"Great location, basic accomodation"
It was surprisingly quiet considering the location. Room was very small but more than adequate ensuite bathroom. Everything was very clean. Hotel's general areas were a bit scruffy. Great location with lots of SF sights in walkable distance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Chinatown Gem with Issues"
What a great location for this hotel. It's just two to four blocks from every transportation means. However, that's where my excitement ended. My room, 313, was a shoe box for nearly $200 per night. The shower-only bathroom had visible mold present in the caulk and on the ceiling. No screens on the windows was a disappointment because I loved opening […] the windows for cool fresh air when it was warm. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Close to everything, but not very clean."
The room was very small and dirty. The bed was hard as a rock and the pillows were flat as a pancake. The TV remote was broken, and they charge $1.00 for a bucket of ice! Parking is 4 blocks away, which was not very convenient and quite expensive. The rooms have no A/C which got very stuffy and hot, so I opened the windows to get some air. Unfortunately […] it was very loud from the traffic and all of the transients screaming and yelling all night. I finally shut the windows to try and sleep, but it was so hot I had to re-open them and deal with the noise. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A very good hotel for the price"
The hotel was clean as well as the room. The hotel front desk staff were very polite and helpful. The maid service was good as well. The location was very good, located in Chinatown. Union square is a short walk as well as Powell St to get to the BART and trolley cars. It's a 25 minute walk to ATT&T Park and to Fisherman's Warf. The TV in the room is […] a small flat screen with a limited # of channels. I would definitely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I was quite happy with this hotel as it was the cheapest I could find and wasn't expecting anything great. But...the location is perfect for exploring SF. An easy walk to Union Square, Nob Hill, North Beach, etc. I went to a concert at the Masonic and this was a close 10 minute walk home. Another nice thing about staying in China town is it's lively […] during the day but very quiet at night, things close down early there. By 11 pm the streets were deserted on a Friday night so it was very easy to sleep, even with the windows open on the 2nd floor. I also appreciated that you could open the windows as most hotels don't allow it. Fresh air is good for you! All in all, it was very good value. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to most places I wanted to visit"
Located in where seems to be China Town, this little hotel is centrally located in the downtown area. I didn't have to take a cab to the Civic Center, Folsom Street, or any of the bars etc. Very convenient location in a friendly atmosphere.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel great value for San Francisco."
Check in courteous staff. Well maintained lobby. Safe area. Over all good hotel. We stay often.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Grant Plaza Hotel"
This hotel has become one of my favorites. I live in Sacramento but spend several days each month in San Francisco, and usually stay over from 1-4 of those nights. The location is fantastic. Within walking distance to so many SF attractions and neighborhoods, and lots of public transportation options as well. And the customer service is outstanding. […] The rooms are not as fancy as some, but for the price and the wonderful staff, you can't beat it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice location but uncomfortable"
I wouldn't recommend it. They want you to park at a certain parking structure at a "discount" rate of $28 a night. The room was very tiny and the walls were dirty. Floor creaks really loudly so if you have a room above you, which you most likely you will, you're going to hear every strep they take. Walls are thin so you can actually hear the convo from […] next door. The worst part of it was that they didn't put any screens on the windows. I had to check out at 4 in the morning and slept in my car because I was being attacked by mosquitos. There was no AC so I couldn't close the windows. If I'm paying $110 a night I would at least expect a room with a little more decency. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Never stay at this hotel"
The images on the Expedia were misleading. There were no air conditioner and no coffee machine in the room. The bath towels were black and rough. The tub was dirty. The room was very noisy from the street and from your neighbor room. In short, you felt like you were camping at the downtown of San Francisco.Genuine Expedia guest review
"worth the price, would stay again"
Found this at a great price, and had never stayed in Chinatown before (last time was too close to the Tenderloin and didn't want a repeat of that). The hotel could use some renovations, but the room was clean, the bed was comfortable enough, and the staff were very helpful. One warning if you're tall- the sink was mounted quite low, as was the shower […] head. We're both short, and I could imagine someone taller might have a difficult time. We stayed in August and never got warm in the room without air conditioning. If you're a light sleeper, you might want to request an inner room or keep windows shut. Grant is a busy road. We were fine, though, and slept comfortably. The area was pretty busy and my mother and I felt safe. I would definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"HORRIBLE AND DIRTY HOTEL"
