The Staff was nice but the front desk system was SLOW. They put a $100 hold on your Credit Card, my guess is because they give you a key fob (used for the elevator) and physical key's to enter your room. The King Sized bed was on a sheet of plywood, I could feel the springs through the mattress. The tiles in the bathroom were visibly cracked though still in place. "Not quite what we expected"
We were promised a city view, but the view turned out to be a close-up of the high rise next to us and their parking garage. If we went out on the balcony we could see a little sliver of the city and the other way a sliver of the bay. The room turned out to be a suite, which was nice. While the hotel is a nice property the staff needs some serious training especially the "room service". I have booked this hotel for my parents for the NY eve and wanted to order them dinner and champagne for the special NY night. Sending amenities to somebody's room should be a very simple and straight forward process for anybody in hospitality industry. […] Not for the fortune house room service staff. The gentleman that answer the phone insisted that i need the room number to send amenities. When i told him that i am not a guest in the hotel and ordering for my parents that are staying there he simply hang up on me. Second call and a similar rude and uncalled aggressive response. At any given time i have kept the conversation pleasant and tried to find a solution. Maybe at Fortune House is customary to give away the room number to people that call in ... After another call to the front desk a very nice and helpful lady answered and explained me the room service is closed for the day ( 6 PM) and missed the chance to treat my parents with a nice dinner. We were a little skeptical when booking this hotel but it turned out to be a great choice. A colleague and I were traveling on business and this was close to the port. We booked a 2 bedroom and it was a true 2 bed 2 bath with small living room and kitchen. The area is great and surrounded by very expensive hotels. "A Pretty Good Hotel"
This is the second time I stayed here and will definitely stay here again. Nice clean rooms, staff is pretty friendly, for the most part, except for the guy cleaning the walkway with a leaf blower while I was trying to eat my breakfast outside. How can you mess up a burger? Well, it was frozen, but it must have been ancient. Not good. Ordered a chocolate shake and the dude started making it by putting ice, water and chocolate syrup in the blender. When I said it's supposed to be made with ice cream he looked at me like I was from another planet and said he would have to thaw some out. What? I so wanted to show him what magic can pop out of that blender with FROZEN ice cream, milk and chocolate syrup but I was in a hurry to get back to my room to eat that burger. Fortune House is a couple miles from Bay Side Market, which is where we always head when visiting. There is a free trolly that runs every 15 minutes a half block away, which works well. One has to be aware that these are apartments not hotel rooms. As an apartment, it was nicely staged. Had no problems with check in or check out as everyone at lobby desk was attentive. Free breakfast is limited to one choice, but it is fresh and abundant. Only complaint is price of parking. As a guest it is $20 a day, if you are not a guest but a visitor […] then it is $7 a day. "CLEAN AND A GOOD PRICE"
So when I arrived I went in the wrong way with my truck and tyhey made me move it. I was the only vehicle there so as if that really mattered. There was an arrow on one side of the entrance but not on the other. I joked with them how many times a day they have to get people to move when $1.00 of paint would solve the issue. I don't think the valet understood […] a word I said. The whole staff was young and seemed to be very inexperienced. After I checked in there was no instructions on getting my bags from my vehicle. The girl at the front desk didn't seem to speak great English. The bellman came but would not relinquish the valet cart. Said it was the only one they had. I did most of the heavy lifting, including pushing the cart. That being said, if you don't require a lot of assistance, the room was very clean and nicely decorated. However, the adjacent balcony outside the window of my room was littered with trash. I took a photo but couldn't find anyone who looked like they were in charge to show them. The TV in the bedroom wouldn't come on and the ice dispenser in the fridge wouldn't work. If I had stayed more than one night, I'm sure this could have been resolved. "Horrible Guest Service"
The room itself was great, I had a perfect view of the bay area. But when it comes down to the service of the staff working at the hotel, they are horrible. I valeted my car, and when I come back to get it the next day, my tire was popped. There were skid marks into the parking space they had my car parked in, which led directly underneath my tire. […] They assumed no responsibility, and when I went to speak with the hotel management about the issue, Samira (the hotel manager) ran me in circles. She said that I needed to speak with the valet service, who in turn told me to speak to the hotel management. I left for lunch in a cab and asked them to call me and they never called. I am STILL trying to get in contact with the hotel owner and management of the valet service, left multiple messages, and still have not received a call back. On top of this issue, we called the front desk for extra blankets while we were staying and they told us that we could come down stairs to pick up the blanket. "Excellent Hotel location"
The bathroom room locked itself from the inside and outside at all times when closing the door. Maintenance was called repetidly but noone showed up. I was afraid not to be able to lock myself out if the bathroom if by any chance the door closed while in the shower. The day of our departure, leaving the hotel at 3 AM to catch a flight, the door closed […] accidentally and we had a very hard time getting of personal toiletries. Reception desk staff was not effective at fixing the problem during the entire lenght of our stay. The room was not as clean as expected. We have stayed at this hotel previously with no complaints in this area. We like to stay at this hotel because it has an excellent downtown location, close to good restaurants and in walking distance to the metro mover, metro rail. We believe a little bit of effort in improving the hotel facilities and maintenance will go a great length in making this extended hotel stay one of the best rated in Miami. "ALWAYS READ the fine print."
Even though Expedia will offer "Free Cancellation", the hotel might not. In my case, I had an emergency and the hotel would still charge me for the room. When I eventually made it late to the hotel, they did not want to provide a room even though THEY CHARGED ME FOR IT. I celebrated my 21st Birthday at this hotel and it was a great experience. The room was a great size and I was surprised at how much space was in the room. The rooms had big closets and the views of downtown and south beach were perfect! The only downside to the hotel is te front desk. The people at the front desk move very slow an it took me almost […] 45minutes to check in. The front desk also doesn't have simple things that you might need for your stay. Also the phone in our room didn't work... So to reach the front desk I had to call from my cell phone. The valley however was perfect. My favorite part if my stay was how fast valley worked! "What You See Is Not What You Get."
This stay started out being one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The rooms that I was offered didn't look anything like the pictures advertised. I was shown 2 studios that was equally as bad. They had old bubble back televisons and the furniture was very damaged. Hotel was in great location with great waterfront views if on higher floor. We stayed for one night prior to a cruise so we were not too fussy. I dont think I would want to stay here long term.
