The halls and elevator areas always had paper and refuse about. It would be nice if the hotel featured a fitness center which couldn't be that big a deal. Guests would really enjoy this.

This is one of the poorest experiences I have had, especially relative to the high price they charged on a Friday night. The person greeting me was barely civil and offered nothing but a local magazine when I asked about nearby restaurants. The hotel is older and shows it. It has a bizarre TV system that gives you one set of channels by scanning through […] using the remote control channel lever and another if you actually enter the numbers of the channels. But nowhere is that explained or is there any guide to the channels available. I asked the staff twice for help with the TV and received none. I arrived about 8 pm and went out to get something to eat. When I returned around 10 I discovered the bathroom light was burned out. They had no one available who could replace the light, so I had to move to a different room, which was not the same as I had reserved. At least someone did show up to help move my luggage. But one would think you would notice the bathroom light doesn't work when you're preparing the room for the next guest. I won't be staying here again. Read more

There's not much of a lobby, which makes it seem more like a crummy hotel or hostel when you first enter. The staff was nice, if slow. The 2 narrow elevators were slow and for a while one of them was broken. The door to the room was stuck- you had to force it open each time. The free wifi kept resetting and requiring me to log in constantly. Eventually […] I gave up and went back to 3G on my phone. Not enough electrical outlets in room. The bed was very good! Soap was good. TV had no on-screen guide. I called the front desk and they sent up a xeroxed page which was a partially correct channel listing. Great location. Front desk was nice but housekeeping was not good. Cleaned room but day over day did not supply us with basic amenities like TP refill or new soap bars, etc.

Very close to the Magnificent Mile and much more affordable than other nearby hotels. Of course there are compromises on room size, maintenance, amenities and decor due to lower prices. The staff was friendly and helpful. The free WiFi was a nice surprise. My biggest complaint would be the lack of soundproofing in the door.

We checked into our room and went out immediately, not returning until 9pm that evening. Upon returning, I found that our toilet wouldn't flush, we had no wastebasket in the room or in the bathroom, and there was a TV but no remote. Because I generally only stay overnight the RRI is a good bargain, especially when compared to costs of other hotels nearby. There always seems to be a little something wrong. I was in the bathroom chaining and someone knocked, not giving me time to answer, the opened the door, when they found resistance from the chain they tried a couple of times until they broke it off. When I screamed, they said: "sorry, wrong room". When I went to the desk they told me that there was maintenance work being done on my floor and that they […] must had thought nobody was in there. That explanation was unacceptable given the fact that the chain can only be engaged for the inside of the room. As soon as they felt the chain, they should have closed the door and left if that were the case. If they have someone booked in the room and have our cell phone number, why not call and let me know maintenance work is being done. Better yet, why not call the room prior. I was told that it was my fault for not bolting the door. I have a picture of the chain being ripped out of the wall. I was alone in Chicago and in the middle on changing clothes. I travel often and this has been by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Read more

Parking fees are high in Chicago, but the Red Roof did not charge for in and out, but rather for the whole day... That is HUGE and good. Our only complaint was that our room was a little small but other than that we had a great room with a view, and we were only a block away from all the action. The hotel did not offer a breakfast but for the price […] we were able to find enough resturants in the area to eat at. the Grand Lux Cafe Best ever... and Chipotle Mexican Grill was just down the street also very good on a short budget... Rooms were small but great location!! Elevators were tiny as well. Bathroom toilet kept running 80% of the time and semi leaked but other than that the hotel was fine for sleeping, we weren't in the room much because there is so much to see downtown.

Hotel was a great price for the downtown location. Overall room was clean and nice but the poor service of the WiFi and extreme lack of water pressure in the shower was very disappointing and made the stay frustrating. The rooms were way to small , the heat in the room did not work when they fixed the heater the heater made so much noise you couldn't talk to each other the mattress was too small my head was at the headboard and my feet hung off the bed and I'm only 5 ft 10 in Very disappointed. The room was better than the one I had previously. When I exited the elevator the cleaning or laundry cart unattended was the first thing I encountered. Seems like this place is short-staffed as there was a nice little back-up at the front desk. The staff was very NICE though. The space is SMALL but it does the job.

GREAT location, could easily walk to Art Institute, Cloud Gate, Chicago River, and Magnificent Mile. Rooms were okay, nice view of downtown. Bathroom was tiny with only one small mirror in entire room - tough for more than one girl. Overall good for the price and location.

The front desk personnel were great! Brenda gave us excellent service and was so incredibly kind. She upgraded us to a King suite just because we were nice to her!
