"Central location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
The Convent Hotel is located on one of the main streets in Amsterdam and within easy walking distance to the Centraal Train station and Dam Square-so public transportation is a snap. The hotel is well kept and the staff is very friently. The one complaint about the staff is that they do not seem very knowledgeable about typical tourist activities in Amsterdam and we didn't find a concierge staff member to help with some of our questions. Our booking through hotels.com did not include the breakfast, which looked wonderful and was expensive, so we found a lovely little care within a block or two from the hotel for our breakfasts. Lots of tours seem to use the hotel, so the staff is very comfortable speaking in English with everyone. The entrance to the hotel faces the very busy street, but the rooms are all in the back of the hotel and are very quiet. We enjoyed our stay. I would suggest trying to get the breakfast included in the hotel price.

"Easy walk to must see sights"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The hotel was clean, nice, the staff friendly and helpful, especially the Concierge. The location was great, within walking distance of many restaurants, and things to see in Amsterdam.

excellent location to the airport, service was excellent. Great to have a real "walk in" shower!

The bustling heart of Amsterdam, this district attracts hordes of visitors teeming from Centraal Station to Dam Square and its beautiful Nieuwe Kerk (14th-century). The oldest part of town, Oude Zijde, is famous for its Red Light District, but the University and the docks bring a different kind of colour and buzz to the narrow streets. Don’t miss the Oude Kerk, the Amstelkring Museum or the paintings in the Amsterdams Historisch Museum.

location is really key! between dam square and central station. we got a room with some street noise but it was not so bad
"Close to City Center"
Great hotel close to city center and easy walking distance to all the sights! Very eclectic design, with nice lobby. Rooms were quite outdated, but were very clean and quiet. Desk service was exceptional - many thanks to them for their help during our stay!
"NOT WELL MAINTAINED--but close to Central Station"
This hotel looks like it hasn't been updated in years. The carpets were stained and dirty. The light fixture in our room was missing, and just bare bulbs were exposed. Our room looked out over a filthy alley way. The only nice things to say about this hotel was that the bathroom was clean and that it was within walking distance of Central Station.

"nice hotel"
a short distance from the central rail station, on the edge of busy neighborhood, some rooms not very well sound proofed. clean bathroom attached to the room. good facilities and great staff, particularly front desk person named patrick, who gave me a good and spacious room.

