Everyone there is out to get your money. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Awesome place, but..."
We loved our stay here, however they have a few flaws that need to be addressed. One-for some strange reason, even though we had the all-inclusive package, we had to give our room key/card every time we got food or drink, and then wait for it to be returned with a zero dollar amount. This should all be taken care of with our all inclusive bracelets. […] Twp-room service took forever, even when just wanting some bottled water. Our wait time varied from 1/2 hour to 2 1/2 hours just for some bottled water for our room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The experience was incredible. Staff was attentive and eager to please. Good selection of food/restaurants. Cleanliness of the room was impeccable. The size of the room was huge, perfect for a family of 4. They had a Kids Club for kids and staff members were attentive and caring towards my kids. Kids thoroughly enjoyed going to kids club and look forward […] to it every day. Very family oriented place. Because of kids club we were able to enjoy the beach without kids or so activities without the kids. I would definitely go back to the Royals Sands again and highly recommend it to other families. "Nice resort, bad service..."
Service was BAD for an "all inclusive" fridge was supposed to be stocked daily with drinks but we had to ask 3 times during our stay to refill with water and soda. The sports bar took longer to get food than ordering from room service (45-50 minutes and only 5 tables to cover between 2 waiters). Room service got our breakfast orders wrong on 2 different […] occasions. Royal Shuttle service between resorts has the worst schedule and we got stranded for 2 hours after dinner one evening (ended up paying for a taxi to get back 1.5 miles). Our beds were very uncomfortable and we even tried sleeping on the couch 1 night to see if it was any better... Because this is a timeshare resort, stays end on Saturday, we had to change rooms on Saturday for 1 additional night. This was a huge inconvenience to pack up for 1 extra night and we had to wait for the new room to be ready after we had to leave our old room... The resort was clean, well maintained, and a great get away. At a 4 star all-inclusive we anticipated having a way better experience... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Awesome resort on the beach."
My family of four had an excellent time at the Royal Sands Spa and All Inclusive. The staff was friendly and always professional. The rooms are awesome and kept very clean. The decor was modern and very nice. The food was very good even the buffets. My only complaint had to do with alcohol. The alcohol content in the drinks could be higher. Also, those […] of us that weren't paying for the drinks (not all the guests are All Inclusive) got smaller cups than those who paid. The pool bars at times were understaffed and getting a drink was like pulling teeth. We finally learned to stay away from the bar and just wait until the waiter came around and took our orders and then just ordered 2 drinks each. We gave good tips and the waiter was there plenty to keep us hydrated ;). Everything else about this resort was great and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Family last harrah"
Wanted to make our last family vacation a memorable one and we thought an all inclusive trip to Mexico would be great. Well it was due to the Royal Sands. I was getting some worries when I started seeing some questionable reviews but once I got there those worries left with my plane. Friendly staff, good not great food and an unbelievable view make […] a vacation that will stay with us for years. From the moment that we arrived and Rafael answered everyone of our questions to the last day that we left and my son ordered his last smoothie we were treated like royalty. "Great place for families"
My husband and I stayed here this past weekend and it was a very nice place. The hotel is HUGE and the rooms are half suites (living room, kitchen, bedroom, walk in closet) and half just rooms with beds in them like your traditional hotel with options for all inclusive or pay as you go. The hotel staff were so friendly and accommodating which made the […] stay really enjoyable. Some of the bar staff at the pools were kind of rude at times. It seemed like if they knew you did the all inclusive deal they would sort of ignore you (maybe because they assumed we would not tip?). There are 3 pool side bar/kitchens for you to eat at as well as a bar inside the main hotel and another main restaurant on that side as well. The other restaurants that are included in the all inclusive package you either have to walk to (in front of the hotel) or you would have to take a shuttle to which to me was a super inconvenience because if you finished eating early, you'd have to sit around and wait for the shuttle to come back to take you back (off site restaurants are at least 3 miles away). El Conquistador is an off site restaurant which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND (included in all inclusive). The service and food there is phenomenal. The hotel is dead after 9pm, no one stays out to drink at the sports bar or party. They also require your room key whenever you order food/drinks (all inclusive or not) which was a hassle at times. I feel like if you are all inclusive, they should not need your card. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"our 5 night stay at the Royal Sands & Spa"
