"Great place in the middle of San Diego"
Friendly staff, nice hotel, accommodated my family needs well. It's within a 15 minute walk to the heart of Balboa Park and the Hillcrest dining area.Genuine Expedia guest review
"great boutique hotel"
Hotel and staff were excellent. My only complaint noise from construction across the street from hotel room and noise coming from within the hotel that sounded like a generator or something turning on and off 24/7. The room was lovely, staff professional & accommodating. Location in Hillcrest area close to park etc. Would definitely stay there agai […] n Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Great room and staff. Was there about 10 years ago. They have made great changes. View from the penthouse eating area was wounderful. We will stay there on our next trip to San Diego and tell friendsGenuine Expedia guest review
"VERY NICE HOTEL"
This is a very nice hotel. Our room was quite a surprise with the art deco and contemporary deco. This hotel is close to Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. Our ambient temp while there was 66 degrees. Wonderful restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Be sure to get on the sightseeing trolleys.Genuine Expedia guest review
We stayed here for my nephews graduation from MCRD. It was a 10 minute drive with the lights. The hotel has character. You can tell its old, but it's extremely clean and updated. The personnel were extremely heplful. Once you check in, they give you a visitor package with information on what to do and what to see in San Diego. The surrounding area is […] clean and Balboa Park is across the street. I will be staying here again. The complimentary breakfast is excellent to say the least. "excellent hotel. excellent location"
wonderful stay, excellent hotel, wonderful recent renovations. my favorite san diego hotel, i cant imagine staying elsewhere in san diegoGenuine Expedia guest review
From the many TripAdvisor reviews, I was expecting a very nice but not quite top-rate hotel. In fact, I found this to be excellent in every respect. Check-in was easy, followed by a brief visit to the concierge who gave us a 'Welcome-pack' with maps, suggestions for visits, very useful information regarding the free trolley to Balboa Park, etc. The […] room was huge and beautifully appointed. All-new bathroom and small kitchen offered every amenity. The location, as so many reviews here have pointed out, is perfect for visiting all the museums and other attractions of Balboa Park. What is not mentioned is that the hotel is in a residential district, not a commercial one. As such, it is very quiet and safe. There are many restaurants within easy walking distance. I plan to return here on my next visit to San Diego, and I recommend the Inn to anyone seeking a perfectly-located comfortable and tranquil hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel with a great/terrible location."
The hotel was amazing in most ways. The staff was incredibly friendly, offering help before you can even ask! The room was clean, free of smells, the shower was spotless, etc. This hotel is also across the street from Balboa park and within walking distance to the San Diego Zoo (there is a nice walking path to it). The free continental breakfast was […] pretty nice, but very carb-heavy (we didn't care, but some people may). The view from the 7th floor rooftop restaurant is amazing too! The only downside to our stay was that one our first night there, there were 3-4 ambulances blaring their sirens between midnight and 8am. Then we had a free alarm at 10am when there was a car-crash about 15 feet from the hotel. This wouldn't have been a problem if the windows blocked out noise better; we actually thought the windows were open, but nope, they just don't block out noise. The second night was much quieter! "Rebirth of an old gem"
This is an older hotel that has been and continues to be remodeled and upgraded to a grander standard. I've stayed here before the renovations and am overjoyed with the improvements. The restaurant is still iffy. Some things are good, others awful, but give them time. The bar and entertainment is great.Genuine Expedia guest review
"The Rooms are amazing...."
This hotel is an older one that has really nicely updated rooms. There is a full kitichen and lots of space. The linens were nice and overall a very nice stay. The elevator is a little tempermental, but everyone there is super friendly. A great stay for the price as you only need to drive down 6th to the Gas Lamp district and back up on 5th to get back. "Delightful surprise within Hillcrest!"
