Doormen were awesome! Front desk staff very friendly and accommodating. Bar/restaurant staff Top Shelf! Great place to stay in downtown Memphis, rooftop patio with great view of the Mississippi River. Will stay there again and again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel room was not big as I expected. Poor customer service. Called down to get some towels and waited for an hour. Walked down to the lobby area to get the towels and the lady said someone would bring them up and had to wait another 20 minutes. No one stated anything about the $10.95 charge extra until I was billed the next day after staying in the […] room. Tried to talk to the manager on duty about it and she continued to call me a liar. Worst experience at a hotel that I have had and will never stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Be prepared for service fees and tip for service"
The hotel is nice and the staff is relentlessly upbeat. The rooms seem a tad on the small side compared to other luxury hotels we have stayed in, but they are well-appointed. However, the system under which it runs will keep us from staying again. Immediately upon arrival, we were informed at the desk that we would be charged an additional $10.95 per […] night "service fee." The clerk told us, "all our guests pay this," but it instantly added 5% to our already-settled Expedia tab (not at the lowest room rate, either) for the three-night stay. We were then asked if we would like to have valet service - for an additional $25 fee. When we needed ice, the only way to get it is in a small bag brought up by staff, and the staffer bringing it of course angles for a tip for performing a basic service unobtainable in any other way. While their demeanor was always pleasant, once the doormen saw that we had brought our own bags in, our door opening services were very spotty at best. The friendliest staff were housekeepers, who did not require tips for service. I do tip for excellent services rendered, but we began to feel that the system was set up to extract max dollars, a feeling we have not have at other luxury properties. If dollars did not come, service was curtailed, except for the housekeeping staff. This hotel would be best for business expense account travellers and the extremely well-heeled. For a pleasure stay like ours, I expected more service inclusiveness in the price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Heart of Downtown"
The Hotel staff was very courteous. The room was clean and after being out all evening, our beds were turned down upon our return. The hotel was within walking distance of Beale street. I would recommend this hotel to others. Even when I called down for my car, they always answered the phone by my name. "Nice hotel with hidden fees"
Hotel staff was very friendly. They added a $10.95 per day "service charge" to the bill. Valet parking is a little steep also at $23 a day. Probably would not stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"IT WAS OK"
The room was very small. Nice sized bathroom. Clean, nice and new. Over priced food and parking. Also there are "extra fees" for use of stuff in the building. I probably would not stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best in Memphis"
Great hotel. Best hotel in downtown Memphis hands down. We will only stay at the Madison when in Memphis from now on. Modern, clean, friendly staff, turn down service and much more. I have stayed all over the city of Memphis over my lifetime and in all of the nicer downtown hotels and by far the Madison is at the top of the pyramid.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was very nice. We stayed in a King Suite. The room was a little pricey for what we got, but we did enjoy our stay there. The staff was great and very helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not sure if I'll stay again"
We were checked into a room that had other people in it. Very unsafe. Took 45to minutes to get checked and get or car. Rooms were awesome. Room service took 50 minutes to get two drinks from the bar to our room. This isn't good if you pay $$$ for a room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Would stay here again."
Beautiful hotel. Extremely friendly staff. My first time in Memphis and the staff was very helpful in pointing me in the right direction of some delicious BBQ and nightlife. The bartender, Orlando, was super nice and funny. We could've stayed at his bar all night chatting it up with him!Genuine Expedia guest review
My brief stay at The Madison was enjoyable. The hotel was clean and artfully furnished, the staff was courteous and helpful, and they had a great selection of amenities, even though I did not get the chance to partake in all of them. My only gripe was how small the room was for the price I paid, but I got over that quickly.Genuine Expedia guest review

Location, very friendly staff, hotel is beautiful!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My boyfriend and I recently took a rather lengthy road trip and this was the final hotel we stayed in, and we wish we could have stayed here the entire time. Granted, it was a splurge night for us. The valet was awesome. The front desk was very informative upon check in. The lobby was clean, the elevator ran smooth and really quick considering that […] it's a 16 story building! We didn't get there until around 9pm, and the turn down service already happened. We walked in to a lit room with the radio on, the bed turned down with chocolates on the pillows :) They were hosting a roof top event with a band, drinks, and small plates that was no cover for hotel guests. It's a beautiful view up there! Our room had a separate shower and tub. The tub was awesomely deep! Which was helpful for soaking since we walked 37 miles in 6 days. Oh, and the water pressure in the shower was perfect. I have long hair and was having a hard time washing and rinsing it at all the other places we stayed at. The mini-fridge was stocked with goodies, which meant no room for anything we wanted to add to it, but I guess they figure if you're willing to drop that kind of money for a room that you wouldn't be the type to bring your own drinks and food :) oh well! "Like a vacation!!!"
