Check in was fast and easy. Front desk was polite and helpful. The rooms smelled sour and the halls teamed of cigerette smoke.... Kids liked the breakfast....hotel was clean .Genuine Expedia guest review

"website not accurate but the stay was nice"
We double checked the website for the Shakopee travelodge the morning before we arrived, thus confirming that pets were ok for a fee of $10 per night. So we were certainly surprised when we arrived with our little poodle to be told that pets were absolutely not allowed anywhere on the premises. (and she pointed to numerous posted signs saying "No pets […] allowed anywhere on the property" "No pets allowed in rooms" etc. It was the wee hours of the morning when we arrived, and there was no other option for us to stay, so I could not just agree! It was freezing and the dog would have died if left in the vehicle overnight. I offered to show the night clerk the information on the web site... but she finally agreed to let us keep the dog with us for the additional fee, but grumbling all the time that we "should have called and confirmed" before bringing our pet, and that "my manager is going to be VERY UPSET" (which did not happen, since we never saw her nor her manager the entire time we were staying there.) I suppose the teaching point is, "Don't trust the travelodge website for information." Aside from this little radar blip, we had a very nice stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Reasonable - Good Value"
We have stayed heere aproximately 12 times over the past three years. It is nothing fancy but it is clean & quiet. We find that the management here although foreign, do speak and understand English fluently. Our room has always been clean and all the basics are there. We liked the bear bites breakfast with waffles. We will continue to book this hotel […] when staying in Shakopee. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Enjoyed the 2 night stay. The room was very clean, and was on the 1st floor as I requested. The morning breakfast was delicious, yummy waffles, toast, pastries, cereal, two kinds of juice, milk, coffee, a nice variety. The staff accomadated us by letting us check-in early after our 6 hour drive. The only thing that could have been better would be a […] better mattress. Everything else was great. "Better than the reviews"
Don't listen to all the negative press. My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights while visiting the Ren. Fair. The room was clean, smelled good, had AC. All for a good price- plus the free breakfast was nice. A good hotel Did I mention the Perkins across the street? yum!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel itself was fine. But the bed linen did not seem fresh as indicated by the smell and feel of the sheets and pillow cases.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is shabby; the worst problem was that the thermostat did not respond to the need for more heat. Mattress should have been replaced years ago. Only one light in the room worked. One desk clerk tried to be helpful; another was much less so.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Shakopee Travel Lodge, Minnesota"
I requested 2 rooms for a small group of people going to the Renaissance Festival in Shakopee, Minnesota we arrived Friday night and left Sunday morning. Upon our arrival to our rooms we were informed that they did not realize that our rooms were meant to be together so one room was on the first floor and the other room on the second floor. That is […] alright though because some times what you get is what they have so I was not upset about that. When my group entered our room we noticed ashtrays on the table and on the sink. This I thought slightly confusing as I believed it was in fact a nonsmoking hotel, but the fact that the hallway of the hotel smelled of smoke made me a little more confirmed that I misunderstood. Also the rooms smelled like someone had urinated all over the room. And the room that I was in had wrack next to the door but far enough out of the door's reach that it would not be hit by it and the wall mounts in it were falling out of the wall. Other than that the trip was very comfortable and relaxing for my friends and the location of the hotel was nice enough Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cleanliness and Condition"
The room was terribly dirty and the maids didn't even make the beds everyday. The hotel itself is very run down and not at all kept up.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Do not listen to the negative people that complain. My three kids and I stayed here for three days...clean sheets, towels, excellent breakfast and staff. The local town had excellent food and service through the day. Stay in Shakopee if you can!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Decent, though the air con was noisy"
We arrived there at about 4am and the service was fairly responsive. The room was pleasant and clean. The air con was a little loud, so we had to open the window instead.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Could have been better"
We planned a girls trip to Minneapolis and chose this hotel because it seemed to have everything we wanted. Their "deluxe continental breakfast" left a lot to be desired: the orange juice tasted like it had gone bad (and looked even worse), no fruit was available and the coffee was mediocre at best. That being said they did have waffles, though we didn't […] bother trying them after striking out with the other parts. We had several issues with our key cards not letting us into the room nearly every day but the day of our check in. The bathroom was also extremely small with the sink outside of the bathroom. Also, our telephone wasn't working in the room and when we inquired we were told that it would be at least 3 days before that issue was resolved. That being said, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful with our issues. Our beds were very comfortable and save for the bathroom the room was quite spacious for the price. The rooms were very dirty and the non-smoking rooms smelled like smoke. There were dead bugs on our pillows from the air conditioner and we had to call the front desk to bring up new pillows. Gina, the front desk lady was absolutely awesome! She worked all weekend and was very nice and accommodating - thank you Gina!