This was our 1st trip to Cancun and it was exactly as I pictured it. the water is so crystal clear & the clean white sand was comfortable to walk on. We loved the suite we stayed in that overlooked the beautiful pool & the ocean. The first night we had lobster tail, and it only got better from there. The hotel buses u to their other resorts to dine […] in other restaurants. We celebrated our 54th Wedding anniversary at the El Conquistador Rest. at the Sands Islander. They made our cesar salad right at the table & also the banana's foster, what a treat. The food was excellent. The hotel caters to families, with something to do for everyone. We decided to just enjoy where we were, settle down in a lounger on the beach, relax and read. We would like to take a couple excursions next time to see the dolphins and the temples. Also, we would like to bring our kids and grandkids with us next year if possible. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
First i didnt realize it was a time share when i booked it for our entire family. It took 45 plus minutes to check in. Just a hassle. "Okay for the price"
Good location, right in the middle of the hotel zone. Easy to catch the bus right out front. Not sure why, but when we were dropped off by our shuttle, we were told that we wouldn't be checking into the main lobby but instead, the shuttle drove around to the side to a much smaller lobby and dropped us off there to check in. Not sure if it's because […] we aren't time share owners or were on an all-inclusive plan but it kinda made us feel like second class. On our first day, about an hour after check-in, a house keeper knocked on the door and asked if our room was clean or if we wanted our room cleaned (I couldn't really understand her) but I told her we just checked in so I had hoped it was clean...it looked clean anyways. Then, later that afternoon after being at the pool for a few hours we returned to our room and saw a note left by one of the "concierege" saying we needed to pick up our "gift". We knew it was a timeshare thing and kinda made me uncomfortable that someone had been in our room. Then, the next afternoon, my husband and I were having a "romantic" moment when we heard a knock on the door, my husband yelled, "Just a minute" but before we knew it, one of the hotel's employees is walking in our room. My poor husband had to jump out of bed...naked...and tell her to leave. Not sure who she was or what she wanted. It became quite annoying having all those interruptions and people just walking into our room. I made sure after that to keep our valuables locked up Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful Hotel, Friendly Staff, Incredible View"
Staying at the Royal Sands was an amazing experience. The hotel is gorgeous, well-maintained, and spotless. Every member of the staff you meet goes above and beyond to make your stay wonderful. We are not owners, so we just rented the room for the week and added the all-inclusive package. It was so worth it! We did not experience any rudeness because […] of our all-inclusive status (versus being an owner) that some other reviewers alluded to. Also, giving your room key at meals and signing the $0 receipt is super easy and not a hassle at all...how else will they track premium items? Plus, it gives you an opportunity to tip if you don't have cash. We ate daily at the Veranda, and visited Captain's Cove and Hacienca Sisal as well for dinner. All the restaurants we went to were clean and had a variety of delicious options, awesome drinks, and incredible staff. We also visited the pool bar/Char Hut daily which was SO fun and has a gorgeous view. Each place we dined at had some premium items but the majority (90%+) of the menu was included in the all-inclusive deal. We in no way felt limited with the all-inclusive deal and WHEN we come back we will absolutely choose that option again. This resort is incredible and we will be back!! "Overall great stay, but not a 4.5 star resort"
Overall it was a great stay. Got a suite with full ocean view and kitchen. It was close to the airport, malls, beautiful beach front and nightlife. The hacienda reasturant was good to eat at and the other place was hit or miss. The poolside bars were great. There was one that cooked food in front of the people at the swim up bar. Room service was fast […] but the food was just ok. Concierge kept calling at the crack of dawn and by the time I would pick up they had hung up... So needless to say, we didn't use them. But that is ok. The spa was pretty good but pricey. Got a decent massage. Be sure to bring bathing suit to go into the jacuzzi - Can't be naked in the jacuzzi room. If you do tip massager, be sure to tip in bin outside of the locker room. I accidentally tipped the attendant $20! The resort is some kind of timeshare community. So on Saturday we had to change rooms. No big deal, they sent someone up to move your stuff. However, because its a timeshare community I think that is why the ratings are so high. It was nice dont get me wrong but it was a timeshare/hotel. That is why there is a kitchen, grocery store etc. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
