Everything was wonderfull, the staff was great, the food was great, the grounds were meticulous, the only downside was wine was over priced and not a good selection or we would have had it every night and the hotel stores didnt take cash.

My first time to Mexico and I'm glad we stayed here. Staff was great! Surroundings were beautiful! Wish the food would have been a little better. The room was decent, not overwhelmingly great. We went for a wedding in which the entire wedding party was stationed in a different section of the hotel. Even though we all stayed at the same hotel, we were still required to pay so we can dine and drink by the rest of the party. I thought it was the same hotel that advertised all inclusive? It was a little annoying to walk 10 minutes just to eat with your lobby and come back. We have vacationed here twice now. Great for families or a couples retreat! We love the resort- it is huge and has a really long stretch of beach. The price is great for those on a budget, but there is no compromise on the quality of the experience. Buffet, shows, and things to do are all great. Beware of the "helpful" people in the airport, they are offering excursions and trying to get you to come to a time share deal at a resort. Just keep walking past them and find your ground transportation outside the airport to your resort. The excursions packages offered at your resort are pricey, but well worth it. Dinner prices in Playa del Carmen are at premium prices. You can haggle some deals in the shops, though. We love Barcelo Maya Beach and will probably return again and again! Read more

We stayed at the Barcello in 2009 and had a great experience. I have to say that the cleanliness of the resort and the staff seem the same in 2012 however the food was not of the same quality as before. There was 6 of us that went to the Barcello Caribe this time and we all agreed that the food was our biggest disappointment. At the buffet on Italian […] night it was the same as Mexican or Spanish night, the food did not change much and there was not much variety at any of the meals. The food at the dining restaurants was good but the buffets were horrible. We had 3 A la cartes and only had 2 restaurants to choose from as the Beach was closed and the restaurant there was unavailable. After 3 days of complaining that there was a leak under the sink that every day we had to leave towels on the floor to soak up the water, we woke up to a flood in the room on the 4th day that took 4 hours to fix. I think the worse experience was when my sister took the little bus that transfers you within the resort was dropped off near the road and told to walk to her part of the resort. She was by herself and questioned the driver and he told her very clear in english that her section of the resort was where he dropped her off at and it was not! She was very scared and uncomfortable with the experience and ended up wasting half her day putting in a complaint about the driver as she felt very unsafe. Read more

The location is awsome with one of the nicest beaches in the area. The romms are nice and very clean of course the beds are quite hard as all beds are in Mexico. On a negative, their service is quite lacking nobody comes around the beach or pool areas to serve drinks, you will have to be your own waiter or waitress.

My biggest problem with this hotel is the front desk staff during check in. When we arrived at the hotel, we had to wait in line for an hour to check in. When we finally checked in and went to our room, we walked in on another couple. The couple had reserved the room for the week and was not checking out anytime soon. We called the front desk to ask when it was going to be cleaned, and they told us to come back to the front desk to have a different room assigned. Another hour later, we finally had a room. Other than check in, we had an OK experience. The food left much to be desired and the layout of the resort was not intuitive. We booked at the Beach hotel and after we arrived we were surprised to learn that the hotel was closed due to remodeling so we were upgraded to the Colonial which was a plus to us. Before this trip we've stayed at the Barcelo coloni and Barcelo tropical beach. But staying at the Maya Beach was the worst option ever. Our first suite had the bathub clogged and the intrnet service was not working (WE paid extra for wifi internet). It took them two days to get us anotger suite. The AC in the new suute was not working very good but […] I was there on vacation, not a mainenance inspector so we decided we were able to live with it. The minibar service is included an yoy can ask for it to be refilled anytime. Well the third day I asked for some sodas at 7:00 pm, well the woke me up at 11:00 pm to bring me the sodas....four hours after I asked for them! The difference in price between the maya beach and the tropical is not big, choosw the barcelo tropical beach or the colonial beach, you will get better food, much better hotel room.ans service. Restaurants : Variety of food and fruits at the Buffet style restaurants was good, but if you are expecting gourmet food - it was not, but it was good. I can’t say anything about A La Cart restaurants , because we decided not to go . Shows are nice , but stars very late 9.30 pm , its very late for children . They have shows that are appropriate for children and some of them not , so make sure before. The beach is beautiful and very well maintained . Our room was clean and personal changed towels and beds all the time . At the end of our stay, new pajamas disappeared from the room after beds were changed by cleaning lady. We spoke about this incident with several staff members ,but pajamas never was found . This left a little unpleasant feeling at the end. We always use safe box for valuables , but never thought that someone would be interested in taking sealy pajamas. Never leave your personal belongings out ,which is hard to do sometimes. Alexjandra booked a great golf outing for me at Mayakoba El Camaleon. It is a very large hotel but you can always find spots at the pools and beach that are not crowded. Wonderful hotel for the money! This hotel has beautiful grounds and amazing beach. The rooms are nice, but I thought the pillow was too hard. It was great having a minibar in room that was stocked everyday no charge. The food overall was good. There were many choices in the buffet and new items are added and changed daily (delicious fresh tropical fruit!) […] The only restaurant I don't recommend is the Spanish restaurant-Don Quixote- it was the worst Spanish food. The Mexican restaurant El Agave was excellent, as was the Seafood restaurant @ Captain Morgan. You should make reservations right away. The snack bars are good options if you miss breakfast or need a snack between meals. All of the restaurants had Exceptional service. We were very pleased with staff at this hotel. They were very friendly and professional. We had a problem with the light in our room and it was repaired right away. It was great to have a fitness center to work off all of the extra calories ingested with all of the food and drink available. The quality of the alcohol may not be top notch but it was prepared well and it was fine. If you a a wine drinker the wine isn't the best, but it was drinkable, and you can order a decent bottle for a reasonable price. Overall we had an amazing time at this hotel. We will return soon. Checked in at the Barcelo Maya Beach which is where our reservations were and was told the next day that we checked in at the wrong desk and should've checked in at the Barcelo Maya Caribe. The check in process was very painful. We waited in line for approximately 30-45 minutes and once we checked in, we weren't even explained how the hotel worked, much less told how to get to our room. "Ask the bellboy" he said. Once we got to our room, we realized we had two double beds as opposed to a King as booked (due to children). I returned to […] ask for the King bed and told they were all out. After pleading and showing my paperwork, they agreed to place us on a "waiting list" and told to return in the morning. I returned in the morning after spending a horrible night with the kids. We were switched to a room farther away from everything because it was the only one available. Our switch resulted in a non working mini-fridge and a/c, along with an ant infestation. The fridge was switched (never worked) and the a/c was deemed working (hotter inside than out). The exterminator came in with a "non-toxic" substance, but overnight the ants returned. Our entire luggage was covered in ants inside and out as was our bed. I took photos, walked to the reception desk, showed them the photos and they asked if I was leaving crumbs. I showed them what the ants were eating - a cockroach! Finally they agreed to switch us to a better room. The rest of our stay was ok. Food was the worst I've had in Cancun or Riviera Maya EVER! I would never go back to this hotel. Although it is very beautiful, I believe the negatives strongly outweighed any positives. Read more
