"My New Orleans get away"
The hotel was nice but for a nonsmoking facility it reeked of cigarette smoke. The staff did not answer the phone ever when called and the headboard fell from wall.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, 2 blocks from Bourbon Street"
The hotel was lovely, close enough to the French Quarter that we walked everyday. But also just far enough away to escape the chaos. The temperature control in the room was a little tricky, but we were there during an unusually cold spell. The staff was lovely. Continental breakfast included. Very clean. The room was small but not for the price, and […] we were only in the room to sleep and clean up anyway. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We had the best bell hop. He sent us to the best eating places. He was kind and courteous. Mr.O. He was a great help always. We would have stayed longer, but they couldn't find us a room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Past it's heyday"
The hotel has definitely seen better times. The reception area smelled of old cigarette smoke, the carpets look like they've survived many a mardi gras celebrations... The room was very dark and a smelled a bit dank. Overall, it wasn't the worst experience but I think I'd rather look for a hotel near the Esplanade.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lobby smells like an ashtray"
Hot water would turn cold after 5mins, staff just not pleasant, the place has a dirty smell, the only thing that's OK.. Was the breakfast..Genuine Expedia guest review
Nothing bad, but nothing special about this hotel either. There are other choices in same area & same price range that are better.Genuine Expedia guest review
"hotel was sold, so no updates,"
This hotel was sold and is awaiting a full renovation. bed was old, carpet was stained, toilet ran all night. made 2 calls for maintenance ,Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great comfy hotel, thin walls"
We arrived about 3:15 and check in was not until 4pm & they would not check us in early, so we dropped off our luggage & headed to Canal st. to enjoy a Mardi Gras parade for a bit. Because of their firm 4pm check in time, there was a long line at the desk right at 4 & luckily I was towards the front of it. When we got inside our room, my initial thoughts […] were that it was clean, cozy & charming. We booked a room with a King bed and there was plenty of space in the room for our luggage & personal items to spread out. There was also a mini fridge, microwave, TV, dresser w/ chair, night stands & a nice sized shower. Hot water was plentiful & water pressure was okay. Our room only had a view of the street below. My only complaint is that the walls were incredibly thin & we were repeatedly woken up by the housekeeping staff arguing with each other, drunken people in the hallway & a hotel employee repairing a wall right outside of our door. Any time someone nearby turned on the sink it sounded like a missile was exploding in our bathroom due to the sink water pressure being incredibly high. Unfortunately, the shower pressure was significantly lower due to the faucet having some sort of device put on it that doesn't allow you adjust it (basically, you wont be able to take a bath because the level that controls the shower head is permanently up). Despite the occasional noise disturbances, I thought this was a great hotel for the money. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Mardi Gras night :)"
We had a good stay and the room was clean but when you walk in the room it smelled but that's because the cleaned the carpet and closed up the room; so it smelled the wet carpet. But everything else was good and the breakfast was good too. Thank YouGenuine Expedia guest review
Stayed there weekend for mardi gras had to call several times for extra bedding & towels. Parking price is ridiculous 60 dollars for weekend not even valet!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent hotel in a pinch"
This hotel wasn't bad for a one-night stay, but I wouldn't recommend staying here for an extended vacation. Just a lot of details that stuck out...carpets in hallways had ridges where it was stretched; carpets, in general, appeared dingy; tub did not drain, so you had to stand in a pool of water to take a shower; rooms were not very spacious at all […] . I stayed during the Mardi gras holiday when New Orleans was very busy. The staff was very nice and worked fast as possible to ensure everyone didn't wait long to be checked in. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had a double and a king. It's a great hotel for the price. Close to canal st and in walking distance to the French quarter.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good place to rest after a long night of partyingGenuine Expedia guest review
The only thing great about this hotel was the location. The elevators have gone out before, we've been woken up by alarms at 5am & 10am, cable was out, hot water was out. If you're going to be out and about in the FQ & CBD then it's an amazing location, right off of Canal street.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beware of the interior rooms!"
Our room was an interior room that had no exterior windows, it had a window that looked into the hallway of our floor. We were woken up every morning by the staff getting into supply closet at 6:30, that I would assume was on the back side of our room. Living in the area for years, we knew that yes it was Mardi Gras and expected noise from people, but […] they allow people with no room keys to go up elevators and bang on doors until they were let in. This was our 3rd stay here and never had any issues prior to this stay, or had one of those interior rooms. My suggestion is to ask for an exterior facing room at the end of a hall. "Great location to Mardi Gras fun!"
