The only problem we experienced was a power outage one night that left us we no TV signal after power was restored. Contacted front desk and they were less than helpful stating they would get to it when they could but it might take hours. normally it would not have been a problem but we planned on staying in that night to watch the Final Four basketball games.

"Spring Break 2015"
This is our 3rd visit to Trade Winds. Our time on the beach was great. The beach is very beautiful and there are a lot of fun activities for the kids. We enjoyed the balance of adult and kid activities. I am disappointed in the the lodgings. We booked the one bedroom suite in November 2014, so it was not a last minute reservation. When we checked in we were given a room in the pet friendly area of the resort. We did not bring a pet, and we should at least have been asked if this area would be ok for us. All the surrounding guests had pets. We didn't care for that. We spent Easter at Trade Winds 2 years ago and enjoyed the Easter Brunch. While the cost is appropriate for adults, I do feel we were taken advantage of with the kids. My 13 year old was charged the adult fee. If she can eat off the children's menu at the restaurants on the resort, then she should also receive the children's price at the Brunch. The last time the Brunch included a children's offering with many foods that kids typically eat. They did not have that this year, and my daughter ended up eating a plate of pasta, some fruit and water. That cost us $46. We did not feel that was appropriate. My 7 year old was charged over $20, but we knew that would be his cost ahead of time.

The hotel is very large and upkeep was apparently a challenge during busy spring break. The incorrect room was given to us but the hotel staff rudely stated there were no other rooms until they played back my phone call tapes to reveal I was telling the truth about my room reservation and they in fact made the error. The room was then changed.

Extremely small room for the price. I get that spring break increases prices, but I would have been better off renting a condo or house and saved $$$ than to be put in a closet.

"Good Location, Rude Staff"
We were very disappointed in Tradewinds. The valet staff and wait staff were overall good. The staff at the front desk, concierge, cabana hut and Adventure Center were rude at best. The overall attitude was one of being bothered. They were not helpful or pleasant. The best thing going for this hotel is the beach. The overall condition of the rooms and hotel in general is old and run down. They have thrown some paint on the walls and tried to update it but it clearly needs more work for the prices they charge. The vent in our bathroom was full of black dust, it was disgusting! A beach cabana is "included" with your room...what they don't tell you is they don't have enough for all the rooms and you have to go online and reserve a cabana EVERY day after 2 or 3pm (depending on what day of the week it is). If you want a cabana on the first row there is an additional charge of $15. Activities are available on a first come basis, you cannot make a reservation for a future time. Except for tennis which you have to reserve one of the two courts they have if you want to play. Overall, we were extremely disappointed in this hotel. We will not be going back nor will we recommend it to anyone that we know.

Tracie, please accept my apology on behalf of the resort for not meeting your every expectation. I reviewed your folio history and observed that you had a 15 minute conversation with one of our Front Desk Managers regarding a perceived housekeeping issue. The manager was able to follow-up and discovered that the housekeeper actually came to your room at 3 PM to service your room, however, the Do Not Disturb sign was still on your door. The housekeeper attempted to come back 2 more times until your room was finally able to be serviced at 7 PM. I have forwarded your comments to the appropriate managers for follow-up with regards to your comments regarding the room issues and the Activities schedule. We are a family resort with many activities to offer families of all ages and therefore it is necessary to schedule certain events in advance to make sure we have proper coverage due to liability requirements. We do have our own website for reserving cabanas and our guests are able to reserve specific cabanas located on either property right down to specific location between the operating hours of 2 PM and 2 AM. The system allows our guests the opportunity to ensure they have will have cabana daily on our beautiful beach. We have recently completed a renovation on our Jacaranda Building that included both interior and exterior painting and replacement of all of our sliding glass doors and railings. As the Guest Satisfaction Manager, I can assure you that we take all guest concerns seriously and use these comments to strive to improve our overall guest experience. "Over priced, crowded and over rated"
Beds are old, rooms are small and air conditioning system is old - kept freezing up and leaking all over the bathroom from the ceiling, and very noisy. Had to have maintenance come twice in the middle of the night, still didn't fix it and my only compensation was a discount on the nightly amenity fee (which was a surprise charge added when I checked in). No other hotel charges this fee in that area. Every room has a connecting door and it felt like the noisy family next door was in the room with me! Very annoying for such a price!

Response by TradeWinds Island Grand
Karen, I am very sorry to hear of your disappointment during your recent stay. I am surprised with your comments regarding our beds as we have just recently replaced every mattress in our Jacaranda Building. Had this matter been brought to our attention during your stay we could have replaced the mattress upon request to prevent any further issue during your stay depending on which of our 5 other buildings you were staying in. The engineering issue you mentioned with regards to the A/C is an unfortunate occurrence that we tried to fix and I apologize for having to return to your room to complete the task. The Resort Amenity Fee you mentioned that was adjusted off for the inconvenience of the maintenance issue is a mandatory fee that all of our guests our required to pay during their stay. The fee includes 13 items, that if they were to be charged separately would greatly increase our guests out of pocket expense, which include the following: daily parking, access to the High Tide Slide and Triple Wipe Out, Fitness Center, Hooded Beach Cabana, Tennis Court play, paddleboats, Mini Golf Beach Volleyball, and both local and long distance calls. The concept behind the connecting doors is to allow our guests the opportunity to customize their room type depending on the size of their family/group or function. I hope this experience will not prevent you and your family from returning as we have many activities to offer. Chris Metro Guest Satisfaction Manager Tradewinds Island Resorts

"Great family getaway resort"
Great family friendly spring break getaway. We had a suite with a pullout sofa bed and kitchen which was convenient for my family. There is a ton of stuff to do with the kids. The location is perfect; right on the beautiful white sand beach. The food is a bit pricey on the resort but there are lots of great reasonably priced restaurants near by.

