A short guide to Midtown

Some of NYC’s best-known landmarks are north of 14th and south of 59th—or Midtown Manhattan. Here, couples kiss atop the Empire State Building. Grand Central Station’s opal-faced clock is a famed meeting spot. While fortunes are made on Wall Street, fortunes are spent at Fifth Avenue’s shops. Other highlights include Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and the Garment and Diamond districts.

Helpful, friendly staff. Room and bathroom were spacious and spotless. Very quiet. Beds had plush linens - mattress a little soft for my taste, but that's the worst thing I can say about my stay. Would stay here again. Very convenient parking directly across the street. Hotel got me a significant parking discount.

We stayed in late November. The weather was mid 50's with mid to high 40's at night. Our room was on the top floor and hot as an Oven!!! We were told by the hotel staff that there's some kind of override that only allows heat in winter and cool in summer. They came immediately upon us calling. Shut off the "heat" valve to our room. But it was still a virtual oven in that room. We slept with the window open all four nights. It was cool, but bearable. The noise was not so bearable. The management bent over backwards to assist, and finally offered a swap room on the last night. We were comp'd breakfasts at the adjoining Ferro's restaurant...which was INCREDIBLY delicious.

Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Nov 9, 2009

The location (mid-town) was convenient. The room was clean, and had all sorts of amenities. There was an iPod dock (and radio alarm clock in one), a coffee-maker (and also tea available), a small refrigerator, a microwave, a bathroom scale, two white terry bathrobes and slippers, two umbrellas, a small safe, and even an electronic shoe-shiner. They had the usual shampoo and lotion (Neutrogena brand), but also had conditioner (which I’ve noticed a lot of hotels don’t have) and mouthwash. So, more than you usually see in a hotel room. By New York City standards, the room was definitely large, and that was a nice surprise. The bathtub was also quite large, great for a bath. The shower pressure was good. They used Neutrogena shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, which I liked—I like nothing too perfumed or fancy. The bed was extremely comfortable for me—not too soft and not too hard. Lots of pillows. There were also two nice chairs and a table, a desk and a chair, and an enormous widescreen TV on the wall. The front desk and lobby people were very helpful and pleasant. I was very happy with the hotel and would definitely come to the Kimberly again.

We had just one night in NYC and the Kimberly fit our needs initially because of location, but the staff there made the quick vist one of the best we have had. They were kind and courteous. You never felt that their concern or help was because they were looking for a tip. My son left his lap top in the car after it was parked and one of the fellows at the door retrieved without hesitation, even though it was very busy with a wedding reception party getting ready to leave. We are planning a trip back in December and I will be watching the rates at the Kimberly because if they come down to within my price range we would love to stay there again. Great front desk and door staff!!

This is a great location for seeing the sites in Manhattan. Walking distance to Fifth Avenue, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square and more. Situated on a somewhat quiet street, we had a wonderful stay. Only gripes were that the television remote control didn't work right (even after getting a replacement) and the cold water in the sink quit working. The staff quickly responded to both issues.

great hotel in convienient location. Arrived early room was not ready for us,they asked us to call back in a couple of hours ,which we did`nt mind.On our return were told we were to be upgraded to a studio and although it was usually for diabled travelers we could have the room. The room was clean, tidy and nicely furnished our only complaint was the lack of natural light in the room, we had to have all the lights on when we were in and when you woke in a morning you did`nt know what time it was and it was a bit depressing as it was so dark. However we would stay at hotel again,it was really good value for money and the restaurant connected to the hotel was great. Food and service in restaurant was excellent. The breakfast was a good start to the day.Another thing i must mention is the quality of service you get from the bellboys at this hotel, they were all great and couldnt do enough for you. Anyone thinking of booking this hotel i can honestly recommend it ,just make sure you don`t have room 2A.

I have become somewhat of an expert on NYC hotels and have stayed at most of them, since I travel to NYC at least every 2 months. The Kimberly has become one of our favorite hotels, however this past trip was not as enjoyable. The hotel had some construction going on and work was being done right outside our door, which started very early in the morning! I understand that they are installing a new elevator, which is much needed, but a lot of early morning noise. We stayed 4 sleepless nights, where we had some small problems. The toilet was not working, the door lock was a bit strange and would not lock on many occasions, and we slept one night without having it locked and also left for the day, not knowing the door was unlocked!!! Also, the phone did not work. Now, the staff was helpful when we asked for help and the valet and doormen were just so wonderful! The room was clean and very comfortable.

Despite reserving a 2 queens room, we were told that that was available when checking in. The hotel lobby was dated and looked unclean. The carpet on our floor's lobby and even in the room had bits of dirt on them thoughout our stay although they did put up a sign to apologise blaming an ongoing renovation. On the day we checked in, the balcony still has a used coke can uncleared. The front desk was uninformative on all types of questions from directions to restaurants. The bell captains were much more helpful ! The room was hugh but the bath was so small it was a joke. You cannot brush your teeth properly without closing the door. The paid internet was so slow even calling the engineer to check was no use. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience.

