A wonderful stay for three nights at the Hampton Inn. Your staff as you check in were outstanding. There were three ladies whose names escape me but they were terrific. "It's easy to feel at home at this hotel"
The staff: Everyone we encountered - front desk staff, breakfast room staff, shuttle drivers - was friendly and helpful. The rooms: Comfy, clean, lots of space, Neutrogena bath products, coffee/tea supplies, iron/ironing board, hair dryer, free wifi ! Room comfort gets only a 4 because the air conditioning unit in the room is particularly noisy and […] makes a big clunk that shakes the wall when the unit shuts off in Auto mode. My stay was in two parts so I had two different rooms and the unit was equally noisy in both rooms. The extras: breakfast buffet included (not gourmet, but edible and convenient), coffee bar in the lobby where you can make a cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate any time, convenient business center when you need to print the show tickets you bought online, free wifi everywhere! "AAA member promotion denied"
booked hotel room at Hampton in New York at JFK airport via Expedia. found out about AAA member discount another extra 10% off on hotel's website. thought the hotel will apply it when arrived. told by staff that the rate if booked at hotel is much higher, and therefore even with 10 % off, it would still be more than the current rate that we are getting. […] when I went back to the room, I checked on the hotel's website again and found the same offer still available. Expedia rate same as hotel rate on their website, but hotel website offered 10% off for AAA members. when to front desk again, they say I paid through Expedia. I said I have not paid yet, which they also were able to verify. in the end, they denied the discount to me. I was not satisfied with the hotel's response. Hampton even has the policy in which "if you are not 100% satisfied, you do not have to pay", of course, the hotel staff ignored me anyway. when I woke up in the morning the next day, the invoice is slipped underneath the room door, with same expedia price and no discount applied. maybe will try CourtYard Marriot next time, which happens to be next door. "Read the small print"
Turns out I signed a document that allowed the Hampton Inn in Jamaica, NY to charge me an advance for incidentals on top of my anticipated one night room charge. I had no incidentals for my stay there. It's one of the "read the fine print" lessons that I should have heeded, but didn't. I only found out after I called the hotel when reconciling my account […] and found that my charge was many, many dollars higher than the rate I confirmed through Hotels.com. That extra charge will stay on my account for 7 - 10 days according to the hotel and then it will reconcile with the zero in incidental charges that I actually had and be credited out of my account. That's a sweet deal for Hampton Inn. I imagine the interest they collect on these advanced “incidental “ funds on 175,000 guestrooms worldwide for a 7 - 10 day period, is not chump change. "Clean, affordable and located near JFK"
I spent a night with my family at this hotel between flights from Europe and towards Arizona while the early January 2014 Nor'easter struck the East Coast. This is a good hotel, very reasonably priced and excellent for a night layoff in New York. My husband chose this hotel based solely on other reviews and the fact that it claimed to offer a shuttle from JFK. I was flying with a 3 yr old, as well as being pregnant at the time, so limiting the amount of lifting the luggage was important for me. When my flight landed I called the hotel and requested a shuttle pick up. I was informed that I would […] first need to take the airtran and get off a station in order to be picked up somewhere away from the airport itself. This defeated the entire point of finding a hotel with an airport shuttle as I would be lugging our bags around on and off subways anyway since they don't actually come to the airport. I chose to pay a taxi and arrived at the hotel with the drivers help unloading the bags. After check-in I asked if someone would be able to help me with our bags to the room. The receptionist just pointed out a cart I could use, which again meant me lifting our heavy bags onto and off the cart. The next morning when preparing for the shuttle to at least take us to the airport, I loaded the bags myself onto a cart and headed downstairs to wait. The shuttle arrived and began loading everyones bags onto the bus. It was overcrowded and he wasn't handling the bags with any care at all, trying to pack as many on as possible. I chose to stay behind rather than risk cramming into the bus and causing injury to the baby. Ended up with a taxi again...Their shuttle is a joke and false advertisement. "Late check in and early departure from JFK"
Although you can see the airport from the hotel, major traffic separates these 2 worlds. We did have shuttle pickup but they pick up from a central location, Federal Center, which requires a bit of a hike and a ride on the Air Tran. Once there, we were met by a wonderful driver who made the hastle worth it.
