Had an upgraded room with an ocean view that I paid an extra $40 a night for and was well worth it. The standard room I had for the following two nights was extremely small and cramped. Hotel was overpriced on everything. C'mon do you have to charge guests $3.50 for an 8 ounce bottle of water at the beach or $5.50 for a can of domestic beer. I had a standard room booked when i arrived i was told we had been " upgraded' to a courtyard room. If that was an upgrade i would hate to have seen the size of the room i should have gotten. The room was clean but extremely small. Our balcony with our "courtyard view" had a palm tree directly in front of it so you could barely see the courtyard. One […] elevator was broken for most of our stay. The only things included in the daily resort fee on the beach were the use of cabana, slide, paddle boats and pool towels i was told. So you had to pay extra for the inflatables in the water, if you wanted a front row cabana or any other water sports activities. You had to walk down to the Island grand for use of everything except the cabana. Sunday night prior to memorial day there was a firework show on the beach which was nice and unexpected extra, however, they advertised inflateables and carnival games as well. Once we arrived after promising our children they could participate only to find out that an unlimited armband for those was an additional $20.00. The pool area was packed that evening and the ice cream parlor and pizza hut closed up at 10pm. Read more

Very disappointed. Bathroom wasn't clean and one of the bed sheets was full of sand. Thought there would be access to cabana but were all booked up during our stay. Our Gulf front pool faced the kiddie pool and was very noisy. Full size beds were uncomfortable and were so close that it was hard to walk between them. We were at a Business convention. This would be a good convention site when you bring your family along or a family vacation. On the beach, lots of activities for families, but we did not get involved with that. It was cold and rained, but that is not the hotels fault. Very spread out, for the good or the bad of that. We stayed in a newly renovated […] suite. Very functional with a kitchenette. Lots of granite. Good use of space. 2 LCD Tv's one in living room and one in bedroom. Only complaint for management. The bathroom had a beautiful extra large shower, but the sink was small and there was ZERO space to put anything even a tooth brush. So all of our stuff ended up in the kitchen on the microwave. Studying this space issue for 5 days. Here is the inexpensive solution. One 6 inch wide x 3 or 4 ft long glass shelf under the large mirror. Plus one etage style whilte shelving unit that would start just above the sink on the right and go almost to the cieling. You could have 4 or 5 8x5" shelves for all the bathroom items one needs during a trip with out making a trip to your suitcase each time. how is a woman or a man to get dressed and ready? And I'm low maintenance. LOL. Room 2501 in case they are not all the same. Perhaps this was a handicap room. But all the more so, to make it work for everyone. Read more

I was there for a conference that was held in there meeting rooms, which were right on site and very convenient. The only issue that I had was that we did have wifi in the hotel room, but in the meeting room which was less then 100 yards away from the lobby did not have wifi. If we wanted wifi in the meeting room, we had to pay! Couldn't quite figure […] that one out. Overall it was a very good experience. Hotel staff was excellent. Rooms were very comfortable. A little less expensive than the Tradewinds Grand a couple hundred yards south down the beach, however, though you have access to all their amenities, they do offer a lot on that site. I am unsure if I would stay here again. A bit on the expensive side for what we got. It IS pet friendly, although I was told it was not. If I got a good deal I would maybe stay again, but I will be trying other hotels if staying in the area again.

Registration was a nightmare. We arrived at 3:40 for checkin. Upon arrival we asked for an upgrade for a room with a view of the water. Therefore, we did not get into our room until 5:30. Then the key cards would not unlock our door. Jared the bell hop used his card to get us into our room. Then had to make 2 trips down to the front desk to get cards […] that did work. He was great and did a wonderful job. Our bed was not the best.. The mattress dumped to the middle. We had requested a king or queen and none were available The restaurant was really good with the exception of the pancakes...not good. We thought the price was too expensive for what we got. We were going to stay closer to Clearwater but having found many hotels saying they are on the beach but aren't quite, we were happy to find this resort on the beach, literally. We got a great deal and for the 25 dollar resort fee per day, the cabana, towels and some activities for our daughter at the neighboring resort were included (but we didn't […] have enough time for those). Our room faced the garage and entrance out front but we didn't have trouble with noise like I expected upon entering. Central A/C worked great! My only beef was that they picked up the room but didn't take out the trash. Also, Subway almost directly across the street and 7eleven not much further for a quick bite within walking distance. This was our first time staying at the Tradewinds Sandpiper. We spent 7 nights there and we had a wonderful time. The room was very clean and there was plenty of space for the four of us. We have two twelve year old girls and they had a great time too. There aren't any on-site amenities for kids,except for the pool, however just two doors down at the […] Tradewinds Island Grand, there was things to do every day, which you can participate in. Great adult only pool in addition to kid areas. Beautiful grounds, lobby, and waterfront. Cabanas and hammocks on the beach. Convenient walk to many restaurants. Nice up to date decor. Our room needed serious dusting of the bathroom baseboards, and there was only one pillow choice, high loft foam, which was not good for my neck.

Even during Tropical Storm Debby 2012, The Sandpiper in St Pete Beach was a very pleasant place to spend a short vacation. James at the front desk was very friendly and helpful when changing a small mixup that put us in the wrong building, Tradewinds, not Sandpiper like I wanted. Room service left our room open after leaving. When we complained we were told by the front desk that they would "inform housekeeping". Housekeeping did some of the dishes but left a dirty pan. They also broke a glass and left broken shards on the counter, floor and sink. The next day they didn't leave us clean towels and did not dump the trash.
