Hotel Des Arts - Montreal

This hotel is neither great nor horrible. It's pretty average. It is however relativity inexpensive for the location it's in. If you're planning on going out a lot and just using the hotel to sleep, this is the hotel for you. It is very close to downtown and near the metro. I was very satisfied with this hotel and would recommend it!

I was surprised at how great the hotel actually was. The service was very friendly and prompt and it was close enough that my friend and I could walk almost everywhere we wanted to go. The room was clean and quiet and we found that we would definitely stay there again.

The worst hotel that I've been in the last 10 years. Surrounding neighborhood is scaring. The sheets have holes. The hotel smells very bad. Seriously, this hotel needs a huge renovation. The only good part: people was very kind.

Great location, within walking distance to many attractions in Montreal, including Ste Catherine's street with its bars and shopping, and Old Montreal. Nice staff, clean enough room. Basic breakfast, but nice enough given the price. No parking, but there are a number of above ground and underground lots nearby. Definitely would stay here again.

The windows in the room open - a plus. Smelled like bug spray in the room. I was with friends and their room smelled the same. At least they admit they have/had a bug problem! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It is an older hotel and definitely needs some TLC to get it looking better. The room was very small and required my husband to crawl over the bed if I was sitting at the desk.

My only complaint about the hotel is it is hard to initially find when you are completely unfamiliar with the city. Other than that, clean spacious rooms, close to everything, friendly staff, and secured entrance at night. A closer gym would be nice instead of a $10 cab ride, but that's just me being a body builder. I will be back

Surrounding area is dirty and rough around the edges. Good location for metro hop-on and St. Laurent shopping in unique shops. This is certainly a "two star" hotel. The towels are not fancy. The carpets and rooms are a little old. One of the bedspreads in our room (not sheet or blanket) had small holes. But for the price and location, there is really not a better deal. Our room was very nice, the staff was very quick to respond to a problem with our key cards and came when […] they said they would come. They did speak English, though we did also try to speak French to them (it is a French speaking city, after all!) The room was a little stuffy when we got there , but the AC worked quickly to remedy that. We had a bathroom in the room. The breakfast was good, if a bit simple. Of course, with the money you are saving by staying here you could easily go and eat elsewhere if you would like a bigger breakfast. This hotel is about two blocks walk from Rue St. Denis, where there are lots of restaurants and night life. It is near the subway. There is parking available on the street, and while there was evidence of windows being smashed in (did not happen to us), I understand this is currently a problem throughout Montreal and I don't understand how this is the hotel's fault. If you are worried, you can park in a nearby garage and walk. Bottom line, if you want a nice, clean, simple, friendly hotel to stay while you explore Montreal this is great. If you want new decorations, the latest TV, and cushy linens and towels, you might want to spend your money on a four or five star hotel. Read more

Day 1: Checkin. - Staff hardly speaks english - Staff requested $100 deposit, cash or debit card charge. No credit cards. - Not very clean, funky smelling lobby - Dirty elevator - No arrows/signs/rooms navigation - Funky smell in the room - Dirty bed covers - DIRTY windows, had to close curtains so I won't see them - Old furniture, old TV - Dirty ceiling […] with cloth traces of someone trying to clean it, but never finished. And now get ready for the final "impressions". Day 2: Checkout. - Free breakfast: Cold croisant (yeah, you can warm it up in microwave), a bowl of cereal, coffee in plastic shot glass. - Extra long checkout if you don't speak french. - Picking up our brand new Jeep from the Secure Private Parking lot on the back of the Hotel: TWO SIDE WINDOWS BUSTED! Got exactly what I asked for: a nice, clean little hotel room to spend the weekend in. It wasn't anything fancy, but the bed was comfortable and the location was SUPER convenient - right near chinatown and Rue St. Laurent. We weren't exactly in the room except to sleep, and I actually found the service to be quite helpful when I was asking for directions […] and such. Overall I was very pleased. I came down to this hotel with 3 buddies to celebrate my 25th bday. Room was extremely cheap got it through online deals. Rooms were good for the price. Extremely close to all the amazing nightlife montreal has to offer. Would go here again for the price and location.
