The Westin St. John Resort and Villas - St. John

The hotel and staff were very nice. However, from my perspective it was like a nice luxury hotel instead of an island resort. I guess it just depends on what you are looking for, but next time I'll look for a place that has more of an island 'feel'.

The hotel is breathtaking. When you arrive they are waiting for you with a drink and eagerly waiting to get you settled into your room. Everyone is very nice and helpful while you are there. The room was very clean and well kept. When we were checking out at the dock, left a bad impression of the hotel to my group. The two men at the dock (one being […] with security) were very RUDE and unhelpful. My group left there with a BAD attitude because of the way we were treated as we were leaving. Up until that point, I can't say enough good things about the hotel and the staff. The two gentlemen that were at the dock checking people out obviously didn't like their job or were having a very bad day. If that had not happened, I could rate our stay at an excellent. The island of St. John is amazing beautiful and a great place to visit. The Westin St. John is, in my opinion, the best place to stay on the island given the options. We brought our two young children and they had a wonderful time. Plenty of activities and amenities. This is our second stay at the hotel. We will stay again.

We enjoyed our stay at the resort, this was are second stay at the Westin. The first stay was during hurricane Hector, needless to said, we enjoyed the sunny clear skies tremendously, during this stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Westin. The staff was friendly and very helpful and everyone made us feel very welcome. The pool and beach were very nice and we also took advantage of the watersports right at the beach. The only downside was that was had to use taxis everytime we went into town, but we also saved money by not renting a car. We were […] able to visit other beaches as well without a car, however, a car would have been fun for one day to explore a bit more. We did find food (like breakfast) to be rather expensive at the Westin, but we expected that. We had a small fridge, so we went to the grocery store across from the hote to get food for breakfast and some lunches. The transportation from the airport was very convenient, although a bit pricey. Avoid St. Thomas on cruise ship days - we were told Weds are typically bad. Read more

The advertisement for Westin clearly stated the recent renovations. Our room had leaks all over the ceiling, patched and dirty! Considering there are very few hotel options in st. john, this is a very good option for the price. We booked on Expedia which was cheaper than the spg website for the same room. It looks like they have done some renovations, but they missed a few things (like old chair and mirror in bathroom). Those things did not hinder our enjoyment in any way, so […] I can easily get passed because they did upgrade to the heavenly shower and bed, as well as large flat screen tv. The only major issue we had was the placement of the air cond vent, blowing directly toward the pillow and therefore our head at night. We came up with a work around solution with tape and paper to direct the air flow down. Not pretty, but it did the trick. The starbucks coffee, tea, coffee maker and mini fridge were very helpful in the room. It was just my husband and I this trip which was fine for the hotel room. When we return with our kids, we will definitely stay in one of the villas so we can have a full kitchen and save some money on meals. The resort as a whole is beautiful and the taxi was convenient enough so we only rented a jeep 1 day to do our own exploration of the island. Read more

The only restaurant at the Westin is Outrageously expensive. You can take a cab ride into town, which costs 5.00, but the restaurants there are still a bit pricey. Another minus was the amount of sand flea bites all of our party were afflicted with. And they lasted for weeks after we got home.

The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The resort grounds were beautiful, food was good and the views were outstanding. One request was not completed, we submitted a maintenance request on our first night, because the shower had very little water pressure and there was no hot water. The first day was disappointing due to a ceiling leak in the bedroom. Also interrupted at midnight in the bedroom by maintenance person to repair leak. Next day i asked for an upgrade and received a substantial upgrade to a villa. The food was very expensive as well as the roundtrip using the Hotel's Ferry which needs a little upkeep and paint job. […] No night time activities/shows. Very lovely upkept and scenic hotel. I Would recommend the two hour guide of the island. The gym was full of great equipment and complimentary but the kids club was very expensive and not worth it. Short and sweet... an absolutely wonderful experience. Second trip after our honeymoon trip 19 years ago... Not many changes in the resort. Great service, very friendly staff, and respectful people/staff. This is exactly what I expect when I visit a caribbean island. The only drawbacks were no espresso available. The coffee machine was broken all week […] long. However, I took the drawback as a break from coffee. And of course, food is very expensive and not much variety. However, the food is "very tasty" in all outlets. My suggestions are to rent a car and explore the island. Trust me, driving on the left side of the road is not that bad. Many places to explore and fall in love with. For dinner, venture out into town. There are many great choices for dinner, and are not as expensive as the resort. And lastly, if you plan to celebrate something special or just want to experience something new or exciting, e-mail the resort... they will respond quickly and will ensure you are taken care of.... We spent 5 nights at the Westin with our 15 year old son and 11 year old daughter. We ended up loving it despite a rocky start. Most of the rooms have patios or terraces but a few have no outdoor space, and we got one of those when we first checked in. After a fair bit of complaining, we were moved the second day to a first floor garden-view room with […] a patio. We found that delightful even without a view, because the patio was spacious and offered direct access to the hotel grounds and easy walk to the beach and pool. The hotel grounds are beautiful. The staff were courteous and helpful. We rented a jeep from the rental agency on the grounds and had a good experience with them too. Prices were comparable to outside businesses. We toured the island by day and returned to the hotel in the afternoon, then drove to town for dinner at local restaurants. Taxi charges are per person and quickly add up, so if you're with a large group car rental is a good idea. We would recommend the Westin to anyone and plan to go back. Read more

We love Westin, so much that we always stay in a Westin hotel whenever possible and so much that we chose to stay at St. Johns because there was no Westin at St. Thomas. We arrived at the The Westin St. John Resort and Villas expecting the usual (high) standard and service we have come to love about Westin (especially the Westing Resort and Spa at Kanapali […] in Maui Hawaii) Unfortunately it did not quite live up to that standard. The resort seems a little worn down and the amenities (especially the pool and the quality of the restaurant food) was just below what we have come to see as typical for Westin. The service was ok, but only just that. Not exceptional and amazing like we are used to at Westin. The place was a pleasant surprise, as sometimes what you see on the internet is not always what you get. Some of the areas of the resort are in desperate need of restoration / renovation. If the food was any good, you would never have to leave the resort! Though things are extremely overpriced, all in all we had a wonderful time and met some wonderful […] people. There are always a few "key" employees that stand out and kudos to you! Then there are others who ignore you and would rather stand around talking to each other than to take care of the customers. Thank you Fitzroy for all you did for us! Problems with trying to order room service - no one ever answered the phones, not even at the front desk. It just happened to be Carnival when we were there and the taxi service to and from the Westin were very prompt and courteous which allowed us to experience Carnival in true fashion. Cruz Bay Excursions were absolutely amazing and worth every penny! Thanks to all the crew on both trips we took, JP, Dave, Callie, Frank, etc.! And thank you Karen at the Conceirge for all your input and suggestions! We ended our trip with a couples massage in a poolside cabana - EARLY prior to all the noise of the kids at the pool. I believe Franique is the guest service who checked me out, and during the entire check out procedure she did not even bother smiling or greeting the guest. Whih I believe in hospitailty its very important. Any way bathrooms needs major renovatio and carpet needs to be changed. Does not look like a Westin to me i believe it can pass for 4 season hotel. […] Thats about it.
