White Inn - Fredonia

Went to an open house at Fredonia College. This was the nearest motel. It is more off a bed and breakfast style, with a bathroom in the room. It is a three floor Inn, with about 24 total rooms. The only other motel near by received bad reviews, so I stayed here. The room was clean, cable TV and free Internet. The staff was very nice. The still have […] the old style windows, which made the room cold. The heat was one of those AC/heater units, and made it hard to keep the room at a comfortable temperature. Beautiful place. Nice location. Bar area very comfortable, relaxing and service exceptional. The room left something else to desire. There seemed to be an odor trying to be masked with that cheap bathroom deodorizer found in thruway restrooms. Everything was clean, outdated by about 20 years which isn't an issue with me. The bed was somewhat comical. […] It had the worst slant imaginal and was definitely a bed with coils from maybe the 70's. Understandingly....I did not sleep much. Between the bed and the couple next store, it was an interesting night. I may give them another try but will make sure we are in a different room. I was visiting Fredonia as a guest lecturer at SUNY/Fredonia, and stayed only one night. The staff was very friendly. When I approached my room, which was on the 2nd floor at the end, I smelled something strange. Once in the room, I was certain that it was a dead animal somewhere in the room or between the walls. I called the front desk, and they came […] to check it out. They were horrified and moved me to a different room immediately. The strang thing was that someone from the housekeeping staff said that she had been smelling the smell for several days. If that was the case, I was surprised that something hadn't been done about the situation sooner. Anyway, I was comfortable in the new room. Lighting by the bed was not good, so I had to remove the lampshade from the lamp in order to have enough light to read by. The hotel is generally old and could use a renovation. The sink faucets have lime deposits that have not been attended to for quite some time. BUT the dinner I had in the restaurant on the first floor was quite good. And again the staff was very courteous and friendly. I would stay there again were I there on business. The hotel choices in the area had lower ratings, so I chose this one, which is supposed to be the best in the area, according to someone who lived in Fredonia several years. Read more

It is conveniently located in downtown Fredonia. The hotel is very old and it is not well kept. Bed was squeaky and uncomfortable. Considering the condition of the hotel , it is well over priced. I had breakfast at the hotel on Sunday morning. 9 tables and they were all occupied. 1 person serving all 9 tables. 60+ minutes for a simple breakfast.

If you must stay in a hotel that has everything recently painted and up-to-date, then this is not the hotel for you. However, if you appreciate history, character and comfort then the White Inn has all that plus a friendly appreciative staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight in room 323. We arrived in the evening while dinner was being served outside to several couples and inside to a good crowd. Turns out the food and beverage is separately owned and operated from the sleeping facilities. We were given a free upgrade in terms of our room and found it delightful. Pleasant staff that evening. We sat down to a dinner menu with much variety […] in a pleasant tavern surrounding. No traffic noise in our room and a nice hot shower capped off our stay. Restaurant food and service was great. Hotel management,service, and room condition left a lot to be desired. For a B&B (with no free breakfast or coffee) and Inn there was no warmth, friendliness, responsiveness, hominess, or professionalism. It was difficult to find an attendant. It seemed very impersonal. I'm not sure if it was because we don't "fit their mold" of what their guests are supposed to look like but that was how it felt. I hate staying at hotels! I never feel like I get a good night's sleep. We travel with our 2 long-haired dachshunds, one is elderly and has trouble walking. The White Inn in Fredonia is absolutely fabulous! Not only is this old hotel built well and to our experience has virtually soundproof rooms! But the rooms are so cozy and comfortable! Lovely furniture ( we were in the Wicker Room), excellent staff, and terrific cuisine at the Squires Restaurant located in the hotel and outstanding front porch for sitting and /or dining! There were no other nearby restaurants within walking distance so we felt quite fortunate the food and service was so good. There are lovely parks nearby for dog walks and the location is close to family and Liberty Winery, our reason for visiting the Fredonia area from New York City on our way to visit family in Missouri. The hotel was very nice in a good area of the town. The restaurant cuisine was very tasty and a nice selection of meals. You could dine inside in one of the two dining rooms or outside on a limited number of outdoors tables. Our room was very nice and the beds were a bit more comfortable than most other hotels we have visited. (although nothing compares […] to our Sleep Number bed at home) The inn is a very old building and it shows, mostly on the outside of the building as the sides and rear have a bit of peeling paint on the older bricks. The new owners are renovating the inn in an ongoing effort and are doing a very nice job from what we could tell. The age of the building does add to the charm and enjoyment we experienced during our stay there. There was ample parking when we arrived even though the dining room / lounge was very busy.
