"Modest hotel...don't expect any luxuries"
Estethically speaking this hotel didn't meet my expectations. The pictures posted made it look nicer than what it really is. It's definitely an older hotel that and management should spend some money on modernizations. In other things, the elevator made me dizzy everytime I got on it, this was probably due because of its old structure. On a positive […] note, our room was small but had important ammenities. I did like that the kitchenette had all the necessary things to cook a meal, if I had desired to do so. The housekeeper did a great job cleaning our mess. Hygiene is probably a priority as I never felt that the hotel was dirty in any way. I didnt like paying the 10 a day ammenities fee, but I was told its mandatory. I tried to negotiate my way out of if, to no avail. If you're trying to save $$$ and don't mind a modest hotel, then this place is for you. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great room, so so lobby"
I enjoyed the staff and the room was a pleasant surprise. The lobby and elevator made me nervous, at first, about the room. When we walk in the room the view was amaxing and the room was great. There were floor to ceiling sliding glass doors that were huge.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Great for families - walking distance to beach, restaurants, market; and having a kitchen or kitchenette is extremely helpful. The rooms are comparatively large. Also, the pool gets good sunlight since it's on the roof (even though the water is cold.)Genuine Expedia guest review

I found one cockroach and I actually never ate anything in the room. I check in around 3p, after taking a nap for my jet lag, I went out at 7p and back at around 12 midnight, and found the cockroach was hide under my pajama which I placed on the vanity counter. I used the toilet paper to kill the cockroach, and called front desk immediately. Front desk […] staff answered they will send someone come up. However, the person who knocked my door is a big tall security guy, trying to enter a lady’s room during midnight. I denied his access and called to inquiry for professional housekeeping staff to do hygiene work, but the feedback is the hotel only has one night auditor (the front desk staff) and one security guy available during night time. That is most ridiculous talk I ever heard, from a 3 stars and 24 hours operation hotel. I request checking out immediately, the front desk staff told me to stay up until 8am for their executive housekeeper to answer my question. I am so exhausted, but the fear of the room cleanliness and the bed is not comfortable also, I only can fall sleep at 6am. When I was planning to meet their executive housekeeper, I was informed hotel managers are only working from Monday to Friday. What I told their supervisor is “thanks for the terrible stay “ !!! Moreover, I have two door key becoz the first one is not working. Unfortunately, the second door key I have to wait for 30 seconds to try again for a paid guest can enter to her room, thanks God!! "A joyful place, great value"
Our economy saver room was very clean and fresh and well-designed, with small no-nonsense kitchenette. The long dimension of the room runs parallel to the outside of the building rather than into the depths of the bulding. This makes for a light and airy presence, unlike a lot of places which seem like caves. The Main room sliding glass doors open WIDE […] so the whole room can be an open air experience if you want it. Tip: If the balcony seems narrow, just open the glass doors and the whole room becomes a balcony, with the table front and center. Or block the sun and heat with the very effective curtain if you need to crash mid-day. Staff are attentive 24/7 and quick to provide nice fresh beach towells for the asking at the desk at any time. There is a $10 per day surcharge for "incidentals" that you may or may not be aware of when you book, but it is still a good value, and we feel well worth it. On check-out, and without prompting, the desk kept track, and made sure our airport shuttle pickup had not forgotten us when it appeared it was running late. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We loved our stay at the Pacific Monarch. Very close to the beach and all the amenities of Waikiki! Very affordable, clean and comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room I was given was very poorly maintained, it looked as if it hadn't been updated since the 70's. The carpeting was worn and dirty, the bathroom tub was in need of re-glazing, the patio furnirture had chipped paint, the cabinets in the bathroom and kitchen had chipped veneer, the pots and pans were worn and scratched, the closet door handle kept […] falling apart. I was amazed the smoke alarm actually worked when I tested it! The hallways could have used some modernizing and brightening as they seemed dark. Overall I would only rate this place 2 stars at best. "Great location and structure. Needs remodeling."