It's an alright hotel. The main thing about it is the convience to 30 Rock and also the size of the rooms. I had a small room - and it was larger than my apartment! The downside is that they do not renovate often so the carpet is old and dingy, the sofa is older, etc... But other than the age of the items, its great.

The hotel is very nice and I loved the location. The eastside neighborhood has all the restaurants and shopping you could want without the hustle and bustle of the westside. But, if you want to be in the thick of Broadway, the Kimberley Hotel is only a 5 or 10 minute taxi ride.

We read reviews for days before booking the Kimberly; it fell in line with all the good things we had read. We experienced none of the negatives that were written about. You just have to keep watching to get one of the good 48 hour sales for a good rate. Full price is too expensive. We got a one bedroom suite for less than our friends paid for a small hotel room at the Hilton with two double beds. The bell staff and doormen were super friendly and helpful, as was the concierge. The front desk staff were very nice, but very reserved and not outgoing. but that's ok. The room was absolutely HUGE! We had a 1 bedroom suite, huge sitting area w/couch and 2 chairs, large kitchenette, with all the dishes and silverware, fridge, micro, but the gas on stove was disconnected for safety reasons, who wants to cook anyway? Fully stocked with great to go coffee cups and 10 different kinds of herbal tea!! Disposable slippers you can take with you, bathrobes, nice toiletries, extra towels, bathroom scale, in room safe for valuables, just like being at home. The beds are soooo comfy, nice feather pillows and comforters, 2 flat screen tvs. Just beware of the hide a bed in the living room!! It is awful! Springs coming through the matress, you can't sleep on it. I actually slept on the couch itself without pulling it out and it was really comfortable. They give you lots of extra blankets and pillows so I just put them on the couch. Carpet and furniture in living room a little worn, but not bad at all. It's a little dated, used to be a condo complex. The bathroom a little small but very updated and clean clean clean. We asked for a high floor and got the 26th with a balcony and view of the Chrysler Building- neat! they do need to wash the windows, they were pretty dirty, but most hotels in nyc are like that. Great location, walked to St. Pats, Rockefeller Ctr., Radio City, Times Square. We had a great experience. The tickets they give you for discount at restaurant next door aren't great

The Kimberly has a great location, awesome square footage (we stayed in a one-bedroom suite), ample storage space, a well-appointed little kitchen/dining area, a nice restaurant, and good amenities ($10 vouchers for the restaurant, exercise priviledges at nearby health club.) Our only complaints were the extremely uncomfortable pull-out sofa (the pull-out was a feature we were looking for, but my daughter ended up sleeping on the floor beside us rather than use it the second night) and a couple of service issues (notice of problems with one tv channel and a non-working coffee maker were not resolved.) I understand that their current renovation should resolve the pull-out issue, so I'd be more than willing to stay here again, especially in the summer season when a complementary cruise on the hotel yacht is offered.

The location couldn't be more convenient for a short trip to NYC. The hotel service was great. The hotel provides a free daypass for a gym located only a few blocks away. We have stayed at the Kimberly a number of times and it is starting to not be as well maintained. The main problem was the bedding. The king in the bedroom was very soft and sagged toward the middle. The sleeper sofa would be unsleepable for adults, and was uncomfortable to our 15 year old. The A/C units were noiser than usual. If the noise was consistent, it would have been welcomed "white noise" to drown out some of the street traffic. But the noise changed, and we were forced to use the fan only (which was fine because the weather was nice). All in all, the location and the value are enough to bring us back another time, but if the bedding isn't freshened and the a/c not maintained better, it will likely be our last. Shame, because we have always liked the Kimberly.

We travel to NYC several times a year and stayed at the Kimberly for the first time because our 'usual' hotel was booked. The Kimberly was a very nice alternative. Location is great, the staff were polite and helpful, and the suites were very spacious and well-kept. The amenities were also very nice; towels, bedding, fully furnished kitchenette etc. If I have one suggestion, it would be to increase the amount of lighting in the suite. I applaud the use of energy conserving bulbs, but they do come in a brighter wattage. It was very dark at night and hard to read in the existing lighting. We have taken to traveling with our own reading lights as this is often the case in energy conscious hotels. We will definitely return if their prices remain competitive and would recommend this hotel.

The hotel is undergoing some renovations, which were a bit annoying, but overall it is a luxurious hotel in a terrific midtown east location. They are adding another elevator, which is needed. My room was very lovely, and the bathroom was spectacular, with a huge shower and a separate jacuzzi tub. There was even a small balcony off the bedroom. The staff was very helpful, and I expect I will stay at this hotel again.
