Location was great. This is a complete room with small kitchen (stove, oven, micro, ref, dishwasher) great for extended stay with a grocery store near by. Lovely balcony and quiet.
"Excellent all around"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
A fine hotel deserving of its 4+ star-rating. Good service, very comfortable, clean, well-appointed and large rooms. Right near Queen Street and just a 10min. walk to the water. Near good restaurants, theatres, shopping. We were very satisfied and I can recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good place to stay in Auckland.
"Blown away!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 30, 2012
For the price I would have expected to find 1/10th the quality. Location perfect for strolling Auckland's CBD. Well done, thank you!

"Big and Beautiful Hotel"Reviewed by Julie A of "NJ" on Apr 17, 2012
Loved the hotel and all it had to offer. My only complaint was about the 1/2 hour it took for the staff to bring our bags to the room...should have just taken them up ourselves. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

The North Shore is situated 4 km across the Harbour Bridge from the city centre, and is densely populated and mostly residential in character. Popular pockets include harbourside Takapuna with a well-established café and beach culture, and the quaint upmarket seaside village of Devonport which offers a selection of restaurants, gift and antique shops, and a ferry service to the CBD.

Terrible customer service! In the one week, we had broken A/C and a horrible banging sound in our pipes that kept us up one night. In return, at 9pm on the last night, we got a free dinner coupon and a few drink coupons- AFTER we had eaten dinner. The staff was polite enough, but seemed to make up answers and was very slow to follow up on requests […] . Read more
"Great room for the money"
The hotel staff was very helpful and the people in the area surrounding the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. We were in Auckland during the bus strike. The Ritches were running and we happened upon an outstanding bus driver John, who personally helped us get to the central bus area. We can't say enough nice things about the people of Auck […] land. "Great views and comfort"
We stayed for one night. The room was very large and spacious (more like an apartment). It was great to be able to do our laundry in the room for free. We also used the pools which also have great views of the city skyline. One of the best hotels we stayed at on our trip.
The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff pleasant and helpful during my stay.
"Spencer on Byron Takapuna"
We had the best time over Easter, the service was awesome, the rooms were awesome, the views were spectacular, all and all I woud reccommend the Spencer on Byron as the No 1 place to stay on the Shore.

"Spencer on byron takapuna,Auckland"
Only stayed 1 night but its on my list for next time without a doubt.Spencer suite was very nice, views were amazing, swimming and spa pool was very good,if i had one complaint it was that in the changing rooms for the pool it was sign posted towels but couldn't find any anywhere, and the gym was a mess, they had cabinets and draws open everywhere with […] all sorts of junk hanging out of them, broken gym equipment, wires plugs etc,it just seemed very messy. However that wouldn't stop me staying here again i loved it. Read more
"Hotel Spencer on Byron, Takapuna, Auckland"
Stayed here for five nights in April and thought it great value for money. Hard to fault. Our suite was just as described - spacious with views, extremely comfortable beds and serviced efficiently daily. The location is also very convenient - just around the corner from a major village shopping centre (full of a myriad of coffee shops and restaurants) […] yet away from the traffic. The beach is less than a five minute walk from the hotel and a great place to walk or swim. We didn't have a car during our stay although noticed free car parking was available to guests. The buffet breakfast was very good although freshly brewed coffee wasn't automatically served with it. We had to request this and this is my only complaint. We loved our stay and hope to stay again when visiting relatives living in the area. The tennis courts and heated pool are another feature of this well run hotel. Read more
room needs a second chair breakfast not included in room rate and very overpriced
"Castle Spencer on Byron Takapuna Auckland"
My wife and I went there for a relaxing overnight stay and were appalled to be woken up at 9.15am the following morning by someone trying to get into the room and again at 9.30am where we were advised it was hotel staff wanting to check the room. When we complained at the reception at checkout we were berated by the receptionist saying it was our fault […] as we should have had the Do No Disturb sign out. At no stage were we advised that this was necessary. The systems and staff attitude need changing. Read more

My wife and I really enjoyed staying at the Spencer! The rooms were modern, well layed out and comfortable. The service polite and professional and the view of the harbour was simply spectacular! My wife and I just needed some time out from a very busy life style and the Spencer was perfect for this.
"The Spencer On Byron, Takapuna, Auckland, NZ"
A very good location for motorists who are travelling north and wish to avoid downtown Auckland. The Spencer has all the facilities you may need.

"Very Nice Hotel Highly Recommended"
Nice hotel in a great location with friendly staff. I will book it again and rank it 10/10. Close to lots of bars and a short walk to a great beach.
"Nicht CBD Auckland"
Wenn man Alternativen zum City Center Auckland sucht, ist das Spencer on Byron eine gute Wahl. Takapuna ist ein guter Ort in North Shore, der schon ein gewisses Holiday-Feeling ermöglicht. Mit einem schönen Strand. Gut für ein paar Tage. Mit Blick auf die Skyline von CBD Auckland.
