Playa Azul - Cozumel

The hotel is in very good shape. The room was very clean on check-in and it was cleaned every day. The all inclusive breakfast was real good. Plenty of hot food. The pool area and beach area is nice, but there is not a lot of sandy beach area with the property. The staff is friendly.

staff is great, did not do the all inclusive. Instead the breakfeast is free and then we ate and had a snack or food out at the beach at noon then went into town for dinner each night after the beautiful sunset. We had a wonderful stay at this Beautiful resort. The service as exceptional, the food was delicious, and it was a gorgeous view from our room. Some general maintenance and updating of the exterior (i.e. paint and new pool surface) would enhance aesthetics. The rooms were in great shape and it was well maintained. I would recommend it to anyone!

Small and a nice choice for those without children and who don't expect a lot. Easy access to golf. Be ready for Sundays when the bar next to the hotel gets busy with locales and cruise ship visitors. Biggest issue for us was the noise after 10 am with the water motor vehicles. Playa Azul is as advertised - a smaller, comfortable, well staffed and well run property sitting right on the beach in the quieter north end of Cozumel. During our stay we saw couples of all ages, young families and some golfers (the nearby course has deals for Azul guests). My wife and I had a room in the northern wing with a nice view overlooking […] the pool and beach, both of which are suitable for young children. Comfortable room with a good sized shower and cable TV. Our king bed was not as hard as others we've experienced in Mexico - no problem sleeping. There is a beach club, excursion kiosk, volleyball court and playground on the north side of the property but very little noise during our stay the second week of April. Property is WiFi though we relied on the PC located on the 2nd floor of the southern wing. The Azul staff were very pleasant and attentive. The included breakfast buffet was typical resort items - eggs, sausage, waffes, omlets, yogurt, cereal, fruit, etc. - always hot and plentiful. We prefer to eat in the local restaurants but the Azul dinner menu looked very adequate. We found drink prices to be on a par with places in town. The property has an activites kiosk where you can book various water activites on the island; I found the scuba options to be quite a bit more expensive than booking with dive shops in town. If you want a quiet, comfortable, value for the dollar place to stay on the beach, Playa Azul is for you. Read more

I had not been to the Playa Azul since the hurricane of 2005 damaged Cozumel. Great News! Fernando and Martha (the owners) have the Playa Azul back to the way I remembered it pre-2005. It's location 50 yards from the ocean makes trips to beaches or tourist traps unnecessary. Water sports are always 50 yards away. We chartered a fishing boat and were […] picked up right at the Playa Azul Pier. Take your Dramamine for fishing trips everyone! I got a fantastic 5 hour ab-workout over the side of the boat while my friend reeled in a Blue Marlin on our 3rd day of the trip. (Please see pic.) Discount rates on golf at the Cozumel Country Club were a major reason for all 3 of my stays at the Playa Azul. As a golf club pro in MN, I'm pretty picky about my golf. The course was fantastic, had awesome greens, and a challenge for every type of golfer. (Beginners may want to play the front 9 twice. Forced carries over some of the jungle/ mangrove's on the back 9 are pretty demanding.) All our meals were great and the service was always fast and friendly. The beach bar has a simply amazing view and all the drinks and food were very reasonably priced. My wife and I could not have had a better honeymoon. Thank you Playa Azul. We will be back... This hotel has a wonderful staff. Everyone is so welcoming and bends over backwards to help you. The breakfast is wonderful and the waiters remember your needs. They gave our seven-year-old daughter turtle food every morning and it was the highlight of her day! The beach is great with wonderful snorkeling! The location of the Playa Azul is a bit far from the heart of the island's activities. It is very close to the Cozumel golf course, but if you brought your own clubs, it is not really within walking distance to the course. The hotel is near two other all-inclusive hotels in the northern zone. Just a bit south of the hotel along the shore is a large […] defunct hotel, I think it used to be the Club Cozumel Caribe. It is a rather large "eyesore" and conflicting reports from people we have asked as to whether it will be torn down or maybe rehabbed. The Playa Azul hotel has very friendly staff who are willing to assist in any capacity. The room was adequate, though the beds were very hard. It would have been nice to have a mini refrig in the room. The pool seemed clean, but was hardly used, as it was kind of chilly. We like to snorkel, so we were able to snorkel off the shore by walking south toward the old Club Cozumel. It is recommended to have fin booties. There is a ladder that you can use to enter the water, and we drift snorkeled north for at least 40-45 min and saw lots of fish, including a large school of barracuda. The golf course was very nice with lots of wildlife. We did not bring our own clubs, as we planned on golfing only once or twice. The cost of renting clubs, the cart rental fee, and the purchase of golf balls was more that we expected. It was $95.00 per person, which I guess isn't too bad for resort golfing, but just more than we expected. Read more

Rooms are very clean and comfortable. All have a great view of the Caribbean. The staff is phenomenal with Carlos (who runs the dining room) the most memorable. Cozumel Country Club (a Jack Nicklaus design) is a very good golf course and being able to play for only a cart fee of $30 instead of $150+ is a great benefit. The snorkeling right in front of the resort is excellent. One recommendation, walk down the beach to the south as far as you want and snorkel with the current back to the resort. It isn't scary or overbearing but it makes for an easier swim. If you are looking for a smaller, boutique resort where you don't have to fight for beach chairs and great service is standard this is your place. The combination of the golf deal, free breakfast, great snorkeling on site would be hard to beat. Read more

This was the slow season. We enjoyed sharing he hotel with about 3 other couples. Everything was clean and the saff could not have been more pleasant. The golf was very good. The resort met and exceeded my expectations. I was a little nervous about going with a smaller, not all-inclusive hotel, but it turned out to be a great decision. The small, yet well maintained resort had beautiful balcony views and nice accomodations overall. Although it was not all-inclusive, the resort offered plenty of ammenities with restaurants […] indoors and beachside with reasonable prices, plus a great complimentary breakfast buffet by the sea. The food I had at the resort was great and it was so nice to be able to charge things to the room so I didn't have to carry around cash. The resorts sits right on the beach and it's small size make it's extremely easy to access for a good span of shoreline and I loved that. The hotel gives youa complimentary beach towel and service by the water was great. I cannot say enough nice things about the staff at Playa Azul! Their friendly attitudes and kind nature truly made the resort an exceptional place to stay. The golfing was also great and I highly recommend the restaurant across the street (to the left of the more expensive and better known Loster House). It had some of the best lobster/seafood on the island, and an out of this world Key Lime Pie. Don't be deceived by the somewhat diveish look of this place. You won't be disappointed!
