I stay at this hotel once a year when I'm in SFO for conferences. This is a cheap, no frills hotel. If you're looking for a cheap, safe place to stay in SFO, it is hard to go wrong with Grant Plaza. Neither the beds nor the wifi speed will win any awards but the hotel is good value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Highly recommended if you are not a picky traveler"
This hotel is located in a fantastic and safe location. The building itself is old, but I didn't find that to be a problem. If you plan on sleeping in, you will not be happy since the housekeepers start early; it could get quite loud when they vacuum. Staff members are helpful and friendly. Overall, an affordable place with basic amenities. It's clean, […] convenient, and safe for the price paid. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Pros: Close to EVERYTHING, it is located in the same block of the chinatown gate so if you arrive later at night it is not dangerous but if you go more inside chinatown it is really desolate, friendly staff, clean rooms, cheap Cons: small rooms, smells a little bad the room, bad view from your window (literally a concrete wall), NO AIR CONDITIONER, […] REALLY NOISY!!! because the hotel is made of wood so you can hear EVERYTHING what people talk, their steps, and what they do; the elevator has an ALARM THAT SOUNDS EVERY TIME someone uses it! so in the middle of the night you hear that alarm clearly!!!!, the elevator is just for 4 people so you have to wait sometimes, everytime I took a shower the water remains there like one hour. PERSONALLY I wouldn't stay in this hotel NEVER again because I wake up with any little noise so I couldn't sleep well; there was a couple fighting all nights in the floor below in the middle of the night and also a group of crazy adolescents that arrived drunk at nights and began to scream, sing, laugh, and do noise. PLUS the alarm of the elevator!!! I really appreciated my sleeping time so it was TERRIBLE for me. But if the noise doesn't bother while you are sleeping you should consider this hotel. "Worst Hotel Stay - NO A/C or Heat"
This was the most horrible hotel stay ever. There was no heat, no air conditioning. When I arrived to my room it was the size of a small office and the window was wide open. The Parking( that they don't inform you about) is ridiculously priced. On street parking is slim to none and the room itself was VERY dirty, the bathroom was no better. The hallways […] smelled like smoke, and the floors in the hotel creaked along with and extremely outdated elevator. Will NOT be booking this hotel again EVER. "Nice location and stuff"
the hotel is very close to Chinatown, so we felt very safe going out during the night. Stuff are very nice, they helped us a lot for the directions to the places we wanted to visit. My friends worried because the cost was too cheap, but it was equipped with nice beds, warm room, even though we had some wifi connection problem, nice hotel overall. I […] difinitely want to stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel location is great. I would have been completely happy with my stay if not for one unfortunate detail. Around 4 a.m. I had constant water running noise in my room. It was in the wall, and the wall was worm. Judging that there were no radiators or air conditioning units in my room, I assume it is some kind of heating system. The noise was irritating […] and I could not sleep. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to everything, no frills but did the job"
I was a bit slow getting organized to attend a conference, and picked this hotel based on its location and price. The floors creak, not the most soundproof rooms (I was near the elevator and it also beeps incessantly). But aside from that - location was handy to everywhere I needed to be, and the room was clean enough and the staff friendly. Bed was […] comfortable too - did the trick at a very reasonable price! "close to my business site visit, reasonably priced"
I enjoyed it when I wasn't working (which was a lot). I walked Chinatown and even walked down to the Embarcadero Center to meet friends after I checked out (and before I was required to retrieve my car). Parking lot was close, valets were very nice. I will stay there again when visiting this customer. Hotel was on the old side with wheezing radiators […] but they weren't too loud, room was small, but clean and reasonably priced (remember this is SF!). WiFi was useful since I had work to monitor after leaving the workplace. Not too much noise from the streets though traffic goes all the time in that area. No free breakfast or those amenities, but Starbucks just down the street. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Can't beat the price in this location."
