This hotel is a great deal for the price. You get what in essence is an apartment with a full kitchen area. The gym is well-rounded with machines and free weights. The negatives were as follows: 1) Valet parking was mandatory for non-residents (they have renters living there). I like being able to come and go without waiting for my car and constantly having to tip people. 2) Location: The hotel is in the business district, so there is very little night life nearby (i.e., in walking distance). 3) business center: It is small and you do not have a printer, although the staff will print your boarding pass, etc.

A comfortable place to do lenghty or short stays, with a washer and dryer and a nice kitchen. Short walk to downtown Miami. The neighborhood is great for scenery and jogging.

We got such an amazing rate that I was a little worried about what we were getting into. We were going on a cruise and only needed to stay one night before and after the cruise. When we got there, we were shocked! It is actually a building of condos, which I think, are privately owned. The building and lobby is very nice. The staff was VERY helpful. When we got into our room, we were so surprised that instead of the rinky-dink room we were expecting, we got a condo!! Full kitchen, living & dining room, large bathroom, bedroom and even a washer and dryer. The first night we decided to do laundry, but the dryer wouldn't actually dry our clothes. We had to take a garbage bag of damp clothes onto the ship. The other night we stayed in a different unit, and it worked just fine. My only complaint about our experience was the cleanliness. Most things were clean. The bedroom closets were REALLY dusty (both units) and there were lots of hairs in the dryers. That was gross. Having to clean people's hairs. The dryer also left rust stains on two of my white items. OVERALL, for the money and the amount of space you get, we were very impressed with the Fortune House.

Located in financial district (great for business trips, but not the quality). I was told I owed money for the valet parking when we didn't even have a car (settled, incorrectly charged to wrong room). Only pro to this hotel was the beautiful view from our room (obviously the other side is not a view at all, i think it was a view of a garage?) Definitely need a car, we did not rent one, though it is a 2 minute walk to the local metro (which was also ghetto). The hotel is also located a few blocks from the ghettos (the taxi took us thru the ghettos to get to the hotel).

This is one of those condos that didn't sell--and now it's a hotel, of sorts. We had a two bedroom/two bath apartment, kind of pokey, with cheap furnishings (bed's a killer, IMHO) but a lovely view of the water and the super-luxurious hotel next door. There is no maid service. But they did bring us towels, unasked, so that was nice of them. Valet parking is a bother; add a tip to the valet everytime you want to take your car out, plus the $20 per night fee, but the hotel is still a bargain. Our deal came with breakfast for two (the third person had to pay). Not a great breakfast, but sufficient. The location was superb for our needs--we had things to do downtown, on Miami Beach, 8th Street, in Coral Gables and South Miami--so it all worked out well for us. I would recommend this hotel/condo, but with caveats mentioned above. We missed not being in a proper hotel with all the regular hotel amenities.

Our unit was the only one of the 4 that had carpeting (the others' had tile). The carpeting was so dirty that our feet turned black from walking on it. The bathrooms had hair in the tub. Our room was entirely adequate. I think of it as being able to stay in your Great Aunt's Florida winter condo, instead of having to pay top dollar for at a nearby hotel. Since this is a condo set-up, and not a typical hotel, we were not surprised to find that the square footage was greater than usual, but the creature comforts were a bit less. The fixtures were old, there was only one TV for the 2 rooms and the furniture didn't match. But, the price was also nice. So, on balance, not bad at all.

I stayed at the Fortune House for one evening while on a business trip. The hotel offers an excellent location off Brickell Ave, a lovely exterior, and was a great value overall. My room was spacious and clean but the interior was rather dated. There was a small patio that looked down on the pool and a parking garage, and you could just see the ocean off to the south between two buildings. The staff at the Fortune House was friendly, although they were extremely slow at check in/check out. I did not have the occasion to order room service or call the front desk for anything. I felt dirty and unfomfortable showering there. The bed was loud and creeked terribly each time I changed my sleeping position. The front desk lady could not have been colder or more rude in my opinion. Many places advertise that check in time is 3:00pm or even later but even those places let you slide and you can often check in around 1:00 or 2:00pm, not this place.
