Response by The Embassy Row Hotel Dear Lucille, I appreciate you reviewing the hotel. The $15 million renovation on the hotel begins in November. The NEW Embassy Row Hotel in March 2015 will have transformed guest rooms, corridors, lobby, a restaurant/bar, fitness center, meeting space and more. I would like to invite you to come back and stay with us again. Sincerely, Shawn Jervis General Manager
"Close to all I needed"
I saw rooms online that looked nothing like the one I was given when I arrived. Even with the upgrade to a room similar to the one I saw online it wasn't good enough for the star rating it received. The staff however; was very cordial, inviting, and accommodating. That's all fine but I check into a hotel for comfort when I need to rest not when I need […] to be social. The star rating was completely overstated and I would give them 2 stars...and that's only because of the staff. To be fair, they stated they were under renovation which should have been stated on their website and I wouldn't have been caught by surprise upon arrival. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Embassy Row Hotel Hi David, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I look forward to sharing the feedback about our team. We strive to provide the highest level of hospitality to each guest. I regret to hear that you didn't think the photos were a true representation of the rooms. We are not currently under renovations. We begin in November and conclude in March; this information is located on our website. The $15 million investment includes new rooms, addition of a restaurant, new fitness center, relocation of the lobby, and much more. I would like to invite you back to experience the new hotel - whether for business or for pleasure. Thank you again for writing a review. Best regards, Shawn Jervis General Manager
"Poor Hotel in DC Embassy Row District"
I visited this hotel only for one night. We checked in at almost 4pm and our room wasn't ready (check in is at 3pm). So we walked around Dupont Circle for about 30 min and came back and the room still wasn't ready. Then the clerk kept going back and forth from the back office to the front desk leaving us waiting. Finally 10 min later we get the keys. […] He didn't give me a receipt after I paid. Then I go upstairs to the room which was very tiny. Literally you walk in and your on the bed. I think they give their bad rooms to people who book through discount websites like hotels.com. The floors in the bathroom were not clean and the room needed some work. I noticed the wood off the bathroom door was all peeled off and I found a small brownish-reddish stain on the bed comforter the day I left. At checkin I was told I would be charged $50 incidental fee per night. I checked my bank account balance righy before checkout and they charged my card way over that amount. The guy at the front desk apologized and said it was a mistake and that he refunded it and I should see it back in my account in 2-3days.The only reason I give this hotel one star is because the rooftop pool is nice. The hotel isn't very stroller or wheelchair friendly. They do have a ramp but you have to go through the parking garage on the side of the hotel to access it. I would not recommend this hotel. Response by The Embassy Row Hotel Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the rooftop pool. I regret to hear the room was not ready when you checked in. Unfortunately, it's a result of a sold out night, guests who depart late, and then accommodating guests who arrive early. In regards to accessing the hotel from the side door, this is being addressed in our hotel renovations. An ADA lift will take these guests up to the first level, where the lobby is being relocated. The hotel is undergoing a $15 million renovation, beginning in November and concluding in March. I hope you'll accept our apology. I would like to invite you to stay with us in the future. Thank you again for sharing your experience. Sincerely, Shawn Jervis General Manager
"Awesome Roof Top Lounge Room left mu to be Desired"
I was here on business and in the spirit of saving my small company $ I booked the cheapest room. Not a good move. It was inexpensive for the night so I guess you get what you pay for. No fridge, no clock, no room service, one night table. There is an amazing roof top pool and lounge with a grill that more than made up for the bootleg room. I am sure […] the other rooms in the hotel are nicer. My advice is book a nicer room and then enjoy the pool all day. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Embassy Row Hotel Dear Alex, I appreciate you taking the time to review the hotel. It brings me great joy to hear you enjoyed your experience on the new rooftop pool and lounge. In regards to your stay, each room should have a clock so I will look into this. We will be undergoing a $15 million renovation in November and concluding in March. We would love to have you back to experience the newest lifestyle hotel in Washington, D.C. It will include all guest rooms, addition of a restaurant, bar, new fitness center and more. "Added costs not on website"
Valet parking was required even though a public parking lot was across the street. The desk manager smirked when asked about options, but was not forthcoming with information. The room was clean, but outside noises all the time. Very disappointed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Rooms are definitely below standard."