I would agree with the other reviews that the hotel itself isn't that nice. The hallways appear clean but old and a bit run down and the piano bar/restaurant below is dark, gloomy and outdated. But the lobby is nice and clean and so is the elevator (although a bit slow!). The biggest delight was the room: it was exactly like it was shown on the web […] site! It is updated, CLEAN, cute, cheery and fun! We were pleasantly surprised at how modern and chic it was with a full kitchen and dishes, flat screen tv and a huge walk in shower. We had two large separate closets to hang our clothes and a wonderful overhead fan to keep us cool under our comfy comforter. And the view was amazing of Balboa Park right across the street. The next morning, we took the stairs up to the rooftop and had a wonderful continental breakfast overlooking the city and the Park. There aren't many tables outside so you have to go early (or wait for a table) or eat inside in the lovely classy restaurant. The staff were nice and the concierge was very helpful with a great Mexican restaurant within walking distance. And parking is free right across the street. We only stayed one night but will be back to stay at least two or three nights. WiFi is free but only in the lobby. I would recommend this hotel so long as you don't mind the "old charm" of the hotel! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel with minor problems"
The bed was a little too firm for my liking. There was an annoying buzzing sound that would go off every few minutes. The elevator took forever to get to the floor when you push the button to call it. The valet guy was friendly and always quickly retrieved the car.Genuine Expedia guest review

We have never had a nicer room. We've been to over 50 countries and all 50 states, but never a more pleasant suite. I was so excited I looked for another city with a really decorated suite, I could'nt find one as nice. Our suite was really big. "Great value, lots of room"
I've stayed at this hotel a few times over the years and have always appreciated the great value for the amount of square footage and location (right on the edge of the park and just south of Hillcrest). Also, the place has a great atmosphere. New ownership has recently updated rooms, so they've still got a cool retro feel but less shabby chic and more […] quality furnishings. Only drawback is the waterpump for the airconditioning unit is loud and kept us awake one of the nights of our stay. Once we realized what the issue was, we opened windows and didn't use airconditioning. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Boutique Hotel - across from Balboa Park"
Very pleased. Excellent service from all staff members, from check-in all the way to check-out. The room was amazing - much nicer than expected. It was large and airy, with great views, and came with its own kitchenette. The location was very convenient - across from Balboa Park and all its attractions.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Stylish and Comfortable"
Really impressed by my stay there. The room looked like it was a boutique hotel room. Everything was new and nice, bedding was clean, breakfast was served in a cute restaurant downstairs, the service was good too. There is 7/11 across the street and Hillcrest bars are in a walking distance too. Wish my stay was longer!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great, newly renovated Boutique Inn"
My husband and I stayed at this newly renovated boutique inn located directly across the street from beautiful Balboa Park. Our space was wonderful with a fully equipped kitchen! I think I was the first to use it. Exactly like the photos on their website! The continental breakfast was great! Everything except hot foods that you could order at a decent […] price, which we opted to do our last day. Only thing that needs repairing is the squeaky ceiling that we heard when the people were upstairs from us. Unfortunately it was late at night and very early in the morning. :( Very close to many desirable locations and airport. I was worried about parking, but got a space in front almost every night. I would absolutely go back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not a typical hotel"
Walked in and the hallways were dark and smelly. Not a good start. Got to the room and the room was MUCH better. The bed was comfortable and the room was quite large with the biggest couch I've ever seen. Walk in closet helps minimize the clutter, and the kitchen could have been handy, but we didn't use it. The breakfast was great with cereal, bagels, […] muffins, fruit etc.. I was disappointed we didn't have WiFi in the room. All in all a decent place to stay, but not sure I'll be back. A little to old (things pealing and the dank smell) for me. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great extended stay option"
Old-style apartments converted into hotels rooms means livable areas where extended stays are a joy. We stayed 4 nights in the 1-room balcony suite. It had a gigantic living room and bedroom. Bathroom was oddly split between a very small shower/toilet area and a sink area in the bedroom. Very workable and offers some convenience for two people getting […] ready. Only one bathroom sink with limited counter space, so get ready to share. Kitchen was fantastic and useful (with dishwasher). Note: no ice maker, but ice trays available. Dining area had to double as a desk for our needs. Plenty of room for a proper desk, so would be a nice add. Internet connection was good on third floor, but the setup is odd and it is challenging to find the 'right connection'. Valet parking is almost required. Street parking is possible, but annoying and undependable. Valet in-and-out service was great. Area around the hotel is more neighborhood vs business, so consider your walking comfort if you want to avoid driving. Top of the Inn was great for breakfast - we did a combination of ordering a breakfast and getting items from the continental breakfast offerings. Great, but distant, view of the bay and Coronado Island. For dinner we did room service one night and it was better than most. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I stayed at the Inn at the Park from Monday until Friday for work. The king suite was spacious & clean. The valet & concierge were always friendly & helpful during my stay. Upon check-in our room was not ready. They offered a room on the first floor; however, we did not want it. They then offered us a room on the top floor but warned us there might be some noise on Friday evening due to their weekly event on the roof that night. We didn't mind as we thought we'd probably be joining the revelers (and we did). It turned […] out they upgraded us to the "Presidential Suite" and we had a wonderful corner room with two bedrooms, a large living room, a small dining room, and a kitchen. Although they made some "interesting" choices (according to my partner, the interior designer) during the remodel, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and were always greeted by the staff when we came and went. The in/out privileges with the valet parking (for $15/night) was great. We would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there on our next San Diego get-away weekend. "Cute room, good location"
Room was very well appointed and decorated fashionably. However, there was a slight moldy smell upon entering. The hotel staff was friendly but their conversations amongst each other was pretty inappropriate. Also, I needed to ship a package via FedEx, had everything boxed up and they wouldn't call FedEx to pick up the box. The front desk staff asked […] me to call FedEx to schedule a pick up and they would hold it at the front until it gets picked up. Was not happy about this. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I was completely delighted with the Inn at the Park. I was traveling with my three grandchildren and had booked a two-bedroom suite. The room was comfortable, clean and well-appointed. Its […] location, diectly across the street from the park, is ideal. The front desk staff and parking valets were friendly and heIpful. "Beautiful Historic Hotel"
The hotel was beautifully renovated. I loved the decor. The continental breakfast was okay, but lacked protein. If they had a pool/hot tub and a bathtub, rather than shower, it would have been perfect for our family. As-is: it's great for adults.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"First Stay - Will be Back!"