Hotel staff was friendly, although when we left a note with a tip asking for extra towels we never got the towels (maybe the housekeeper didn't read english?). The room was very clean. Our room faced the courtyard, and because the heat was constantly on (no temp control in the room) we had to leave our window open. We were able to hear everyone else […] who had their windows open as if we were in the same room. Also, not sure if you can stay here if you're tall. The wall that the toilet is facing is very close to the toilet. I'm 5'4" so it was okay, but I don't think a 6'4" person could comfortably use the toilet. However, I'm giving a high rating because at that price in that neighborhood I would definitely stay again, as I only needed the room to sleep. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect for a city trip"
I stayed with my sister in this hotel for a couple nights. It was perfect for a short trip. No frills, great value for money and very lovely members of staff. It is very conveniently located for BART to and from SFO, for shopping on Market Street and for the Embarcadero.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"hotel in chinatown with tiny creaky rooms"
Besides room being smallest hotel room I've ever been in and all floor boards creaking, lets just say staff is discriminatory, and I won't be coming back or recommending it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Decent for a quick stay and bouncing around the ci"
The hotel was fine - easy accessible location. Great for people who are there to explore the city and not spend a lot of time in the hotel. No fridge in the room but maybe other rooms do have one. Definitely a decent place to stay if you want a central location, no frills, free wi-fi, very nice staff, etc.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Cheap and uncomfortable"
Cheap hotel with very tiny rooms in Chinatown. Close to downtown and shopping district. Practically no amenities at all. Very uncomfortable. Will not recommend to stay there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I would never suggest this place to a friend."
Though I am usually a very laid back person but there was no way I was staying at this hotel after seeing the room. It took a very long time to check in at the front desk and when I went up to my room I was in disbelief by the conditions. After stepping into the room, I instantly began my search for a room at other local hotels because there were multiple […] stains on the sheets, food crumbs on the floor by the bed and overall the room looked nothing like the pictures posted on the website. Wish I would have taken pictures. I ended up finding another room (for $350 per night -- it was worth it) and checking out of the Grant. I called Expedia and the representative reached out to the hotel's manager to get authorization for a refund. The hotel's manager initially tried to charge me for one full night rather than giving me a full refund since I "spent around 10 minutes checked into the room" looking for another place to stay. That certainly was not going to work for me so I asked Expedia to call them back and eventually the manager complied and gave me a full refund. Just don't do it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good location but a low end hotel."
The bed was really hard and not comfortable. There is no air conditioning so the windows need to stay open and the traffic noise is very loud almost all night long. The staff was friendly but the services and cleanliness were at the bare minimum to get by.Genuine Expedia guest review
Rooms were extremely small, only fitting a full bed and a small desk. Bed was hard and uncomfortable. But location and price can't be beat. Just don't plan on staying in your room for any significant portion of your trip. Staff was very nice and friendly. Room was cleaned thoroughly daily.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was perfect walking distance from all the shopping, trolley, Bart, and all entertainment. Don't expect to check unto the Doubletree though.. Hotel room is small, but very clean.. The location is the best! Quiet hotel.. No one disturbed us at all! Would definitely book there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not for the overweighters!"
Well, we are glad we are regular sized people. Hotel seems like it was made for small people a long time ago. Always felt cramped especially in bathroom. But hey u get what u pay for and the price was right for our budget. Right at the gates of Chinatown area, walking distance to plenty.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cheap but noisy - close to main SF places"
Good point: The hotel is close to the main good places in SF. If you do not mind walking you do not need to take public transportation to get to these main places. Improvement area: Nevertheless the room was too noisy. We could hear inside and outside noises. We could not relax after our walking trip in the city. If I compare the hotel price to what […] my country can offer I would have got definitely more comfort. Let say that in SF you need to value down your expectations when you take a 100$/night hotel. "Good location and inexpensive"
This hotel gives you the basics. Small rooms with a place to sleep and take a shower. The hotel was down town near China town. It was about 1.4 miles to ATT park which we walked. If you're looking for a place to sleep, this is great. If your looking for something nice, keep on looking. We paid just over a $100 per room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice, quaint, clean and well managed hotel"
Hotel is very quaint. It is older, but well cared for and the staff is lovely. Slept incredibly well and were very close to everything we needed to be close to. If you are looking for a Westin, this isn't for you. But if you are looking for a nice, clean, older hotel with a staff that is incredibly sweet and caring, you're in the right place.Genuine Expedia guest review

"they sell single beds as double!"