Staff was pleasant but rooms left a lot to be desired. Bathroom shower sprayed all over ceiling and walls. Walls were badly nicked as well as wood frame around door. Room sounded as though the laundry room was next door.Genuine Expedia guest review
"They'll charge you ten extra dollars, just cuz!"
i was irritated that after paying for the trip on Expedia they somehow unilaterally charge you ten dollars just for, well, nothing. It's bizarre. Also, my room key did not work multiple times, they eventually sent someone to fix the lock, which made me late for my dinner reservation (I then had to get dressed and ready to go with some guy in the room […] fixing the lock). I also saw someone else having the same problem down the hall so it seems like more than a fluke event. And after all that I was still unable to get back in after being out for the evening and again had to wait while they sent someone up. They were quite unapologetic about the inconvenience. The room itself was actually nice, clean and really pretty decent. Common areas are somewhat shabby and run down looking, heavily stained hallway carpet, slow elevators, etc. Location however is excellent, right off of Dupont circle which is a great area. So it's a mixed bag. If the price is right you'll get a good hotel room in a great area. But be mindful of these downsides, including the ten dollar charge (and parking is $45 a night). Response by The Embassy Row Hotel Dear Paul, Thank you for writing a review. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed our prime location in Dupont Circle. The hotel service fee is $9.95/day (as mentioned on Expedia); this includes unlimited local and long distance domestic phone calls, Wi-Fi, and access to the fitness center. I regret to hear about the inconvenience with the room key. In regards to the common area, all of this will be touched during our $15 million renovation. The NEW Embassy Row Hotel in March 2015 will have transformed guest rooms, corridors, lobby, a restaurant/bar, fitness center, meeting space and more. I would like to invite you to come back and stay with us again. Sincerely, Shawn Jervis General Manager
"Great location, checkin, front desk service"
The reception staff poorly handled checking in when I arrived, there where more than five people in line and on,y two reception staff. Taking about 15 mins to check people in...so it ended up being a long wait. Later in the week my key got deactivated nc I had to go wait I the. Checking in line for twenty mins because of a similar scenario...only some […] people were just cutting in and reception staff allowed for it, stating they couldn't keep track who was in line. Breakfast was the same exact hot plate. mono every single day, though they could make an effort to vary it up... Instead got scrambled eggs, same home fires and sausage for five days I a row. But the location of this hotel will keep me coming back....just wish just for the principal of the hospitality that guests deserve and he fact that is no cheap, they would take the time to improve check in and breakfast. "In the center of things"
Great location. Close to subway. Friendly/helpful staff. Nice roof deck with really nice city view. Poorly designed room: Had to move back and forth to dress -- no counter space in bathroom. "Awful place to stay"
Hotel staff are incompetent and they tried to upcharge me on arrival after Hotels.com staff claimed my original hotel was full and they needed to re-locate me two days before travel. Nothing makes a traveler more angry than having your room keys not work, then getting them replaced and discovering someone else's clothes in your room. Glad I got home […] early, it would have been a disaster if the women who they also booked into my room had been there when I got back! Never stay there again. Close to Dupont Circle, easy to reach by red line. Friendly staff, rooms are nicely remodeled, lobby and especially the elevators need to be upgraded. "Nice hotel in a great location"
I was very pleased with my stay, and the location couldn't be better. Hotel staff was very friendly and nice, the room was clean and adequately outfitted, and it was the right blend of upscale and casual for me. I could see that the hotel is working on improving its facilities and services, and I'll look forward to staying here again. I think the complimentary […] breakfast is the main area that could be improved - it was standard American (bacon, eggs, cereal, etc.), which could be healthier, and perhaps more suited to a international clientele. But there's lots of other very good food options in the area, so it's not a major point. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Need to Enforce No Smoking!"
