"Not worth the trouble!"
My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and each night was very different. The first night's stay was awful - they put us in a room full of smoke, bathroom had not been updated in 20+ years, new paint and carpet needed throughout the whole room - it felt absolutely gross - even my husband was surprised! Then we moved to a different room the next night, […] and it felt more like a normal hotel - the bathroom had nice tiling, but the shower wasn't the cleanest. I was expecting to see lots of critters, but I'm happy to report that we did not. We had to spend extra money to park on the street or in parking lots surrounding the hotel because there were only 14 or 15 spaces and at least 30 rooms. Also, there are no elevators and it is a 3 story hotel (fortunately, we didn't have to go beyond the 2nd floor). We stayed there because it was walking distance to a meeting my husband had to attend, but we will not stay there again. There is an Econolodge one block away that looked like it had plenty of parking and possibly more updated. Since it was high season in Portland, I'm sure many people want to save money by staying here, but you might want to spend the extra dough and stay somewhere else - this place in unpredictable. The pizza place next door was good, though. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient for one night stay"
Very convenient location, overall hotel clean but a bit grungy. Impossibly small parking spaces make it very difficult to park in the hotel's garage - you may be lucky enough to find parking on the street.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Management, Great location, Great rate."
For an affordable and awesomely located motel, this is your place. We stayed there 8 nights while locating a place to move from the mid-west. The motel is next door to a tasty pizza place offering $2 pizza slice nights, rotating from cheese to Hawaiian. Yum! Also the FREE green, yellow, and streetcar lines are less than 30 seconds from your hotel room. […] Convenience. PSU is just a few blocks away as well as the Cultural district within a .25mile. We made use of the refrigerator in the room to store cheap and fresh produce from the many farmer's markets available in town along with a rotation of food cart visits! The room itself is well used, but still usable. Management is extremely nice and ready to answer questions if needed. For the price and the location its a great savings! "Great location, lack of towels..."
If you want a cheap hotel in downtown Portland, this'll do. We asked for towels one day and were told no... that was funny. Otherwise, the room was fine enough and right on public transit lines which was nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Room was better than we had expected."
We chose this hotel because of it's location and price. We had read some previous negative reviews and were prepared for the worst. The room was better than we expected with evidence of some recent remodeling in the bathroom. There was no maid service and we had to ask for clean towels but since we were only there three nights it was no big deal. Parking […] was tight but it was included in the price. OK place if you're on a budget. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Served the purpose of being cheap"
This was a cheap hotel, and my goal was to save money. In that sense, I was successful, and I would consider staying there again due to the convenience of location and price. When I arrived, there was no one at the front desk, and I had to wait 5-10 minutes for someone to show up. There was no toilet paper when I checked in, although when I reported […] it (again, after a 5-10 minute wait since the front desk was unoccupied), they did bring some promptly, as well as the two extra pillows that I requested. Room was dusty. The only day that I didn't put the "privacy please" notice out, they replaced towels and cleaned the bathroom, but did not make the bed. A switch on the wall controlled numerous outlets, and they turned it off, letting my laptop completely drain it's battery. Comforter was frayed and sheets were very thin. One day someone was banging on a neighboring door at 6:30 in the morning and shouting to the person inside. They told me at check-in that the room I was in was in a quiet location. It was on the second floor facing the street corner, with both the light rail and streetcar going by. Perhaps most seriously, there was only one way out down the hall - the other way led to an exit door that had a cover over the handle that locked it. I can't help but wonder if that doesn't violate fire code. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Would never stay here again"
When I arrived at the Downtown Value Inn, there was no one at the desk and no one came even after ringing a bell several times. Finally a worker walked by and found the front desk person for me. Then they didn't have a room ready for me even though I had called an hour before on my way from the airport and they said it would be ready no problem. Then […] I went to my room and it was beyond crappy. All of the furniture was dirty and/or worn. The bathroom reeked of urine. When I started the tub faucet black chunks came out. The white towels were yellow/brown in spots, and I didn't want to touch anything. My room was on the corner right near one of the street cars so it is fairly loud. In the middle of the night my first night I was awoken at 12:30 am to slapping sounds, screaming, and banging noises from the room behind my bed that eventually stopped. While alright for my short stay, I would never stay here again and strongly recommend AGAINST any young female staying there by herself. The location near downtown was ideal for my stay but that was the only plus. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Won't be going back"
We were going to the Keller Auditorium for a performance which is just 3 blocks from the hotel. It was very convenient.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great value, no problems"
We got a great deal on this hotel and had basically nothing to complain about. The guy at the desk was really nice and helpful in directing us around the neighborhood. It really is right downtown in a nice part of town. The room was very clean and the bathroom seemed to have been recently renovated. It was really sparsely furnished and decorated, but […] who cares? It had a mini fridge, TV and window, so you can't ask for too much more at this price. We were a little peeved that the bed was not a queen as advertised, so maybe call ahead to make sure you get a room with a bigger bed if that is important to you. "Too noisy!! But convenient !!"
