I was comfortable. The hotel labeled all food with the main antigens or allergens. On their morning buffet I could eat: boiled eggs, salad, juices, smoked fish, sometimes hashbrowns. Japan is a difficult country to be Gluten -Free in. The bathroom was beyond terrific. If you are in Kyoto for sightseeing this is not the hotel for you and for the price you would be better to find something closer to central Kyoto - it is better for those that are locals or are there for business or conference. Everything at this hotel is overpriced for what you get....for example, it is 25,000 yen for a very limited and poor tasting […] breakfast buffet, 900 yen for juice or coffee. Ten thousand yen per day for (slow) internet. They have you captured here with no place else to go for food and they know it. Very stained carpeting throughout the hallways - with an overall very dated feeling to the whole place. I've stayed here before for conferences and it's very convenient, but this time was just for sightseeing. It's just outside the city, so it's nice and quiet, but close to the Karasuma line subway which is a 20 ride from Kyoto station and a 6 minute ride to the Kitaoji bus terminal. There is also a bus terminal outside the other subway exit for buses […] that go outside the city to places like Mt Hie or the temples in Ohara. The hotel restaurants can be a little expensive, so a package with breakfast included is a great deal, but the continental breakfast buffet is a reasonable price if you eat a lot. They also have vending machines and Japanese snacks in the gift shop. The staff were also very helpful with sightseeing advice and there is a free service in the morning to send your bags to Kyoto station so you can do some more sightseeing before catching the train back to Tokyo or the airport and then pick your bags up in the station before 6:00 PM. The hotel is located in the north-east section of Kyoto - a beautiful setting with lots of greens in the area and mountains as a backdrop. It is walking distance (5 min) to the Kyoto International Conference Center (a gorgeous venue for meetings) and also close to a subway station, from which you can take a 20 min ride to go to center Kyoto (Gion conner […] etc). Tranquil. In the foothills of Kyoto City. This hotel is not in a Kyoto centralized location. It takes 20 minutes from Kyoto Station to Kokusai Kaikan Station, and then approximately a 5 to 7 minute walk from the Kokusai Kaikan station to the hotel entrance. The surroundings are beautiful. Fall views are breathtaking.

As , from the limousine bus stop, cross the street, enter the KCS building, to Metro level, take Metro Kokusaikaikan direction (north), to final station, exit 4 to GPH , single ticket Y200. The hotel was right on the subline line, however it was the last stop. It wasn't bad, just be prepared. We didn't stay in the hotel other than to sleep, pretty much used public transportation to travel down to Nara and throughout Kyoto. There was no pool and a minimal charge for internet. BUT! the staff was very courteous, as almost all Japanese were, and it was clean and the rooms were clean, with all the soaps/shampoos/etc. Nice stay for the price, didn't eat in the hotel, the bfast buffet was too much. The subway station is just about 50m from the Hotel entrance, the train ride to the center/train station only takes 10-15 min. and is a lot cheaper than a taxi. The Grand Prince Kyoto had a very luxurious feel to it, and our room was superb - so spacious and the beds were very comfortable. It is about 20mins on the train from Downtown Kyoto, with the train station being across the road, plus if you don't feel like the trip into town there are some lovely walks and shrines nearby. We ate in both of the restaurants […] and have to say that they were shockingly highly priced - we paid approx £250 for the two of us to eat in the Chinese restaurant and I think the cheapest menu in the French restaurant was £70 a head - that said, the quality was excellent and the service like a 5 star restaurant, plus if you can't afford the prices there are restaurants nearby and the last train back from the city centre is late enough you could dine there instead. We drank in the bar most nights too, which has a lovely relaxed feel too it - drinks are a little pricey but I have to say the service and quality was again excellent.. There is a money changer in the conference centre nearby. The room would be better off with a better selection of tea and coffee. Also an ironing board and iron would have made it more convenient. Getting to the hotel was easy - it is a short walk from the last stop on the Karasuma subway line, exit 4-2. That is good and bad - it is the last stop so you cant make a mistake, but it is about 20 minutes from Kyoto, a bit remote for our liking . The trains are great - regular, frequent and on time. Buy the daily subway pass for 600 yen. Staff were […] efficient and courteous. There were three of us. The room was clean, spacious and well appointed. The toilet seat was always warm, which make the Kyoto Protocol-ers a bit annoyed, but they would have been happy with the old CRT TV. As westerners, we wanted to be able to make a cup of coffee , but we noted that we had to pay for the coffee and Japanese tea sachets provided, which seemed a tad miserly, for such a Grand Hotel. And the hot water jug, which seemed to double as a noodle cooker, only had Japanese instructions and there was no crockery except water glasses. Bring your own milk (creamer) and sugar as well. The cafe in the hotel took last orders at 8.30 but were not too enthusiastic when we rocked up at 8.20 soon after arrival on our first night and the waitress didn't suggest any alternatives and seemed relieved when we walked away. Make sure you get there well before closing time and maybe the experience would be a bit different. We ate in the hotel's Chinese restaurant and they took a very long time to seat us, even though hardly anyone was present. (Probably working out whether they wanted our business, because they closed soon after). The meal was average by Japanese hotel/restaurant standards we had experienced. Because there was not a lot on offer in the nearby village, we ate in Kyoto after the first night at the hotel's restaurant. But even in Kyoto dont leave eating too late.