The stay was pleasant. The room was clean and quiet. The shower squealed when turned on and sounded like a hot tea kettle...but it was hot, which was great. There were no towels when we entered the room, but with one quick call to the front desk, we got them in minutes. The location couldn't have been better. It's close enough to all the action of Bourbon […] street, but far enough away so that you don't hear the drunken festivities and loud parades all night long. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The staff were excellent, and knew all of the best places in New Orleans for each category in which we were interested. The hotel needs updating! Great location!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location is perfect! Just a few blocks from the French Quarter and the price was much more reasonable than hotels in the French Quarter. It is located directly on the trolley line which is loud when you are trying to sleep. We brought ear plugs, thanks to another review we read, which worked great. We slept like babies after all the exploring we […] did. The hotel staff was friendly especially the doorman. I never caught his name but he always had a smile. We joked with him since we caught him at his other job working as a doorman on Canal street! He must love people. The room was a bit run down. There were stains on the carpet, the shower curtain was ripped and the furniture was chipped. But if you look past that it was fine. Besides how much time are you spending in the room when you are in an amazing city like New Orleans! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The location was the best part. I hurt my ankle bf arriving and couldn't walk much. The parking, and restaurants, and CVS were all close to the hotel. The room was small, but clean. It was perfect since it was just two of us. You walk a block and you're on bourbon and Canal. It was even close to the hospital we went to. I plan to bring kids with us […] next time for Spring vacation. We've previously stayed at the Hilton. This was the best price and location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The location was great. Just 2 blocks to Bourbon Street and Trolley. Many great places to eat within walking distance. The trolley stops were just 2 blocks away and for a day pass you can go to many of the main attractions. .Genuine Expedia guest review

"Very convenient for the Rock n' Roll Race Series"
Very odd room layouts (our room had a window that looked out into the hallway - thank goodness there wasn't a fire!) .Friendly staff, decent breakfast. According to the staff, they'll be shutting completely down in March to renovate and opening back up in October as a Marriott. The street it's on turns into Bourbon so you can't ask for easier access […] to the Quarter. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Personally, I wasn't happy at all about our stay. The only thing the hotel has going for them is the location, and I think they know that so they don't care about anything else.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient & Quiet"
Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Renovations going on, and still very clean and organized. Close enough to downtown without being noisy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel With a History"
We (a couple) stayed at the historic Cotton Exchange for one Saturday prior to leaving out of NOLA on a cruise. First and foremost, I will say the hotel was reasonably clean and EVERY member of the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location if Bourbon Street is your destination as Carondelet Street, on which the Cotton Exchange […] is located, turns into Bourbon as it crosses Canal Street less than 2 blocks away. Easy walk, seemingly safe with a lot of other foot traffic in the area, hotel valets, etc. The hotel itself is an OLD building with the evidence of the last upgrade (seemingly a major one) years ago. It is a good thing New Orleans has an abundance of water as the staff will tell you, with a straight face, to let the hot water faucet run for ten minutes in order before taking a shower. I timed it and ten minutes was about right on target. Our room, however, was otherwise clean and the bed comfortable. No need to get into details such as the old television and such as the hotel is slated to join the Marriott chain this fall (2014) and presumably undergo renovation (which will also raise the rates, no doubt). I will also mention the breakfast (complimentary) was not bad and the breakfast room hostess obviously took pride in her work as she hustled the entire time we were there in keeping coffee fresh, etc. Based on our experience, it might not be my first choice but I would stay there again. Hotel is in a good location. It is old and a little run down. Carpets and furniture need to be well cleaned. The bedding was clean thoGenuine Expedia guest review
The stay was a nice surprise. The staff was helpful and professional. Building was safe and clean. A very nice breakfast was included. Thete was some construction noises due to renovations. But that was the only thing bad to say. It was a very enjoyable stay. The location was also great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The only problem was that the card key to the room kept getting demagnified. So we had to go back downstairs to the lobby to get new room keys twice. The breakfast was pretty good. The staff was very nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Enjoyed stay, friendly staff, convenient location. hotel was 2 blocks from Bourbon Street, can ride streetcars to tour town. Excellent restaurants. Will stay here again when I return to New Orleans.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Loved our stay"
We stayed at the Cotton Exchange for the first time this past weekend. We had a great experience. We are from New Orleans so we just loved the old New Orleans feel of this hotel. The room is not big and flashy but it was very clean and definitely served its purpose as we were there for just one night for a wedding. The valet guys are awesome. Very personable […] and work very hard. There is a cool little bar right next door called Dominic's. It was a great little bar with some locals. It did not have the over-inflated drink prices of the quarter. Overall, we would definitely stay here again. It is in a great, safe location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not worth the cheap rate!"
