Hampton-Inn at JFK it´s an excellent hotel for business or family travel in NY. Rooms are clean and all features and commodities work. Good points are: Free Wifi at room, Free parking lots --although a bit busy--, good brunch breakfast it´s basic but good duality. We stayed at hotel for a week. The stay at hotel was great. It's a bit far from Manhattan, but the city is accessible using AirTrain & Subway. Hotel has shuttle to drop/pick you at JFK AirTrain station (Federal Circle). The shuttle runs very 15-30 mins. I would recommend to call hotel for pickup, since, late nights, the frequency of shuttles are less. […] One day, we had to wait for a 30 mins and still there was no shuttle. When we arrived late in the evening after a European return flight the room assigned was for smoking. Being non smokers, exhausted and having made non smoking arrangements we were not too happy. They said the booking agent had not specified non smoking.(We thought all NY public buildings were now non smoking) At first they were going to put a device […] in the room to clean the air which would have taken some time,we agreed as one of us has a smoke allergy. The staff: Everyone we encountered - front desk staff, breakfast room staff, shuttle drivers - was friendly and helpful. The rooms: Comfy, clean, lots of space, Neutrogena bath products, coffee/tea supplies, iron/ironing board, hair dryer, free wifi ! Room comfort gets only a 4 because the air conditioning unit in the room is particularly noisy and […] makes a big clunk that shakes the wall when the unit shuts off in Auto mode. My stay was in two parts so I had two different rooms and the unit was equally noisy in both rooms. The extras: breakfast buffet included (not gourmet, but edible and convenient), coffee bar in the lobby where you can make a cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate any time, convenient business center when you need to print the show tickets you bought online, free wifi everywhere! booked hotel room at Hampton in New York at JFK airport via Expedia. found out about AAA member discount another extra 10% off on hotel's website. thought the hotel will apply it when arrived. told by staff that the rate if booked at hotel is much higher, and therefore even with 10 % off, it would still be more than the current rate that we are getting. […] when I went back to the room, I checked on the hotel's website again and found the same offer still available. Expedia rate same as hotel rate on their website, but hotel website offered 10% off for AAA members. when to front desk again, they say I paid through Expedia. I said I have not paid yet, which they also were able to verify. in the end, they denied the discount to me. I was not satisfied with the hotel's response. Hampton even has the policy in which "if you are not 100% satisfied, you do not have to pay", of course, the hotel staff ignored me anyway. when I woke up in the morning the next day, the invoice is slipped underneath the room door, with same expedia price and no discount applied. maybe will try CourtYard Marriot next time, which happens to be next door. "Read the small print"
Turns out I signed a document that allowed the Hampton Inn in Jamaica, NY to charge me an advance for incidentals on top of my anticipated one night room charge. I had no incidentals for my stay there. It's one of the "read the fine print" lessons that I should have heeded, but didn't. I only found out after I called the hotel when reconciling my account […] and found that my charge was many, many dollars higher than the rate I confirmed through Hotels.com. That extra charge will stay on my account for 7 - 10 days according to the hotel and then it will reconcile with the zero in incidental charges that I actually had and be credited out of my account. That's a sweet deal for Hampton Inn. I imagine the interest they collect on these advanced “incidental “ funds on 175,000 guestrooms worldwide for a 7 - 10 day period, is not chump change.
