Our First night at the Mount Royal we had a room overlooking Banff Avenue, the main street of Banff. We were kept up all night, well into the early morning, by party goers out in the street and it was Tuesday! Our second night we asked for a room on the back side of the hotel and not only did we get a better night sleep but the veiw of the mountains was prettier.

Great location. You are in the heart of Banff. Walking distance to resturants, shops and river. They upgrated our room when we checked in which was very nice. We had a king and they upgraded us to 2 queen beds. Beds were very comfortable. The Canadians are so friendly. We had one question for the front desk and she was able to direct us to the specific place we asked about. I can't think of anything negative. Our experience was very positive.

I chose this hotel because of it's low price and location. I was pleased by the in-hotel dining options and the nice room layout. I had problems with the wireless internet (not free), but the desk gave me an ethernet cable to fix the problem (it did). Admittedly not a problem for most guests there, but I was on business. Cleaning staff quite thorough. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay at the Mount Royal Hotel. It's smack in the center of downtown Banff, so close to all the restaurants and bars. Though we didn't like our first room (it was in the old section of the hotel, with one very small window that overlooked a gravel roof). The staff switched us to another room with a better view, and then we never went to the front desk for anything the rest of the 6 days we were there. The room was nice, maid service was great, the bar in the lobby was nice, and we loved it. We'd definitely stay there again!

Definitely not a 3-star hotel. Very shabby. I am sure it was clean, but it felt dirty due to leaky faucets, stained carpets, etc. We expected more. However, it is true that the location is great if you plan to spend time in the town of Banff, but for the mountains, all the other hotels were also conveniently located.

Not only would I rate this hotel below average, but we also had a very unpleasant stay the one night we stayed here. The room right next to us had 6 or 7 very drunk young men staying in it who were very loud and very disrupted to the whole floor of the hotel. We called the front desk twice and both times got little to no help with the matter. We got no sleep the entire night due to the noise next door. We were very disappointed in the lack of service with the hotel staff.

If you are visiting in August, I would recommend that you request a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor. There is no airconditioning on the 1st floor of the hotel. These rooms are designed to stay warm and are not designed to cool off quickly. Most of the time, our room was 80 degrees or warmer. We called and complained on our 3rd night and they brought us a fan. We were so miserable on the 3rd night, that we demanded to be moved to another room (with airconditioning). At that point, the hotel folks brought us a portable airconditioner. This was such a relief as we were finally able to sleep at night. My wife and I live in Texas and are used to the heat, but I suggest making sure you are on the 2nd or 3rd floor before making a reservation in August.

Hotel is right in the center of Banff among restaurants and shops. It is old but well maintained. Breakfast (not included) is served in the Tony Roma's in the hotel, but all they serve is a buffet so we went several blocks to find a place open before 8am. Our one bed queen room was in a part of the hotel that had once been the Cascade Hotel and was added to Mount Royal at some point. The 2 are not on the same level so after a long hall, we had to drag bags down 1/2 flight of stairs. The room and bath were small, but nicely appointed. There was a window but of the type that did not open. Overall a very good value in the heart of Banff.

You can not beat the location for enjoying the town of Banff and it has plenty of parking. It is a hotel that "processes" a large number of people on tours but it does it very well...if you avoid tour breakfast time. Rooms are better than many similar hotels and the staff are generally polite and cheerful. My second time here. The last was in the ski season when the location was even more convenient. The ski buses stop right behind the hotel ski room.

This is a hotel located right in downtown Banff, which is absolutely great, since all the dining and shopping is only a very short walk away. The service was great, e.g. our room key card stopped working one day and one of the employees happened to walk by and readily let us in our room, immediately offered to replace the card and actually brought it to our room a couple minutes later. The Jacuzzi appears to be well maintained and I was using it daily. However, the hotel is about 100 years old, and therefore some things might be more old fashioned than in newer hotels. For example, the walls are relatively thin so you can hear the neighbors flushing the toilet. Also, you can hear when people are walking outside the room in the hall way or one floor up. Having said that, I still think that this hotel offers a great value, considering its great location, great service, and relatively low price.

They offered to move us to another room for the night just to sleep. I feel they should of offered a cash adjustment to the bill. We also had the maid walk in at 8 a.m. one morning, without knocking or anything. Then there was the ice machine right beside our room that was very loud. Location was fantastic though and the staff was pleasant.
