Cofresi Palm Beach & Spa Resort All Inclusive - Puerto Plata

Just came back from a 4 night stay at the cofresi hotel. The staff were friendly, the food was ok. It was a little disappointing that we had to walk so much throughout the hotel ( it's huge) and the shuttle bus comes around every 20 minutes or so. There are not hot tubs which was annoying . Too many stairs to get to anywhere in the hotel. The rooms seemed rundown. There were about 10 things wrong with my room. I work the front desk with a major chain and i know what hotel standards should be. Not enough towels in rooms. The check in process was dreadful! It took 45 min to check in.....very disorganized. If you're not a VIP you get NOTHING! […] Only VIP's can use the golf carts to get around and are able to dine at the other restaurants. The buffet food was awful and crowded. The only nice thing i can say is that the pools were very nice and my kids enjoyed them. Where do I start??? First we do an annually family trip every year. The trip usually consist of 35 people including children. This by far was the worst resort we have ever been to. Not worth it. I have stayed at several hotels in the area, including Punta Cana, and this one was one of the worst. The food selection was not good. The buffet was overcrowded. My husband and I just got back from this dreadful stay at the Cofresi palm beach & spa resort our stay was from 5/12-5/18 this was the worst vacation ever. Pick up from the airport went well booking thru Expedia we had no problems at the airport when we arrived at the hotel our room was not ready. Those are not the first words you want to hear after […] flying for 4 hours and to land when the weather is 100 and humid you really want to get into your room as fast as possible to was up change and walk around the resort, but no such luch we ended up having to wait 5 hours for our room no matter how nice I was to the front desk check in it got us nothing we sat in the lobby sweating and very hot never once was we offered a cold drink or anything at all for the incovince. Once we got into our room we just sleep. The hotel was not very helpful in informing us about the details of the resort and what was included in our all inclusive deal. Only after we met with the Expedia representative the next morning were our questions answered. Still, staff was not very helpful and it felt too often that they were annoyed with our questions or complaints (our bathroom ceiling […] was leaking the first night and the tv didn't work...we had to demand a new room). Random staff was around the beach area or bars at night to encourage involvement in activities and it was quite bothersome to be approached to be told what we should be doing on our vacation--it would work much better if they just laid low and we could find them if we were interested. At one point we took part in "bowling" that was really just rolling a volleyball into 4 water bottles. Reservations for restaurants was encouraged, and it was nice to arrive and have 3 reservations already made. Still, the themed restaurants (e.g. Mexican, Asian, Indian, etc) seemed to really the same as the buffet food with different sauce and arranged on a menu Ina different way. We were not pleased with the food or alcohol- enough to make me doubt wanting to do an all inclusive deal again. We got a great deal on our all-inclusive package - which even included alcohol. Upon our arrival we were given our own personal concierge, who was supposed to see to our every need and proposed meeting the next morning to give us a “tour” of the property. Of course the “tour” was really to ultimately deliver you to the sales office where they try to […] sell you a time-share type of membership. Since we were only staying one night and promised we had no intention of coming back, we were able to quickly cancel the sales pitch. The room itself was fair. When we arrived, the bathroom and shower was all wet, as if someone had just showered, but I assumed (hoped) they just didn’t dry it. They gave us no map of the huge property and there was nothing in the room, but luckily you couldn’t walk very far before someone approached you in a golf cart and offered you a ride. The staff didn’t really seem very professional, and although friendly, were not very helpful. The (free) food was pretty good. Like I said, it was a great deal, and if you don’t mind the sales pitch, or can talk your way out of it, you’ll probably enjoy your stay, especially if you just want to hang around the pool and have kids to entertain. Ridiculous check-in policy where you cannot give your confirmation number or name or even id. You have to print a hard copy of the confirmation. I was given a hard time over this and did not get my room until 3 hours later. I'm standing there with a sick child and they are being flippant about the whole thing, meanwhile they've been paid for our 5 rooms […] but still were unwilling to check us in. Restaurants are bland buffets and to get any variety you have to belong to their VIP program. That's one thing they don't seem to be short of is people constantly hounding you to take a tour and invest. By the way if you have trouble with stairs this place is definitely not for you just getting anywhere you have to go through a labyrinth of steps or wait for a golf cart or van for a ride. Watch out for the bottled water! we figured it out but that was the one thing we all had steadily been drinking and we all got sick. House doctor was great, paid $500 directly + called ambulance for my child. Clinic gave him an IV and me a $2,000 enema (yes that was the price for 12 hours of service). If you're not convinced yet about choosing a different place let me stress that the beach is the pits (not much of a beach) and right by the edge of the property is a run-off from the sewer. They nickle and dime you for everything, Internet service is free in the lobby only. Ocean World is a complete rip-off, it takes you a good 1/2 hour to sign up, 45 minutes at the park to verify that you paid, etc. Read more

We left for the Cofresi, so excited for a relaxing few days in the sun. What we got was a staff that consistently harassed us to become VIP members, and were otherwise completely unhelpful, violent illness from the food/drink, and a workout of stairs to get everywhere we went. Going to the Cofresi was more work than a stressful day in the office and […] I would never become a VIP member of the hotel because I would constantly concerned that they would treat me terribly unless I was going to buy something else.. For the first 2 days we couldn't even get towels nor find anyone to try to help us understand the process. They boast online about this 15+ restaurants, but they don't tell you that you have to fight your way into them, either taking a VIP tour (5 hours they kept some on the tour) just so someone will be kind enough to help us get reservations, otherwise you have to wait hours in line to get them. Quite frankly, the last day we preferred to starve rather than east in any of the buffet's anyway, because we were sick as dogs and so was everyone else in the resort. I think the most important thing to consider, if not my opinion, is there was not a sole we encountered (other than 18 year old spring breakers) that were happy to be there. No one had nice things to say, but did about several other places in Puerto Plata or Punta Cana. We now know why this was such a deal. Stay away from Cofresi, it's worth the extra money. Read more

My husband & i were very nervous going here for our honeymoon because of all the negative reviews & thank god we were pleasantly surprised to find that this was the perfect place for our 1st vacation as husband & wife! The lobby was all i imagined...wide open with white sheets hanging down flowing in the wind...straw top huts & clean as can be!!! Our rooms were not ready yet since we took an early flight, not a problem...to the bar we went for my 1st of many banana mamamas!!!! Our rooms were ready in about 2 hours. We took a van over to our room to help us with luggage. We stayed in building 41 which from what i hear is brand new. It was exacly like it was pictured!! Clean, perfect & very comfortable. The service was impecable. We would take 2 sips from our glasses of water & they right there filling it to the top again. I have never been to a resort before where you would actually have to search for something to eat that would taste good.