We went to Portland for a two days trip. The location is excellent but it is too noisy . The parking lot is too small for my sedan. However, the room is clean and comfortableGenuine Expedia guest review

"Perfect Location"
My husband and I took a weekend trip to Portland and despite the bad reviews we wanted to stay at this hotel because of location and easy access to the free transportation the city has to offer. Let me start by saying I thought this was an awesome hotel, the staff was very helpful and the rooms were clean. The only problem we had was an overflowing […] toilet in tyhe first room we stayed in. The staff was more than happy to move us to a new room and we did not have any other issues. The pizza parlor/bar downstairs is awesome and there are several convenieve stores nearby. We would definately stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel is inexpensive and downtown accessible"
Hotel is inexpensive and downtown accessible....It is right next to the cable car and max lines....it is a no frills hotel (ladies bring a hairdryer) but its cheap and really all you need is a place to crash...I would stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Downtown Value Inn, Portland Oregon"
The hotel management was friendly, and for the price it was a good value. the only draw back was the loud music late into the night/ laughter from the pizza place with Karaoke downstairs, ask for a room further away from the pizza place. close to the excellent public tranportation.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I rang the bell and someone came to the front desk. They had my reservation. They told me to use the side door and no one would be at the desk after 9 pm, but they actually were. I was able to borrow an iron whenever I needed it. It is about .4 miles to the river (for runners!). I am used to hostel travel, so it was just nice to have a private room. […] Only complaints was the shower (very slow, inconsistent water temp and overflowed tray every time) and for some reason housekeeping didn't make the bed. Not bad for the cost and the location! There also are a number of food booths on 4th street with vegan fare that were awesome for a quik lunch grab. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"I've always loved Portland and there is always something to do."
I would say taking a stroll at McCall Park by the Willamette river. There is a lot to see. There is a new and limited time only sculpture called "Extinct Birds". There are resturants. There is also a Maritime Museum, Japanese Rock Gardin, the mast of a 1910 battle ship (which has a time capsule in it), there is a new solar powered toilet, and across […] the street is the worlds smallest park. The park is in the middle of a 4 lane road. The other thing I suggest is taking the Portland Walking Tours. They were great. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect place to stay if you dont like being in your hotel room"
Definitely not a nice hotel. But the location was great. We were able to take the free public transit everywhere we wanted to go in the downtown area. The room was clean enough. Might consider packing extra towels though. The cable TV sucks but I can watch tv at home. The rooms are quiet. Overall it was a satisfactory place to stay. The only draw back to this hotel was the parking area - it was a very narrow slot between sets of cement pillars - fortunately, I have a compact vehicle.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Its OK - 1.5 stars means basic"
It's a very basic hotel, that had a useful downtown location. If you are expecting a 3 star (or above) hotel - this is not for you. There is a lock on the door, a reasonably comfortable bed and an adequate bathroom. The lobby and hallways are very dated but the staff were helpful. Good location for the MAX light rail service (actually it runs past the […] window) Easy to navigate to/from airport. Other reviews suggested the area was sketchy, but we didn't notice that it was dicey. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Adequate comfort and cleanliness."
The location is great, friendly staff, quiet and safe neighbourhood. There are street cars take you to the city centre or if you prefer walking it's only about 10 mins. "It's getting better"
I stayed at this hotel for the Portland Marathon many years ago before the renovated it. It was a dive back then, but we needed a place to stay for the marathon. Since then they have renovated it. It's getting better, but I think of its past still haunts the halls (i.e. cigarette smell). For an overnight stay, it's fine. It's well situated next to the […] tramway and bus lines, and it's not too far of a walk to get to Pioneer Square. BTW, no check in before 3. And the parking can be a b*tch if you have a huge truck or a large car. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Downtown Value Inn in Portland, OR"
After having read the posted reviews, we still chose this hotel for it's close proximity to the Waterfront Blues Festival and partly because of it's price which included free parking. The staff is friendly and helpful, but our room, most especially the bathroom floor tiles, could have used a thorough cleaning. It was convenient being right at the end […] of the free transit lines as well as having the restaurant/pub downstairs with good, reasonably priced food. We didn't spend much time in the room, so it served our needs, but next time, we will book in one of the more vibrant neighbourhoods. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
