Looking past the the old and trashy rooms, this hotel offers nothing! The staff was extremely rude. The front desk attempted to keep most of my deposit because another person exited as the same time as myself so the clerk argued and argued that I needed to pay for an extra person. "Domestic abuse & drunks"
In the room, one floor above mine, there was two hours of domestic abuse that kept me awake all night. In addition to that, there were drunk people kicking my motel room door because they couldn't remember which room was there. None of the lamps worked, the power outlets weren't working, and one of my pillow cases had lipstick stains all over it. Not […] a good experience. All night in that motel I wised all the transient people outside my window would stop cursing at eachother. Not worth saving all that money for such a run down motel. The room was very spacious and included a pantry area complete with fridge, microwave, counter and cabinets, table and chairs. There was a person at the front desk 24 hours a day. "Fine for the price"
There were no towels in my room. I discovered this getting out of the shower. The front desk probably would have given some to me, but it was a little annoying. "Budget hotel, good location"
This hotel is located right next to the transit lines, easy to reach from almost anywhere. Good pizza place next door. Housekeeping did not make up our beds, which I thought was weird. But it was a fine place to stay for a few nights if you're not expecting luxury.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This place was one of the worst I ever stayed in. It was filthy, bedsheets were stained, bathroom was unfit for human use and there was a kitchen adjoining the bedroom that looked out on the adjoining street with no curtains. It looked like a crackhouse but I am probably insulting crackhouses. No TV or hair dryers. Closet doors had no doorknobs and […] the original lock was replaced with an insubstantial lock. Other guests complained of no electricity and showers that would not shut off. The place would make a great location for a "slasher movie". After one nite they moved me to an affiliated hotel which was marginally better. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable and well-located"
There seemed to be a lot of young people staying here and maybe making a racket (we saw signs to this effect), but we didn't notice a lot of noise. We did see a beer can in the hallway, and it had a little bit of a roughness around the edges, but at that location and that price, it was a very good deal and quite comfortable. The folks behind the counter […] were very nice and helpful. The hotel is located right next to a public transportation stop, and there are a few restaurants and bars very close-by; we were able to find a pita sandwich in the middle of the night. booked because it was downtown, affordable & had a restaurant/bar attached. We were traveling with children and wanted to be able to unwind safety while they went to bed. "Convenient and cheap!"
Great place to stay if you're looking for something cheap near downtown. Right next to metro and very convenient.Genuine Expedia guest review
My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. We received an infestation of bed bugs all over our bodies. We are normally the type that will push the envelope on a hotel. You dont stay there that much, its just a bed, etc. The location was great, the price was great. I could even stand that the rooms showed significant wear and tear. The staff […] tha twe spoke with were pleasant although they didnt do much. The garbage was emptied one day but that was the extent of our service. We had to ask for TP and some other room consumables. EVEN STILL I would have said its not THAT bad and considering the location and price I would stay there again. NO MORE! This is the worst case of bed bugs I have ever seen. This hotel just bumped to the 2nd worst I have EVER stayed at. "I Wouldn't Stay Here Again if You Paid Me To."
This place was horrible: -The beds are like sleeping on rock slabs -Tthe room temperature was either too cold or too hot -There are only 10 open parking spots in a TINY sparking lot and if they are full, you have to pay to park on the street -You can't have visitors past 10 pm, and if you have any extra people staying in your room, you pay an extra […] $15/night -The towels were dingy and yellowed. -The room was cramped and uncomfortable. -Staff was not friendly. "Convenience nice for the price!"
