"Nice hotel with access to JFK and the city."
We traveled from Ohio and chose to stay here, instead of in the city. AT this time of year, it is too expensive to stay in the city. With a little research, we were able to find this hotel with free airport transfers. From the airport we took the AirTrain, and then transferred to one of the two subway stations. In the city, you pay higher prices for the hotel, have huge parking fees, and still need the subway for certain areas of interest. At this Hampton Inn at JFK, you get free parking, free wifi, and a free breakfast. The airport transfer only takes a few minutes. The hotel staff is very helpful, and if you aren't familiar with how things work, they will gladly assist you. I encourage tipping the maids and the hotel shuttle drivers, as they put up with a lot. "Falls way short on customer service"
I am frustrated by the lack of response from all levels of the staff. I checked out on Monday to realize my 3yr old left her stuffed animal. I kept getting the run-around (the manager is on the floor, Housekeeping is not in, leave a message, etc). It took 11 phone calls over the space of 12 hours before I learned that the housekeeper who cleaned our […] room was off and no one knew if she'd found the puppy. How ridiculous that there's not a centrally located lost & found for employees to leave items for retrieval by the customer. I called the corporate office, which says they'll get back to you in 72 hours. That was Tuesday, today's Saturday and they have yet to respond to me. I left messages for both hotel managers, Trudy & Jason, and none of them had the courtesy to respond. I tolerated burnt omelettes & room not vacuumed, but when they refuse to assist in locating my child's toy, I am frustrated beyond belief. It took me calling the corporate office again and them connecting me to the front desk for an employee there to become responsive and start helping. Even then, it took another day to get the stuffed puppy due to an employee who took the keys to the cabinet home with her. Wow! This staff is so blatantly unprofessional & unconcerned about follow up. The room and my stay was okay overall but I would not stay here again due to this experience. We stayed at hotel for a week. The stay at hotel was great. It's a bit far from Manhattan, but the city is accessible using AirTrain & Subway. Hotel has shuttle to drop/pick you at JFK AirTrain station (Federal Circle). The shuttle runs very 15-30 mins. The staff: Everyone we encountered - front desk staff, breakfast room staff, shuttle drivers - was friendly and helpful. The rooms: Comfy, clean, lots of space, Neutrogena bath products, coffee/tea supplies, iron/ironing board, hair dryer, free wifi ! Room comfort gets only a 4 because the air conditioning unit in the room is particularly noisy and […] makes a big clunk that shakes the wall when the unit shuts off in Auto mode. My stay was in two parts so I had two different rooms and the unit was equally noisy in both rooms. The extras: breakfast buffet included (not gourmet, but edible and convenient), coffee bar in the lobby where you can make a cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate any time, convenient business center when you need to print the show tickets you bought online, free wifi everywhere! "AAA member promotion denied"
booked hotel room at Hampton in New York at JFK airport via Expedia. found out about AAA member discount another extra 10% off on hotel's website. thought the hotel will apply it when arrived. told by staff that the rate if booked at hotel is much higher, and therefore even with 10 % off, it would still be more than the current rate that we are getting. […] when I went back to the room, I checked on the hotel's website again and found the same offer still available. Expedia rate same as hotel rate on their website, but hotel website offered 10% off for AAA members. when to front desk again, they say I paid through Expedia. I said I have not paid yet, which they also were able to verify. in the end, they denied the discount to me. I was not satisfied with the hotel's response. Hampton even has the policy in which "if you are not 100% satisfied, you do not have to pay", of course, the hotel staff ignored me anyway. when I woke up in the morning the next day, the invoice is slipped underneath the room door, with same expedia price and no discount applied. maybe will try CourtYard Marriot next time, which happens to be next door.
