They had a huge convention and it was not pleasant for those of us that were there on vacation. There should be a way to advise travelers before they book. I would not have stayed there. Way too busy!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by TradeWinds Island Grand Please accept my apology for the inconvenience of our group guest. Apparently you were here the second week of May, but I'm unaware of the specific details of your concerns. The group was very larger but had mostly all day meetings which actually ran into the early evening as well. We closely monitor all reported security incidents of noise and other disturbances and am happy to say it has been extremely minor. Therefore, I assume that some of the courtyard and the main section of the lobby was set up for the group registration and other reader boards throughout the property which were the primary inconvenience. Also, this was a first time booking of this group which went down to the wire before closing the deal and unfortunately didn't allow us enough time to notify many guest who had already made their reservations. Thank you.
One bedroom suites are tiny! Also, pools and grounds were packed with people and very loud at night!Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by TradeWinds Island Grand As the Director of Guest Satisfaction please accept my apology for failing to meet your expectations regarding the size of your suite. We have several different types and sizes, hopefully next time a larger type will be available. Yes, we are thankful for the high occupancy that we have had during Spring Break & Easter. This combined with the excellent weather has created the ultimate rush for the pools! Thank you.
"Great hotel !"
Nice place! I live in the area & have been to many of the surrounding resorts. This was my first stay at the Tradewinds. Very impressed. Lots of restaurants, great included beach cabana. We didn’t have kids with us so we didn’t use the slides or other activities that are included… Although I think it would have been a kids paradise. There are lots of […] awesome beach bars within walking distance. We had a gulf front 1 bedroom suite. Very nice, clean, and spacious. Only cons that I can think of were the time it took to check in - long line, long process, then they send you to a time share desk…really?? And I did think the resort (price paid for the room) was too pricey $$. The restaurants & parking charges I think were fair. I would stay here again if I could get a good deal :) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The Best Family Vacation Ever-(REALLY!)"
The four of us ,myself,husband,2kids (14-17) had the greatest time last week at the Tradewinds! The beaches were pristine, cabanas set and ready every morning, staff inside and out soooo friendly and ready to help. I work at a Country Club here in Michigan and I know customer service and how hard it can be, all were at there top of there game! Tons […] of things to do, rooms spotless everyday ( get the kitchenette, helps with hungry teens and husbands). Dolphin was amazing, lots of dolphins right next to us, sting rays and manatees! My son hurt his foot and a security man named Braint was soooo helpful get medical supplies and making sure all was well and that we were comfortable with how his foot recovered.- he was awesome- way to go the extra mile! If you are looking for a great hotel this IS it I promise. We would love to go back. Wolfepack. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect family hotel"
Tons of activities for families. Multiple pools & a fantastic beach. Giant waterslide on the beach was a blast. With pools, beach, activities and on-site dining & drinks, we literally never left the resort during our stay. Highly recommend this hotel for families. The only minor drawback is that the standard room (and particularly the bathroom) is a […] bit dated. This was a minor concern for us, however, since we spent very little waking hours in the room itself. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We loved our vacation at the Tradewinds. There is so much to do for the kids and St. Pete Beach is beautiful. We had the basic, standard room, so the room itself was nothing great. But we did not plan to spend much time in the room anyways, so it was fine.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Large resort on beach."
The hotel gives a great impression when you enter the lobby. Seems to have been renovated. Rooms have been updated but still seemed a little tight. The rest of the hotel needs super updating. There a many restaurants on the premises but everything seemed very pricy. Beef o bradys more affordable but just ok. A lot of kids at this resort, but also heard […] that there was not a lot of activities for them. I do go to West coast alot and will not stay there again. I prefer larger accomodations like renting a condo. Wound up being a very expensive vacation...not worth it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice family hotel."
