"Central location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
The Convent Hotel is located on one of the main streets in Amsterdam and within easy walking distance to the Centraal Train station and Dam Square-so public transportation is a snap. The hotel is well kept and the staff is very friently. The one complaint about the staff is that they do not seem very knowledgeable about typical tourist activities in Amsterdam and we didn't find a concierge staff member to help with some of our questions. Our booking through hotels.com did not include the breakfast, which looked wonderful and was expensive, so we found a lovely little care within a block or two from the hotel for our breakfasts. Lots of tours seem to use the hotel, so the staff is very comfortable speaking in English with everyone. The entrance to the hotel faces the very busy street, but the rooms are all in the back of the hotel and are very quiet. We enjoyed our stay. I would suggest trying to get the breakfast included in the hotel price.

"Easy walk to must see sights"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The hotel was clean, nice, the staff friendly and helpful, especially the Concierge. The location was great, within walking distance of many restaurants, and things to see in Amsterdam.

excellent location to the airport, service was excellent. Great to have a real "walk in" shower!

The bustling heart of Amsterdam, this district attracts hordes of visitors teeming from Centraal Station to Dam Square and its beautiful Nieuwe Kerk (14th-century). The oldest part of town, Oude Zijde, is famous for its Red Light District, but the University and the docks bring a different kind of colour and buzz to the narrow streets. Don’t miss the Oude Kerk, the Amstelkring Museum or the paintings in the Amsterdams Historisch Museum.

"Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky"
Very nice and historic, wonderful location, not sure I would rate it as 5 star in terms of ammenities and I also thought it was somewhat pricey. Loved the brunch in the Winter Garden and dinner in Reflet was excellent. Good service and very good food. Palm Bar is overpriced. Wanted to use the health club but it was very small and cramped looking so […] we skipped it. Read more
Excellent food, service and location. More expensive than expected.
"Best hotel in Amsterdam?"
Location is key at Krasna. Worth everything to stay here. Not the best hotel, not charming like the canal hotels, but it's right on Dam Square, close to everything.

"Best Hotel I ever stayed in Amsterdam"
I travel to this city each year, so far this was the best hotel that I have ever stayed at.. Great service, happy people..
"No major complaints here"
Was an overnight (Saturday) trip. LARGE wedding party in the ballroom (with a very LOUD band), but (amazingly) no noise in my room (I'm not sure which section of the hotel I was in; my room was on the 2nd floor off of Elevator 5). The room was a decent size (I expected smaller) and very modern. I had previously stayed at the Swissotel (practically across […] the street), but I would stay here again. Read more
"NH Grand Krasnapolsky"
great location. was expecting room to be rather run down based on other reviews but only mirror in bathroom needed upgrading. no shower curtain just half a shower wall so water was all over the floor. staff was helpful. overall a bit pricy but worth the great location!

"NH Grand Amsterdam"
this was the WORST DUMP i have ver checked into...and promptly departed. I never even checked out as it was pre-paid...but i left the Hotel within 15 mins of checking in. The hotel is TIRED and the room was DISCUSTING! take it off your list!!
I last stayed at the Krasnapolsky some twenty years ago. It is now under new management, greatly expanded and renovated and the room I had was SIGNIFICANTLY larger than any other hotel I have stayed at in Amsterdam: highly recommended.
"Very convenient and nice staff"
I spent few days with my family during our latest vacation. They have a very professional and friendly staff. well maintened rooms. Definitively, a good value for your money.
A very nice hotel in an excellent location. However checking in and out service leaves much to be desired in this hotel. There is no system.

"NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky"
Well I wanted to find a Hotel in the center of Amsterdam and I found it. The hotel NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky was that and more! The people were very nice and wanted to help in every way. Close to the famous Red Light district I found it to be right in the middle of all that is known to be Amsterdam. It is also near some of the great museums and about […] three blocks from the Central Train Station. Read more
"Room Smelled"
This would have been an outstanding choice (GREAT location etc), BUT the room smelled like it had a huge mold/mildew problem. I wasn't there long enough to bother to do anything about it (in and out), but i feel obliged to point this out.
"Cleanliness"
The hotel appeared very nice upon first walking in, the rooms were very large and reasonably priced. The cleanliness of the room however was horrible. Even after complaining about the condition of the bathroom and obvious amounts of dirt and grime on the telephone, nothing was done to correct it.
"NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky - Dam Square"
Nice Hotel, great location, old hotel. I expected a nicer room for the price, I guess you are paying for the location. Wireless internet is not free which is very annoying, for the price you pay I would expect free internet access, at least in the lobby.
"Krasnapolsky - Grand no longer"
I had a room in the new tower - a clean room, but one you could have found in any serviced apartment building. The bed was moderately comfortable. Generic tiles in the bathroom that two different people had evidently picked out. The shower alternated between scalding hot and cold water. It was clean at least. The breakfast, at EU30, was uninteresting […] if plentiful - battery eggs fried in rings, bacon in solidified lumps, cereals and juices aplenty, slightly tired fruit. Overall, not what I expect from a Grand hotel, or a 5 star establishment. Stay somewhere else for the money. Read more
"Grand Krasnapolsky"
Great hotel and couldn't be in a finer location right on the Dam square. HAd confirmed 3 in the room but the roll away wasn't in the room. had to call for it. Towels too. Alos Delta had lost our luggage and i called down to see if the hotel might have some hair gel. They did not know what that was! FUnny. They brought up hair conditioner. Everything […] else was good. Ordered food thru room service(pizza)----not too good. Next time would just get up and go out! Read more