I have stayed st this hotel a total of three times, with my past stay counting as the third stay. The hotel has a no smoking policy but a guest managed to smoke in the stairwell, causing my room and clothes to reek like an ashtray. When I called the front desk to complain they checked immediately, caught the offender, and sent someone promptly to de-odorize […] the hallway and room. (A plus in favor of the front desk and maintenance staff.) The rooms are great - very clean, stocked with towels and toiletries to last for more than one use only. Sadly, no fridge but I did not ask or check on this. The only other minus? Be prepared for thin walls/doors and thus being awakened by the sounds of people having too much evening fun of the baby-making variety. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Although the hotel initially seemed comfortable, every time you turned around they were cutting corners. I had no facial soap only very drying oatmeal bath soap in my room, although the desk told me I should have been provided both. No real glasses, only paper cups, which leaked within a short time. Much was made of the roof top pool, but it closed […] early without notice and for one afternoon with a note on the lobby counter. We were staying for one night. We needed to arrive late, 10-11pm. I called ahead of time. It didn't seem to matter. I ordered a roll away bed with the online reservation. But when I called it almost sounded like they couldn't guarantee it. I called a second time because another person decided to come so we had to have 2 beds. They were wishy-washy about […] whether they had a room with 2 beds available or not. When we arrived they said they have a room with 2 beds, and that if the other people showed up it would be the next staff person's problem to deal with. That didn't affect me, however, it did concern me. They were very kind. They stored our luggage in the hotel and our car in their lot during the day while we were sight-seeing. There were additional charges for parking, the additional bed, steep taxes etc. So even after the reserved payment of $125, I had an additional$100 to pay when I got there. Room and hotel very clean. Pleasant staff. Small room, but we were only there for overnight to sleep one night. Free hot breakfast was very good. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Comfortable with great location"
The hotel room and services offered were great. The bellman and luggage service was generous and offered great advise. But the front desk was always short staffed with a long wait and the consierge desk was never staffed. The hotel was in a great location and perfect for touring the city.Genuine Expedia guest review
To be renovated sometime in future, so it appears they are doing nothing to make it nice until then. "A good effort for an older hotel in crowded city"
Very polite and helpful staff were appreciated. Mandatory valet parking at 49$ a night was a bit of a annoyance. The rooftop pool is more of an outdoor lounge with a water feature. "ok hotel in great location"
This hotel needs renovation (already planned for 2015) but the rooms have a good size. The room service could be better though (one set of toiletries for 4 people for 4 nights!!!! Come on!!!). The roof top is nice but the pool is really tiny and the opening hours are not too good for summer. They close way too early on Sunday when people really want […] to relax and it's close on two week days. Overall, it was ok but could be much better. The location of the hotel is the best as it is close to many restaurants in a nice and convenient area. Not so good for families because they don't allow children at the pool after 5 pm. The grill bar can improve a lot. It is nice, though, that breakfast is included. Parking is expensive so better without a car. "Customer service needs some work"
The hotel itself was great - close to everything; beautiful building; loved the pool; the valet's were quick. The customer service was not good. We had booked online and requested a king bed. Once we showed up to our room it was a queen bed. We returned to the lobby and explained the mix up - they said there were no kings available and we had been "upgraded" […] to a deluxe queen. A king to a queen is not an upgrade. I am a resonable person and understand sometimes these things happen however this should have been explained to us when we originally checked in. We were knowingly placed into a queen room and charged a king price without being informed at the time of check in - not good form. Having to walk down to the lobby and wait in that slow line again was a pain. After much discussion they found an available king. I overheard other customers having issues as well. One customer came down complaining that when she checked into her room there were already guests in the room; Another woman complained because a pool staffmember said her kids were not allowed to use the pool after 5pm because this was not advertized anywhere on the site at her time of booking, nor was their signage at the pool. Management eventually let her kids use the pool for this reason. The wait time to check in was also about 25 minutes - would have been nice of them to have another staff member assist.
