We loved Franklin Feel the Sound! We chose it for one night during our four in Rome purely because it was within a short walk of the Vatican, and we had an early Papal Audience the next morning. When the taxi pulled up to the hotel on a side street and we looked through the glass front door to a staircase, we thought "Yikes - mistake? Tiny hotel, looks […] like no elevator..." Wrong! It's a meticulously maintained boutique hotel (with an elevator, just not visible from the street) - welcoming lobby with complimentary water or juice, great music-themed decor, quiet and comfortable, wonderful bath amenities (and a full bathtub and shower - rare for European hotel). We stayed 4 days in Rome and loved our hotel. Rome is a bustling, busy, chaotic loud place and at the end of touring and walking every day, we were so happy to come back to our quiet Vatican City hotel. The hotel is small and our room was tiny. It was about the size of a dorm room as we had 1 queen bed. I did see other rooms which were bigger which […] had 2 twin beds. The bathroom was small but adequate. The shower stall was quite small though. Don't drop the soap, or you'll have to open a shower door to bend down to get it! We initially only booked this hotel because it was suppose to have a disco ball in the bathroom. Well, ours did not have a disco ball, although I know others did. We were disappointed with that minor detail, but overall loved the place. The hotel was cozy and the beds slept well. Breakfast consisted of meats, cheeses, bread, fruit, yogurt and pastries. If you are looking for bars and nightlife this is not the place to stay. However, we found several very nice restaurants. Across the street from the hotel was Taverna Romana. The food, wine and service were amazing. Try their cheesecake! They were also gay friendly. Taverna Vegitariana around the corner was very good as well. The hotel is about 7-8 walking blocks from the nearest train stop. Take the red line train and get off at Ottiviano. Then its an easy neighborhood walk with tree lined streets up to the hotel. Franklin Feels the Sound= worst hotel ever. The check in process went smoothly. There were snacks, which were nice. Everything from that point forward went downhill. We were assigned room 304. This HAD to be the smallest room in the hotel, maybe the size of a walk-in closet. It was dark and had a moldy smell. I thought we were assigned the wrong room. […] I went back down the front desk, explained the problem, and presented the receipt. The man apologized, switched keys for room 404. I happily trotted upstairs. Well, we move up to room 404, and it's the SAME exact room!! Yep, duped by the man downstairs. I wanted to enjoy my time in Rome, so we didn't feel like having another disagreement with him. It gets worse, when I showered the next day, the phone booth sized shower leaked all over the bathroom floor. I told the front desk woman, and she said that the cleaning person would check on it. When I returned later, they told us it could not be fixed and left us extra towels to mop up the mess!!! Each day the moldy smell got worse and worse, we had to open the window and turn up the AC just to remove the smell. Breakfast was completely lacking, not even worth making the trip downstairs. The hair dryer was a joke, glad I had my own. Overall, I felt that the staff was rude, the hotel was dirty, and I caution you to never, ever stay here. I don't understand how this place has good reviews. Our room did NOT ressemble the one in the picture. Buyer beware. Read more

We would have rated this hotel higher if our air condition worked. Someone on the floor apparently turned off their unit and it apparently affects all rooms on that floor. The staff said, "sorry but only one person knows how to fix it and they won't be in until the next morning." It was 90-95 out that day and it was aweful. Not a good reply given the […] situation. We found this place by searching around the Vatican Area of Rome. This ended up being a short 15 minute walk. Down one of the main streets with lots of shops and places to eat. The hotel itself looks small, from the street. We almost missed the sign and the double glass doors to enter. The staff was really nice and eager to help with whatever we needed. […] They stored our luggage for free since we arrived 3 hours early. They helped set up an early morning cab ride to the airport as well. The rooms are different. Wood floors, white walls, a velvet blanket and a sheet hung from the ceiling like a canopy bed. High end stereo and tv were in our room. We also had a blue light and disco ball in our bathroom. The end tables were snare drums. It was a pleasant change from the ordinary. Both my wife and I loved how different it was. Everything was clean and nothing was broken or missing. For the price, it was well worth it. I say give it a try. I found this hotel on Expedia by pure luck! It was such a gem, I'd go back in a heartbeat and would tell any of my friends it is a must stay place. The room was very nice, facing out to the street but was incredibly quiet. The bed was comfy and everything was in very good condition. Nice fluffy towels, which is always a plus with me. It was a short […] walk to St. Peter's and the Vatican museum and the neighborhood surrounding is very nice and we found a great place for dinner two blocks away. The garden patio behind the hotel was a great place to sit and decompress with a bottle of wine after a long day of sightseeing. Loved the music themes, although we didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel. Room and bed were very comfortable. Great, friendly service. Big difference in the size of the single and double rooms. Single is only 8 feet wide, so with a bed, not a lot of room for luggage. Only bad experience was with the arranged transportation to the airport. First driver […] refused to take us due to the amount of our luggage. A second driver quickly arrived, but "tried" to charge us more money. Hotel is looking into this. We stayed at room 404 September 28-October3, and as my boyfriend put it, you really must like the person you are sharing the room with, otherwise it could be disastrous! I loved the sound system in our room with all the free music you woudl need to listen. We had a room overlooking the court yard, it was great, and very quite. Our room had high ceilings, canopied bed, and a large window overlooking the street out front. The music theme was fun and the disco light in the bathroom made for a great nightlight. Breakfast was included and, with the fresh boiled eggs and espresso service, went beyond just a regular continental style offering. Franklin feel the sound is located in the Prati district in Rome. The Prati district is a suburb north of the vatican. The hotel is close to the Vatican, which made it the perfect location for us. Franklin is located in a residential neighborhood Very close to the Vatican, metro stops and some inexpensive neighborhood restaurants. If you don't mind being away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place to stay. The rooms were very comfortable, breakfast was good and plentyful and the staff was very nice and helpful.

No one seems to have ever heard of it and when all was said and done, it is very near the public subway system and was walkable when leaving.