Stayed at the Madison after my 35th Class Reunion. It was such a pleasant surprise. I can't wait for excuse to stay again. The only problem was being charged for breakfast and we didn't eat and valet parking was a too high.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Our Stay at the Madison"
The majority of the staff especially the hotel manager provided excellent service. The hotel is modern and clean but more on the expensive side. If you don't mind spending a few extra dollars the Madison is a great hotel choice.Genuine Expedia guest review
Friendly staff, prompt responses to requests, a great atmosphere with roof top views second to none, it is now our Memphis hotel of choice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The Madison is a beautifully restored, historic hotel in a great location in downtown Memphis, within walking distance of several very nice restaurants, the trolley, Beale Street, the Peabody, and the Orpheum, to name a few. There is a rooftop bar area with a spectacular view of the city and a very nice heated pool in the basement. The staff was extremely […] friendly, helpful, and courteous, from the valet parkers to the bellmen to the kitchen staff to the administrative staff. They answered any questions we had, not only about the hotel but about the city of Memphis as well! We loved the grand piano in the lobby, and our daughters, both pianists, were encouraged to perform on it. The ONLY negative thing was the sullen attitude of the receptionist at the front desk, Clayton. However, everything else was top-notch, and I would certainly recommend this hotel to others looking for a luxurious, full-service hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The Best in Memphis"
When we travel to Memphis we will always stay at The Madison.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean and comfortable"
This hotel offered clean comfortable rooms. The decor was a bit more upscale than your average hotel, although it wouldn't hurt to restretch the carpet. This hotel also offers great views of the river and city from it's rooftop. The desk representatives were very nice. The valet service was hit or miss. It was great one day and horrible the next. Definitely […] an area that can be improved on. There is a restaurant attached called the 83, which is another possible place for improvement. I sat at the bar, making the 4th person total, and the two bar employees never asked for my order or even said hello. I left after being ignored for 7 minutes. "Very convenient for Memphis in May"
Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable and clean. Well situated near Beale Street and surrounding landmarks. Rooms are small, as to be expected with an old hotel. But everything is modern and well-kept. More charm than the nearby chain hotels, for basically the same price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"An unexpectedly amazing experience in Memphis"
Our goal was simple: stay in a classic hotel with extensive service and enjoy the Blues on Beale Street for my birthday. What we ended up with was so much more. I guess we might have learned how incredible this hotel is if we researched a bit more....the chef is phenomenal...he came out and greeted us and never failed to deliver. The pickiest foodie […] / connoisseur would be impressed by the fine delicacies they create and serve. Otherwise, we enjoyed true Southern Hospitality...the doormen, valets, desk staff were all so incredibly helpful and pleasant that they took "full service" to the next level. Our room was classy, well-appointed and stocked and we had a quiet night's sleep with an amazing view of Memphis and the Mississippi. One of America's hidden treasures lies in Memphis...check out the Madison if you're ever so fortunate. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"brown water... ugg!"
I selected this hotel because it was the most expensive, so I thought it would be a luxury hotel. This was the smallest room I've ever stayed in, had one double bed, and a poor view. They also added an extra $11 per day charge for internet & roof access... but the roof was closed due to a private party. But the worst thing was seeing brown water come […] out of the faucets. Upon arrival they warned me of this but they said "just let the water run a few seconds to clear up"... wrong! I did like the staff and valet parking (for $26/day extra). No, I will not stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wouldn't Stay Here Again"
Overall I was dissatisfied with the accommodations provided by this hotel. To highlight just a few issues, neither of our two rooms were provided maid service cleaning for our two-night stay, and no explanation was given. Additionally, we found the complimentary Continental Breakfast worth precisely what we paid for it (nothing). Both mornings, there […] were inadequate bowls, coffee mugs, silverware and other dinnerware, as well as inadequate food and seating. We were forced to wait for a prolonged period to serve ourselves the meager breakfast, and were forced to stand while eating. Finally, the concierge directed us to a restaurant that was not open for lunch on the day we requested (a Saturday), and failed to direct us to the best restaurants in the area for evening dining in an effort to get us to eat at the hotel's restaurant. Not sure if this was a financially lucrative tactic on her part, but it occurs to us that perhaps it was. Not first class by along shot--I recommend the Peabody. "Madison Hotel - Hidden Fees?"
