The Donatello is a nice hotel just a few blocks from the Powell Street BART station and Union Square. This is a convenient location for travel throughout the city. Hotel staff were all friendly, courteous, helpful, and prompt. The room was large with a large picture window, and nice LCD TV, a comfortable bed, and a huge sofa bed. The coffee maker, coffee, mints, refrigerator, microwave, and the wine glasses added a nice touch. The continental breakfast was simple but tasty with fruit juice, fresh fruit, pastries, and coffee. It could benefit from whole grain breads and a toaster for a healthy alternative. But, the breakfast was convenient and saved money and time from going out to eat each morning. All in all, this was a nice hotel with great staff at a fair price. I recommend the Donatello highly.

The Donatello was definitely a great deal. The room was spacious, clean, and recently renovated, the beds were comfortable, and the employees were very friendly and helpful. The free breakfast consisted of coffee/tea, pastry, and fruit. The hotel was near some scary neighborhoods, but it was conveniently located near bus and cable car stops. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good deal on a nice room in San Francisco.

The Donatello hotel is just a few blocks from Union Square. The room was larger then I had expected and the king size bed was really comfy. There were many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel as well great shopping. As for places to eat, your best bet is to ask one of the bell boys or valets for a recommendation. Take a pass on the hotel restaurant. It's overpriced and tiny. We rented a car and although we enjoyed the freedom of getting out on our own to see Napa Valley and Fishermans Wharf, I must tell you that the hotel charges with tax was $31.00 per day to park our car. Other than that is was a lovely hotel that I would gladly recommend.

We loved the hospitality, the location, the restaurant, the bar, the room... But one thing might keep us from returning, and that is the lack of room service breakfast. Especially on the weekends. That's a bit of a deal breaker, especially when the hotel advertises that they DO have room service. It should be noted somewhere that breakfast isn't included in that service.

We stayed in one night and went to the bar (piano bar?). The bartender was very nice. She was very friendly and suggested good drinks. The woman signing was a little too loud for my taste, but, we enjoyed the music and drinks. This will be our hotel of choice when we return to SF.

Difficult review to write. The hotel is in an excellent location, is very nice, clean, excellent staff, friendly and helpful. The rooms are large, clean, well decorated and have very comfortable beds. The only issue with this hotel is noise both from the neighborhood and rooms on the 5th floor that have terraces. The neighborhood noise comes from a club across Mason street and lasts until about 3 a.m. with people yelling and hollering continuously. We were unable to sleep for the two nights we were there. There is also a lot of noise from emergency service vehicles - police and rescue. As to the terrace rooms on the 5th floor, the problem comes from those guests sitting on the terrace and drinking and being loud right below our window on the 6th floor. One night this continued until 5 a.m. and they could be clearly heard in our room with the windows closed and curtains drawn. Choose your room location carefully. I spoke to the hotel manager and Hotels.com and they arranged an adjustment to our bill which was excellent service on their part.

The Donatello is located just one block from San Francisco's Union Square and it's easy to get around. The staff treated us like royalty and we felt very comfortable and welcomed. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever experienced in a hotel. The room was comfortable and attractive and the windows opened, which I appreciate for temperature control. However, the street below was very noisy (not the hotel's fault!) with city sounds. There is supposedly a safe in every guest room, but we never found ours. The continental breakfast is adequate--nothing special. It's served in the lovely club lounge on the top floor. The room rate includes access to a gym and hot tub. Valet parking is available at an extra charge. Overall a very nice experience at a reasonable price for that location.

You won't be able to find a cheaper hotel in SF for the room size that you get here. Make sure to request a room which has access to the outside terrace on the 5th floor. If you are looking for 5-star service, you've come to the wrong hotel. You can find a better breakfast at a Holiday Inn, but you would have paid more for the room. So all in all, great stay for a family of 4 (pull out couch) Or even three close adult friends. Great central location, just a couple of blocks away from the great shops of Union Square, and a quick taxi cab ride to all other SF "must see" areas. Highly recommend!
