I stay in this hotel once a year when I come there to train. My only real complaint is you offer no bottled water for the rooms. At $2.00 a bottle in the vending machines is pricey to say the least. I travel all across the world, most if not all hotels I stay at offer free bottled water in the rooms. "Easy place to stay when flying in/out of Edmonton"
I've stayed here a number of times when flying in/out of the Edmonton International Airport. Its only a five minute drive to the airport and their shuttle service runs every 20 minutes. The free wifi in the hotel doesn't always work and there is usually a train that goes by twice a night that can be loud-- bring earplugs. I stayed 2 nights for business in Edmonton. It was my first Canadian stay in a hotel. The staff was fine and the facility is comparable to Marriott Courtyard. Nice and close to the airport so we could catch our early morning flight. Had the fitness room all to ourselves! Stayed for two nights April 26, 27. We had a comfortable stay, breakfast not included but available . Simple menu available 24 hours in room. I booked this last minute at 20 cheaper than any other decent hotel in the area including the Exec Express sister hotel. The buffet was 14 dollars and wasn't bad other than the bacon was so salty you could hardly eat it. Otherwise it was great. They put me up in the new tower which went in about 2008. I liked the actual light switches in the wall, so I didn't have to chase all around the room turning on lamps. Plenty of lights, located properly including one directly above the head of the bed with a switch on the wall beside the bed. Internet was fast, desk chair comfortable. Very close to the ariport. The nearby (300m away) train was noisy, but only rolled by once in then late evening so not too bad. Shuttle bus runs to the airport every 20 minutes, not on demand. "Probably the best Edmonton airport hotel"
I've stayed at Executive Royal Inn several times in the last year, always in the "new" wing, so I cannot attest to rooms in the original hotel areas. Rooms are very well appointed with flat panel displays, nice washrooms, comfortable beds, plenty of electrical outlets to plug into. As hotels go, this is definitely in my top 10% of pleasant experiences, […] and I travel almost constantly. The staff is courteous, the airport shuttle runs every 20 minutes around the clock, which is really nice for those of us who arrive late and leave very early. The business center has a working computer and printer, which is a rarer commodity than one would expect in this technology age. Dining - the main restaurant serves adequate fare, I would rate it 2-1/2 star fare charged at 4 star rates, but it's nice that they have a decent restaurant on-site. There is also a well appointed lounge with comfy chairs and a fireplace, quite nice. For those craving a noisier environment, there is a sports bar as well. Compared to the other hotels directly nearby, this one has dropped all the items that make it traveller friendly, in an effort to be more "executive". Expect bare bones here. As well we will get rid of the printed materials that are in the rooms and replace it with a more up to date version. He is a little concerned as we just purchased brand new hot water tanks this year and this makes us believe that one of them may have a flaw. Main entrance was NOT inviting, rugs in bad condition; hall carpet NOT vacuumed, nor the elevator carpet - too dirty. Not impressed with the flooring. The door keys did not work even after three trips down to the desk to request that security open the door to our room. "Make sure you take the right shuttle bus!!"
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights over the weekend. The hotel is generally good for the price. HOWEVER, we encountered a few issues. When we landed we didn't see the executive inn's shuttle bus. Another driver told us we just missed it and he would take us for a $100, ok I'm sure that was a joke but we rejected him nicely as his white van doesn't […] say anything about executive inn. He kept coming back to convince us to get into his van and after a few minutes he started giving us really bad attitude and ended up swearing at us because we rather wait for the proper shuttle bus. Like really? I think it is fair to not trust you and not get into your van when you don't work for the hotel we are staying at. We called the front desk and they told us it should be a black van, though they "sometime" do have white vans. Well 5 minuts later, another white van came and asked if we are going to executive inn, we popped in and went. But the next morning, the front desk told us it should ALWAYS be black van?! Then what was last night all about?? Do other hotel shuttle take customers to other hotels just to make tips?... worst experience ever!! When we told the front desk what happened, they said they would passed it onto the manager, but we didn't hear anything back the whole stay... Lesson? I do apologize for the confusion in regards to the shuttle; I have confirmed with our shuttle company that they do indeed have both white and black vans. And have been insured me that any van used for our property will have our logo and/or name in some shape or form on the van, and also that none of his staff are to ask for money joking or not.