"Tulip Inn Amsterdam"
First room they gave me had been a closet. Filthy, tiny, and terrible odor. Second room was in the basement. Also unacceptable. I agreed to pay more money for a better room, and clerk said he would give me a better room for 10 euro. Charged me 20 euro instead. Gave me credit (I hope) after I complained. Third room was fine, but overall experience pretty […] miserable. Read more
"The Tulip Inn - Amsterdam Centre"
The hotel was clean and the staff very polite and accommodating. Request a higher floor as the neighborhood was very noisy and they seemed to stay out all night.
Overall, a good deal. We did have a lot of luggage and no matter where your room is located there are some stairs that you'll need to climb. We had 2 rooms and both had to go up 1 or more sets of stairs to get to the room. Location was very convenient though as we came into the Central Train Station and were able to walk over to the hotel. This hotel […] won't "wow" you, but its a good value for the location. Read more
"Tulip Inn is BAD."
This was the worst place I have ever stayed. The room was small and not the cleanest I have been in. They have a very low hourly rate for those who don't plane to sleep. The bars on the street (RED LIGHT)are open all night and the chance to get rest will start around 6AM. Anything earlier is very very noisy. I would not recommend this hotel to enyo […] ne. Read more
Location was wonderful, the hotel was very noisy, our room was on the lower level right on the street. Amsterdam goes all night long!
We tollerated our stay at the Tulip Hotel in Amsterdam. The room was very small and the window could not be open at night for the noise from the street below. However, the convenient location was more important to us than the size of room. This is not a place for the handiapped or someone with lifting restrictions.. There were stairs to manuver everywhere […] and with no porters for luggage, it was a challenge getting our luggage to our room. Read more
"Great location"
Physical appearance could use clean up and depending on room one gets ear plugs would be handy. Personnel helpful and short walk to central station and many local attractions.
"Tulip Inn Amsterdam, Netherlands"
Location is the best, the room looked like a college dorm room, window facing brick wall. The room was clean and safe, police 4 doors down. We would book again into this hotel because of location.
"Tulip Inn"
Great location near Central Station. The room was small, but very clean. Bed was satisfactory. TV was a little out of adjustment. All in all I would stay there again and it is a great value for the money.
"Appearances can be deceiving."
I was pleasantly surprized by the Tulip Inn. The exterior and the location on the edge of the Red Light Distritct gave me pause as we walked in, but to my surprize the Tulip was completely remodelled, very comfortable and well staffed. We had chosen the Tulip becasue of the proximity to the central train station, and despite the seedy exterior and the […] seedier neighborhood were rewarded by a very good hotel. Read more
"Clean, friendly and convenient!"
The Tulip Inn is very convenient - about a 5 minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station. It is right on the edge of the Red Light District, so you do have to be careful at night even though there is a police station a little further down the street. The staff are incredibly friendly and are conversant in several languages. The rooms are clean and tidy. […] Great value for money! Read more
"No frills hotel...but location is worth it"
This is a very below average hotel in terms of service and cleanliness. I compare this to a Motel 6. However, the location is a mere 2 minute walk from the train station (3.70 Euro one way from Schipol Airport) and is well worth it based on that alone. It is in the heart of Central Dam Square and you are next door to some good restaurants, shops and […] bars (as well as other Red Light activities!!). The good price of the rooms is also something to consider. Just don't expect much. The carpeting is pretty bad and the elevators (lifts) are slow. If you take the stairs they are tight, narrow and confined. They do have highspeed internet in the rooms for @11 euro for 24 hours. Flat screen TV's as well with a decent selection of international cable shows in english (CNN, NATGEO, Discovery, etc...). Bathrooms were functional and the hot water worked fine. Like most Europeon rooms, they are small. But the heat worked fine and the beds were OK. If I had a family I would probably stay somewhere else. But if you are travelling single or with a companion and don't mind trading comfort and luxuries for savings and location then I would consider staying here. Also, there is a police station a few doors down from the hotel and the rooms have safes to secure your valuables. I experienced no problems during this stay. Read more
"Tulip Hotel im Amsterdam - good but shady"
The hotel and entry hotel staff were nice and well kept. Hotel was a short walk to most things. Unfortunately, the room safe was broken and the hotel could not (or would not) fix it or give us a comparable room and some of our valuables were subsequently stolen by the the cleaning staff. The manager refused to even see us and basically told us tough […] luck via the entry staff. Read more

"We loved it!"
For the price you pay, Hotel Terminus is fab!!It's in a really central location, the beds are comfy and the rooms are clean. Much better than any other Amsterdam accomodation I've stayed in (Heart of Amsterdam...)
"Excessive noise - 2 horrible, sleepless nights"
If this is a 4 star hotel, then I would hate to see the 1 star! I was throughly disappointed with this hotel, despite a string of good stays at other properties in Europe listed on hotels. com. We found getting a decent nights sleep was impossible with all noise. My husband and I were awakened about every 20 minutes all night long and my husband generally […] can fall asleep anywhere. We were assigned a basement room that opened onto a small court yard, which I relunctantly accepted as I was told it was the only double bed option available. We soon realized that the main hallway to the hotel elevator was right above the bed and the thin floors creaked all night long as people got in or out of the lift puncatated with muffled conversations and laughter of other guests waiting for the lift. We noticed ear plugs in the closet when we checked out so I am sure we were not the first guests to complain of the excessive noise in this room. To make matters worse, on the first night, another guest in a higher room in the same court yard decided to carry on a Long, loud boisterous conversation with their windows open at 3:30 am. The front desk attendent refused to the phone so I had to get out of bed and dress to complain. The offending guests were eventually quieted down by the hotel reception attendent, but it was just another distraction that make getting a few hours of decent rest impossible. The pictures of the hotel lobby and rooms were obviously dated- while an acceptable level of cleanliness, the rooms were much more worn out and tired than the pictures, in my opinion. The bright side of this stay was the room had a very fancy high end, large flat panel tv and its convenient location within the city. I would not recommend staying in this hotel, especially a basement room if you actually want to get a bit of decent sleep. This hotel overpromised and did not deliver. WIth its high star rating, I was anticipating a bit fresher rooms and a half way decent nights sleep. Read more

