"Comfy bed, free shuttle & wifi..."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
I liked my overnight here. It's quirky but not charmless. Called for a complimentary pickup from the roadway just outside MAD Term 2 using my mobile (Americans: make sure your phone is enabled for intl calling BEFORE you depart the U.S.). There's signage with a few dozen hotel numbers including Best Western Hotel Villa De Barajas. Remember you'll need to dial the country code "+34" in front of the rest of the number. A van was dispatched and arrived quickly. The check-in counter inside the tiny reception area feels rather like a car rental kiosk. Check-in was quick and my questions were answered efficiently. I found the room to be smallish but very clean and the bed firm, as I desire. The bathroom, also small, was nevertheless a standout: spotlessly clean, modern and with good shower water pressure. There were a few English-speaking tv channels, as I recall, but when I landed on CNBC Intl (financial news) my wish had come true. I had takeout from the Chinese restaurant across the road, pretty good. Overhead halogen lights above the bed in Rm 204 could possibly sear your retinas. I didn't have breakfast in the room adjacent to the lobby but complimentary freshly brewed coffee dispensed from the machine in the bar was excellent. I'd stay again.

"Perfect Location, fantastic accommodations"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The location, cost and accommodations were great. A few steps away from a major square, metro and tons of restaurants. We could not have asked for anything better. In addition, their was WiFi access in the room.
"conveniently located"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
this is a small boutique hotel within walking distance to the royal palace, several restaurants, bus station, across the street from the metro and near to a small market. the internet was free in the room, (first place on our trip, others were free in the lobby). the restaurant in the hotel appeared to be very expensive so thank goodness for the other close by restaurants. there was a bit of broken glass on the floor when we arrived and a hair in the bathroom, but otherwise the room was clean and fairly comfortable. all in all it was a fine place to stay.

Musicals, hotels, shops and restaurants make the Gran Via a rich vein of entertainment, finishing in the east with the black dome of the Metropolis building. The heart of Madrid, the Puerta del Sol contains the statue of the symbolic bear of Madrid and Tio Pepe sherry sign. Westwards, the grand Plaza Mayor was once the site of inquisitions and executions, but is now mostly visited for its terrace cafes.
see all hotels in Madrid"Perfect location"
Great location in heart of Madrid to see everything you came to see. Shower did go from hot to cold, but otherwise great hotel, nice room, spacious for a big European city. Overall impressed.
"Located in the heart of Madrid"
Clean and well maintained hotel in a five star location. The price was right when booking through Hotels.com.

Hotel was OK. It looked better on line than in person. Everyone was very nice but the place really needs a makeover. Close to Gran Via.
"Hotel Liabeny - Great concierge"
Very kind and patient concierge and front desk. Very helpful with making reservations for restaurants and assistance with map guides. Persistent hotel cleaning service, but would rather want cleanliness over lack of attention to rooms.
"Hotel Liabeny, Madrid, Spain"
This a large elegant older hotel in good location. The room was comfortable and the hotel staff was professional and helpful. The bathroom is outdated but functioned well.
"Liabeny close to Plaza del Sol and shopping area"
However, I don't get the 4-star rating. Common areas are fine and the rooms are clean. Condition of room carpeting and furnishings leaves a lot to be desired. I would not stay here again despite the attractive price.
"Pleasant experience"
Good location, well maintained with good service. Centrally located( between Grand Via and Sol Metro stations) but still quiet. Pleasant place all around.
"Hotel Liabeny in Madrid, Italy"
Good location. Front desk staff was very rude. Room was very musty and old. Will not stay again.
"Location convenient but noisy"
The location cannot be beat and the staff was excellent. Only problem was that the room was very warm even with the heat turned to off. (We stayed in late February 2012.) Therefore, I had to keep the window open and the street noise was very loud, particularly between 11pm - 2am and 6 am - 7 am. When the window was closed it greatly reduced but did […] not eliminate all noise. I don't think there is much that the hotel could do. It is simply the price one pays for such a convenient location in a city that enjoys very late nights. Read more
Excellent hotel, friendly staff and everything you need is just around the corner, the cafeteria has really good food, and the rooms are big and clean, next time I'm in Madrid I'll stay there for sure!
The hotel is so centrally located that it is possible to walk to most of the sights in Madrid and since it is on a side street, it is very quiet. The room was immaculate and the concierge incredibly helpful! I plan to stay there again on my next visit.

