"Bait & Switch"
The hotel was nice in the sense that it was close to the beach. The "downer" was that just as soon as I checked in, I was sent over to the Consierge Desk where a woman wanted to make an appointment for my wife and I to sit through a 90-minute sales pitch about their "vacation club" .... which sounded a LOT like an old fashioned time-share program. I […] did not attend that presentation and the for the next three days I must have gotten at least four voicemail messages from them on the telephone located in our room. After all ... I came down there to enjoy myself and NOT to listen to any sales pitches. Besides ... I happen to be a Financial Advisor and in my professional opinion a person is better off putting their money into a Mutual Fund as opposed to "investing" it in a time-share. With a Mutual Fund you get Dividends, Capital Gains ... and when you are ready to travel, simply withdraw whatever you cash may need in order to pay for your vacation. After all, cash is good ANYWHERE in the world !!!!! Over the past 30 years I have seen too many time-shares / vacation clubs go completely bust, cease to exist and the folks who bought into it lost ever dime that they put into it. "Everything was average until checkout"
On our last day. Valet pulled our vehicle around and damaged our vehicle. They staff was horrible in there handling of the situation. Following up after returning home the customer service got even worse and we were hung up on several times. They refused to take responsibility. The head valet who was working eventually called me back several days later […] to tell me it was already broken and even took the conversation to racist before hanging up on me. We are talking about just $176 worth of damage, nothing in comparison to the money we spent at resort including $75 in Valet parking fees. "Good resort with private beach"
I just got back from a 5-day stay at the Newport and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I booked a regular run-of-the-mill hotel room, but I was upgraded to a suite that was on the first floor that had access to the pool from its balcony; I was not charged for the upgrade which was a pleasant surprise. The room was clean and well-maintained. Air conditioning […] worked great. The pool/beach was clean and has a Tiki Bar with flat-screen TV's; the drinks are pretty over-priced but they do have a specialty drink deals each night which are reasonable. Kitchen 305 is a great restaurant. I recommend getting a flyer from the concierge desk each morning that shows dinner deals and happy hour information. Most nights, we stayed on the resort and just ate dinner at Kitchen 305 because the deals were so good. We also spent 2 hours at a time-share promotional and got a $100 voucher to Kitchen 305. The concierge was not very helpful with getting a cab or other modes of transportation. The cabs are super-expensive, especially if you plan on traveling to South Beach. I used Uber, which saved about $15 dollars per trip ( eg. airport, Sun Life Stadium). Across the street is a great steak-place called The Porterhouse. I would recommend that place; great environment, live music, and 3 for 1 happy hour most nights. It's a great deal. Firstly, hotel personnel are cordial, and competent in their areas of responsibility.There is some crowded confusion at checkout/checkin time in the entrance, with respect to the parking situation, but in fairness, much of this is due to guests selfishness, and lack of decorum and concern for other people, as is typical of today's culture. Hotel has great location for shopping at Aventura mall. Definitely family resort with little children and dogs everywhere. There's ongoing renovation on the 6th floor - which was extremely annoying with tools and workmen being noisy. Room had a great view over pool and ocean. "this hotel does not honor advance reservations."
We had reserved, and paid for, a room overlooking the ocean a couple of months in advance of our arrival. Upon arrival (at 6 p.m. that day)we were informed that the hotel had overbooked that type of room and it wasn't available. We would have to accept a room that did not view the ocean or have a balcony for the first two nights of our three night stay. […] Then we could move to the type of room that we had reserved and paid for. We were given a $25 per day room credit to be used at the hotel. What a generous compensation policy!!!! Are you kidding me? The rest of our stay was unremarkable. The breakfast buffet was mediocre at best and all the hot dishes were not even warm - they were cold. The toaster that the guests got to operate did not work correctly on two of the three mornings we were there. The rooms were very clean, however. But the wood trim in the rooms was appearing to have had some wood rot or water damage at some time in the past. Lots of paint used to cover that stuff up. Oh, and one last point on the reservations honoring situation - as we were checking out, some new arrivals were trying to check in around noon and were told that the entire hotel had been booked and they would have to go to another hotel. I booked my vacation in February, so I never thought that I would run into problems with accomodations. Well I arrived as scheduled on July 19th, and was informed by the front desk that there was problems with the rooms so I would be staying at the Marena's down the street overnight. I was given cash to pay for my stay and the cab ride to the other […] hotel and that I would be given vouchers for breakfast and lunch for the entire week due to the mishap. The next morning I was to return to Newport at 11:00am, upon arrival the person expediting my accomodations was the Director of the front desk and she advised that she wanted to ensure that I received one of the better rooms so that I should go and have breakfast and return to the desk afterwards. Well, after breakfast my husband and I toured the hotel, so as to give them more than enough time to find a room for us. When we returned to the desk, the Director had found a room for us and asked us to wait a few minutes until it was cleaned. We waited again but for at least 45 minutes, I decided to view the room first without our luggage just in case the room was not to our liking. We proceeded to the room to find that it had not been touched, it was an oceanview which was an upgrade since I had booked a standard room with partial view of the ocean. First impression as we drove up was fabulous. The facade of the hotel is regal and tropical with the palm tree columns. Then the front desk with Hector at the helm was magnificent. The cabana rental for the beach for the day is well worth it, and the room service was speedy and efficient.The workers for the beach side amenities were also very efficient and speedy to please. I would have liked a cigar shop and a REAL ESPRESSO Cuban style on site but you can't have everything. The main restaurant was beautiful and ALL the workers were great and ready to please. We were in town one night and wanted to be close to South Beach, this hotel came up so I thought it was closer than it actually was. We had to catch a cruise at the port the following day so wanted something reasonably priced but near the beach. The hotel is older and the rooms needed a little additional TLC and cleaning, however the staff was wonderful! […] I needed some water around 10pm and the store in the hotel was closed. The concierge said that she would go open the store and get me some. When she was not able to, she had some sent up free of charge for me. I tried to give her a tip and she refused to take it. "Worst vacation hotel experience yet!!"
Hotel personnel lack hospitality. At our arrival, the front desk lady was irritated and in a bad mood. My wife and I consider that a business of hospitality should be manage in such way. First impression was awful. I made a couple of questions at time of check in, for example, additional hotel fees that were not provided to us unless they were on small […] print (if you know what I mean). We ended it up paying additional parking per day, some hotel fees per day (that I was told at the time of check in did not apply to us), and other per day taxes. Believe my surprise when I am about to check out and the front desk guy is charging my account with several hundred in addition to the price originally paid. I certainly, tried to make a point to the front desk gentleman since I did understood the parking charge was legit, but everything else was not. The conversation got heated, and the hotel personnel threat to call the police on my wife and I. In my business I travel a lot, and stay in many hotels for a living, the fact that these people disrespected my wife and I during our first anniversary get away should be look upon. We were boarded on the second day of our stay to join a vacation system service at the hotel. We were given a courtesy coupon to eat at the hotel restaurant for the time to listen to their proposal, however, I felt that the whole situation was very inappropriate.