They had the better water pressure of the downtown motels around Portland State, making for a refreshing hangover shower! The beds were comfortable, but the rooms were kind of chilly. Since we were just in our rooms to sleep and to get ready to go out, the street noise did not bother us. Parking was not fun, the hotel offers limited spaces, otherwise […] you are at the mercy of PSU's nazi parking brigade (potentially $43.00 fines). The convenience was well worth the price, located near the Max/trolley/Bus Mall and walking distance from the heart of downtown we only used the car to get there and leave. "Downtown Value Inn"
Not bad for a no-frills hotel. Friendly staff, and decent price. Great location downtown, but lousy parking garage. Also, every appliance in the room was SUPER loud (heat, bathroom fan). Could use some more modern appliances, but for the price it was a decent hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When we checked in, the guy was all business, but very friendly. The rooms were very standard and nothing special. We did have to plug in the microwave and refrigerator in both rooms. In my room, the power cable to the microwave was not long enough to reach the outlet. We went out the first night to do a pub crawl for my birthday. The location of this […] joint was perfect. Made walking to and from the bars very easy. The second night, we all were too exhausted to go out, so we grabbed a bottle of wine and played some card games in the room. We called it a night about 1am. At about 3am, there was a knock on my door. I answered it and it was the police. They said that they got a noise complaint from my room! I assured the officers that it could not have been us. As an after thought, it may have been us, but the police arrived two hours late and we definitely were not as rowdy as some rooms around us as we went to bed. Overall the room wasn't bad. The facility is old, bathrooms have been updated but rest of room not so much. Lighting was poor at best, and poorly located. "leaves a bit to be desired"
Location was terrific. For rooms being updgraded/refurbished in 2009, hope they did not pay too much. Very poor workmanship on tile (numerous crumbling crevise's visible) in BR, bath tub faucet was not stationary on the wall, furniture looked liked various old (not antique) items not matching from a garage sale. It provided shelter, soap and towels […] but NO other amenities like an alarm clock or hairdryer. For the $$ not worth it in my opinion. Did have a TV frig and micro which we did not need. Hall carpeting made you dizzy and a strong cooking oil odor was in the hallway both days. Parking garage very difficult to maneuver in- actually was told to 'back out' onto 5th street traffic due to one way exit being blocked. The angle of lhe lot back ward was nearly a 45 degree to 90 dgree uphill. Also had to wake up front counter man who was deep asleep at the counter to check out at 8AM.. If you want a good decent price room, downtown, this could be the place. If your picky about things, think again. The room was clean, the bath was nice, needed some cleaning, the beds were clean, but the mattresses were worn some. But overall a decent place to stay for the price and location. Desk help was good, inet was good and pizza and beer next […] door to the hotel. Parking was tight, but reminds me of european parking garages. If you have a big car, street parking will be needed. "A motel not a hotel"
Most likely because this reservation was a "deal," we were placed in the oldest section of this MOTEL. No elevator and about 15+ steps up to the "first" floor. Someone not in good shape would have trouble if luggage was heavy. Room small, bathroom small with no place to put your make-up, etc. No coffee/tea service and no hair dryer. Asked the desk about […] the hair dryer and was told I would have to go to the desk in the AM and request one. Had fridge, microwave and air conditioner. The air conditioner was a good thing because you could turn it on and it would dampen or erase noise from parking lot right outside or folks in other units partying. When returned after more than 12 hours, found bathroom had been cleaned and new towels, etc., but the bed hadn't been changed or made. Nothing like coming "home" to an unmade bed. Lobby small with very little info about the city or what we could do there or how to get around. Would definitely never stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good enough choice for Oregon Brewer's Festival"
We've stayed at this hotel 2 different years. It has free parking (some) and the rates were reasonable for the time of year. We walk from it to attend the annual Oregon Brewer's Festival (20 minute walk). The rooms were fine, the AC in our room was marginal. Needs to be recharged. The front desk provided decent instructions on how to use Portlands Tram […] System which has stops very very close to the hotel. Room maintenance was our only complaint. The cheap faucet on the shower came loose, making it impossible to alter the temperature of the water. Simultaneously the shower drain slowed a LOT. Not fun. I fixed the shower long enough to get rinsed off and informed the front desk. They didn't exactly seem surprised. So, if you're looking to attend the OBFestival, check and make sure the shower works when you check in and you'll enjoy your stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"don't even think about it"
I said, "Don't even think about it." Dirty and disgusting. Bugs. Stains. Smells. Arrived and no one at the desk. "Not worth the trouble!"
