Schönes Castel an hübscher Lage. Waren beim Buchen der Meinung, dass wir ein Zimmer im Castel gebucht hatten und freuten uns auf dieses, statt dessen wurde uns ein Bungalo im Golfressort zugewiesen. Schade!

"Beautiful, picture perfect spot!"
09/01/15 nickee167 Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
We had a lovely one night stay at Waterford... Such a pretty spot on Ireland. Gorgeous bath in the room, perfect for a relaxing bubble bath after a big day of exploring! Rooms were cute. Would stay here again, probably the youngest guests by a bit but that doesn't bother us! Nice breakfast too.

"An amazing place to stay"

We wanted to stay in a castle in Ireland and failed to book ahead. So at the last minute we booked a room at Waterford Castle. We were disappointed when the room was not in the castle itself until we saw our room! We stayed in some buildings just outside the castle and ended up with a 3 bedroom 3 and a half bath condo style room with A/C, fireplace, full sized kitchen (a rarity in UK), a bbq, with nice linens and super clean. The staff at the castle were wonderful! Couldn't have been more thrilled with a nice place to stay

Stayed in a 3 bedroom lodge on the grounds of waterford castle. They were absolutely fabulous. House was clean and modern. Everything supplied. Only down side was no WiFi in lodge no 2. Ferry across was very regular and never had to wait too long.food was fab and priced reasonably.

"Excellent Place for a Relaxing Family Break"

We recently booked one of the 3 bedroomed lodges set on the grounds of Waterford Castle Hotel. The lodge was spotless, the bedrooms all were ensuite, the kitchen/ sittingroom was spacious and comfortable. I would happily recommend the lodge as a place to stay if you want somewhere close to the city but yet secluded and very quiet, set on beautiful grounds. We availed of Afternoon Tea at the Castle and it was really lovely. I am looking forward to returning to Waterford Castle Lodges in the not too distant future..

"Highlight of our trip"
08/25/15 Geoff R Melbourne, Australia
Our one night stay at Waterford Castle was the highlight of our recent road trip to Southern Ireland. Played tennis, had a round of golf, and a wonderful dinner in the hotel restaurant. I am on a strict gluten free diet and this was no problem - breakfast and dinner a treat. It is a little pricey compared to other places you could stay but well worth it, the golf was a bargain compared to what you pay in other countries. Highly recommended.

"Afternoon tea"

So this is the 4th time I've been here for afternoon tea, and I have to say it was the best yet. They increased the sandwich sizes which is good and the pastries were the best yet. Can't recommend it highly enough, I'm looking forward to going again.