Nice hotel. You do not need to leave the resort. Everything is there. Very friendly staff and well run hotel. Only complaint was that when I booked through Expedia, the booking only recorded two people ( I typed in two kids as well as two adults very clearly and requested twin beds which was confirmed) and upon arrival at the hotel a king bed room was […] reserved (as the hotel had 2 guests and not 4 from the Expedia booking). We needed a twin room and had to upgrade at an extra $50.00 / night. Somebody dropped the ball and as usual, the customer took the hit. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location the beach..wonderful staff"
Overall it was very nice. We got to our tropical room, which was on the side of the hotel, so when we looked one way we saw the gulf and the other was the pool garden area..only problem was straight in front of us was the roof of the adjacent building, with the air condition units and seagulls...so we asked for a gulf view room, they accommodated us […] but at a cost..but it was worth it. Restaurants were excellent..service was ok..nice but slow.. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We had a great time and used ALL of the water facilities. Great to have so many activities on site. Just wish the rooms were slightly bigger and that they had some racks or clothes lines in the room to dry all those towels and bathing suits.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel and would visit again and recommend."
We had a nice stay over Easter break. Nothing was too crowded and beach beautiful. Hotel could use some updating here and there but overall very nice. Cabana reservation website was down for several days which was inconvenient. Didnt get the room bed request I had reserved but hotel was accomodating and gave us a roll away for second bed.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by TradeWinds Island Grand Thank you for your comments. I apologize for the inconvenience of the cabana website being down. We had to return to our old way of first come first serve, but the site has since been corrected. Our bedding is request only and is based on the number of guest in the reservation. I'm glad that we were able to accommodate you with a roll-away. Thank you.
"On the Awesome Beach!"
We stayed 4-nights from 4/17/2014-4/21/2014... no kids, but we were with family for Easter weekend. Great hotel for the kids... lots of activities. The resort has several buildings and a handful of pools - so there is lots to do. The fitness center is lacking... 12 or so Nautalis type machines, 4 treadmills, 3 elliptical machines, 2 stationary bikes […] and some limited free weights and a universal machine. Each day had a line waiting for treadmills and elliptical machines. Several dining choices on site. Rooms were nice, clean and had a great shower.... easy to control the room temp with the thermostat. Rooms were quiet to. Overall - the hotel was as advertised, however, without my Sister and her 5 kids - we as two adults would likely not stay at the resort again due to cost. The beach is beautiful - but the weather was a little off... so we mostly just walked along it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We had a good experience at the TradeWinds Island Grand. This hotel is great for families offering many activities for children. The added amenities, i.e. cabanas, waterslide, and pools were great. We ate at two of the restaurants while there and had good service and food. We would return to this hotel and recommend it to our friends.Genuine Expedia guest review

fun for the kids...good restaurants around...great brunch at Palm CourtGenuine Expedia guest review
We had a very good stay. It's a family resort therefore is not very quiet but is enjoyable. The staff is very pleasant , courteous and attentive. The hotel is right on the beach. The pools are clean and if you want to have a quiet time, they have an adult pool and is not crowded at all. All the grills and restaurants had great food.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Fabulous spring break trip with teens"
Both my son and daughter, as well as myself, had a WONDERFUL week at the TradeWinds. Beautiful resort with SO many activities for every age and interest. Couldn't have been a more perfect trip!Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was great. The room was very clean, and we had a gulf side room with a balcony which we enjoyed. Our mattress was too soft, but after we called the front desk, the mattress was changed out with a new one within 30 minutes. (Remember that housekeeping does not lay down on your bed to test it out - you are the real test, and if you don't ask, […] you don't receive.) The bathroom was a bit small, but we made it work. The shower head is also low, but again - we made it work. I'm sure in upcoming renovations the showerhead height could be raised. We mostly enjoyed the outside amenities - the beach (miles to walk on beautiful white sand), adult pools, chaise lounges, cabanas, etc. The food in all the on-site restaurants was great. The Palm Court was pricey, but well worth it for the service, food and atmosphere. I loved that there was a separate pool for kids. I don't hate kids, it's just that they tend to be much more active. "Don't get "pet friendly" rooms unless have dog."