Best Hotel in Dam area, great price and great location = great vacations.

"Hotel Kransnoplosky, Amsterdam"
Excellent hotel in the heart of Dam Square. Good central location with lots of restaurants and bars close by. The tram takes you throughout the city and there are lots of attractions within easy walking distance. Despite the noise of the fair in Dam Square our room was very quiet. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

"Dated, old world hotel"
This is a BIG hotel set in the euro old world. The hotel is dated with lots of hallways and different wings. My bathroom was incredibly small and the room was very tight. The people were very friendly and the buffet breakfast was very good

"Hotel Krashapolsky...more grungy than grand"
Although smoking is not permitted in any hotel in the Netherlands, this expensive, supposedly 4-5 star, hotel smelled like an ashtray. Our room was a converted meeting room with a view of the back of another building. Worn carpet, stained bed linens, as bad as the room was, nothing was as awful as the staff. The fact that our arrival was marked by the […] desk clerk yelling at a dissatisfied guest should have warned us, but we checked in anyway. The elevator system is confusing and needs some kind of signage. At an information desk, I asked where the elevator to our room was; and without looking up from her magazine, the clerk growled "Next to the Winter Garden," which might have been helpful had I known where and what the Winter Garden was. Despite its central location, I do not recommend this hotel. Read more

"Nice Hotel but ...."
some let down parts means its not top of my list to stay in again. Firstly the good: Staff, room itself, location is great if you want to be part of the hustle in Amsterdam, not so if you would like some peace and quiet. The room was nice and spacious - I was in a newly re-developed section of the hotel. Now the poor: The bigest problem is not being […] able to open the windows in the room a decent amount to allow air circulation, I woke every morning all bunged up and feeling like rubbish, not a good start to a working day. That was my biggest gripe, I just felt awful for the rest of my stay (4 nights), the gym was also very small, I also hate paying for the Internet 10 euro's for 24 hours with a capped limit (500 meg) and poor speed (256 kbps) is not good in my opinion in this day and age. "Location, location, location"
The location of the hotel is great. It is very convenient to walk most places, catch a tram, or walk to the train station. Our room had a view of Dam Square, which was great. With the view, also comes noise. The breakfast is expensive, but you should definately try it since it is served in a very beautiful room. The low point was housekeeping. When […] we checked in the room was dirty and smokey. Read more
a room at the front means noise! thankfully plenty of eating places nearby to have breakfast as very exspensive in hotel.
Only flaw with this choice of hotel was the outside noise, especially if you lie to get a nights sleep! The cafe as described in website was quite exspensive.
Great location but tired looking room for the money {no bathrobe or slippers as shown on website}. At check-in asked if we wanted b'fast the next morning. We said that we'll decide in the morning. We were told that if we book it now it was 24E but would be 30E in the morning! For such a prestigious hotel this is shocking! We did not have breakfast there. […] Bejinhof dept store right near the hotel has a fab restaurant for very reasonable price. The hotel is in a great location so we would stay there again. Read more

"Nice but not a five star."
Everyone was quite professial except the concierge, The second I checked in they just looked at me and never raised a finger to help me. I thought this was a five star hotel. When It was time to leave they offered to call me a cab. I said you dont need to because they are four cabs outside. They said you dont want to use those cabs outside because they […] dont give you an honest price. I said I thought it was 45 euros to the airport, they responded that that is standard but the cabs outside will charge you more. So I said fine call me a cab but we are in a hurry, they said they will be there in 5 minutes. I waited outside for 10 minutes and finally talked to one of the cabs waiting and asked how much to the airport? He responded 45 euros and that was standard. I said why are the concergie inside saying you will charge more? He stated that it was because they refuse to give them 10 euros. So unprofessial and I will no longer stay at this hotel. 5 star hotels are suppose to be for the customers not for the staff to try to stuff there pockets that is why we pay extra for it. I could have missed my plane all because they wanted to make an extra 10 euros. Read more
