"Great location and price!"
The hotel is close to the bus station where we arrived in the City-about a 15 min walk. Check in was easy, the room was as expected. Not fancy, but clean and adequate. one of the outer windows was slightly ajar and I found that it would not close entirely-looks like it may have been damaged. But the inside windows closed and locked so not problems. […] We kept them shut at night anyway and turned on the fan (the room does have air conditioning also) as white noise. The pillows were not very firm, mostly fluff inside a case and the bed was very squeaky but really, that is the only thing I can think of that wasn't great about the place. Breakfast was delicious breads (white, whole wheat and rasisin) toasters to make toast if preferred, jelly, butter, two difference cereals with milk, croissants and pain au chocolat. There is also coffee and a juice machine. There was no tea so if you are like me, make arrangements. There is a microwave also and people were heating up their suppers and lunches also during our stay. This is a basic hotel is an excellent location for an awesome price. I will stay again! You will be given the worst possible room when you check in. Y prepaid for the room. The hotel has nothing to lose by giving you its "dog" room. That's what Hotel des Arts did. We were given a tiny room right to the elevator. The A/C unit moved the air but did not cool it. The clerk came up & agreed that the unit was broken. He offered to let us move […] immediately, or get another room the next day. It was late and it had been a long drive that day. We decided to "tough it out". What a BIG mistake, but it was our mistake, not the clerk's. The next morning, new on-duty clerk came up, inspected the unit, but said he would not move us until the maintenance guy looked at it. We came back in the mid-afternoon. The maintenance guy apparently reported that the unit was fine. It wasn't. The front desk clerk came up again & relented. The room was a furnace. We lugged our gear to a new room, which was much bigger & had an operable A/C unit. So, three strikes against Hotel des Arts - (1) the rotten first room, (2) the hassle & delay in getting a room with an operable A/C unit, and (3) no on-site parking. You have to walk to a public lot 3 blocks away, where you can only pay for one day at a time. There is no attendant. If you forget to go back to pay for another day (it's a vacation, remember), your car will be towed, as I found out, the hard way. All in all, this is a lower tier hotel, but it was clean. "Good budget friendly hotel"
I stayed 3 days and 2 nights at Hotel des Arts. The first room we were placed in the bath tub wouldn't drain however the staff was very accommodating and quickly changed our room. The room we switched to was good however there were many stains on the floor. The staff was very friendly and helpful with navigating around Montreal the breakfast in the […] morning was good as well. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Absolutely pleasant stay. Nothing fancy but clean and comfortable. Perfect to enjoy the city by. Great location!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
You get what you pay for. The hotel wasn't the nicest and up to date, but you get free wifi, a continental breakfast and the location is central and walking distance to St Laurent blvd, chinatown, le village, old montreal, st catherine's blvd!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel close to the center"
While we were staying in Montreal, the jazz festival was going on. As the hotel is located near the center, we could reach easily by walk.Genuine Expedia guest review
We came up from New York for Jazz fest. The location of the hotel was perfect; just a short walk to the festival grounds. The area doesn't seem to be the best, but it appeared to be safe, at least at festival time. Walked to the hotel at 3am and there was no problem. Plenty of restaurants in the area, and a close walk to Chinatown. Price was affordable […] so I wasn't expecting anything fancy; however, the rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, A/C worked well, as did free wi-fi. Breakfast is spartan (cereal/croissants/coffee) but adequate, and it's free (or included in the price, if you will). One reviewer mentioned an unpleasant odor in the hallway, which I have to agree with. It frankly smelled like urine, but appeared to fade after a few days; or maybe I just got used to it. Also, the switch on one of the bedside lamps was broken. We mentioned it to the front desk staff, not necessarily as a complaint but just to register it, so they wouldn't hold us responsible, and they insisted on sending maintenance to fix it. Fix it they did - by exchanging it with the lamp from the other side of the bed. No big deal in all honesty to me, but if you want up-to-date, first-rate facilities, it's probably not so great for you. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Location served our needs very well - close to Metro, Jazz Festival, Latin Quarter, Chinatown - and a manageable walk to Old Montreal. We would have appreciated in-room coffee, as well as better quality coffee at the breakfast bar and a greater food variety at the breakfast bar. We did appreciate the good-sized room, quiet accommodations, free WiFi, […] comfortable bed, and good air conditioning. We would definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Yearly trip to Montreal"
We travel to Montreal a few times a year for Formula 1 races, Cirque de Soliel premiers and for sure the Jazz Festival. We find this hotel to be in an excellent location for the Jazz Festival; two blocks from the outdoor stages. Safe for walking at night, good value for the money. This isn't a 4+ star hotel; but the cost is very reasonable for the location. […] Our plan is NOT to be in the room anyway. Bathroom is recently upgraded, so not dissapointing and the AC works well (which can be hard to find in reasonable cost hotels in Montreal). Suggest parking in the underground garage at the Library at $10 a day and secure underground, no fee for in/out - entrance on Rue Berri 50 yards from the corner of Rue Ontario (10 min walk from the hotel, but good price and safe w/24-hour attendants). "Good basic hotel"
The Hotel Des Arts is a good basic hotel. There are no frills, but the staff is gracious and the beds comfortable. It is well located in the arts district.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Small hotel, good area, bad hotel."