"The scones were great - that was about it"
08/24/15 AineWicklow Wicklow
Party of 10 visited mid August. Elderly folks stayed in the Castle and the remainder in the lodges. Pros - The ferry is pretty cool, exacting the whole enchanted castle thing - The castle is beautiful, exactly what you'd imagine an Irish castle should look like - The scones in the bar were delicious, and the girl who served us lovely and friendly - My parents bedroom was very nice, I think it was called the Browne Suite. They said the breakfasts were delicious and the staff helpful and friendly - The kids club was great. The staff were brilliant with the kids and very welcome on a rainy day Cons - The lodges which we stayed in are about a 5 minute walk from the castle. Lodges is quite a grand name, as the reality is more like a ghost housing estate with a kids playground tagged on the edge. The lodge itself was shabby, in dire need of a paintjob, some new bulbs, extra bedding, anything to make it a bit more family friendly. Teenage daughter was staying in the pull out bed in the living area, and we had to request bedding for her, even though you'd have assumed it would be there already, given that the booking was for X amount of people. It was all hard edges, white walls, daft light fittings - like Ikea on helium. It was functional to the point of being totally characterless. No radio, no clock, no rugs, no candles ... nothing. There was also a rogue pair of socks left from a previous guest . - On the 2nd day of our stay we all woke up to a terrible smell. It seemed to be coming from the boiler closet. It smelt fairly toxic and none of us felt safe staying in the house. We visited reception and were told that "yes that's being dealt with, we've sent someone". I replied that the is the first time we've reported it, so how could you have sent someone, to which the girl replied "oh yea sorry, it must be a different lodge" One of the maintenance staff then visited the lodge and informed us that yes there was a smell/leak and that we should leave the lodge immediately, which we did. We packed up quickly, left the bags in the hall to be transported and got out. The receptionist said that we were welcome in the castle, and as it was pouring with rain the whole day, so we gladly availed of this. When we arrived in the castle, two adults and two children at this stage I asked could we have some tea and scones as we'd had to get out so quickly that there was no time for brekkie. I assumed they would be complimentary given the obvious inconvenience, but the receptionist informed me "I'll have to check with my manager". At no stage did this manager come to apologise for the hassle or even to check that we were okay. The upshot was that we were given a different lodge - and reception would inform us when it was ready. We decided to go for a drive and await the call. Hours passed and no phonecall. Finally at around 5.30, we rang them to be told it was ready. Basically a whole day with no lodge - waste of a day. We were also charged for this day, even though we got no use out of the lodge at all. - We visited the golf clubhouse for dinner on the first night. 7 adults and 4 children. The manager was brusque to the point of being unfriendly. No chat at all, and when the kids ran outside to play on the two rocking horse thingys, she followed them out and watched to see if they were running about. I am not one to let my children run amok anywhere, so I was keeping a watchful eye on them anyway and it seemed really unnecessary and over the top. It certainly didn't make us feel welcome as a family with young children. The food was just okay, of a very basic standard - flavourless curry, overdressed Caesar salad. - when we wanted to register the kids for the kids club, we had to complete forms. The girl at reception said it was done in the clubhouse, the manager in the clubhouse said it was done at reception. We wanted to play tennis one day so wanted to borrow rackets, balls etc. The receptionist said we'd have to ask in the clubhouse, because she wasn't sure if they had any - but couldn't she just have rang the clubhouse there and then and checked for us? When I asked her this, she said there was some "miscommunication" and really I just wanted her to stop talking jargon and use her initiative to help us. The reception staff said all the right things but were quite ineffectual. The lodges are probably okay for a bunch of adults but definitely not for young families. There is not much to attract families in fact, aside from the kids club which our kids thoroughly enjoyed. I really wanted to love Waterford Castle but all in all it just wasn't right. It would need to improve a lot to make me think of visiting again.

"Waterford Castle Lodges"
08/23/15 mirvawalsh Dublin, Ireland
We stayed at the Waterford Castle Lodges for 7 nights and must say we had a fantastic stay. We had plenty of space with three good size bedrooms and bathrooms, big living area downstairs with a patio at the back of the house facing the golf course and a playground about 20 meters from the house! The kitchen was well equipped, towels and bedlinen were all provided and the club house is only a short 10 minute walk down the road serving delicious (and reasonably priced!!) food and good pints of Guinness. Great place to bring the kids to, our kids aged 5 and 3 had a great time with the playground and walks around the island. I would definitely go again! Something to bear in mind though, the internet access is not fantastic by any standard and there are no Irish TV channels (but then again, you are on holidays!!!). "Waterford castle lodges"

We stayed in one of the lodges on the grounds of waterford castle. The lodge was very nice ,clean and modern. 3 double bedrooms,2 ensuite with a main bathroom. Plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 teenagers. We also brought out dog. It's very dog friendly. The castle is beautiful and lovely to go for cosy drink in the evening. The golf club is very reasonable for meals but doesn't do breakfast. Beautiful grounds and play area for young kids. Lovely place for families. Ferry goes every 15 mins

"Our return visit"
08/18/15 FOXYLADYBABE DUBLIN
We made a return trip to Waterford castle this summer having spent a long weekend there in 2014. There definitely have been improvements made to the grounds around the lodges and the playground. Yes the lodges do look a bit tired but apparently they are all being renovated this year. But they are extremely spacious and we'll equipped and most importantly clean!!! The only negative was the kids club. Kids went to it one day. They went with high hopes of doing arts n crafts sports etc however were disappointed to spent an hour and half in the playground!!! None of the kids wanted to return to the kids club when it was running again two days later. Staff in hotel were v friendly and helpful especially Linda at reception who was quizzed by my daughter about the Fairy that lives on the island, you'll see her fairy door if you walk around the island. Apparently Eliza the Fairy plays with the deer....thanks Linda my daughter went home delighted knowing all about Eliza. Lodges are fantastic for family or group get away. We'll definitely be returning for the third time next summer and looking forward to seeing the improvements.