The view is great. The service is great. But the building is old and the carpeting and paint show it. Also the window air conditioning unit needs to be a little more powerful and not automatically switch to fan in the middle of the night. However, I would stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Budget Waikiki Hotel"
There was dust & dirt in the corners & walls. Paint was peeling outside on the deck. The hall carpet had plastic covering half of the hallway & held down by duct tape. The hotel is an older building & looked like it. We also saw a few cockroaches in the kitchen sink.Genuine Expedia guest review

Overall, this hotel was a good place to stay in Waikiki since I was using it mostly as a place to sleep and keep my things. The kitchenette was a nice touch and the staff was really nice. "Aston Pacific Monarch Review"
We had a good time at Aston Pacific Monarch during our Oahu trip. The lobby and hallways of the hotel are outdated, but we enjoyed our updated rooms. The only compliant is our bathroom wasn't fully updated, so the shower was tiny! We also didn't like the mandatory internet/dvd/newspaper charge. We did make good use of the DVD machine on the top floor […] but we never read the free newspapers. I'm really glad that there was a small kitchen in our room and it came with all of the appliances/tableware you'll ever need; Very convenient! The location of the hotel is very good, a short walk to the beach and close to many shops/restaurants. Choosing the oceanview room is a must, the large windows are amazing but it could get noisy at night. Overall I would recommend this hotel if the price is right! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"They tried, but..."
While staying here, I had to move rooms twice. The first time the AC went out so they moved me to a different room. Not a better one, just different. The second time, my stay was extended past the original reservation, so they moved me again. This room was a little nicer but had not been cleaned. The trash was not taken out. There was a pile of dirty […] towels in the shower and there were dirty dishes on the counter. The service that the staff tried to give was good and they were always helpful. It just seems like the owners don't want to reinvest in the hotel to make it a quality place to stay. A pity. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Terrific condo/hotel in the heart of Waikiki"
The Pacific Monarch has become my "gold standard" for business travel to Oahu. I go there twice a year on business, and after many years, have standardized on the Pacific Monarch. The location is excellent for me - it's on Kuhio, which is a block removed from the beach - still easy access to businesses and restaurants on Kalakaua but with a lot less […] tourist traffic. Plus, Kuhio is a 2-way street so it's very easy to get out in the AM to Ala Wai and on to the Nimitz to make business calls on the island. There are TONS of restaurants, stores, and services all within very easy walking distance. The only drawback is parking - the hotel garage is now open to the public. So you have no guarantee of a space at any given time. The garage is tight - big rental cars are a total PITA - so if you're going to stay and park here, rent a compact car. Parking is $20 a day, CASH ONLY. You pay at a machine at the first level. The rooms all have full kitchens with pots and pans if you want to eat in and cook. They have also all been recently updated with new furniture, beds, carpets, bathrooms, etc. If you want a true lanai, request a corner suite. Otherwise, the balconies, while being VERY wide (20 feet), are very narrow and will freak you out if you're on a high floor. There is a wonderful lounge room on the 32nd floor, with fully open windows and tables and chairs to relax and read a book while getting the ocean breeze. The pool and jacuzzi are also awesome, one floor up on the roof. Stunning views of the ocean from the West side of the pool deck. Great hotel in every way - fully recommend. "Room was okay but the hotel needs upgrades"
The subject pretty much summarizes our stay. The quality of our room was okay but the hotel hallways need a major renovation. Right in front of the elevators they had taped garbage bags on to the floor which made the place look really old. Plus the hallway carpetting and walls looked dingy. The rooms were okay and fairly comfortable. The swimming pool […] area was at the very top of the hotel so it had nice views but the pool was a bit small (probably only comfortably fits ten people at most). They did have a hot tub which was kind of nice. The location was a block from kuhio beach so it was super close and restaurants and shopping were near by. Overall I would recommend this place if you are on a super tight budget and really wanted to stay at a hotel. However I personally would rather spend the few extra bucks for somewhere a bit nicer or rent a condo. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Aston Pacific Monarch-Don't waste your money, seriously."
