Metro Hotel Sydney Central - Haymarket

We stumbled across this hotel last year on an overnight trip to Sydney and were so impressed we always go back if it's available. It's a brilliant location, close to public transport and a reasonable walking distance to all the major attractions. Very clean hotel and the staff have always been fantastic to us, despite us not having the appearance one […] might expect of guests in such a hotel ( we often look like scrappy backpackers after a day or travel or running round city) we have never been treated differently. Rooms are. Decent size too and one thing I love is that when you shower you get continuous hot water. Might not sound like much but after also staying at the Mecure and having to move in and out of the water to not get burnt it's something I appreciate. Only downside is no on site parking. The front desk staff were very accomodating. I was able to store my luggage with no problems and get a late check-out. The woman who cleaned my room was very sweet and even brought me an item I left in the room as I was checking out. I was very impressed with the service at this hotel.

Hotel was nice but the room was pretty sparse. There was an area by the window for a table and/or chair but nothing there. The only place to sit was the bed. Also, the carpet was full of stains and the pool area was closed but this was never mentioned prior to booking. Updating the rooms would be a good idea. My room location was noisy at night. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful though and room cleanliness was ok. I found the facilities dated though despite being told I was in a refurb'd room. Location was convenient with it being in the centre of the city, close to everything...train, harbour etc.

Good location to explore Sydney. Good access to trains and airport. Lower cost accommodation option for Sydney. Minor road noise. Room had a crack in the toilet bowl and could do with a new bed as springs were soft. Overall tidy and comfortable.

We had a redecorated Superior Queen room on 12th floor & felt it was done up really nice in neutral tones. Staff were excellent & very obliging to any request we made. Pool was nice although a spa would have been a bonus. Our bed while comfortable enough was starting to get to the stage of replacement as you rolled together a bit but we liked the fact […] that this Hotel was spending money to spruce the place up so well done. On a negative for us, we didn't like the fact that the sound on the Tv would not turn up very loud as we are both hard of hearing, We understand that this would be for the comfort of people either side of us but if we can't hear it, there was no point in having it on. Also while the air con had controls that allowed yot to control temp & a fan, it took forever for it to make a difference and it was only able to be on when in the room because the entry card is inserted into the slot to make it go so when we went out had to take card with us to get back in therefore air con only worked when present. Luckily room wasn't on sunny side of city so wasn't too much of a problem. All in all a comfortable stay and we would stay there again. Only a few hundred meters to Central Train Station and easily seen from the Pitt Street exit so easy to find. George Street very close for free 555 bus as well. Read more

Room was fine. Although a couple of days in our 5 day stay we were annoyed that our room wasn't cleaned fully. Had issues with parking meter. The hotel kindly rectified this.

The hotel was in a a handy location to all the main sights via Light Rail, Bus, Trains and Monorail (although the latter will be discontinued from June 2013, so get in there and take a ride before it closes down). We could easily walk to the World Centre, Town Hall, QVB etc. We recommend getting a Light rail pass for day for A$9 so you can hop on/off […] at its various locations or get a multi-day pass costing $22 which gives you access to Light Rail, Ferry, Bus and Rail services. Room advertised as superior but far from it. Bathroom had cracked shower glass and toilet squeezed into a space only big enough for the systern to fit. Too small. Staff were good and place ideally placed in CBD and was clean. Would look elsewhere for a better place for similar money.

The minute I spoke to their staff at the reception I did not feel welcome at all. The airconditioning in the hotel was not cool enough (18 degree is the minimum) and has a really unpleasant smell on Level 3 outside my room. The bed was not comfy at all as it has lost its springs and you can see it's sinking in the middle. The cleaners weren't that good […] as well because everyday there was something that they did not replace (ie, on my day 2, they did not put back my pillow onto my bed and I found it behind the curtains; day 3, they forgot to replace clean face towels; day 4, they did not replace more coffee satchels as we ran out). I did not bother to complain or make a request as I personally feel these are the basic things that the hotel staffs are required to do. I will not go back to this hotel again. Read more

Loved how close it was to central station and the pub next door, was comfortable and affordable so in all pretty happy, was some mould in the shower and stains on the carpets but still happy with our experience
