"Definition of no-frills"
This is an older hotel, kept up to a bare minimum. The staff was friendly enough, and the location is great, but the bed was stiff, the shower weak, and the room itself hilariously tiny. Still, a clean and simple place to sleep, and one that will hopefully inspire you to spend more time out and about in the wonderful city.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Pros: Perfectly located. Good value for the money Cons: Room are not very big or clean, I really enjoyed my stay, but if you expect a 5 stars hotel from it you'll be disappointed.Genuine Expedia guest review
Charming area, easy to get aroundGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, okay hotel for a short stay.."
Friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are a bit outdated, pictures of the rooms looked nicer than the real deal (at least my room was a bit old and the floors were squeaky). Walls were very thin. On the positive: clean bed sheets and towels, great location (close to union square).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Near convention center."
The room was old and poorly kept up. The hot water heat made noise all night. The noise from other rooms and outside was disrupting. The only good was a manager who switched us to a room with no outside window that enabled my wife to sleep.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Just What I Wanted"
The Grant Plaza isn't elegant - it's pretty dated, in fact. But I've stayed before as it suits my needs. You can't beat the location and the rooms was clean and perfectly fine for what I wanted - Chinatown right there, walking distance to Union Square, plus some very cool cafes and restaurants nearby. One thing - there is no parking in a city where […] parking is difficult, but there are garages nearby. I've stayed there before and will stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Friendly Staff/ Most Convenient Location"
In the popular part of Chinatown where the tourists go, a 5 minute walk to the big department stores on Union Square and centrally oriented; This hotel is clean with extremely helpful and friendly people working there. I stayed for several days with my mother in law, who just came over from China, and showed her around San Francisco before bringing […] her to our home in NM. I'm grateful to the hotel staff for translating language for the both of us, as my wife wasn't able to come on the trip. I look forward to staying there in the future! "Old and needs a lot of work"
The shower clogged up while we showered. The elevator needs work. The blow dryer over heated while I was drying my hair. I picked this hotel because of the location-Union Square. It wasn't in Union Square. It was in China Town. This hotel is worth about $25.00 a night. It should be named a hostel not a hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was no frills & basic. The room was cramped. The lights above the night stand didn't work and when I mentioned it to the front desk, I was told they would have maintenance look at it the next day. We were only there for one night, so that didn't help us. Parking in front of the hotel to load/unload was difficult. It's on a busy corner and […] there was no available parking, so we had to carry our luggage several blocks to & from the parking garage. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
constractions and noise, no good service at all , no friendly, only small space dirty shower and mold...everything is charges for ice and using computer...... This hotel is only for sleeping....Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice location. Friendly staff at the front desk."
The window in my room opened out to the fire escape. There was no screen on the window and it neither closed all the way to lock nor opened all the way in the event of an emergency because of a stopper screwed into the frame. The walls are thin and the floors creaky. The floors are creaky above too when your neighbor is walking. If you are a light sleeper […] bring earplugs or ask for the top floor. It's an old hotel. The wallpaper in the hallway was stapled in a few spots where the seams had pealed up. No frills. Small room. Not a bad place to stay if you will be touring around. "Only for emergencies"
I got this hotel for US$100 a night, which was too much, it was worth maybe $70. Pros: -Good location at picturesque Chinatown and walking distance to downtown San Francisco and Moscone Center -Clean rooms -Courteous staff Cons: -Old (furniture, carpet, elevators, furnishings); feels old -No air conditioning, limited heating -Tiny shower box – two feet […] by two feet -The curtains let a lot of light come inside during the day -No parking, not even a proper place for a taxi to drop you off or drop off luggage from a rental car -No free ice - you had to pay $0.25 for a cup (not a bucket) in an ice machine on the ground floor -Just one elevator and not in good order for it was limited to four people, though it could fit ten I would stay again only in an emergency. I suppose I could have done better for $100. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, good rates"
The Grant Plaza is not a "nice" hotel. That's OK though. It is clean, affordable and in a great location. If you just need a place to sleep after you explore the city, this is a great choice.Genuine Expedia guest review
"It's a room!"
The room was incredibly small but once you adjusted it was quite comfy and homey. The location is excellent and the staff went above and beyond to provide fantastic customer service.Genuine Expedia guest review
"What a dump!"