Resort is clean and well run. Lovely staff, fabulous beach. Great dolphin boat trip. Kids everywhere having great fun. But Expedia put us in one of the few "pet friendly" rooms without telling us. And the hotel was fully booked, so no chance of changing rooms. Great for the folks with dogs, because you are trading off view/location/ventilation for […] keeping fido nearby. But what if we were allergic to dogs? The dog rooms are on a dark corner of the property, on ground floor, with no opening windows. None of our clothes or swimsuits ever dried, and the room smelled like wet dog. We left the room door propped open to get some fresh air, and used the ironing board to lay out wet stuff. The "dog rooms" desperately need a retractable clothes line, and a front window that opens to get some air (like the "normal" rooms have screened doors). We ran the super-loud bathroom fan overnight to 1) dry the room out and 2) block out noise from neighbors. p.s. On-site Chinese and/or Pasta would be great. There's only so much "fried americana" food that a person can take before craving chinese or pasta. p.p.s. I agree that you should use all that empty conference space to provide kids activities on wind-storm days like we had this week. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Exceeded our expectations in every way!"
The place was beautiful! The staff truly was pleasant and accommodating! Large cups of ice water were given out upon request and with a smile! The resort was busy but because the resort covers so much property, we never felt people crowding us. More amenities than we could take advantage of in 5 days!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Nice beach and enjoyed having the cabanas."
We enjoyed the many activities available to us. We booked through an outside travel company and I was disappointed we had to pay $35 per person for wrist bands to have access to all the hotel amenities. I thought the fee was high considering we paid higher fees for parasailing, stand-up paddle board, wave runner, etc. vs. going to an outside hotel business. […] I would also like it if there was an all inclusive for meals. We would have ate more at the hotel than to go outside. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by TradeWinds Island Grand I'm sorry that you felt disappointed regarding the Resort Amenity Fee. We are working harder to make sure this is communicated better when making the reservation, so as not to have any hidden surprises. It does cover several items but we are yet to be all inclusive as many guest have wished. Thank you for the 5 star rating and we hope to see you again!
the weather is perfect and you've got money to burn the out of pocket money for food for family of 3 for 5 days was well over 1000 and that's eating at outside eateries as often as once a day..i found the prices to be quite high..especially the salads, drinks and deli. the food was good but a couple burgers, kids meal and drinks at beef o bradys was […] $97..we will go somewhere else next time that is all inclusive.with what we paid we could have booked one week stay at all inclusive in Caribbean for less the view is gorgeous and the beach is stunning. the problem with this place is it bills itself as family resort with tons to do..but when the wind picks up everything gets shut down...no slide, no bungee, no dolphin cruise, no scheduled campfire...its kind of frustrating..i get the safety concerns but a "resort" should have activities scheduled no matter what..at least one option a night...i mean the last 2 nights there was nothing, i mean nothing, to do..there were empty conference rooms everywhere...not sure why they couldn't put a movie up or have someone organize some indoor games for the kids or add an activity..it was kind of a bummer and we just went to bed..saw bunch of kids kicking beach balls in lobby..activities staff should do better job Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"family friendly and clean!"
The first day was a little overwhelming as there was so much to learn and explore, but the staff was helpful when you sought them out. The resort is very family friendly, a huge plus. Multiple pools and basic activities without extra charges (paddle boats, mini golf, huge water slide on the beach, pirate show and bonfire for kids). Our room was compact, […] but super clean! Mini-fridge, toaster, micro, plates, cups and silverware was stocked. The hotel has various restaurants on site, which was great, but is also within walking distance of several restaurants and stores. We would definitely go back and recommend to others! "Family friendly beach resort, very noisy rooms"
I chose this hotel because of it's location and the extensive kid-friendly beach activities; giant water slide, floating water park. The water park wasn't set up while we were there. I heard a hotel staff member tell another guest it was broken. The exterior of the hotel and the grounds were very nice. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite overlooking the […] paddle boat area. The rooms appear recently updated in terms of flooring, bath tile, etc., But, I found it humorous that they would put granite counters in the kitchenette but keep the 30+ year old GE electric coil stove top. Unfortunately, they have not updated the structure itself. The door to our room had a 1 inch gap under it and b/c it was windy, it would cause a howling sound in our room at night that woke me up the first night. I resolved this with a towel jammed under the door each night. On Saturday, it rained and we realized that the glass balcony door didn't fit well either, as the rain was coming in to the room. More towels under more doors. Then we got some neighbors and realized how paper thin the walls were, when we woke up at 1:00 a.m. to a drunk, young couple fighting and swearing at each other. We had to call security, which responded immediately. But, we could hear them throughout the rest of our stay and I'm sure they could hear us as well. I saw similar noise complaints online before booking the room but didn't take the too seriously. I should have. it was really bad. The service of the staff was impeccable. "On St. Pete's Beach."