When I checked in, I had to initial a form like you usually do, but it included a $10.50 service fee. When I inquired about it, I was told it was for the use of the amenities such as internet, gym, breakfast, etc. Of course, it's only $10 so you pay it, but it's really kind of false advertising for a price per night, and bad on the hotel for really […] being tricky. After paying $23 for valet, I was grumbling a little bit. The rooms are small but appropriate for an old place -- the bed was cheap, hard, and pretty uncomfortable and the wireless internet I paid for was slow. Nicely decorated and the lobby was nice. My last thing was the lack of coffee pot -- what on earth?? Who doesn't provide a coffee maker!!!! I inquired, and they said one was not available but I could pay for one to be brought up instead. My "free" breakfast the next morning was a selection of bagels/toast, fruit, and coffee. If you want meat, eggs or something more it was not there. Just know it's limited. The rooftop has a nice view of the river, and the employees were pleasant, but I felt the amenities and service were lacking where most hotels don't. I don't recommend the Madison due to this -- pay a little extra and stay at the Peabody, because you will anyway! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice Hotel, Irritating Service"
The building is very nice, the rooms are incredible. The service on the other hand was absolutely awful. When I checked in, the clerk at the front desk said it would be ok to park at the parking garage next door. The whole time he acted annoyed with us and avoided eye contact. He neglected to mention that the parking garage was closed Saturdays until […] 5pm. Unfortunately I didn't realize this until I tried to leave Saturday morning. It caused a giant hump in our weekend since Saturday was our only full day in the city, and half of it was disrupted due to rude, incorrect information. When we got back to the hotel, at 4:30pm that day, we expected a little bit of time in the room. However, we were kicked from the room because they were cleaning it still. But when we went up to the room after they were done 'cleaning' there was nothing different. The bed was made and the towels were taken away, but no new towels were replaced. Later on, I retrieved my car from the parking garage, ran around and returned to the hotel. This time I used their valet service. I didn't realize until at checkout that this service was twenty three dollars. That's expected for a hotel like this. But what is not expected is that when we came back from walking to dinner down the street, my car was still parked out front with the lights on still. This was an hour and a half after I left it with the valet. Lastly, and arguably most irritating is the elevator situation. There's only two elevators in the entire hotel. It took five to ten minutes of waiting each time you wanted to go upstairs or downstairs. Then when the elevator finally opens, it was never a guest exiting. All in all, I really enjoyed the building and the room, but I will never return or recommend this to anyone. I get better service at the Comfort Inn. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Disgusted! And, terribly disappointed!"
We tried to check into our room at 4 p.m., but the room was not ready. The lobby was literally full of other people waiting on their rooms also. We were told it would be about 30 minutes, etc. Well, an hour later, we still did not have a room. We called at 7 and were told it was not ready and they had no idea when it would be ready. We went to retrieve […] our luggage and demand a credit. Now, you must know that I had been up since 4:30 a.m.! When we got back to the hotel about 7:30, we were told it would be ten more minutes, etc., and we said absolutely not. Then, suddenly, we were upgraded to a junior suite and got a room about 8 p.m. They offered us complimentary drinks, fresh baked cookies, etc., but all anyone of us wanted was to check into our expensive rooms at this boutique hotel. Then, when we called down the next morning for our car, we were told it would be about 10 minutes. Well, of course, when we got down and checked out it was about 20-30 minutes before we actually got our vehicle. This hotel seemed to be surprised to have guests. Obviously, they aren't used to people checking in, checking out, parking cars, retrieving cars, etc. We have stayed at this hotel before but never, ever again. I have enjoyed staying in some of the nicest hotels in the country as well as some of the worst, and as far as customer service is concerned this hotel ranks with the worst. Honestly, I think The Madison Hotel in Memphis should refund every single penny of our money! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice place to stay"
We enjoyed our stay at the Madison. It was very clean and upscale but I would not call it a "luxury" hotel. The staff was friendly and attentive.
