Very nice,an up and coming spot to stay. Rooms were nicely updated. Bar area was being renovated when we were there, but if done in same quality, this will make it a very nice upscale boutique hotel in a great location.

The Bank Hotel had personality, the room was stylish and interesting, and the location is fantastic. The staff were sweet and helpful, we couldn't have been happier. Very easy to find, but a challenge to find parking, the Bank Hotel is perfectly located. So long as you don't get rooms 1, 2 or 3, you'll be high enough to avoid the noise from the bar/restaurant below, and the bar next door - which went on 'til at least 4AM when we checked out (very early flight). After check-in & my initial walk with heavy luggage up six flights of stairs (no elevator), my room was dirty (used towels still in floor, beds unmade) and had to be cleaned. I could not call the front desk to request housekeeping, as the phone did not work, so I had to return to the front desk (which is actually in the back of the hotel bar and is […] operated by the bartenders). I am not a complainer, and am a quiet, low-maintenance guest, but I was absolutely FLOORED when I went to check out and learned that I was charged $46 extra for the two-hour meeting in my room with two people. I was told (at check out) that any additional people in the room, for ANY amount of time, had to be announced for "fire safety reasons" and that I should have been charged fifty pounds, but I was getting a break. I spoke with the on-duty door man when we arrived, who said nothing about this secret "fire safety" clause. All in all, Edinburgh is majestic and the people are wonderful & warm, but I would look elsewhere for accommodations if you are looking for a good experience. Read more

This is a really neat little hotel. As with any accomodation on the Royal Mile, there is alot of street noise. I was so tired I just blocked it out, but it really bothered my husband. This hotel is small, and right above the Bank Bar. It's very close to Waverly train station, but when you are leaving the station you need to make sure that you get up to bridge street, because it's quite hard to walk up any of the closes with a suitcase. Our room was very unusual, with a James Young Simpson theme. There were lots of apothecary bottles […] and some specimens on the shelves covering one wall. With a perfect location and great staff, you can't ask much more from an Edinburgh lodging. The rooms are themed (Kind of creepy if staying by yourself), based on famous Scotsmen. Breakfast isn't included, but there is wifi, and a great bar. Would definitely recommend to other travelers.

The Bank Hotel was almost like a hostel or perhaps a brothel. There was no elevator and our room was on the third floor. We had to walk up red halls and red carpeted stairs. Luckily the manager carried our heavy suitcases up for us. We let them slide down when we left. If you value sleep this hotel is not the place to stay. Our room was on the 3rd floor. When I asked where the elevator was, I was told there was none. We had to drag suitcases up 3 flights of stairs. The hotel is linked to The Bank Bar which on arriving was a little confusing as to where we book in. The staff were very helpful on our arrival. The room was spotless and very modern, loved the fact I could hook up my iPhone onto the room dock to play music through speakers in the room and in the shower room, nice added thought for the ladies GHD's […] also in the room. Breakfast on our first morning offered very little choice re no fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries and had to request toast, though all was openly available on the second morning (no fresh fruit though). The location to the railway station and local attractions were fantastic though being on a main road, the noise level at night did disturb our sleep as we are not used to road noise and it is on a corner with traffic lights to the front and side where our room was. I have also mentioned to a member of staff that my husband slipped coming out of the shower on the step down, it can be slippery and a handle would be helpful and a notice on the wall. As theres is no lift she had to climb 90 stairs which was exhausting for her n only sheer determination got her to the top. An excellent hotel right in the heart of Edinburgh! You are just a short walk from all the main sites. The room was brilliantly decorated and at good value. My only gripe would be that the windows are all single pain so let in a lot of the night noise but that is a small complaint in an otherwise friendly run establishment.

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Apparently the rooms were themed, but have now been standardised. The bar downstairs show evidence of the previous theme, as the walls are still covered in items relating to Scottish inventors/scientists/pioneers. However the room was virtually immaculate! There were a couple of tiny little flaws, one of the bedside […] lamps wasn't working (probably just needed a new bulb) and one of the ceiling lights was actually hanging out of it's fitting, but other than that the room was very clean. My only complaint would be about the flooring (laminate of some kind, I suspect) I'd rather have carpet, especially if having to go to the loo barefoot at night! The bathroom in particular, although it looked fantastic, was freezing at night! The hotel is right on the Royal Mile, so you're handy for anything there, plus Princes Street is only ten minutes walk away, and you've got loads of shops there, so it's a very good location. The highlight of my stay though was the service. I have to give a mention in particular to Stuart, the Irish lad who was on the bar when we arrived. He was very friendly, very helpful, got us checked in with a minimum of fuss, offered us a complentary drink on arrival, and even took our bags up to our rooms for us! One other thing... there's no lift in the building, and the nine rooms are split across three floors, so expect a bit of stair climbing! Not one for wheelchair users, I'm afraid! The recent refurb of the rooms is fantastic, really boutique class. We are sure the rest of the Bank Hotel will follow,suit but there is a way to go yet. Breakfast was not good and the justaposition between a bar and a boutique hotel has yet to be achieved. However, the Bank Hotel was excellent value for money and the position was superb.

Overall it was very good. Would have appreciated a lift in the building but guess that it might be difficult to find a place to put one in such a beautiful and probably listed building.
