I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the University Hospital but was pleasantly suprised with the excellent service and very friendly staff. I would certainly go there again and recommend this hotel to anyone going to Beirut.

The front staff were helpful, friendly and very efficient. The room I was given was of an acceptable size for two and had a nice view of the sea and mountains. The food offerings for breakfast were varied and of good quality but did not really merit the exorbitant cost, even by Beirut standards. The location of the hotel is quite good, within easy walking distance of Hamra Street (two minutes) and Zaitunay Bay (fifteen minutes). There are a variety of choices for evening entertainment nearby, with the winebar Cle literally around the corner and others not much further away. For further objectives, taxis are constantly available out front. The cleaning staff are friendly, extremely helpful and go out of their way to ensure that every aspect of the room is acceptable. First, Beirut is completely safe for American tourists! And if you do travel to this magnificent city, please stay at the Gefinor Rotana. Its location is ideal--close to the Corniche, to Hamra Street, and many fun little shops and restaurants. Hotel was great value for money. Good location, excellent hospitality! Hotel facilities were great. Shame we didn't use the pool as the view was awesome (weather was not so good though). This hotel offers good value and attentive service. Our room was spotlessly clean and housekeeping checked at least twice dail y to see if we needed anything. The roof-top infinity pool with an outlook over the sea is a perfect spot to sit at the end of a day's sightseeing.

Everything worked well and it was very cheap in comparison to the new five star hotels nearer St George's Bay. Breakfast was included at the weekend and it was excellent. Has a pool with sea view and a gym. Service was good and friendly. All in all very good value, but not quite a 5 star hotel given its age.

Checked in Ok and early which was a welcome bonus. Quite limited F&B outlets on site and all located in lobby (except for roof bar by v small pool). Signs in lifts suggest there is a Trader Vic's there but on enquiring was told it closed 5 years ago... But plenty of restaurants and bars in nearby Hamra area. We walked everywhere (for many miles) so […] can't comment on taxis but quite clear that Beirut has major traffic issues. The hotel recommended tour company was excellent. I would highly recommend trips to Jeita, Byblos and Baalbeck. Full day excursions include excellent Lebanese lunch. Plenty of night life near hotel but also around Solidere which is a redeveloped area full of up markets shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants. Final words on hotel: waited 25 minutes for iron and board (phoning twice to remind); surly'ish cleaners; and Ok if not overly attentive front desk staff. The Hamra neighbourhood, where the Gefinor Rotana is situated, is located close to the sea shore, beach clubs and beaches of Beirut. It is also a nice walk or a short taxi ride from the city centre. Me and a friend had each booked a room for the day of arrival, but as we arrived in the middle of the night, we were offered a two bedroom and two bathroom […] suite for the first night at a very good price. On the next morning, we were offered to stay on in the suite rather than move to the separate rooms we had originally booked. An upgrade you cannot refuse! The service was great all round, and as everywhere we went in Beirut, the people at the Gefinor Rotana were friendly and made sure that our stay was as pleasant as possible. We mainly ate outside of the hotel, but had some small dishes and sweets. Definitely recommend that you try out the hotel's chocolate selection. Also there were good wines, but stick to the reds - or the occassional rose - as Lebanon's whites tend to be rather on the plummy sweet side. As for the surrounding area, there are a number of great cafes and restaurant. Just round the corner of the hotel, at small family restaurant For All, is a good place for a cut-price breakfast. Less than five minutes away is the bustling Hamra Street, with a bunch of great restaurants. Our favourite was Laziz, which serves traditional Lebanese food. There is some nightlife in the Hamra area, but you need to go to the city centre of Beirut fot the real action. But this is much closer to the beaches and the beautiful Pidgeon Rocks. Read more

Going to Lebanon as tourists we were apprehensive at first as to whether or not the hotel would be any good. However, from the start to the end we were greatly impressed. We were greeted at arrivals with a screen displaying our names and escorted to a waiting minivan to take us to the hotel - this was extra but as we had 4 people we thought best to […] book a minivan for the luggage. The hotel itself was extremely clean and looked very nice. Given this was my first experience of a 5 star hotel so I have nothing to compare it to, I must say this hotel excelled in nearly all categories. The location was excellent - always a taxi outside and every taxi driver knew where this was. A short walk from the main strip or a 5 min taxi ride from the main night strip, we found location extremely good. Pool was rather small but intimate. However, given the central location it was a bonus it had a pool. The amenities at the hotel were very good. A gym, concierge, l'occitane toiletries, 24 hour reception, excellent maid service are just a few of the things to mention. We booked two of the cheapest rooms - they felt 5 star! The hotel was extremely responsive to our requests. One evening we called them at 7pm to come and clean the room and they happily obliged. The minibar is well stocked and there are several (premium) snacks in your room (at an extra cost). I stayed at the Gefinor for 3 days and would not stay there again. At best the hotel is 4* and not 5*.The primary reason for this is the service at the hotel, mainly the front desk staff. I dealt with 3 frontdesk staff during my stay and found them to be off-hand, disinterested and unfriendly. I have stayed in many 5* hotels andhave never had reason […] to complain. At Gefinor I found the front desk staff were arrogant, superior in attitude, unfriendly and unhelpful. Upon booking I had requested a room with a balcony and had paid for a club room. The balcony to my room was a tiny semicircle where you could barely move. I requested another room with a proper balcony and offered to pay extra but was downgraded to a non-club room with a balcony overlooking an office block with workers in there just a few metres away. The bell boy then advised me that the front desk assistant had told him that he was to ensure I did not change my mind. During my stay I had lost my purse one evening containing all of my US dollars/Lebanese money but had £100 in the hotel safe. The following morning I went to the front desk to change the money from sterling to US dollars. The lady at the front desk could not understand what I was asking, in itself that was not a problem as I am the tourist in their country, but I found it pretty amazing that an International hotel did not have front desk personnel, who understood english which is an international language. The following day I asked her colleague the same question and the male who I spoke to said I could change the currency. I explained that the lady the day before had said I could not and he became argumentative and extremely defensive. He explained that he was present (which he was) and that she had not understood what sterling meant. It seems pretty amazing that as he was present and had understood himself that he had not intervened to assist both his colleague and a guest. I'd have to say that this is great hotel. Rooms were ok but lobby and reception are absolutely great. Our room was big and had a separate kitchen which we didn't need. Room was clean and nice but there isn't anything special. Location of the hotel is good if you are into Hamra. We like traveling after good food and we didn't find that many restaurants […] that we like close to this hotel. Also if you are into shopping they is some stores in Hamra but you can find better shopping elsewhere.