We were traveling from NYC 3/21-3/25. We got there around 10am knowing check in was late, but hoping a room was ready early. That was not the case. After three times of asking we got a room around 3pm and the staff said there was still more guests ahead of us. Day two there was a massive water leak, (not in my room) but other guests had no hot water […] all day. Overall, it's a nice place. The get you with that resort fee per day. "Rated "D" for "Disappointing""
The rooms shown on the Trade Winds official website looked like a dream-come-true, so I didn't hesitate to book my trip through Expedia. However, when I arrived at the hotel to check-in, I was immediately asked if I'd like to upgrade my room to a "gulf-view" for $60 extra per night. I asked them to clarify where the "gulf-view" room would be located, […] and they said I would be able to see the gulf from my room, but that it overlooked the parking lot. I declined that offer. They also offered me an upgrade for $30 a night for a room with a balcony. Sadly, the room overlooked the busy guest swimming pools. I declined that offer as well. So, I was then given the key to the room I had booked through Expedia. The room was located the farthest distance possible from the beach and had no view at all (except the busy main drag through St. Pete Beach). I was extremely disappointed that Expedia customers obviously received the rooms which a regular-paying customer would not take. Even if the room had been in a better location, I would not stay here again. The hotel staff was not friendly or helpful. I thought I was staying at a "resort" but instead it felt like a "motel" that happened to be on a beautiful beach even though the cost/night was NOT a motel rate! Also, a $35/night fee was charged for parking, cabana usage, and towels. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel, right on the beach, but very big."
We were only there two nights and the weather was less than desirable. The two restaurant meals we had were excellent, as were all the staff we encountered. I would want a bigger room the next time we came. I loved that the cabana was included as part of the activity fee.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Wow. Great value"
This resort is better than Atlantis. It is so family oriented with all the adult amenities. It is our new favorite place to stay. We had an oceanfront room with balcony. (You do need to specify balcony at the point of reservation). Oceanfront standard room does not have a balcony but is cheaper). It was so beautiful and well worth the upgrade. We could […] not believe all the activities and the amount of very well trained staff. Their are so many great restaurants and bars that we only ventured out a few times. The bar crawl was our favorite part of the trip. We were there 10 days so we did it twice. A really fun way to try all the restaurants and bars. Great live music throughout the day. Our kids loved all the activities. We had a check in system which allowed the adults to have an hour or so of fun while the kids were entertained. I can't believe people complain about the 30 dollar resort fee. We were so glad that they did it this way. We received a cabana set up fresh every morning, kids activities every couple of hours, a huge water slide sand toys to use at the beach fresh towels amazing staff parking in a secure lot. We thought it was an incredible value. Best resort in the US. We really like hard rocks too. But this had a much more beautiful beach. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice effort by staff to make an average place nice"
This was our second visit to the tradewinds and i dont know if we will go back. It quite honestly has all the makings of a great family destination but there are too many things that make it not so. The room layouts are horrible. Whether it be a one or two bedroom, the entry way walks you into the bedroom, which makes it impossible to get in or out […] without waking up children. There is a very small hallway that serves as an echo chamber into each room, so conversations have to be a whisper or everyone can hear everyone. It is adequate for group travel but definitely nothing more than a 3 star... next... the facility...wonderful facility with lots to do for everyone... but good Lord the bridges, walkways, etc... messy... not stroller or wheelchair friendly at all. Lastly... there is not a pool large enough for kids.. for such a massive facility.. they have 3 dinky family pools, and fair size adult only pool... Staff was very nice....a few of them were questionable, but you get that everywhere. We didnt have hot water two of the first three nights...they gave some weird explanation... but it happened.