Was so glad that I found this property. The location next to Balboa Park was Fabulous and close to the Gaslamp district as well as Wilshire. Will definately come again and stay longer! Great old building with well done remodel. noise from room above you could be problematic but not much can be done about that with such an old building. convenient valet parking and location across the street. This wonderful hotel is in the process of a transformation. We had a beautifully renovated King suite with pull-out single beds. The family enjoyed just lounging in the room or on the balcony. Hotel staff was very accommodating. Room was large and very well appointed. The hotel is older and has a lot of nostalgic appeal. "Great renovations, just a few small items of note."
Great desk staff. Was surprised by valet-only paid on site parking, did not remember this from Expedia listing. Had stayed at the Inn when it used to be Park Manor Suites and parking was included. To say free self parking is available on surrounding streets is a cop out and not a reality given dreadful Hillcrest parking situation. So this was an unwelcome […] surprise. Essentially the hotel has you trapped into a paid valet situation when you check in. Our room was right behind the registration desk and was very noisy next to lobby with loud guests, children, etc. -- door should be upgraded for sound insulation somehow. But the trade off was that we could access the lobby wifi from our room where other rooms can't. So we were ok with noise. The hotel is greatly renovated after the ownership change -- beautiful and comfortable rooms! So much nicer! One suggestion would be to install sheers over the main window so you could open the roller shade to let light in but still have privacy. The roller shade was great with the photo print on it and was great for blackout, but in the a.m. It would be nice to let light in without giving passersby a free show. "A Fantastic Place..."
A fantastic place... but, my single biggest complaint is definitely the wifi. My first night there, I was advised to bring my computer down to the lobby to connect to the wifi, having failed to establish a connection in my room. Even that failed to help, and this was AFTER having the staff reboot the router TWICE. For whatever reason, things seemed […] fine the next day, when without even thinking about it, I tried to access my email, and lo and behold, there it was. I continued to have some intermittent issues and achingly slow speeds, but it became bearable after that. OTHERWISE, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL. The staff was sincerely helpful, friendly and courteous, the room MUCH nicer than I expected; clean and sumptuously appointed. I will stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Room is nice, that's about it."
The room was very nice as they are converted apartments, so you get a full kitchen, living room, bedroom, and updated bathroom. Few cons: There was no vent in the bathroom. The hotel itself is old and it shows. Creaky floors, chipped paint, etc. The elevators are slow. The "free wireless" is only good in the lobby. The "complimentary breakfast" offers […] very little: Bagels, bananas, pastries, coffee and juice. That is it. The service elevator to the west of the building groans, so if you're on that side of the building, you'll hear it all night. To say the least, we took the stairs. I paid extra for the balcony room, of which I got put on the 1st floor. My hopes that I may get a park view were way off, as the balconies apparently only look into the building to the south, and I imagine the buildings to the north. Being on the 1st floor, my balcony sat about 10 feet from a major dumpster, which looked like a temporary one for construction, but nonetheless. I asked the front desk if they had other rooms, which they had one left on the 3rd floor. They were very kind and had no problem switching my room for me. There are very good sushi restaurants in walking distance as well as the zoo and park. Downtown San Diego would prob take you about 30-50 minutes to walk to, but we like walking soo... that's the whole story. Oh, they have a rooftop bar too that was pretty packed the night we got there for some local event, but we never got to see it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel, I recommend! Will be back im sure."
Wonderful hotel. A little on the old side but rooms and lobby are well maintained. We had some major issues at check in but the manager was sure to have the issues addressed and satisfy my husband and I. The rooms are nice! We experienced a one bedroom suite and a two bedroom suite. Both are very roomy, nicely decorated and clean! The bathrooms were […] very clean and well stocked! I am usually gorssed out by bathrooms but not here! Clean clean clean. The free breakfast was your normal stuff, pretty darn good. Oatmeal, pasteries, fruit, cereal, bagels, muffins and assorted drinks. They offer hot breakfast to order and we kept getting a $5 plate on top of the free stuff which kept all of us very full and satisfied until lunch time! One elevator that takes forever so use the stairs when you can :) Beds extremely comfy. Staff very helpful. Kitchen in rooms very nice! I was able to make dinner one night and lunch another day, pots and pans in room, good size sink to clean up, excellent! Try and get a park view! Balboa park view was amazing. Street parking is limited so circle around a few times and try to get in. My husband prefered to pay for valet since he felt the car was safer in there?? Not many places to eat that is walking distance. We visited 7-11 very often as it's right behind the hotel. Good for drinks and yummy $1 a slice pizza if you have kids! Valey workers were fablous! All very helpful and friendly! Hotel is nice. I would come back to visit! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