"Good value for the price"
It's a centrally located hotel - minutes from the metro - clean, professional and quiet. Definitely worth the price and the front desk staff was very professional.
"Excellent Hotel"
It was a pleasure to stay at this hotel. It was convenient to everything that I wanted to do while in Madrid, and to the airport as well. I will return on all future trips to Madrid. The only negative that needs to be noted is that the cost of breakfast at the hotel was 15 euros, rather high. It is by no means a deal breaker, however, since there are […] several nearby breakfast possibilities at reasonable cost. Read more
"Perfect Location"
Just two short blocks to the Puerta del Sol and the heart of Madrid, this is a perfectly situated hotel for Madrid. You can walk everywhere or take the nearby metro. The staff was very accomodating and helpful. The room was comfortable and well furnished even though it was on the small side. I think this is an ideal hotel for Madrid and I would definitely […] stay again. Read more
"Great location in central Madrid; nice hotel."
Five minute walk from Gran Via metro stop. Five minute walk from hotel to numerous sights, restaurants, etc. I'd stay here again.
"EXCELLENT LOCATION"
VERY NICE HOTEL. STAFF WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND HELPFUL. IT IS LOCATED IN A PERFECT SPOT. CLOSE TO EVERYTHING.
"Very good location"
Hotel Liabeny has a very good location,as it is very near to many must see attraction in Madrid. Also, the train stations are very near which facilitates your getting to other nearby attactions. The overall hotel infrastructure was acceptable, and the rooms were a bit small but comfortable. This however should not be a problem since you are usually out of […] the room for a great part of the day .The only drawbacks I have is that the beds are quite hard and the pillows very soft. Also since it is near some popular plazas, late at night it is sometimes a challenge to go to sleep because people stay up partying and make a lot of noise. "Close to amazing sights in Madrid"
Hotel Liabeny was chosen for its location to the amazing sights in Madrid. Everything is convenient and well kept. Our room was right above the front entrance and could hear the sliding door all night. Ask for a room higher up or away from Room 121. Nice breakfast.
"Loud and hot"
This hotel turned off the air conditioning when it was still too hot outside. Opening the window was not a good option because the neighborhood was very loud at night.
"Hotel Liabeny"
Located near the Grand Via and about 200 yards from the Puerta del Sol, the Hotel Liabeny was a good choice as a place for me to stay for a week. However don't use the glasses in the room to drink from because the maid service cleans them with some type of chemical.
"Hotel Liabeny, Madrid, Spain"
Well maintained, nice sized room, well located to all central city activities. Concierge helpful and front desk efficient. We would highly recommend this lovely hotel. 15 minute walk to the Prado, city park, et al. Even closer to the Gran Via, retaurants, etc.
"Hotel Liabeny"
Great location. Comfortable.
"great location in Madrid"
The hotel is within 2 easy walking blocks of Puerta del Sol and safe location. Many restaurant options and close to the Metro and Hop on/Hop off bus. Arrived early and were given early checkin. Concierege was very helpful.
"A great location"
Very helpful staff. great recomendations on restaurants and activities. Located in the heart of where the leisure tourist would likde to be. Good value on top of good service.
"Location great."
This is the perfect location if you want to walk all around the heart of old Madrid. The buffet breakfast was the best, with a wide variety of traditional and European offerings. A main Metro stop, Sol, is close by as well as the stop Gran Via. The only drawnback is the neighborhood to the left, when stepping out the hotel. In the evening I would avoid […] that area, if walking alone. The whole area is closed off for shopping. Read more
"Hotel Liabeny-Madrid, great loacation plus more"
Walkable to Plaza Mayor, Palace Real, Crystal Palace as well as Mureo Prado. Clean and friendly staff and a great breakfast buffet and a reasonable price. Would highly recommend for a couple of day stay in Madrid.
"Perfect Location"
The hotel was close to various important plazas. It was conveniently located to the metro stations and walking distance to Puerta Del Sol Plaza. It is beautifully maintained and the people are very helpful and friendly.
"Hotel Liabeny"
Excellent Hotel with great customer service, location and very clean. Highly recommend this hotel!
"Liabeny-Madrid"
Hotel staff very good and pleasant..location is excellent and we have been in Madrid before several times so can compare. Would recommend without reservations.
"Great hotel in excellent location!"
This is just a hop skip and a jump from plaza sol. We were traveling with a 1 year old and they brought us a crib right away. It wasn't far to walk to all the major sites and the Madrid Metro was super easy for us to navigate from the airport. It was well worth not spending 30 Euro on a taxi and not having a car seat. The staff was excellent and most […] spoke English. Bathroom was really clean a d the room was spacious by European standards. I will stay here again if visiting Madrid. Read more
"Nice hotel and great location"
The hotel was a lot nicer than I thought it would be. The room was clean and the service was excellent. The hotel is in a very centrally located area, walking distance to many sites. There is also a metro station nearby. The hotel is very quiet even though there is a main, very busy street nearby. I highly recommend it.
"If you want to be close to the Gran Via"
Excellent location in the middle of the Gran Via. I would have given 5's across the board, but the carpet was a little worn in the bedroom and hallways so I marked it down but all in all, it was a great stay!
"Everything was pretty great except the front desk"
Everything was satisfactory except one front desk attendant. I don't know if she was just having a really bad week or what, but she was extremely rude each time I talked to her and made me feel incredibly small and dumb. One other small complaint is that the showers (or at least, the one my room- a single) were rather narrow and it was a bit difficult […] to be able to stretch out it in and scrub myself down. "Hotel Liabeny in Madrid - recommend!"
Hotel was clean and in a great location. It was close to lots of shopping, restaurants, etc and easy access to public transportation. We were in a first floor room and were a little concerned about noise. We were there during the work week and had no problems with noise...but it may be different on a weekend. Check-in staff did not offer too much […] information but when asked specific questions, they were able to help. Unfortunately I don't speak Spanish but staff were able to speak English rather well. Air conditioning worked well in our room. Loved the shower with great water pressure and big shower head. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others! Read more
"Excellent location!"
Hotel Liabeny is close to everything in the center of Madrid. The best part is that it is quiet but just one block from the nightlife, shopping and fabulous restaurants.Staff was helpful and professional.Even my spanish family was impressed! I will stay there next time
"Great"
We enjoyed our stay at Liabeny. The room was cleaned twice daily, and the staff was on top of all issues. The location is great and the room was well appointed. The bed was not as soft as i like but that is a personal thing. We stayed durring our honeymoon and the staff showed interest in making sure we had the right room, not on the street so it wouldn't […] be too loud. Thanks. Read more
"Hotel Liabeny is a must if staying in Madrid"
Loved everything about the hotel with one exception, in the morning you could hear people moving and making noise in the hallway. This was not enough of a deterrent to rate this hotel less than a 5. The location was the best, staff helpful, room clean and up to date. Choose this hotel if you can
Be vigilant! Do not follow the instructions on the "how to access the internet" card in your room if your reservation includes free wireless, because they will charge you for following their instructions. Overall, a clean, safe, comfortable hotel.