"fortunately free earplugs provided"
This place is fine if you are just partying in the red light district. the location is very central. However it sits RIGHT next to a church that rings its bells A LOT starting at 8am. Room and halls were a little dirty and run down. I was not impressed.
"In two minds!"
I read reviews on here before I went and decided to go even though some reviews we're bad...you can't always go on reviews and most seemed ok. First ff the hotel is right on the door of the red light district, you just have to walk a matter of meters from the hotel....not saying it's a problem but could be for some. Next is the look of the hotel, nice […] from the outside but room was quite messy and had been smoked in even though it was a non-smoking room. Light switches hanging off, tv didn't work but bed was clean as was bathroom.. The church bells mentioned in other reviews weren't heard at all so my guess is it's down to the room your given as to wether you hear it or not, but there is ear plugs supplied. The hotel is very close to the train station and main high street, staff we're polite enough. I'd say based on a three star hotel, i'd give it 3 stars. It's ok as long as you know the above problems then it should be a pleasent stay Read more

"Miserabel, worst ever seen!"
Zero points! The worst hotel in Amsterdam for a fortune! Never ever again! Very stinky, old, small, uncomft., Loud etc I've never seen worse than this all over Europe and North Africa!!

"Very clean, central and lovely staff!!!"
I would stay there again. Nicest hotel I have stayed in by far in Amsterdam. Staff are lovely and hotel is clean and location is great.
"Excellent location - low price"
I stayed at the hotel as a business traveller, but it is better suited for the leisure market. Especially travellers on a budget. The hotel is good value for money, but expect really small rooms, old furniture and mediocre service. The location is excellent, though.

"Tulip In central"
Good location, friendly service, clean room, comfortable bed however very dated with rough paintwork.
"Great reasonably priced hotel"
We stayed at the Tulip mainly because it was reasonably priced and had a good location both of which proved to be spot on. The price was spot on for the comfort of the room and the hotel facilities. It was very easy to find upon arriving by train from the airport. Loads of bars and restaurants nearby and plenty of tram stops and metro should you want […] to go anywhere further afield. My room was quite narrow and the two single beds were places end to end but this was not a problem. The room was very comfortable and clean. Had a TV, wardrobe and very nice bathroom. Some might say the bathroom would be small but it was clean, the shower was excellent and had all you needed in there. I did notice our room overlooked an Irish bar which i thought might cause some noise late at night but proved not to be the case. If you are on a budget and not planning and want to be close to the action then this is ideal. Read more
"Fantastic location and value for money!"
To be honest, my main concern when booking this hotel was to be close to the center. However, not being interested in the "dark" side of Amsterdam, I was a bit weary of the possible noise/area. And looking at some of the reviews, it seemed like the hotel could do with a little refurbishing... nothing further from the truth: the hotel staff was very […] pleasant and professional from arrival to departure. The room (210) was spacious, clean and quiet, with all the basic needs covered (tea making facility, shower gel & shampoo in bathroom, minifridge, etc..). About 2 blocks away from the train station, with plenty of places to visit and to eat out. (highlyrecommend Wok to Walk, 1 block away: excellent food and prices). I'll certainly be going back to this hotel on my next trips to Amsterdam. Read more
"Yupik inn in Amsterdam"
The location is undoubtedly the best. We went there for the weekend. We took the superior room which is quite a decent size. But the bed was not very comfy. It felt like we were sleeping on a sponge. Although we didn't really feel like much because we were too tired from walking and visiting coffee shops :) We also requested an early check in but when […] we went there, they said there is nothing on the notes and won't do anything about it. The staff were not very friendly!! Read more

