Aston at the Waikiki Banyan - Honolulu

While not right on the beach our room had a magnificent view of Diamond Head as well as the ocean. Only one block to the beach. Beds were comfy. Elevators tended to be a bit slow as one was out of order so only had 3 serving 37 floors. Close to stores and shops.

There were only 2 problems we had with the room . The bathroom wasn't designed for big men and the pull out sofa sleeper was broken. I had previously asked a rollaway bed and housekeeping had to bring up a 2nd rollaway as they were single beds. I booked the hotel for my son's graduation from UH. The room was for him & his family to celebrate & enjoy Waikiki. They were disappointed with the soft sleeper (the cushions were torn and the queen sleeper was broken) The sofa could only fit 2 people sitting on it, so there's no way it's a queen sleeper (as listed in the guide) the 2 single rollaways were bigger than the sofa. The first room we were given was super run down with stained and rippled carpet, sagging mattress, & holy curtains. We had to stay here for a few nights until they were able to switch us to one of the more updated rooms. The room was clean. We learned them that many of the rooms are actually condos & if the owner hasn't done any renovations, it could be left unchanged from what looked like the early 90s. The parking was one of the most archaic i have ever experienced. $12 a day was not unreasonable but you had to pay every day or if you stayed and did not pay for 24 hours from time stamp of your entry, they would charge you double. You could pay for one week, but no more than 1 day at a time, which was very inconvenient. The hotel refused to field complaints, stating they did not own the building and had no control of it. A great hotel, nice location , close to the beach , the attractions such as Zoo and the Diamond Head (that's a bit if walking ). A quiter not so crowded part of Waikiki . Great location. Lobby to condo hotel is lovely, but may be misleading to your unit's condition. We switched rooms because the first unit was falling apart, but I need to give high marks to the hotel staff who handled it quickly, and very nicely. Space was pretty good for our family of four. Location is good, if you are looking for convenience to beach, restaurants, shopping. Waikiki is over-the-top busy with tour buses, so it's no longer the "surfer" beach culture from years past. I was disappointed in how much it's changed, but I haven't been there in 17 years and the development has been incredible -- Prada, Vuiton, all high end stores. Thank god Cheeseburger in Paradise is around the corner #for a reasonable priced meal!#. However, there are some great restaurants if you don't mind the prices -- Dukes was very good, and other national chains are along the main drag, too. My ratings reflect the schism between the condition of our first unit and the great customer service by staff. First unit was in poor condition. For second unit which we actually stayed in, it was very clean and in good condition, albeit rather out of date. We would stay here again, but I would request an updated unit in tower 1. This hotel is 1-1/2 blocks from the beach. The neighborhood is perfect if you are looking for action. There is so much to do all within walking distance. I know, I have blisters to prove it! I had a kitchen which helped to save money. The view was very nice. I was on the end of the building, Room 3014 - Tower II, so I could see Diamond Head and Waikiki […] Beach. It was a safe neighborhood and a little less crowded since it was on the end of all the hotels. You can walk to the Aquarium and the zoo. They have room service daily, but I put my "Do Not Disturb" sign out and they respected that. There is a surcharge of $10/day, but you get free DVD rental and wifi for that, also well worth it. They have a coffee shop with computers and printers, but I brought my own lap top, but I did use the printer. The lobby is an open air with a koi pond. The parking is $12/day but well worth it. You just have to remember what tower you're in and what level you parked on. There is a Catholic church at the end of the street. Starbucks a few blocks over, across from the zoo. Lots of places to shop and eat. I would stay here again. It would be nice to have a hotel right on the beach, but those hotels are in a very congested area. Read more

Older place but maintained well. Cannot swim at the beach. Parking is easy. Room is big. Pillows are small. Easy to go to North Shore and easy to go to Poipu IF you have acar. Good deal for price. Staying three nights total.

They have great service and friendly staff. The hotel still needs some more up dating. Since it is a condo, you save money because you can cook your own meals. They renovated the tennis court, playground, and pool area so it looks very nice.

