"Internet service not good"
It was nice but the Internet service it wasn't goodGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Good hotel, om location. Staff is very friendly. The only real con is that the advertised "free" breakfast does not have any food in it, just some juices, coffee, tea, granola, yogurt, cheese, begals, muffins. The real food is available for purchase. It is ok, but should have been explicitly mentioned in advance.Genuine Expedia guest review
Delightful surprise. Great staff!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good but noisy"
We booked a two bedrooms suite. The rooms are big and clean. We stayed on the 4th floor and could hear the traffics all night. Besides, the noise insolation is poor. We heard the noises from the upper level in the early morning. The bathroom has been re-modeled but it is lacking of countertop space. There is no hook in the bathroom! We had to take […] a small coffee table into the bathroom so as to put our clothes. Breakfast has very limited choices but it is good for us as we don't eat a lot in the morning. The hotel doesn't have pool and fitness center. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"What a fabulous place"
The renovation job they did is fantastic. Beautiful room. Great location. Wonderful restaurant and bar. Jerzey at the bar is a keeper...she is so dynamic and someone I would love to have on my team.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Affordable suite for family; exceeded expectations"
I was very pleased with this hotel; it far exceeded my expectations for the price. It is refurbished apartments, and has much more of a homey feel than most hotels. We had plenty of space for my wife and me, our two young children, and my parents in our two bedroom suite. Bedrooms are completely walled off from each other and the main large living area, […] which is important for traveling with children. The kitchen was excellent; having everything one would need except an oven. The free continental breakfast was excellent, and on the roof of the hotel with a panoramic view of the area, including the bay and nearby Balboa Park. The restaurant downstairs was also excellent and affordable, with live entertainment nightly. The staff was professional, kind, and helpful. The area was safe and quiet and easy to get in and out if with our vehicle. Valet parking was nice and reasonable for the area ($15 per night); however, you could get by with street parking, as spots were usually available on the block. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel, and would definitely visit again, especially if I were with my family. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great and spacious rooms"
The room was very spacious and just refurbished, I really liked that it had a kitchen, a living room a separate room. The location is great, just by the Balboa Park.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Funky property Great location"
We recently stayed for 2 nights and had a nice stay. The hotel rooms are great and have a very updated look and wonderful high ceilings. Unfortuneatly the common areas are a bit rough and worn looking. The staff was very courteous and the location is wonderful. It's old but not unclean, just a bit worn around the edges. I would definitely stay again […] though. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We really enjoyed our stay. We would stay there again. Only thing missing was a pool. The parking was the only other issue.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a lovely hotel. I had never stayed here before but I will return. Location is wonderful, just 2 blocks to Balboa Park, easy walking to many restaurants. Staff was wonderful, willing to help with anything you need.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Lovely old hotel in a semi-residential San Diego neighborhood across from Balboa Park. I was traveling with kids so we got the two-bedroom with living room and kitchen, it was basically like having our own apartment. Everything was in perfect working order and the staff was friendly, professional, and helpful. The restaurant downstairs was a little […] fancy for our needs, but there are a couple of nice restaurants nearby and a good deli down the street. Easy to get to the Zoo. My 11-year-old son loved it. Don't know about public transportation but it's a short drive downtown to more restaurants and bars. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I really enjoy this hotel, I've stayed here for vacations as well as for work; it's in a good area across from Balboa Park and the place is a good mix of old and new. This is not a fancy hotel, but the historic factor and what they have done in the most recent renovations makes if a great place to stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We really liked this hotel. My children 14, 12 and 9 said this was their favorite hotel and it didn't even have a pool. The room was clean and bright and it felt good! They slept well! The staff was helpful! We would recommend this hotel to anyone!Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel's location is excellent situated between Balboa Park and Hillcrest. The staff is helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean. Overall, a great place to stay in SD. The breakfast was just okay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for family"