My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and each night was very different. The first night's stay was awful - they put us in a room full of smoke, bathroom had not been updated in 20+ years, new paint and carpet needed throughout the whole room - it felt absolutely gross - even my husband was surprised! Then we moved to a different room the next night, […] and it felt more like a normal hotel - the bathroom had nice tiling, but the shower wasn't the cleanest. I was expecting to see lots of critters, but I'm happy to report that we did not. We had to spend extra money to park on the street or in parking lots surrounding the hotel because there were only 14 or 15 spaces and at least 30 rooms. Also, there are no elevators and it is a 3 story hotel (fortunately, we didn't have to go beyond the 2nd floor). We stayed there because it was walking distance to a meeting my husband had to attend, but we will not stay there again. There is an Econolodge one block away that looked like it had plenty of parking and possibly more updated. Since it was high season in Portland, I'm sure many people want to save money by staying here, but you might want to spend the extra dough and stay somewhere else - this place in unpredictable. The pizza place next door was good, though. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice Management, Great location, Great rate."
For an affordable and awesomely located motel, this is your place. We stayed there 8 nights while locating a place to move from the mid-west. The motel is next door to a tasty pizza place offering $2 pizza slice nights, rotating from cheese to Hawaiian. Yum! Also the FREE green, yellow, and streetcar lines are less than 30 seconds from your hotel room. […] Convenience. PSU is just a few blocks away as well as the Cultural district within a .25mile. We made use of the refrigerator in the room to store cheap and fresh produce from the many farmer's markets available in town along with a rotation of food cart visits! The room itself is well used, but still usable. Management is extremely nice and ready to answer questions if needed. For the price and the location its a great savings! "Room was better than we had expected."
We chose this hotel because of it's location and price. We had read some previous negative reviews and were prepared for the worst. "Served the purpose of being cheap"
This was a cheap hotel, and my goal was to save money. In that sense, I was successful, and I would consider staying there again due to the convenience of location and price. When I arrived, there was no one at the front desk, and I had to wait 5-10 minutes for someone to show up. There was no toilet paper when I checked in, although when I reported […] it (again, after a 5-10 minute wait since the front desk was unoccupied), they did bring some promptly, as well as the two extra pillows that I requested. Room was dusty. The only day that I didn't put the "privacy please" notice out, they replaced towels and cleaned the bathroom, but did not make the bed. A switch on the wall controlled numerous outlets, and they turned it off, letting my laptop completely drain it's battery. Comforter was frayed and sheets were very thin. One day someone was banging on a neighboring door at 6:30 in the morning and shouting to the person inside. They told me at check-in that the room I was in was in a quiet location. It was on the second floor facing the street corner, with both the light rail and streetcar going by. Perhaps most seriously, there was only one way out down the hall - the other way led to an exit door that had a cover over the handle that locked it. I can't help but wonder if that doesn't violate fire code. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Would never stay here again"
When I arrived at the Downtown Value Inn, there was no one at the desk and no one came even after ringing a bell several times. Finally a worker walked by and found the front desk person for me. Then they didn't have a room ready for me even though I had called an hour before on my way from the airport and they said it would be ready no problem. Then […] I went to my room and it was beyond crappy. All of the furniture was dirty and/or worn. The bathroom reeked of urine. When I started the tub faucet black chunks came out. The white towels were yellow/brown in spots, and I didn't want to touch anything. My room was on the corner right near one of the street cars so it is fairly loud. In the middle of the night my first night I was awoken at 12:30 am to slapping sounds, screaming, and banging noises from the room behind my bed that eventually stopped. While alright for my short stay, I would never stay here again and strongly recommend AGAINST any young female staying there by herself. The location near downtown was ideal for my stay but that was the only plus. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
