Homewood Suites by Hilton Oakland-Waterfront - Oakland

Great value thanks to better than average breakfast. Also we typically get 1 room suite so we can separate our 3 year old and or 1-yr old. We made due this time with less space. The big negative for our stay was they did not have a rollaway crib as listed on the website. We had to purchase one at Target so our 9-month had a safe place to sleep.

This hotel is not the most high end that you might encounter, but the rooms are above average, clean, and fully stocked with most of the upscale hotel amenities. Breakfast is hot and plentiful, although we had to wait for dishes to be washed in order to eat! The hotel is situated on a very run down frontage road directly next to a noisy freeway. The […] other side has well maintained lawns and a lovely walkway along the canal between Oakland and Alameda. I recommend paying the extra $10 or $20 to stay on the water side of the hotel. The hotel is close to everything if you can handle the neighborhood. We did see a security guard in the parking lot at night which made us feel that our car was safe. This property appeared more like an econolodge or stay America that had been redone as a Homewood. The suite layout was entirely wrong for the Homewood norm, with no seperaye bedroom for the king bed, a tiny overall layout, and much lower end decor throughout. When you stay at a Hilton property you can't help but have expectations. I think there is a fundamental issue with this hotel and the steps they need to take because of it's location. To me problem number one is the use of two buildings at this location. Because of the need for a more secure property, those of us who are relegated to the southern building […] are left feeling like we are in a minimum security prison. Things like having a pizza delivered to your room, finding a vending machine or running out to your car for the plug you need to charge your phone become more difficult than you hoped they would be. When I walked into the stalag even the musty smell made me feel like the sign on the front of the building was a a misprint. They seemed to have a lively group staying there that night. This was an excellent place to stay. Large suites. Clean rooms. Right off the channel. Close to BART and within driving distance of most places. Breakfast was fresh with lots of choices. The only challenge we found was locating dinner restaurants within a reasonable distance that were at a reasonable price. Would stay here again.

The hospitality and friendliness were exceptional. The expanded hot breakfast buffet was quite good. Even the most discriminating eater or dieter will find something to eat with two kinds of eggs, biscuits, waffles , fresh fruits, hot and cold cereal. Stayed on the water side away from the freeway, which is right next to the hotel.

Great size room and location. The view and walk at the waterfront are great. The breakfast and happy hour are great. Located close to the Oakland Alameda Ferry for day visits to San Francisco. Cheaper than staying in San Francisco and free parking.

We booked a non-smoking room and was put into one. Almost every night during our stay strong smoke would get in through the bathroom ventilation. Apparently someone next door was smoking. Called the front desk and confirmed it was a non-smoking floor. The answer to the complain was “will send security to check” but didn’t seem to help. Although I had a little trouble finding out how 3 adults could sleep in a room with a queen size bed, after 3 calls someone could finally tell me there was a hide-a-bed in the sitting room which makes into a bed. ,Visting relative during May 2012, We rent a car at the airport. While driving to the hotel, we drove thur some contructing highway that over shadow the beauty of this hotel. There is front and back of this hotel, the front is facing the highway, but the back (waterfront), is beautiful, peaceful. Our room has a balcony, could see the swimming pool, […] court yard and the beautiful waterfront. it has pretty flowers, neatly care willow tree, goose, ducks,seagull fly by,the hotel also serve great hot breakfast, part weekdays evening meal, included in your room rate! The staffs are wonderful! There is a Starbuck and Quinoz sandwich shop within 5 min walking distance, which you can reach while enjoy your walk around the waterfront., the pool and the whrilpool are heated. They also has a fabulous guide book in the hotel room that we use the info to visit the Hornet Carrier ( retired military ship), a flying boat that was used to film in the Raider of the Lost Ark. The room we stayed has a refrigerator, 2 burner counter top stove , microwave, DISHWASHER, CUPS, GLASSWARE AND SLIVERWARE! a nice big flatscreen tv with cable (even with movie channel, free!), wifi and wired internet access, in the room! a nice table with chairs, comfortable sofa and sofa table, the room is very clean, nicely decorated, bathroom is big and clean. We booked the rooms because it said waterfront. So if it was not close to downtown - we expected it. Beautiful and really waterfront. i wish I could have had a real vacation. It was a nice hotel to stay at, but a few things - terrible lighting in the dressing area, the area has nothing to be able to walk or go to and you really wouldn't want to, not a great area. Great view off the balcony tho. Front office staff was very nice, but several areas under construction so a bit of a mess.

The only problem we had is when we booked our room with Hotels.com, the room description given to them by the hotel was misleading and we ended up with a smaller room than we wanted.

Stayed at this hotel with another couple for 3 days while visiting daugher's family in Oakland. We got a 2br/2bath suite through Hotels.com for an excellent price. Bedrooms were separated by a living/kitchen area so that we both had plenty of room and privacy. Large flat screen TV's in all three areas. Everything was very clean. Room overlooked bay […] which was nice. Free breakfast was more than expected with eggs, sausage or bacon & potatoes plus fresh fruit and various bagles, muffins etc. Would have easily cost $25 per couple anywhere in the Oakland area. Gym was very small with limited equipment (2 treadmills & one elipitical machine plus a few light weight balls which I was not sure how to use). Only negative was an odd smell in the halls - possibly some of their cleaning solution. We were very pleased with this hotel and will always stay here in the future. They also post that they offer a free dinner Mon-Thurs however we were not there on these nights. Read more

I stayed 4 nights at this wonderful hotel and strongly recommend it for everyone who look for the best service you might think of. Here are few features of the hotel; wider rooms, kitchen equipped with neccessary tools, carpet almost new, clean bed sheets plus its location on facing the lake.