The hotel is in an old building, the hallways are old and need to be updated but the room was great. We had a 2 bedroom suite and it comfortably fit 3 adults and 3 kids. We had a refrigerator, microwave and the kitched came equipped with dishes, utensils, etc. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was good since we were there to go to […] the zoo but it's not really close to anything else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfort back in time"
We had a wonderful experience at this updated and modernized historical hotel. The only suggestion would be to improve the kitchen utensils for cooking convenience. Otherwise it rated a 5 for sure.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great amenities, but noisy"
We loved the retro look and feel of the hotel, large bathroom, and kitchen was amazing, but it was very noisy. We were on the second floor right over the restaurant, and it was karaoke night. The windows are double-pane glass, so there is absolutely no sound buffer. It was also street-side, so there was traffic sounds as well. Thank goodness we played […] hard all day, so in the evening we put in our earplugs and were able to sleep through the noise. The staff was outstanding. Very helpful with any questions we had. Loved the proximity to Balboa Park. The complimentary continental breakfast was OK, but very little variety. We were there for 3 mornings and ate the same things each day. Would recommend, but make sure you request a room that isn't streetside. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"great boutique hotel"
Hotel and staff were excellent. My only complaint noise from construction across the street from hotel room and noise coming from within the hotel that sounded like a generator or something turning on and off 24/7. Great room and staff. Was there about 10 years ago. They have made great changes. View from the penthouse eating area was wounderful. We will stay there on our next trip to San Diego and tell friendsGenuine Expedia guest review
"VERY NICE HOTEL"
This is a very nice hotel. Our room was quite a surprise with the art deco and contemporary deco. This hotel is close to Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. Our ambient temp while there was 66 degrees. Wonderful restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Be sure to get on the sightseeing trolleys.Genuine Expedia guest review
We stayed here for my nephews graduation from MCRD. It was a 10 minute drive with the lights. The hotel has character. You can tell its old, but it's extremely clean and updated. The personnel were extremely heplful. Once you check in, they give you a visitor package with information on what to do and what to see in San Diego. The surrounding area is […] clean and Balboa Park is across the street. I will be staying here again. The complimentary breakfast is excellent to say the least. "excellent hotel. excellent location"
wonderful stay, excellent hotel, wonderful recent renovations. my favorite san diego hotel, i cant imagine staying elsewhere in san diegoGenuine Expedia guest review
From the many TripAdvisor reviews, I was expecting a very nice but not quite top-rate hotel. In fact, I found this to be excellent in every respect. Check-in was easy, followed by a brief visit to the concierge who gave us a 'Welcome-pack' with maps, suggestions for visits, very useful information regarding the free trolley to Balboa Park, etc. The […] room was huge and beautifully appointed. All-new bathroom and small kitchen offered every amenity. The location, as so many reviews here have pointed out, is perfect for visiting all the museums and other attractions of Balboa Park. What is not mentioned is that the hotel is in a residential district, not a commercial one. As such, it is very quiet and safe. There are many restaurants within easy walking distance. I plan to return here on my next visit to San Diego, and I recommend the Inn to anyone seeking a perfectly-located comfortable and tranquil hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel with a great/terrible location."
The hotel was amazing in most ways. The staff was incredibly friendly, offering help before you can even ask! The room was clean, free of smells, the shower was spotless, etc. This hotel is also across the street from Balboa park and within walking distance to the San Diego Zoo (there is a nice walking path to it). The free continental breakfast was […] pretty nice, but very carb-heavy (we didn't care, but some people may). The view from the 7th floor rooftop restaurant is amazing too! The only downside to our stay was that one our first night there, there were 3-4 ambulances blaring their sirens between midnight and 8am. Then we had a free alarm at 10am when there was a car-crash about 15 feet from the hotel. This wouldn't have been a problem if the windows blocked out noise better; we actually thought the windows were open, but nope, they just don't block out noise. The second night was much quieter! "Rebirth of an old gem"
This is an older hotel that has been and continues to be remodeled and upgraded to a grander standard. I've stayed here before the renovations and am overjoyed with the improvements. The restaurant is still iffy. Some things are good, others awful, but give them time. The bar and entertainment is great.Genuine Expedia guest review
"The Rooms are amazing...."
This hotel is an older one that has really nicely updated rooms. There is a full kitichen and lots of space. The linens were nice and overall a very nice stay. The elevator is a little tempermental, but everyone there is super friendly. A great stay for the price as you only need to drive down 6th to the Gas Lamp district and back up on 5th to get back. […] Very convenient. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Delightful surprise within Hillcrest!"