My room had a twin bed in a room that was the size of a small dorm room (and that is being generous). The duvet cover had makeup on it from the guest before and had obviously not been changed. I had to ask them to come put clean sheets on and when he took off the duvet cover there was a big yellow stain on it so I asked him to take the whole thing away […] and give me a clean blanket. The carpet had stains on it and was disgusting. Parking was 5 blocks away in a parking structure. The window was broken and did not have a lock on it. This was by far the worst "hotel" I have ever stayed at. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"One more block"
It was a nice place to stay, it's more in china town then union square. The parking was good even though a little far. The room was small but comfortable. The staff was very friendly.Genuine Expedia guest review
The location is perfect. Located in downtown SF but unfortunately the place has a funky smell as soon as you walk into the lobby which makes you wonder about the cleanliness of the place. The staff was friendly and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
Only had channels 40-50, weird! Bumpy floors, smelly. The staff were nice though. Good location overall.Genuine Expedia guest review
The teller during the morning shift, was rude and wasnt much of an assistance. But the gentlement during the night shift, was amazing, helpful and nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel on the edge of Chinatown"
This is a nice little hotel just inside the Chinatown gate on Grant St. The staff was very courteous and we had no problems with our room. The room itself was a little small but it was still a great value and location. I would definitely stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Affordable hotel in Chinatown"
Very affordable hotel in Chinatown. Rooms are small and basic, ditto for the bathroom-- but you can smell the bleach they used to clean the bathroom with, which is a good sign for this kind of hotel. Crowd is pretty good, lots of foreigners, and the lobby is attractive.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel staff was wonderful--very friendly, courteous. The hotel room was not fancy, but I wasn't expecting that for the low price I paid for the room. I would definitely stay here again. I was particularly grateful that the staff let us check out late due to some unexpected circumstances. Again, they were very helpful and courteous always.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was antiquated with stains on the ceiling, pipes making a lot of noise if someone around your room uses anything in the bathroom. Elevator wasnt working so had to constantly walk up stairs to get to my room. Wouldn't stay there again. Good experience to teach me what a hotel SHOULDN'T be.Genuine Expedia guest review
The location of the hotel is very good but unfortunately the hotel is in very bad shape and I didn't like how the hotel smell.Genuine Expedia guest review
Will never stay here again, hotel was run down, no air condition, rooms had cracked paint, dirty bathroom, parking was 2 blocks away & we had to walk with our luggage because there is no parking in the front. Was located in the busiest, loudest part of financial district! Bad spot!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

1) Stained bed sheets 2) Rude guy at the reception 3) for every complaint he had just one answer which is "we are over booked" 4) NEVER going to this hotel againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This place is in a great location. The hotel staff is super friendly and helpful. It is very reasonably priced because of the room size and the condition of the building. "In the middle of China Town"
We were in San Francisco for a day, and got in in the evening around 9:00 p.m. The lady at the front-desk was abrupt and not very helpful. She was unable to even tell us what city tours or restaurants were within walking distance. I found this strange as the hotel has no restaurants onsite. The hotel room was not very clean or up-scale but it did provide […] the basic amenities (bed, phone, shampoo etc). The main attraction for this hotel was the location; it is right in the middle of China Town and within walking distance of many downtown attractions. They are also able to provide an airport shuttle which was about $ 20.00 cheaper than what we paid for a taxi on the way to the hotel earlier. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not terrible, but don't recommend"
I stayed there for a long weekend, for 2 nights. Hotel facilities are bad! Walls in the room falling apart, carpet very stained, so small I almost couldn't walk around the room. At least the towels, sheets, bathroom were clean. Also, the concierge was a very nice person, who gave me all the directions I needed to get around town to the sightseeing points. […] Those were the only upsides. No heating and no air-conditioning. The hotel is in the first block of Chinatown, not a nice place to walk around at night. But at least it's located very close to Union Square, bus, train and cable car stops. That was good too. The hotel is not terrible, the low price compensates when you need to stay 1 or 2 nights, but wouldn't recommend for a longer stay or for people who are used to hotels a little more classy. We stayed at this hotel while taking several tours to visit San Francisco and Yosemite Park. It is located on a very busy street with plenty of small Chinese stores and street singers. Our room faced the street but we didn't have any noise problem. Good location to visit the Financial Center, to walk for shopping and eating. "Great location but..."