For a last minute mini vacation we were happy to find a place to spend the night that didn't cost the usual $150 or more they charge in the area for a Friday night. Our cost here was only about $80 and we got a very good hot free breakfast. It is close to lots of summer activities, too.
"I made an online reservation and upon arrival, I was going..."

I made an online reservation and upon arrival, I was going to be charged a different rate that was more expensive. The manager lowered the price, but didn't match the online price. I stayed anyways because the rate was still cheaper than anywhere else around and my son and I wanted to get rested. Getting rested was very hard to do since there was a huge lump right in the middle of one of the beds and both of our mattresses were hard as rocks. Worst beds I've ever tried to sleep on. Not a pleasant experience this time around.
"An ok stay."

This Travelodge happened to be $20-30 less than most of the other hotels in the area so I decided to give it a whirl. My room was on the top floor and although it was a non-smoking room and all the rooms surrounding it were non-smoking it still smelled like smoke in the hallway. However, it did not smell like smoke in the actual room. The beds were comfortable and there was also a microwave and a mini refrigerator in the room. The breakfast lasts from 6:00-9:00 which I think could be extended for another hour. When I went down for breakfast, I notified the morning desk attendant that the waffle maker was out of batter. She disappeared for 5 minutes then took what little remained in the bottom and put water in with the batter which didn't do a bit of good. Other than that, this was an OK place to stay and the staff was very friendly. I would probably stay here again with the reasonable price being the deciding factor.

I was greeted warmly and acknowledged as a gold member. I was allowed an early check in. Everything was great from check in to check out.

This was a great value in a great location. ValleyFair is conveniently located and only about 20 minutes to Mall of America...without Mall of America pricing. Our only concern that kept this from being an EXCELLENT was the poor wireless signal in our room. Management promised to address this. It was clean, comfortable and affordable.
"Less than expected"

Building Banner says "Deluxe continental breakfast" Was that the choice of 2 breads for toast, 2 different mini muffins, or the waffle maker? Deluxe? Sneaky to add on a $3 safe charge for the inroom safe they never mention at checkin.

Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Rooms are clean, but a little dated. Beds are ok at best. For the price, you can't complain.

The room was clean, the staff were pleasant and the bed was comfortable. We only needed a place to sleep and this fit our needs.

When sourcing hotels in areas that you are not familiar with Trip Advisor is an absolute must. I was travelling from Australia on a business trip and my partner and I needed to find a base close to where we needed to be and The Travel Lodge in Shakopee was a perfect base. It is definitely NOT a 5 star hotel, however it provided us with the essentials which was a clean and comfortable room. I had read a few of the other reviews for this hotel and was a bit sceptical as most of them were relatively negative, however we were pleasantly surprised and found the hotel to be value for money. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful, albeit one of the staff members was a bit surly to start with but after a few days definitely thawed out!!!! They provide a continetal breakfast with the basics, which may not suit some but was enough for us to start the day with toast, waffles, cereal, fruit and warm cups of tea and coffee. I have stayed in many hotels in many countries some 5 star some 2 star so I am well aware of the varying degrees of value for money. As a base for us this was exactly what we needed. Somehwhere warm to come home to after a day conducting business. One day our aircon/heater was not working so the staff member on duty came to our room with her own heater and then made the necessary adjustments to the unit in our room so it was functioning correctly. This is a budget hotel and expectations need to be adjusted accordingly. I would definiteyl stay at this hotel again if i return to the area on business.
