Aston at the Maui Banyan - Kihei

This was a GREAT place for the money. Only stayed 1 night however, The place was nice, close to the beach, very nice full size kitchen, 2 full baths, plenty of room for a family, couple or just friends to hang out.

The first room on the first night was sub standard, building H. Ocean view was that of the e story parkade. Pull out bed on sofa was awful! It was actually unsleepable, You could feel every spring. There were little red and black bugs in the kitchen, and bathrooms. Somehow We were able to upgrade to a two bedroom in building closest to the Beach B. […] this second suite was excellent (did not try the sofa pull out though). Road noise was a non issue. Initially I had tried to reserve a two bedroom and were told none available, not sure of how such a nice suite suddenly became available during Easter week. The good: The unit itself was clean, comfortable and well maintained & the staff was friendly and efficient. The grounds were nicely kept with beautiful vegetation and the pool and spa areas were very nice and inviting. The Bad: The kitchen was stocked with the absolute bare minimum in utensils and dinnerware, much more sparse than any other condo we […] have ever rented, requiring us to sometimes be creative to prepare meals and forcing us to run the dishwasher more often or wash dishes by hand. The lanai is long & narrow and very cramped. There is barely enough room for a small table and chairs turned parallel to the building. Yes, you could face the chairs out but you won't be able to straighten your legs nor will others be able to get around you. And tube TV’s? Really? We don’t watch much TV, but we were hoping to hook our tablet up via hdmi to watch a couple of movies. There were lots of kids, (which is okay) but no adult-only times at the pools or spas. If you are a non-smoker make sure you ask for a unit far from the designated smoking area. Our unit was about 30 feet away on the first floor. The late-night chatter and the smoke smell on windless nights were very annoying. Overall we were satisfied with our experience at the Banyan and it was worth the price, but will probably go somewhere else (and pay a little more) on our next trip to Maui. Read more

We were supposed to receive a king bed or a queen bed room. Instead we received a room with two double beds. This is not what we had in mind for our 29th wedding anniversary. Upon check in we were told that nothing else was available. The carpets in the room were badly stained and the maid barely touched anything each day. Every day we had to request […] an additional wash cloth. We did most of the cleaning ourselves each day. We spoke with another gentleman who arrived after we did and he stated that his room was so damaged that he could not stay in it. He was moved to another room. So much for no rooms being available to switch us to. The outside of the property is in a well kept condition, but the room itself was one of the worst I have ever experienced. It is apparent that no updates have been done to the hotel rooms in this property for some time. The TV was very old and was the full picture tube style. To top off the experience, one of the bi-fold closet doors came of the channel on our last day and struck me in the shoulder. Inspection of the door showed that it had been previously repaired in a most interesting manner. No doubt that this led to it coming off the track on me. There are a lot of owned units which means room selection is few and parking stalls by your unit are nonexistent. The best years of this place were a while back but it's still comfortable.

I stayed at this hotel while attending a conference on Maui because it was reasonably-priced compared to the nearby resorts (and included free self-parking in a garage, rather than tremendously expensive valet parking). The location in Kihei was convenient, and there was a nice little beach just across the street. There was one major problem I encountered that tainted my overall experience with the hotel. Namely, a water main broke on the grounds one afternoon, leaving me and other guests without running water for a couple of hours. It did not meet my expectations for a 3 star accomodation. I am sure different rooms are owned decorated and equipped differently. But our room was very tiny ( could not really fit two full beds) and very dated. All room are not equal. The staff, however, was very helpful and friendly.