I didn't have the highest hopes for this hotel. I knew for the price we were getting it at and the fact it was so central that it wouldn't be fantastic but we tried anyways. My friend and I had 2 uncomfortable, noisy twin beds. We were on the 5th floor and constantly heard people walking heavily upstairs. "Minimal Room, Great Location, Good Price"
The Grant Plaza is for people who don't plan to spend much time in their room, but want it clean and in the heart of San Francisco. No AC means the windows are open for fresh air and traffic noise, though the street wasn't too loud in our 5th floor room at the back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable and affordable, no frills"
We enjoyed our stay at the Grant Plaza. The hotel is definitly older and you get what you pay for. This is a no frills place but our stay was very comfortable and the staff was very accommodating. I read a lot of complaints about the noise but it didn't bother us at all. Also, there is no air conditioning but that is pretty standard in SF. It cools […] down enough at night that opening the windows works just as well. The hotel is about a ten minute walk to the Bart and 5 minutes from a lot of Union Square shops. For the price and location I think this is a great hotel to stay at. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Hotel overall was excellent. The location was a huge plus. Very close to all major attractions. Room, although a bit on the small side, was clean and comfortable. Only gripe i have is during our 1st night staying there an alarm went off somewhere on our floor during the late night hours and made it difficult to sleep, but it eventually got turned off […] after few hours. "Definition of no-frills"
This is an older hotel, kept up to a bare minimum. The staff was friendly enough, and the location is great, but the bed was stiff, the shower weak, and the room itself hilariously tiny. Still, a clean and simple place to sleep, and one that will hopefully inspire you to spend more time out and about in the wonderful city.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Pros: Perfectly located. Good value for the money Cons: Room are not very big or clean, I really enjoyed my stay, but if you expect a 5 stars hotel from it you'll be disappointed.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Good location, okay hotel for a short stay.."
Friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are a bit outdated, pictures of the rooms looked nicer than the real deal (at least my room was a bit old and the floors were squeaky). Walls were very thin. On the positive: clean bed sheets and towels, great location (close to union square).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Near convention center."
The room was old and poorly kept up. The hot water heat made noise all night. The noise from other rooms and outside was disrupting. The only good was a manager who switched us to a room with no outside window that enabled my wife to sleep.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Just What I Wanted"
The Grant Plaza isn't elegant - it's pretty dated, in fact. But I've stayed before as it suits my needs. In the popular part of Chinatown where the tourists go, a 5 minute walk to the big department stores on Union Square and centrally oriented; This hotel is clean with extremely helpful and friendly people working there. "Old and needs a lot of work"
The shower clogged up while we showered. The elevator needs work. The blow dryer over heated while I was drying my hair. I picked this hotel because of the location-Union Square. It wasn't in Union Square. It was in China Town. This hotel is worth about $25.00 a night. It should be named a hostel not a hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was no frills & basic. The room was cramped. The lights above the night stand didn't work and when I mentioned it to the front desk, I was told they would have maintenance look at it the next day. "Nice location. Friendly staff at the front desk."
The window in my room opened out to the fire escape. There was no screen on the window and it neither closed all the way to lock nor opened all the way in the event of an emergency because of a stopper screwed into the frame. The walls are thin and the floors creaky. The floors are creaky above too when your neighbor is walking. If you are a light sleeper […] bring earplugs or ask for the top floor. It's an old hotel.