Stayed here with my 4 year old son and senior citizen parents for a 7 day visit from Aug 7-Aug14. Lobby is outdated and concierge guy is dry. Pictures are true to what you see, but on a smaller scale, with no wireless in room either. I found a dirty purple lace underwear between the armoire and the wall in the closet (disgusting!). Our room got HOT […] in the afternoon so you're literally having to sit in front of the a/c to cool down. Lanai SMALL (about 2 ft), but long with no chairs. The Hospitality Room is on top floor where there's an open window room with tables and chairs. Has old TV with a sink, drinks machine, ice (crazy you have to go so far for ice), and a DVD movie rental box. The pool access is also on this floor and it's awful--having to go up stairs in a real inconvenient small corridor making hard for small children or physically challenged (saw a kid slip on stairs). If you have a car rental: BEWARE! PARKING IS NOT PART OF THE HOTEL, $20/day and managed by a creepy tow co., Tow Jams, which we got the priviledge of visiting on Mary St. on what looked like skid row of Honolulu, so bad that the cab driver waited for us and lead us back to hotel. Our 6 day permit WAS VISIBLE and CORRECTLY posted. Makes me wonder who's cashing in on the $343 that we paid for parking at this hotel ($120/6 day parking, $40 cab fee to Mary St., and $183 to release car). Manager said he couldn't do anything, makes me wonder who's really involved. I DO NOT recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"More like the Pacific 'Caterpillar'"
The Monarch was acceptable, that's all. Location is nice, particularly for kids, just 2 blocks from the keiki beaches. Room was indeed recently remodeled and nice enough: the bed (often saggy in hotels) was solid and firm, but the pillows were the lumpiest, cheapest I've ever seen. The 'partial ocean view' of the studio suites is a stretch, as there […] was a tiny patch in between other buildings that you could sort of see (our rooms were on the 8th and 9th floors, so higher might be better); we had to keep the drapes closed due to apartments directly across. Know that ALL of the studio suites are 'right-next-to-the-elevator' rooms due to configuration. That was a big concern upon check-in, but to be fair, I only heard the elevators 3-4 times during the whole week. If you are a light sleeper, however, that could be a concern. Helping mask the elevator noise was the air conditioner, which seemed under-sized and poorly placed; it had to crank hard almost all night long. Finally, perhaps just bad timing, but they were 'working' on the trash chutes. That meant our entire hallway reeked like a dumpster. Unbelievably, the smell did not infect the room, but it really was disgusting to be greeted by that every time we opened our door or got off the elevator. Reviews seemed high for the star-rating, and I was hoping for a deal, but both the Shore (very nice, but more $) and the Waikiki Sunset (same $) were better for us 2 and 5 years ago respectively. You can do better. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel, but a bit noisy from the street and no free guest parking"
Good hotel, but a bit noisy from the street. However this should be at the highrise hotel in downtown with windows open. Also this hotel does not have free or even discounted parking for guests. If you are staying for more than a few days then I would reccommend a room with full kitchen. "Great experience in Waikiki"
We were on the 13th floor in a brand beautifully refurbished room with a kitchenette. It was FABULOUS. Being able to cook sometimes was great and having a refrigerator for cool items was essential (beware Waikiki is a little pricey.) The staff was great and other guests were very considerate. We had a car so having a parking structure right there was […] great for a small car (we paid $15 a day for parking and that is cheap in Waikiki). The only thing I can say to be aware of is that Waikiki is a very active noisy city, so if you are sensitive to noise when sleeping this is not for you(hotel has louver windows) or bring ear-plugs, I am well traveled and never been in the middle of this much noise. Rooftop common room was a great, fresh, breezy view and the hotel has a special system that allows you to check in and print boarding passes for free. The internet in the room worked very good as well and was a reasonable fee. We would go back with our teenagers because there is an incredible amount of things to do on Oahu. The hotel needs a few more spaces to park when checking in. They only have 2 and they seem to be full all the time. The parking is public pay ($15 a day) which is cheaper than most hotels, but they are ticket happy, so don't park in a the garage to check in. I had to mail a copy of my proof of parking w/ my citation to the parking company when I returned […] home because when I shut the door it must have fallenl to the lower part of the dash and they obviously didn't see it. When we initally checked in they gave a us room that was not renovated although I requested it on my booking 6 months prior. I think they try and give those away first and see if people just accept staying in them. It was nasty, dirty, worn furniture and smelled, so I went down to the front desk and asked to be moved, which they did the following day. That room was nice (603) and had a small view of the ocean from the lanai. The only downfall is someone can climb from the parking area onto the lanai if they wanted (the boyfriend did it), which makes sleeping w/ the doors open a little uncomfortable. The location was perfect. About 1 block from the beach where the Surfer Dude statue is located and the Ruffage place around the corner had great smoothies and healthy sandwiches. The Me BBQ across the street had great food also. Having the little grocery downstairs was convenient.. The male front desk staff was much more pleasant and friendly than the female staff.