Hotel is fine very close to central station, dam square,redlights.. Good location friendly staff, only negative thing is i booked for double bed but i get 3single instead
"Tired hotel"
Hotel is in a central location. Reception is fine, room are very basic to say the least. Overall it is a very tired hotel.
"Bordering the worst I've ever been in."
Upon arrival at around 11.30am I was given the keycard to my room. Went to the room tired from having had a 3.30am start to my day. Unpacked my case, then went to go to the bathroom to take a shower. The towels were all on the floor wet and the toilet was disgusting. Then started to pay more attention to the rest of the room, to find the bed had actually […] not been made, there were still coffee cups around the room. Clearly the room had not been prepared, so a mistake by reception MAYBE, but day 2 they tried to come in at 8.30 am and clean, when we had only been in the room for 20 minutes from a night a club, We were naked on the bed and the cleaner just walked in seemingly oblivious to the fact there were very active and naked people in the room. Ridiculous organisational skills in this hotel, 8.30am trying to clean the room after the previous day not having been cleaned even at 3pm. Won't recommend and won't stay again. Read more
"The Tulip Inn Amsterdam"
The hotel was clean, rooms small but comfortable bed and very good shower / towels You are right on the edge of the red light district but the noise isn't too bad The general hotel condition is dated but acceptable
"leisure yes, work no"
Only gets this ratint because of the low price and kettle being present. Due to my room being at the backside of the hotel, it was only quiet outside between 0200 and 0700. If you have to work that's not optimal. Front desk did not ask me, just gave me a room. Hard foam matress, airco not working, had to open window for fresh air, even though outside […] temp. was below 10 degrees. ground floor hallway carpet almost covered with chewing gum. bathtub was placed wrong way around in combination with showerhead. had to stand on inclined backrest. crumbled and broken tiles and plaster. tv worked well, although signal-strength was so-so. "Tulip Inn Central Amsterdam - shabby and overprice"
Upon arrival, I found other people in the room - was assigned a new one, but really... Thick fog of pot in the 'non-smoking hotel', noisy, cramped rooms, many things in disrepair. Paid four star price for this. Guess it was extra expensive because of New Year's, but would not even consider paying half of this amount for what I got.
"great value for money"
I did not have any unpleasant surprises. The room was clean the location is great and the price is very comptitive.
"Great place for revellers"
If you're going to Amsterdam to Party, this is a great location in the middle of the Niuewe Zidjs (new side) of the old Centrum, walking distance from a bunch of attractions as well as the Centraal railway station. Parts of the hotel are in old beje's (traditional 16th century Amsterdam houses) with a warren of random stairways and this adds to its […] charm. Staff are super friendly and helpful. A+++ Read more
"In the middle of Amsterdam!"
I was there 4 Days ago, I really have to say it`s a good Hotel. Okay it has a little smell at the frontdesk, but that`s not heavy! The Rooms where very clean and there nothing stinks, the flat TV is also good. It`s a little bit a hotel for younger people, because it`s really in the Center of the Red Light District. Coffe-Shops are also everywhere […] around the Hotel, if somebody is searching for this, then you will have a reeeealy good stay ;) For me it was a good hotel for this Price! 2 Minutes walking to the shopping streets and 30 Seconds to the Red Light District. Something about the Parking Place, the Hotel also have a Parking Service. It costs 30 Euro for a Day. This was not the Problem, BUT they drive my Car! So for everybody like me, that will not give his Baby in other Hands use the Park and Ride at the Olympic Stadium. Every navigation System will find this. It`s about 10-15 Minutes from the Hotel. It`s also cheaper, it costs just 8 Euro a Day and you receive from 1-5 tickets for the Tram/Train to go back to your Hotel and also to come back from the Hotel to your Car. Have Fun! Best Regards! "Tulip Inn Amsterdam Central"
Great location if you want to be in the central area. Room was small, clean but very noisy as it was facing the party street.