This was the worst hotel I've stayed in and taught me a lesson about shopping by price only. The room was tiny, dark (windows on an airshaft) and there were no common hotel amenities such as shampoo, coffeemaker, etc.Genuine Expedia guest review
The price and location can't be beatGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beds, bathroom, TV--what more do you want?"
Good hotel for a good price. Is it the Waldorf Astoria? No. If you want to stay in your room the whole time in luxury, this isn't for you. Want a place to sleep and shower that is clean and doesn't break the bank? This is it. Some traffic noise; ice not free.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall the hotel was not what I expected it to be. But the location and price were good. My biggest letdown was that the shower didn't drain properly. Within seconds the standing showers bottom would fill with water and we had to shower really fast to keep it from overflowing. The staff was friendly but were unable to address the shower issue when […] we asked. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Throw Back to Flop-House European Pensions"
Tiny room. Couldn't get the heat to work. My window opened on to a concrete bag littered workspace. There was, indeed, barbed wire. The TV was affixed to the wall...precariously. Noise in the hall, noise outside. This sort of messy charm would have been a bit more endearing if the room hadn't been 100 dollars a night.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Gateway to Chinatown. Close to everything."
The hotel was a good place to stay on a budget. The rooms are a bit outdated, but clean. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. We asked for a room change to a room with a view and we were accommodated. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were within walking distance to many other local areas, including Chinatown, shopping district and the wharf!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location. One block to cable car. Safe feel."
The room was basic but very clean. Bed and bedding were very comfortable. Staff was very nice. Location so close to California Street cable car made it easy as well as very safe feeling, even in the evening. I would definitely stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
great location and good host, rooms are just the right size. I would recommend this to anyone.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Easy to find but the pictures don't tell the truth. The room I was given was no bigger than a walk-in closet, and the electronic door had to be slammed multiple times to keep it closed. Hotel staff were friendly thoughGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good Location - Run down Hotel"
Centrally located in China Town, ease for shopping and touring. Hotel itself is old and rundown. two twin beds were only a few feet apart, shower was tiny. Noisy street with thin windows made it difficult to sleep.Genuine Expedia guest review
"great choice, if you just want a place to sleep."
location is a big plus. the staff is nice and very helpful. the rooms are ok, with the only drawbacks being the beds, which are not as comfortable as you may be used to in a hotel, and the shower, which is very small. overall, it was a very positive experience and i definitely recommend it if you're looking for a cheap, clean place to stay in a great […] location. Great Hotel LocationGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is located to the downtown within walking distance. The cost performance is quite good. But, it is a little bit noisy outside.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very close to attractions. You get more than what you paid for.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Impeccable Friendly Staff"
The hotel is somewhat overpriced for the amenities you get and the comfort provided, but the staff is remarkable. They are courteous, friendly, attentive, and ever eager to accommodate to the best of their ability. And while the hotel may ultimately have a lot to be desired, the amazing hotel staff fill any stopgaps left by lack of luxury.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The price was right"
Good price for the location. The rooms are however very small. The beds are all warped. But it beats paying $400-$600 in nearby hotels.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Great Hotel for everyone. I found this Hotel clean and comfortable and a perfect location for me.Genuine Expedia guest review

The girl at front desk was awesome. She gave me a lot helpful information.Genuine Expedia guest review
My girlfriend and I heasatantly booked this hotel in hopes to save some money during our latest vacation and were extremely surprised at the value of this hotel. The rooms were small, yes, but they were also very clean and the bathrooms were clearly remodeled recently. This is not a four star resort by any stretch of the imagination but it is a great […] value compared to some of the other places downtown if you're just looking for a simple place to rest at night and freshen up in the mornings. "I didnt like it"
Rug very dirty did not feel save door to outside alley right next to room no screen on window very noisy can hear trafficGenuine Expedia guest review
I stay at this hotel once a year when I'm in SFO for conferences. This is a cheap, no frills hotel. If you're looking for a cheap, safe place to stay in SFO, it is hard to go wrong with Grant Plaza. Neither the beds nor the wifi speed will win any awards but the hotel is good value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Highly recommended if you are not a picky traveler"