We enjoyed our stay but wish the weather would have cooperated. Friendly staff that helps you navigate the layout of the facilities. Loved the beach. Room was on 2nd floor of Jacaranda bulding - great location! Ate at Snappers....would recommend that to all visiting! Great to have pizza hut and ice cream onsite for quick lunches. Call for reservations in advance for the main restaurant on site. Couldn't get in so missed the fish tank experience While there.

We loved the resort, you could not ask for more. Anyone with children would not go wrong here, there is so much to do right at the resort, activities, places to eat, bars, Starbucks and close to grocery store and Walgreens. They have everything in one resort. Love it and will go back some day... 5 days of perfect weather what more could you ask for. We did have a ocean front room but next time will make sure that we have a balcony. We were in the last building (Breckenridge) which is by the adult pool, nice location. Music daily 1-4 by the Tiki bar. Great resort.

Great location right on beach. Our room didn't fully face water but we had totally amazing view of sunset. Lots of activities for kids and families with several pools, one for adults only. Nice gym, spa and restaurants. Kitchenette in room fully set up with basics for simple in-room meals (Pizza Hut Express, deli and restaurants with take-out all on site). "great for families"
A lot to do, great for kids, very busy but they try really hard to meet your needs. Food is sub par. Palm Court was the only restaurant I would even consider eating at. Room was clean, had a slight damp odor however. Staff was friendly, beach fabulous. Pool area hectic, but ample seating around the perimeter of pool. Overall I would go there again if kid related. Not a couple destination at all. Needs a major overhaul to be considered luxurious. Expensive for what you get in luxury and food choices.

"Pleasant oceanside stay"
This resort is real nice. It's somewhat sprawling and a bit confusing, but overall pleasant. I was hoping for bigger pools, but the huge slide at the beach and the other activities made the pool less important. Two things to note - don't eat at the Landing Bridge. The food was almost inedible. And almost all activities required you to go to the Adventure Center which wasn't as convenient as just getting your tickets at the actual activity. The beach is beautiful and the staff is ready to set up a cabana for you quickly.

"Family stay at Island Grand"
We went to spend some family time at the beach. The hotel offered quite a few activities. I thought there was basketball and tennis, but didn't find that. The water activity playground was not included with your resort fee and is not set up everyday - weather dependent. Our room was not very big, but we lucked out with a lounge area right out our door. "A beautiful, relaxing vacation"
Upon arrival, we were greeted at the gate. I appreciate the restricted access to the parking lot-otherwise I am sure there would be no parking available on nice beach days. The lobby is beautiful, the valet was very friendly. The resort fees cover daily parking and use of the 2-5th row cabanas-very nice-as well as the use of the slide and many beach games! The beach staff were helpful and friendly each morning. We stayed in the Breckenridge building- nice decor, but as another reviewer mentioned the light from the hallway shines around the door at night. The room was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the housekeeping staff was friendly. Food at the restaurants downstairs was good. We ate dinner at Beef O'Brady's and breakfast at Bermudas-both good, but the fish taco at the Flying Bridge was delicious!!! We enjoyed the option of picking up a light breakfast at the deli and eating it outdoors by the beach. Drinks were good- the bar crawl passport was fun. The pizza hut and ice cream counter is a nice option for families. Overall, it was a fabulous stay!

"Great for families"
Our first trip to St. Pete's was great. Hotel had plenty for the whole family. Our 6 yr old loved the paddle boats and variety of pools. Each day there were scheduled activities for the kids that just added to the fun. Loved the beach, nice and clean. Cabanas are included, big plus as normally they are an additional charge. Lots of stairs. Layed out oddly to accommodate the little water way for the paddle boats. We had a garden view and we could see the ocean from our balcony. All rooms to my knowledge are mini suites and we loved it. Spacious with a mini kitchen. Several places to eat right at the resort and a lovely beach walk to the new RumFish Grill. Costly, but nothing we didn't expect. Loved the ice cream shop. We grabbed ice cream daily as a special treat. Try the frozen drink Almond Joyous, it's sooooo good! Then sit back and enjoy your vacation.

The front desk did not follow thru on some of their paperwork which caused a delay for us getting to the beach the next day. I asked for manager and they never came to the counter. "Disappointing"
This hotel needs a renovation, decor is about 20 years overdue for an update. I find pictures of the property to be misleading. Rooms are uncomfortable and dated- we paid for a 2 room suit and got a unit that you had to enter through the bedroom. Only one elevator was working during our 5-day stay; we had to use stairs to get to our room on the 6th floor. When we were checking in, I asked front desk lady about the property and she gave a brochure, where "everything is listed". Felt very welcoming :) Overall it was an experience of a budget motel.

We were waiting in line at check in another staff saw us waiting and took us to check in at another desk. That was so nice after a long day of travel! We loved the convenience of the beach, ease of reserving beach cabana, and the reasonable prices of the on site restaurants. The staff who assisted us with printing our boarding passes was very friendly and helpful. The only improvements we would suggest would be to have some of the activities included in the amenities fee such as all the konk activities instead of just some. Also if you could install small washer/dryers in the units would make this vacation perfect.