Arrived at the Hotel and parked in the checking parking. It will cost you $12.00 per day or $72.00 per week. My sister stayed in another room that had an owner and that room was a very clean room with hardwood floors and marble counter tops. The Pool is on the 6th floor and you get Beach/Pool towels from the 5th floor. Water was nice and they had a jacuzzi. There is also a playground, basketball court and places to barbecue. There are also laundry facilities that will cost you $1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry. Our room had a kitchenette which is the main reason we stay here instead of elsewhere. we are able to go the the nearby grocery store and stock up on supplies and cook. we had a bunch of family over and the room was big enough to accommodate everyone. They do have WIFI. There is also a $10.00 per day resort fee which I didn't like. In all, I recommend this Condo/Hotel. Read more

Overall, this is a great place to stay near the quiet end of Waikiki. Families will like the pool and barbecue/picnic area which includes tennis courts and a putting green. The staff (Cliff) was absolutely helpful in everything we needed, be it directions, food suggestion and excursions. The room was clean and had extra pillows and sheets. The kitchen was fully equipped and open. The hotel was two blocks away from the beach and walking distance to Rainbow Drive-In and the zoo. This hotel is absolutely perfect for travelers. I went with my boyfriend and another couple for our anniversary and couldn't have been more pleased. We were literally a two-minute walk from the beach and on the 32nd floor so we had an amazing view of the ocean. As soon as we walked in we were surprised by how the big the room was an dhow accommodating […] the kitchen was. They had plates, bowls, all utensils, variety of cups (such as mugs or small 'drink' cups), coffee maker, fridge, stove, microwave, toaster, baking gear, as well as pots and pans for cooking. The bathroom was a little small, but we just took turns using it to get ready and shower. Down stairs on the lobby floor is a convenient store that literally has everything. From sunblock and lotion to A.1. Sauce and pickles. This is where we go our food for the hotel instead of going out during the day. Also, we were only a block away from where more of our excursions picked us up. I wouldn't recommend renting a car or using a taxi (except to get to and from the airport and it's a $37 cab fare by the way, very expensive) because you can walk everywhere. As for shopping and restaurant stuff, its still all in perfect walking distance. We had a variety of restaurants such as sushi, mexican food, american food, and bar food all within walking distance. So I called a few days ahead of checking in to request a renovated room since I heard that only some of the rooms here were updated. When I got there, I walked in to a room with outdated furniture, an old school television (no flat screen) and a funky looking carpet. Unfortunately, my other half is a little afraid of heights and didn't like the fact that we were on the 36th floor...so later that day we went downstairs to the lobby to request a new room. Right then and there they allowed us to check out another room that was available on a lower floor. I'm so glad my other half wanted to switch rooms!!! This room: unit 1912 on the 19th floor was fully renovated. It had a large flat screen TV, a breakfast bar area with stools, a brand new fridge with a built in ice machine and water filter, wood flooring, brand new microwave, large variety of dishes, cups, mugs, plates, bowls etc. Everything was near perfect! We were still able to have a beautiful view of the ocean here as well! Only downside was that the bed wasn't too comfortable and the bed's sheets seemed as if they were from a motel 6. Also, I wish there carpeting in the bedroom area instead of wood floor. Staff was very nice! The Expedia guy Levi at the front desk was very helpful and booked all of our activities for us. We enjoyed our stay at this condo hotel. It was an alternative from staying at a regular hotel. Was pleased that we Hotels with restaurants and bars seemed to have a lot of people traffic day and night through the lobbies. Totally urban setting with a good relaxed vibe. Although it was in walking distance from the beach, it was still a long walk.

Our room wasn't ready by the 3:00 check in time, so we had to wait for about 45 minutes. We were very happy with the space in the room and the full kitchen facilities. The king size bed wasn't very comfortable. The pull out couch was unfit to sleep on. We pulled off the mattress and put it on the floor. One of the worst hotels I've stayed at. No, I'm exaggerating - it was THE worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Walking into the room is like walking into 1977, only dirtier. Positives: Great location, kitchen great for families with kids, room is separated by sliding door partitions, close to all shopping areas and the beach.
