Hotel location was excellent. The rooms are a bit outdated and the room I stayed in had a musty smell and could use deep cleaning. I feel if the carpet and sofa were steam cleaned and the bathtub/shower scrubbed my stay would have been more enyoyable. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Classic is definitely the right term. It's a nice older hotel. Yes, the check in is on the bottom floor, adjacent to the parking deck, but this is not unusual in the older hotels on the strip. The staff was very friendly and helpful - check in was fast & uncomplicated. Our room was very clean (and I am very picky about such things). The carpet was a little soiled, but this is to be expected at the end of the season at a beachfront hotel. There is a window between the bathroom & the sitting room - quirky but you can't see through it. The jetted tub was FABULOUS! Perfectly clean, plenty of hot water and room for two! The beds were soft and really comfy with lots of pillows. We were there in the "off season" but the parking was full. Our room on the second floor was perfectly quiet. We checked out the pool, it seemed clean & the surrounding area was neat & clean too. It's only open until 10, so we didn't swim (see above paragraph re: tub!). The hotel is close enough that we could walk to most of the places we wanted to go. We were in VA Beach for the weekend & had plenty of nightlife & restaurants to choose from. All in all a nice, relaxed, comfy stay.

I hadn't stayed at the Dolphin for over 20 years & after having read some of the reviews, I was a bit nervous. But, everything was fine. The Front Desk Staff was friendly and efficient. The room was clean. The beds were comfy & had lots of pillows. Yes, the carpet in the room was a little soiled, but it's a beach hotel at the end of the "season" & I expected as much. The kitchen area was very clean, as was the bathroom. We did try out the jetted tub & it was REALLY nice. Plenty of hot water, worked great, & room for two :) The window between the bathroom & the seating area is quirky & unexplainable, but all you see are shadows & it's not an issue. The parking is tight, but adequate, you'll find the same arrangement at most of the older hotels. The location is great - lots of places to go within walking distance. All in all, as good a stay as I expected. It's not a luxury hotel, but it's clean, friendly, efficient, quiet, convenient, & quite comfortable.

I picked this hotel for the location, all sea view rooms and right on the beach. We certainly weren't disappointed! Being able to wander back to the room when you'd forgotten something was great. We could even watch the fireworks from the balcony. There were also plenty of restaurants around to try for dinner - we liked Ammos. The hotel and the rooms are a little basic, especially the "kitchen" - fine for continental breakfast but I wouldn't want to try to cook! My husband and I had the sofa bed which was rather saggy, but as I have titled this review, it did the job. All the hotels seem very expensive in Va Beach, so we don't have a particular gripe, although the overall cost of our 3 night stay was a lot compared to other places we stayed on our trip. Overall, it's fine, but don't expect a 5-star hotel stay.

This hotel is located in a very nice spot right on the ocean in Virginia Beach. All the rooms are actually suites and have an ocean view with a balcony. The beds were very comfortable and the suite was very clean and well appointed. My only gripe is the pool was closed or at least a tarp was draped across it which we should have been told about when we checked in. We asked what the pool hours were, but the girl didn't inform us about the condition of the pool. Consequently, we had two very disappointed grandchildren. The other gripe was the jaquzzi tube didn't work. Consequently, I had a very disappointed wife! With those complaints set aside, we did have a nice stay and would return.

It really is a toss up between the lack of access, suitable parking, lax/unfriendly staff, filthy rooms, drafty doors that whistle even when the wind is just a whisper, broken furniture & fixtures...I mean the list goes on & on. I was 'greeted' by the front desk staff who were standing around waiting for the shift to change over & ignored me until the one clocked out & the other clocked in. While waiting on them for 45 mins the desk clerk finally heard from the cleaning crew as to which rooms were available - after arguing thru a list of what seemed like 20 rooms that weren't ready/available I was finally given a room/key. Surprise! The key didn't work so I had to wait another half hour to be given another room & another key. The jacuzzi tub was filthy with what looked like hair stubble & a soapscum line half way up - also the jacuzzi part didn't work. Yes I personally scrubbed it with clorox wipes on my own before I attempted a bath in it. It had a small fridge/freezer that defrosted in the middle of the nite putting water clear across the tile floor - while melting or soaking everything I put in it. The wind howled thru the gaps in the front door & screamed thru the back sliding glass door. It was so bad at one point that the door flew open in the middle of the night, thank God I had the metal latch attatched. I'd forgotten to lock the deadbolt as I was exhausted from a 13 hr drive up. I called downstairs to see what my options were & was hung-up on twice. By 11 pm I could take it no more & fell asleep on top of the bed with a blanket from home because I was scared to death to see what lie beneath the sheets. I awoke promptly at 7:30 am, packed my car back up & was checked out by 9am. When I expressed my disdain & issues I was at a loss because I was dealing with a newly hired desk clerk who had no idea what she was doing. When the manager came in he completely blew me off at one point stiffling a giggle while tears welled up in my eyes from both the exhustion &

The halls of the hotel were like multi-purpose/indoor-outdoor halls but the elevator was very nice, a great preparation for the room. The room was absolutely great! The bedroom was closed off in a corner and you could close off the living room area (which was very spacious) as well. The balcony view was amazing even at night and exceptional in the morning! The room was pretty clean, the bathroom was spacious and the jacuzzi tub sat me n two other friends. Dolphin Inn was much better than the other hotels I've visited on the ocean front. The only issue I had was the "cold" walk from the room to the indoor pool that was also quite cool for this time of season, but that had nothing to do with the hotel, just the time I chose to visit. The beds appear to be *only* doubles unless you plan to sleep in the queen-sized sofa bed, which is definitely not comfortable. The room was also very drafty, which I expected, in the winter. It was also unpleasant to exit the room right onto the parking lot. It's motel style. VA Beach prices are a little steep for what you pay for, compared to other beach destinations. Overall the hotel is a 3.5-4, but during on-season, I would be hesitant to pay their prices.