Hotel is located in about 10 minute walk to French Quarter. Upon arrival the bellhop and front desk were helpful. Rooms are dated and dirty. I found a roach in the bathroom!Genuine Expedia guest review

"No hot water"
I give the Cotton Exchange high marks in most categories. It's an old hotel, but the rooms were recently renovated. The staff was friendly and helpful, and it's located in the CBD, on the St. Charles streetcar line and two blocks from Bourbon St. The price I got from Hotels.com made it a good value. However, one problem overarches all: the lack of hot […] water. My room had hot water first thing in the morning, but most days did not in the afternoon or evening. I checked on this with the front desk and was told it was due to fluctuations in pressure. In other words, I was stuck with the situation. For that reason, I will not return. I also learned that the hotel is being taken over by A.C. Hotels and Marriott and will be completely redone. While they will probably fix the water problem and turn the property into a first-class hotel, it will likely be priced out of my range by my next visit. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Extremely unhappy as booked a room for two double beds thru hotels.com and when we checked in they had changed it to just a king bed room and informed me that they didn't have any rooms left with two beds I even called a week before we checked in to confirm and was told we would have two beds. Staff was slow and extremely rude.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Hotel !"
It's in such an excellent location, walk 2 blocks up and it turns into Bourbon St ! The hotel staff was amazing, we arrived at 9am and they allowed us to have an early check-in. When we walked into our room it had a horrible smell of cigarettes, we didn't complain or mention anything about it but the bellhop noticed it because 2 min after he dropped […] off our luggage we received a call from front desk informing us they would be moving us to a different room and apologized for the smell of the room. Our second room was even better, bigger room, bigger bed. It was extremely nice of them to do that. All in all it was a great stay ! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not a good hotel"
This was the worst hotel I ever stay in New Orleans. The front desk person wasn't friendly at all. They wouldn't check our car in and the rooms wasn't available on time. We had to wait 4hr for our room. No safe or mini fridge in the room. Plus the carpet was stain and smell. Cracks in the walls and floors. I do not recommend this hotel at all. My husband and I frequent New Orleans several times a year. We usually stay in the quarter or the garden district. We thought we would venture out and stay in the business district. Mistake!! It was so noisy it was really hard to sleep. Also there were homeless people lining the streets outside out hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very satisfied with my stay. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Canal St is just a very short walk. The room was very clean and comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The rooms could use some renovations"
The staff were excellent and the valets went beyond the norm in ensuring our stay was not tainted by the parking situation being so expensive and hardly any off street parking available.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to everything"
Nice place. Close to Bourbon St. and dome and everything.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice stay but lousy location of room"
Overall the stay was nice but the room that was assigned to us was next to an old elevator which made it difficult to sleep. The room also had curtains that didn't close at all so it felt as if we couldn't have our privacy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"So many things went wrong"
Maybe we were just unlucky, but I would never, ever stay at this hotel again. Let me go over some of my grievances: * Flowers in the hall outside the room were all dead * Door would not close 90% of the time, we would need to take turns slamming it until eventually it would close. Very easily could accidentally leave the door wide open * 2 fire alarms […] went off (at 4:15 and 4:45 AM respectively) on our first night there. Both were false alarms. * Old 1980's Zenith TV's * Twice (in our three night stay) our cards to enter the room were reset and no longer worked * NOTE: only mini fridges in certain rooms (I think King Sized bed rooms) That said, it is close to Bourbon Street and it's relatively cheap, so there's that, but I'd definitely pay more to be somewhere better (as I have each prior visit to New Orleans). It's worth the extra money to do so. In addition to my explicit grievances, the rooms aren't very nice and there are no modern amenities. The fire alarms might not have been the fault of the hotel, but they foster a feeling of drunken stupidity, and I'm sure at other hotels measures would have been taken that the second "wake up" would not have happened -- if you're over the age of 25, you will not like this place at all.
