"Fairly convenient location nr Thames Sreet"
The only downside was the relatively noisy A/C unit. Otherwise, the hotel was clean and comfortable, and the staff were very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The Jailhouse Inn was such a pleasant surprise: conveniently located to shopping, one of the wharf's, and restaurants. It is clean, comfortable and accommodating with continental breakfast and office assistance re: questions about the area. We had a wonderful weekend getaway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location, Great Value, Great People"

This is just a really nice place to stay in Newport. The parking is easy and free, you can walk to everything located at the Harbor and if you have to use your car to go to the Mansions you can find an open spot when you return. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms on the second floor with a queen bed and it was fine. It was clean, had everything we needed(including a small refrigerator) and is fairly quiet considering its location. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. I thought the room rate during the week was very reasonable but it jumps substantially on the weekends as do the rates at other comparable hotels. We would not hesitate to stay here again. Newport is a good time.

Just spent a few days in Newport and had a great stay at The Jailhouse Inn! Perfectly located within walking distance of shops, restaurants & the warfare - we didn't use our car the entire time we were there. Parking was at no charge and plenty of spots were available, we were given a pass to put on our dash board when we checked in, fabulous! While the rooms aren't fancy they are very comfortable and had all that we needed, quite cozy. Breakfast was included and again while not fancy was perfect! Quite delicious and all we needed to start our day. Can't wait to come back!

What a great find! The rooms are just adorable, clean and.... perfect. The inn has its own parking which is a huge savings in Newport as you can walk from the inn to just about anywhere. The staff is incredibly attentive, and if you're an early riser, there is fresh coffee 24/7. The included continental breakfast is well above average and the wine & cheese hour on Saturday afternoons is just one of the many amenities that makes the Jailhouse in our favorite in Newport.
"One of the best locations."

This hotel was very cute. Everything you would need and super close to downtown. We didn't need to move our car at all! The only thing I would say is that the first room we were shown to was a two room suite type with a shared bath in the middle. The smell of bleach was very strong, the rooms were kind of small and there was no window you could open because both windows had air conditioning units in them. We asked for another room, and we were offered a large room with two double beds with one window you could open. The room faced the parking lot and you didn't really get a breeze, but at least I felt like I could air out the room a little. The breakfast is fine. Cereal, hard boiled eggs, yogurt. Worked for me. I would just recommend that the hotel not use such strong smelling cleaners in the baths. Especially with no ventilation. This place was fine for a couple of nights. GREAT location! I can't stress that enough!

Its not a luxury hotel so know that going in. The rooms are small but clean. Location good as waterfront within easy walking distance although neighborhood, while not dangerous, has a couple of bars right nearby and not sure I would want to walk around there late at night.

Christopher greeted us with a batch of warm cookies and that was the beginning of a lovely stay in Newport, RH. The front porch was a wonderful place to enjoy a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers after a day of walking and touring. Christopher's recommendations for dinner were perfect. The breakfast was quick, easy and satisfying. The bathroom was small but adequate. I didn't like the pillows but the bed was ok. Air conditioner was loud but I would stay there again for the location and service.

We stayed there at the end of May for our 25th anniversary and had a wonderful time. Our room was large and everyone was very friendly. Especially Toni the handyman who then set us up with the sister place on Martha's Vineyard for the weekend ! Never imagined we could get in such a nice place on such short notice. We were able to walk to the nice shops and restaurants. Will be going back there again.

My 3 friends and I recently spent a weekend in Newport, & needed a room with 2 full size beds, which were hard to find in a town full of inns & B&B's typically offering only rooms with 1 king or queen bed. The Jailhouse Inn had the perfect size room for our group of four. The space was sparsely furnished/decorated but very clean. The Inn is beautifully kept; the staff is super accommodating, knowledgeable & friendly. The breakfast offered is just enough to get your day going & the cookies & iced tea in the afternoon were a great added bonus. Beautiful space, convenient location & great front porch! The inn has ample parking, a bicycle rack and is within walking distance of almost everything you might need.
"The ONLY place to stay in Newport"
Having been to Newport several times, we had tried other places including a chain hotel. On our first Newport visit, we only made it one night in the chain hotel after stumbling upon this inn. We couldn't have made a better choice. The history of the place is awesome, and so are the old bars still left in the place. It's charming, despite being a former jail. Location: Fantastic. Walkable to the main street of shops and restaurants, but also the harbour. You are enough off the main street so that you don't hear the "bustle" of the town. Also, you are across from the White Horse Tavern, which is an awesome historical tavern. Make sure to visit across the street before leaving. Rooms: We have stayed in 3 different rooms here at the inn. All were immaculate. One on the first floor still had the original jail bars in it. Too cool! Staff: Very friendly and accommodating. After the manager saw that we had 2 children in tow, she gave us a room which was almost like a suite---all one room, but with a bathroom separating the bedrooms. She was sensitive to our needs and made a great decision to put us in that room! We decided to stay an extra night after enjoying Newport and the inn. However, the room we were in was booked; we had to move rooms. We were allowed to "check out" but leave our stuff in the room, and the staff moved our stuff to the new room while we were out and about that morning. Food: You receive a continental breakfast every morning. Fresh fruit, muffins, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, cereals, etc were all wonderful! (And, in the afternoon, there are fresh chocolate chip cookies in there. Don't miss them.) There are apples and oranges sitting in there to take as a pick-me-up if you need them. Hot water is also available to make a cup of tea any time of the day. The only downside of the breakfast room are the two-seater tables. If you have a large family, you may need to grab breakfast and head back to your room---or even better--to the porch. The breakfast room can get crowded and busy, but we had a good time talking to the other guests. Tip: If you're a light sleeper, ask for a 2nd floor room or a room at the back of the inn. Late night revelers can be loud walking out on the sidewalk. There is no elevator. If you have heavy luggage or trouble with stairs, make sure you ask for a first floor room. You can't go wrong with this place.
"We loved this place!"

Over Easter, we made our annual trek to Newport, but decided to try a different lodging option (see Hyatt Newport) from where we usually stay. I had seen this hotel many times, and my husband's interest was piqued, so we booked. I am so glad we did! The room was spacious (with two adults and two teens, it can get mushy!) because they put us in a room that would comfortably suit our family. We were right off the lobby, but there was never much noise. In fact, I spent a lot of time in the common room doing work on the trip (ugh!) and really enjoyed it. Proximity to everything is PERFECT (Easy walk to the shops; quick drive to the mansions/cliffwalk and beach) and having the free parking was a huge plus. The staff is gracious, and thorough! (George makes your room sparkle). The breakfast was very good and non-standard. The afternoon snack was a hit with the kids. Overall, we really were pleased. We would definitely stay again!