I've booked one room with two double beds for 3 people, but I've got room with two single beds (in the corner over two noisy streets)! There were not other free rooms. No breakfast, no caffee-maker, no free ice machine - it was the only hotel among 19 others during this travel where I had to paid for ice.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good for couples"
Pros: GREAT location, good price. We had no trouble connecting to the free Wi-Fi. Cons: Room was so small that once the twin size rollaway bed was unfolded, you could not walk on the floor around the room. So this is best for couples, not families of >2. Hotel description specifically calls out tub/shower combination, but our room had only stand-up […] shower stall which was pretty tight in size. We were on the 2nd floor and on the street side, and traffic noise all night was very loud. Hotel charges for ice. Garage was 3 blocks away, but daily parking fee seemed reasonable for the area and included in/out privileges. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Smelly, small, but fine for us!"
The room was tiny and it smelled terrible! The whole place smelled like smoke. The spare blanket smelled so badly that I asked for a replacement at the front desk. The room was microscopic, and with my son's cot set up, there was hardly room to maneuver. The cot was misery for my son, and an extra charge, so avoid if at all possible. But it looked clean […] enough and the location in Chinatown was really cool. I had read the reviews prior to booking, so knew what to expect. Small and smelly, as long as it has a good location and appears clean enough, was acceptable for our purposes. Tiny bathroom, only a very small shower stall. Internet. Polite staff. You get nothing but a small room in a cool location for the price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I stay for 4 nights with my two children .I have two twin bed and by courtesy the manager offered additional bed for my other teenager without any charge (verbally). "Grant Plaza disappointment."
There was nobody to help us with our bags. The room was way too small for 2 people. Easy to see why it was so low priced for San Francisco. It's located in Chinatown and a lot of other fun places so if you stay here, just stay out all night and enjoy them!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent hotel in Chinatown"
We had to find a place to stay at the last minute, and wound up staying at the Grant Plaza hotel. The price was fair, it was close to the BART station and lots of shops and restaurants in Chinatown. Great little hide away right in the Chinatown, Union Square, Financial District merging zone. Small hotel with a very kind and helpful staff. This is a 2-star hotel, and that is what you should expect. That being said, the location and price were great and the bed was clean and comfortable. The walls are paper thin, and there were only about 9 channels on the TV. I was not in my room and thankfully, the nights I stayed there, my neighbors in the neighboring rooms were quiet. "I'd stay again."
Much cheaper than the bigger hotels and more comfortable and private than many others, Grant Plaza occupies an attractive niche for the cost-conscious business traveler. The internet was decent, with only one flicker in connectivity on my first night. The bed was comfortable and clean. The water pressure was great and the hot water was hot! The only […] thing I didn't like was the smallness of the desk in the room, but that's very minor. There was no a/c in the room, but in SF a/c is rarely needed. Really good for the price you pay. Rooms are small but clean. The tvs only get 10 channels or so, but you're in San Francisco, so what would you want to stay in your room for. The hotel is right at the entrance of Chinatown, and I felt safer there than anywhere else I went. "Great location and highly affordable"
We would have loved to have had this hotel for our entire stay in San Francisco. Unfortuantely it was only available for a portion of our trip. A small lack of a few conveniences. No fridge, a shower instead of a tub shower combo. A bit tight on space and a ice machine that costs a quarter for a limited amount. With all that said a great location close […] to Union Square and the Financial District. Beautiful old rooms some with stained glass and for a family a very nice park/playground across the street in St. Mary's Square.