I would agree with the other reviews that the hotel itself isn't that nice. The hallways appear clean but old and a bit run down and the piano bar/restaurant below is dark, gloomy and outdated. But the lobby is nice and clean and so is the elevator (although a bit slow!). The biggest delight was the room: it was exactly like it was shown on the web […] site! It is updated, CLEAN, cute, cheery and fun! We were pleasantly surprised at how modern and chic it was with a full kitchen and dishes, flat screen tv and a huge walk in shower. We had two large separate closets to hang our clothes and a wonderful overhead fan to keep us cool under our comfy comforter. And the view was amazing of Balboa Park right across the street. The next morning, we took the stairs up to the rooftop and had a wonderful continental breakfast overlooking the city and the Park. There aren't many tables outside so you have to go early (or wait for a table) or eat inside in the lovely classy restaurant. The staff were nice and the concierge was very helpful with a great Mexican restaurant within walking distance. And parking is free right across the street. We only stayed one night but will be back to stay at least two or three nights. WiFi is free but only in the lobby. I would recommend this hotel so long as you don't mind the "old charm" of the hotel! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel with minor problems"
The bed was a little too firm for my liking. There was an annoying buzzing sound that would go off every few minutes. The elevator took forever to get to the floor when you push the button to call it. The valet guy was friendly and always quickly retrieved the car.Genuine Expedia guest review

We have never had a nicer room. We've been to over 50 countries and all 50 states, but never a more pleasant suite. I was so excited I looked for another city with a really decorated suite, I could'nt find one as nice. Our suite was really big. "Great value, lots of room"
I've stayed at this hotel a few times over the years and have always appreciated the great value for the amount of square footage and location (right on the edge of the park and just south of Hillcrest). Also, the place has a great atmosphere. New ownership has recently updated rooms, so they've still got a cool retro feel but less shabby chic and more […] quality furnishings. Only drawback is the waterpump for the airconditioning unit is loud and kept us awake one of the nights of our stay. Once we realized what the issue was, we opened windows and didn't use airconditioning. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Boutique Hotel - across from Balboa Park"
Very pleased. Excellent service from all staff members, from check-in all the way to check-out. The room was amazing - much nicer than expected. This place was a very pleasant surprise when we walked in. Clean, comfortable, great central location, nicely decorated, decent complementary breakfast. Only complaint is it can be loud with traffic and people in the halls.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stylish and Comfortable"
Really impressed by my stay there. The room looked like it was a boutique hotel room. Everything was new and nice, bedding was clean, breakfast was served in a cute restaurant downstairs, the service was good too. There is 7/11 across the street and Hillcrest bars are in a walking distance too. Wish my stay was longer!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great, newly renovated Boutique Inn"
My husband and I stayed at this newly renovated boutique inn located directly across the street from beautiful Balboa Park. Our space was wonderful with a fully equipped kitchen! I think I was the first to use it. Exactly like the photos on their website! The continental breakfast was great! Everything except hot foods that you could order at a decent […] price, which we opted to do our last day. Only thing that needs repairing is the squeaky ceiling that we heard when the people were upstairs from us. Unfortunately it was late at night and very early in the morning. :( Very close to many desirable locations and airport. I was worried about parking, but got a space in front almost every night. I would absolutely go back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not a typical hotel"
Walked in and the hallways were dark and smelly. Not a good start. Got to the room and the room was MUCH better. The bed was comfortable and the room was quite large with the biggest couch I've ever seen. Walk in closet helps minimize the clutter, and the kitchen could have been handy, but we didn't use it. The breakfast was great with cereal, bagels, […] muffins, fruit etc.. I was disappointed we didn't have WiFi in the room. All in all a decent place to stay, but not sure I'll be back. A little to old (things pealing and the dank smell) for me. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great extended stay option"
Old-style apartments converted into hotels rooms means livable areas where extended stays are a joy. We stayed 4 nights in the 1-room balcony suite. It had a gigantic living room and bedroom. Bathroom was oddly split between a very small shower/toilet area and a sink area in the bedroom. Very workable and offers some convenience for two people getting […] ready. Only one bathroom sink with limited counter space, so get ready to share. Kitchen was fantastic and useful (with dishwasher). Note: no ice maker, but ice trays available. Dining area had to double as a desk for our needs. Plenty of room for a proper desk, so would be a nice add. Internet connection was good on third floor, but the setup is odd and it is challenging to find the 'right connection'. Valet parking is almost required. Street parking is possible, but annoying and undependable. Valet in-and-out service was great. Area around the hotel is more neighborhood vs business, so consider your walking comfort if you want to avoid driving. Top of the Inn was great for breakfast - we did a combination of ordering a breakfast and getting items from the continental breakfast offerings. Great, but distant, view of the bay and Coronado Island. For dinner we did room service one night and it was better than most. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Inn at the park"
I stayed at the Inn at the Park from Monday until Friday for work. The king suite was spacious & clean. The valet & concierge were always friendly & helpful during my stay. The free breakfast was slightly disappointing, but I dont generally eat at the hotel. Upon check-in our room was not ready. They offered a room on the first floor; however, we did not want it. They then offered us a room on the top floor but warned us there might be some noise on Friday evening due to their weekly event on the roof that night. We didn't mind as we thought we'd probably be joining the revelers (and we did). It turned […] out they upgraded us to the "Presidential Suite" and we had a wonderful corner room with two bedrooms, a large living room, a small dining room, and a kitchen. Although they made some "interesting" choices (according to my partner, the interior designer) during the remodel, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and were always greeted by the staff when we came and went. The in/out privileges with the valet parking (for $15/night) was great. We would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there on our next San Diego get-away weekend. "Cute room, good location"
Room was very well appointed and decorated fashionably. However, there was a slight moldy smell upon entering. The hotel staff was friendly but their conversations amongst each other was pretty inappropriate. Also, I needed to ship a package via FedEx, had everything boxed up and they wouldn't call FedEx to pick up the box. The front desk staff asked […] me to call FedEx to schedule a pick up and they would hold it at the front until it gets picked up. Was not happy about this. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