Hotel is in a decent spot. Went into the room, and the door handel fell off right when the door was opened. Second, the windows would not slide open. They fell out, the whole window pane fell off the track when I tried to open the window. There was no safe to put personal belongings in and no mini fridge. Beds were not super clean. Hotel phone did not […] work in the room. The room was kind of grungy but luckily the bathroom was super clean and nice. The continental breakfast had too many people in one small room. Personally would never go back. Just an overall bad experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Nice hotel for very reasonable price. Location is great, close to bus/Greyhound station and downtown. The breakfast is pretty basic. Overall good hotelGenuine Expedia guest review

"Decent hotel, but room kinda smelled like mildew"
Everything was fine other than the smell in the room. It was not a terrible smell, but it did kind of smell like mildewGenuine Expedia guest review
"Close to Old Montreal"
This hotel is old and it shows. The rooms are dingy and smell funny--they need new carpet badly. There were hardly any outlets to plug electronics (bring an extension cord!) With that said, it was still the best we could get for the money. It was walking distance or a short drive to everything we wanted to see. There is no parking for the hotel at all. […] We got by with street parking the 2 nights we were there but it is challenging and you really have to understand the parking signs which are confusing (and in French). The beds were surprisingly comfortable. The neighborhood looks old and run-down but all of Montreal is that way. We had no problems while out walking in the day and early evening. I would recommend only if you are not too picky about cleanliness and want to experience some "local" flavor (which is European youth hostel instead of the American chain hotel ambiance). "Get What You Pay For"
Stayed here with 5 other guys for a bachelor party. And for what we needed it was ok. Beds and a place to shower. The mini fridge in all rooms did not work. When I called the front desk they informed us that all mini fridge's in ALL rooms were out of service and that they would not be replacing them. That was disappointing. Rooms are exactly what you […] pay for. Old TV's, that old mildewey smell, and old-school bed sheets. For what we paid I can't complain. Plus the location was good, right off the party scene on Saint Laurent. But wouldn't recommend for a family trying to save a few bucks. Definitely will be disappointed. "good location but old hotel on sketchy street"
Hotel was in a very good location, close to subway, making the trip very convenient. Price was good for the location, breakfast was decent and hotel staff helpful. But hotel was old, and the street kind of sketchy. Drunk people screaming on the street throughout the whole night. Our room was old and smelled of cigarettes.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Price, Decent Location, Buy a New Mattress"
Very reasonable price. Ten minute walk from metro so you can get around easily. Decent breakfast. Helpful staff, but one day forgot my walk up call. Only bad thing, and not sure about this, is I hurt my back and it was sore. Was it the bed or was it hours of sitting on chairs in meetings?Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel is neither great nor horrible. It's pretty average. It is however relativity inexpensive for the location it's in. If you're planning on going out a lot and just using the hotel to sleep, this is the hotel for you. It is very close to downtown and near the metro. I was very satisfied with this hotel and would recommend it!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall, the stay was good. It's an inexpensive, centrally located hotel. The street downhill from it is a bit sketchy, but other than that, no major complaints. Although the room we had had about a 2-inch gap between the bottom of the door and floor so we could here EVERYTHING in the hallway and some nearby rooms. But we're heavy sleepers so it was […] ok. "Great value for a great location"
The staff at this hotel really made all the difference for us. Not only did they let us store our stuff in the hotel and check into our room early, they also replaced my room key when mine "disappeared" after a night out for no extra charge. The front desk staff were friendly and had great advice to give about restaurants, sites, and clubs. "They need a huge renovation"
The worst hotel that I've been in the last 10 years. Surrounding neighborhood is scaring. The sheets have holes. The hotel smells very bad. Seriously, this hotel needs a huge renovation. The only good part: people was very kind.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient location, good value"
Great location, within walking distance to many attractions in Montreal, including Ste Catherine's street with its bars and shopping, and Old Montreal. Nice staff, clean enough room. Basic breakfast, but nice enough given the price. No parking, but there are a number of above ground and underground lots nearby. Definitely would stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Like Staying in the Projects"
To list all its shortcomings would be too exhaustive so here are some of the major ones: - Foul, decaying odor in room - Room service that will ignore the "Do not disturb" sign. And I made sure the French part of the sign was facing them. - Small room and therefore furniture is all over the place so they will fit inside room - Poorly designed bathroom. […] The door will hit whoever is using the sink. - Shower tub drain does not work well. Prepare to shower with your feet soaked in dirty water. - Useless staff. I wanted to get some soap and the guy tells me he doesn't know where it is so come back in the morning. So I suppose I didn't really have to shower that night either. - There is only street parking or pay 20 dollars a day at this tiny parking lot which looks like an abandoned dump site. The guy will tell you not to leave anything inside the car. He will also call you at crazy times to shovel the snow off your car if there is a snowstorm. He calls me at 3am and 7am in the morning and then asks me why I don't answer his calls. A real charmer. - Lastly, there is a huge ant pest problem in the room. If you do decide to stay here after reading this, do not eat in your room. If you drop just one tiny crumb on the floor, an entire army of ants will be all over the room. Don't use the trash can, the ants will cover it and it will be a sight to behold. If you're "lucky" enough to stay in my room, I have killed them all with bug spray for you. "Right on the edge of funky town"
The windows in the room open - a plus. Smelled like bug spray in the room. I was with friends and their room smelled the same. At least they admit they have/had a bug problem! There is limited parking in front of the hotel, but we lucked out and had free parking just outside both nights we were there. Breakfast was free - pastries, cereal, toast, juice, […] coffee. My only complaint about the hotel is it is hard to initially find when you are completely unfamiliar with the city.