This hotel is located in a fantastic and safe location. The building itself is old, but I didn't find that to be a problem. If you plan on sleeping in, you will not be happy since the housekeepers start early; it could get quite loud when they vacuum. Staff members are helpful and friendly. Overall, an affordable place with basic amenities. It's clean, […] convenient, and safe for the price paid. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Pros: Close to EVERYTHING, it is located in the same block of the chinatown gate so if you arrive later at night it is not dangerous but if you go more inside chinatown it is really desolate, friendly staff, clean rooms, cheap Cons: small rooms, smells a little bad the room, bad view from your window (literally a concrete wall), NO AIR CONDITIONER, […] REALLY NOISY!!! because the hotel is made of wood so you can hear EVERYTHING what people talk, their steps, and what they do; the elevator has an ALARM THAT SOUNDS EVERY TIME someone uses it! so in the middle of the night you hear that alarm clearly!!!!, the elevator is just for 4 people so you have to wait sometimes, everytime I took a shower the water remains there like one hour. PERSONALLY I wouldn't stay in this hotel NEVER again because I wake up with any little noise so I couldn't sleep well; there was a couple fighting all nights in the floor below in the middle of the night and also a group of crazy adolescents that arrived drunk at nights and began to scream, sing, laugh, and do noise. PLUS the alarm of the elevator!!! I really appreciated my sleeping time so it was TERRIBLE for me. But if the noise doesn't bother while you are sleeping you should consider this hotel. "Worst Hotel Stay - NO A/C or Heat"
This was the most horrible hotel stay ever. There was no heat, no air conditioning. When I arrived to my room it was the size of a small office and the window was wide open. The Parking( that they don't inform you about) is ridiculously priced. On street parking is slim to none and the room itself was VERY dirty, the bathroom was no better. The hallways […] smelled like smoke, and the floors in the hotel creaked along with and extremely outdated elevator. Will NOT be booking this hotel again EVER. "Nice location and stuff"
the hotel is very close to Chinatown, so we felt very safe going out during the night. Stuff are very nice, they helped us a lot for the directions to the places we wanted to visit. My friends worried because the cost was too cheap, but it was equipped with nice beds, warm room, even though we had some wifi connection problem, nice hotel overall. I […] difinitely want to stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel location is great. I would have been completely happy with my stay if not for one unfortunate detail. Around 4 a.m. I had constant water running noise in my room. It was in the wall, and the wall was worm. Judging that there were no radiators or air conditioning units in my room, I assume it is some kind of heating system. The noise was irritating […] and I could not sleep. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to everything, no frills but did the job"
I was a bit slow getting organized to attend a conference, and picked this hotel based on its location and price. The floors creak, not the most soundproof rooms (I was near the elevator and it also beeps incessantly). But aside from that - location was handy to everywhere I needed to be, and the room was clean enough and the staff friendly. Bed was […] comfortable too - did the trick at a very reasonable price! "close to my business site visit, reasonably priced"
I enjoyed it when I wasn't working (which was a lot). I walked Chinatown and even walked down to the Embarcadero Center to meet friends after I checked out (and before I was required to retrieve my car). Parking lot was close, valets were very nice. I will stay there again when visiting this customer. Hotel was on the old side with wheezing radiators […] but they weren't too loud, room was small, but clean and reasonably priced (remember this is SF!). WiFi was useful since I had work to monitor after leaving the workplace. Not too much noise from the streets though traffic goes all the time in that area. No free breakfast or those amenities, but Starbucks just down the street. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Can't beat the price in this location."
Hotel staff was friendly, although when we left a note with a tip asking for extra towels we never got the towels (maybe the housekeeper didn't read english?). The room was very clean. Our room faced the courtyard, and because the heat was constantly on (no temp control in the room) we had to leave our window open. We were able to hear everyone else […] who had their windows open as if we were in the same room. Also, not sure if you can stay here if you're tall. The wall that the toilet is facing is very close to the toilet. I'm 5'4" so it was okay, but I don't think a 6'4" person could comfortably use the toilet. However, I'm giving a high rating because at that price in that neighborhood I would definitely stay again, as I only needed the room to sleep. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect for a city trip"
I stayed with my sister in this hotel for a couple nights. It was perfect for a short trip. No frills, great value for money and very lovely members of staff. It is very conveniently located for BART to and from SFO, for shopping on Market Street and for the Embarcadero.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
